00:07Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today we're taking a look at 10 instances where Lego Batman Legacy
00:13of the Dark Knight made fun of the movies it adapts.
00:24Before we begin, we publish new videos all week long,

00:32You think the Batphone is your ally.
00:35It probably has one of those fancy built-in ice machines too, am I right?
00:41Batman? More like Boogeyman!
00:44Every now and again, you may hear a dull beep echoing throughout the Batcave.
00:49That sound is none other than the Batphone, and it is absolutely worth picking up whenever you can,
00:55because you will receive a totally mysterious prank call from an unknown villain.
01:01Joking aside, these prank calls were an excellent way to foreshadow Bane's arrival,
01:05and it was a clever way to poke fun at the League of Shadows making a sudden return,
01:10just as they did in The Dark Knight Rises.
01:12Seriously, was I the only one who thought that bit of the plot came out of nowhere?
01:21Becoming the Bat
01:36Speaking of the League of Shadows, Bruce's time training in the League was no easy task.
01:41As we see in Batman Begins, Bruce had to undergo intense, strict combat scenarios to strengthen his abilities.
01:49No time for any tomfoolery here,
01:52but Legacy of the Dark Knight presented an entirely different Bruce Wayne,
01:56one that viewed his time in the League of Shadows as a fun vacation.
02:01Never have we heard someone view mastering stealth abilities as a means to becoming a good player in Hide and
02:07Seek.
02:25Now, this one may have flown over your head unless you subjected yourself to one of the worst DC movies
02:31ever made.
02:32Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice faced scrutiny over a lot of things.
02:36The plot lacked cohesion and structure,
02:39there was way too much time and effort put into the visual effects,
02:42and the movie was just generally boring to watch.
02:45One detail fans especially hated was the Martha scene,
02:50where Batman and Superman find out both of their mothers share the same name.
02:54Legacy of the Dark Knight briefly pokes fun at this moment,
02:57when Batman is interrogating Joker,
02:59and nearly repeats an ugly stain on DC history.
03:03Ah, have you not worked it out yet?
03:06Because I have.
03:09Oh, we've been set up.
03:10Alfred's misquote.
03:12Why do we fall, sir?
03:14So that we can learn to pick ourselves up.
03:18Batman begin.
03:19As you're wandering around the Batcave and trying to improve things,
03:23you may hear Alfred try to remind you of what you should be doing.
03:27However, not everything he says is sage advice.
03:30One of the lines he'll utter is actually a social media post made by Michael Caine,
03:36the actor who played Alfred in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy.
03:39In August 2024, Caine posted a quote from the movie Batman Begins,
03:45except when citing the movie, he forgot the S.
03:49Unsurprisingly, the internet picked up on this typo and flooded his replies with memes.
03:54Seems like the writers of Legacy of the Dark Knight didn't forget this either.
03:58Harvey's targeted accident.
04:01Harvey, you okay?
04:03Oh, key lime right in the eye.
04:07That monster.
04:10Across the history of Batman,
04:13we have seen Harvey Dent suffer from all kinds of horrendous accidents
04:16that would lead to him becoming Two-Face.
04:18His disfigurement is often caused by some horrific burns or even a splash of acid.
04:25But Legacy of the Dark Knight manages to give him the disfigurement
04:28in a more comedic yet still brutal way.
04:31When the mimes attack Gotham City Hall,
04:33we see Harvey take a hit of key lime pie,
04:36a splash of water with highly acidic and spicy ingredients mixed in,
04:41smacked in the face with the gurney,
04:42electrocuted by a defibrillator three times,
04:45blunt force from an ambulance door,
04:47and a second pie to the face for good measure.
04:50All of which were precisely targeting the left side of his face.
04:55It's enough punishment to turn anybody evil.
04:57Did he get that warranty?
04:58As we see in The Dark Knight,
05:01the Joker is capable of committing insanely devious acts
05:04that keep Gotham in a constant state of panic.
05:07Among these vile crimes is planting an explosive phone inside of a man's stomach.
05:13Of course, we can't exactly show that level of violence in a game that children will be playing.
05:18And so, the bit was changed to where Joker nearly executes the plan flawlessly
05:23until the operator tells him that the device has malfunctioned.
05:27Hey, at least he got to reenact that menacing walk out of the hospital earlier.
05:43No home for this kitty.
05:46Though Legacy of the Dark Knight acknowledges many, many iterations of Catwoman,
05:50there is one version of the burglar that was noticeably left out,
05:54and for good reason.
05:55The 2004 movie Catwoman has long been known as one of the worst superhero movies of all time
06:01on account of its meandering plot, overt sexualization, and dreadful use of CGI.
06:08Halle Berry even accepted a Razzie for Worst Actress in person.
06:13Since then, the movie has largely been forgotten with rare exception.
06:17The closest Legacy of the Dark Knight gets to acknowledging this movie
06:21is with a missing cat poster plastered in various corners of Gotham.
06:26The cat's name?
06:27Halle Puri.
06:28A real circus.
06:31Who is that?
06:33Surprise!
06:35In Chapter 5, the Joker goes from his 1989 personality
06:40to the more sinister Dark Knight side.
06:43As part of his grand plan to send Gotham into chaos,
06:46he sends Batman on a goose chase throughout the city.
06:50Our Dark Knight finds nothing but a bunch of imposters,
06:53except these imposters are different iterations of the Joker.
06:57The first one you find is based on Conrad Veidt's character
07:00in the 1928 movie The Man Who Laughs,
07:04which would be the inspiration in the Joker's conception.
07:07The second and most famous of the three imposters
07:10is the 1960s rendition of the Joker played by Cesar Romero.
07:14As for the third, it's none other than Arthur Flett,
07:18Joaquin Phoenix's character,
07:19who would become the clown prince of crime in the 2019 movie Joker.
07:30A word on buffoonery.
07:33Good evening to you, Gotham's richest.
07:37While we're on the topic of bread and circuses,
07:40and villainy,
07:41Two-Face says a rather interesting line
07:43while he's taking over the circus in Chapter 3.
07:46As Batman and Robin beat up his henchmen,
07:48Two-Face berates his thugs,
07:50saying that he cannot
07:51sanction their buffoonery.
07:54This is clearly a playful tease
07:56towards actor Tommy Lee Jones,
07:58who played Two-Face in Batman Forever.
08:01According to Jim Carrey,
08:02who portrayed the Riddler in the same movie,
08:05Jones was not a fan of Carrey at all.
08:07In an interview with fellow comedian Norm MacDonald,
08:10Carrey recalls running into Jones at a restaurant
08:13only to be told,
08:14I cannot sanction any more of your buffoonery.
08:17I said, gee, man, what's the problem?
08:20And I pulled up a chair,
08:22which probably wasn't smart,
08:24and he said,
08:25I cannot sanction your buffoonery.

08:53Bane's hilarious arrival.
08:57I knew it.
08:58It's Bane.
09:00So what's his problem?
09:01He was born out of the darkness
09:03and grew into a soulless mercenary.
09:06Even more ruthless than my father.
09:08He's a monster.
09:10Bane may be the best character
09:12in Legacy of the Dark Knight,
09:13and we aren't just saying that
09:15because of Matt Barry's sultry voice and comedic timing.
09:18He absolutely steals the show in Chapter 5 and Chapter 6
09:22as he utters some of the most iconic and ridiculous lines in the game.
09:26From the not-so-subtle definition of
09:29the people of Gotham
09:30to stepping on a Lego brick mid-monologue,
09:33this isn't just a simple parody of Bane.
09:36It's all of the best bits of him
09:38between the movies and Lego humor
09:40rolled into one original depiction.
09:43You should hear some of the PSAs he makes in the final level
09:46as they truly fit his personality.
09:57Was there another moment in Legacy of the Dark Knight we might have missed?
