00:02At the head of the bay is the town of Ilulisat,
00:08known as the iceberg capital of the world.
00:12Even its name means iceberg in Greenlandic.
00:16And with shallow water at the mouth of the bay trapping the larger icebergs,
00:22Ilulisat is one of the best places in the world to see icebergs,
00:25and so it's become a magnet for tourists.
00:31I have certainly seen that there's more tourism going on here,
00:36there are more people coming in.
00:37Last year we counted 36.000 people coming to this specific area over the summer season,
00:45and I suppose that this number will just raise in the coming years.
00:58To appreciate the raw beauty and magnitude of our iceberg means taking to water.
01:06What a lovely morning. I'm so happy that I can go out here just enjoying those magnificent icebergs.
01:17It's amazing.
01:21You have to be quite skilled, I would say, to go out here.
01:24It is a special environment to be in. The sea is very cold, maybe one, two degrees.
01:30And then of course you have the ice that can break off.
01:33You have to be very careful. You can never rely 100% on an iceberg.
01:41But for Christian, it's worth the risk. There's nothing like getting up close and personal.
01:48You can easily feel so small among those icebergs.
01:52When you're in a kayak close up to them, they are just huge.
01:57It's like paddling through an art museum or something,
02:00because they are so different.
02:02You don't have two icebergs that look alike, so it's like seeing sculptures of nature.
02:07But in this iceberg kindergarten, our berg and the other young giants aren't the only wonders of nature on offer
02:14here.
