00:08Welcome to MojoPlays and today we're staring down the aperture with a tiny man and a gun
00:11pointing at us. Let's see who did it best. These are the 20 best 007 games. Let's go.
00:17Before we continue, we publish content all week long, so be sure to subscribe and ring
00:21the bell to get notified of our latest videos. GoldenEye Rogue Agent Nintendo DS.
00:35Released long after the legendary N64 classic, GoldenEye Rogue Agent felt less like a true
00:40follow-up and more like somebody desperately trying to borrow nostalgia points from a far
00:44better title. I'm gonna rag on it a little, but that's because it's number 20 and we gotta start
00:48low to get high. The whole thing just felt strangely lifeless, and instead of recapturing what made the
00:54original iconic, Rogue Agent mostly reminded players how difficult it is to recreate lightning in a
00:59bottle. That being said, there was a fairly fun and addictive multiplayer that if you had the
01:03right group of friends, could easily recreate the joy of the original N64 multiplayer.
01:14James Bond Jr. NES.
01:21The NES version of James Bond Jr. is surprisingly ambitious for a licensed title. In a lot of ways,
01:27it feels loosely inspired by Mega Man, especially with its side-scrolling action, platforming, and
01:31gadget-based combat. The problem is that while it copies some of the structure, it never quite captures
01:36the same speed, polish, or personality that made Capcom's classic so addictive. Movement feels stiffer,
01:42combat lacks impact, and the level design can become frustratingly awkward at times. Still,
01:47the game deserves some credit for trying to do more than just a basic licensed cash-in. Also,
01:52much like GoldenEye and the N64, the soundtrack goes harder than you'd ever expect.
02:03007 Quantum of Solace Nintendo DS.
02:08The DS version of Quantum of Solace feels less like a proper James Bond game, and more like somebody
02:13attempting to recreate Metal Gear Solid entirely from memory after not sleeping for three days.
02:17I know that sounds like an insult, because I've been pretty insulting thus far, but for a DS game,
02:21it was fairly intriguing. The combat is unfortunately a bit slow and awkward, with movement that feels
02:26stiff enough to make Bond seem like he's sneaking through missions while wearing concrete shoes.
02:30However, there are occasional flashes of ambition hidden underneath the clunky design, and in 2008,
02:35it was an interesting challenge in handheld development.
02:41James Bond Jr. SNES.
02:49Okay, I won't repeat quite this badly, but these two games feel so different that they need to be praised
02:54separately. Based on the animated series of the same name, James Bond Jr. attempted to turn the teenage
02:59spy concept into a side-scrolling action game, and mostly they got it right, though with occasionally
03:04hollow gameplay. While the game occasionally tried to mix things up with vehicle and shooting sections,
03:09reminiscent of R-Type, those moments were never polished enough to truly stand out.
03:13That said, there's still a weird charm to the whole thing, simply because it exists at all.
03:27James Bond, 007, Everything or Nothing, Game Boy Advance.
03:41The Game Boy Advance version of Everything or Nothing was always going to struggle, compared to the flashy
03:45home console release, but for what it is, the handheld adaptation ends up being oddly decent
03:51at times. Using an isometric viewpoint instead of the cinematic third-person action from the main
03:55version, the game focuses more on exploration and slower combat. The action itself is serviceable,
04:00without ever becoming particularly exciting, though the variety of environments at least help
04:05keep things moving along. Honestly, one of the biggest highlights is seeing tiny pixel versions
04:09of actors like Judi Dench and Willem Dafoe awkwardly squeezed onto the GBA screen. It's goofy, but strangely memorable.
04:23James Bond, 007 Legends
04:25You must not get away.
04:31I'm in position, ma'am.
04:33Lining up a shot.
04:34007 Legends was supposed to be a celebration of the Bond franchise, pulling missions and moments from
04:40multiple classic films, while awkwardly inserting Daniel Craig into stories originally starring entirely
04:45different Bonds. On paper, it sounded like a fantastic idea, especially for long-time 007 fans.
04:51In execution, well, let's just say it was fantastic on paper.
04:55Developer Eurocom clearly wanted to chase the popularity of military shooters like Call of Duty,
05:00but in doing so, the game lost much of the style and charm that normally defines James Bond.
05:04This didn't make it a bad game, it just didn't feel like a James Bond game.
05:08But sometimes that makes a good game.
05:15GoldenEye 007 Nintendo DS
05:26Apparently, there's no such thing as too many GoldenEye games, because the franchise somehow
05:30found its way onto the DS with this reimagined take on the N64 classic.
05:34Surprisingly, it actually turned out fairly solid overall.
05:37The handheld hardware obviously meant some compromises had to be made, but the core shooting mechanics
05:41felt responsive enough, and the mission structure does a decent job of capturing the globe-trotting Bond
05:46atmosphere. It's not without issues, though, but it is super fun to play GoldenEye in the car,
05:51while someone else is driving, obviously.
06:01007 Quantum of Solace
06:08The Wii version of Quantum of Solace seemed like a natural fit. Motion controls and first-person shooters
06:13often pair well together, especially for a franchise built around aiming gadgets and pulling off stylish spy action.
06:20Unfortunately, this particular adaptation never quite reaches its potential.
06:23There are still flashes of fun hidden in the chaos, especially for players who simply enjoy blasting through a Bond
06:28adventure
06:29on Nintendo hardware, but it's hard to ignore how much smoother and more polished the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions
06:35felt by comparison.
06:36Still, the Wii version remains an interesting curiosity for dedicated Bond collectors.
06:40And if that doesn't work for you, jump to the Xbox 360.
06:43Or PS3, I guess.
06:46She had a boyfriend.
06:48A French-Algerian.
06:51They were very much in love.
06:53James Bond 007 Game Boy
07:01James Bond 007 on the Game Boy is one of those surprisingly charming little handheld adaptations
07:06that punches above its weight, despite obvious technical limitations.
07:09Sure, there are some frustrating issues, like invisible barriers occasionally blocking your shots
07:13for no apparent reason, and visually, it's nowhere near the most advanced game on Nintendo's chunky grey brick.
07:19Still, the simple presentation actually works in its favour,
07:22giving the adventure a clean, readable style that suits portable play nicely.
07:26The music also deserves a lot of credit for capturing the unmistakable Bond atmosphere,
07:31despite the tiny hardware.
07:33Little 007 beeps and boops never sounded so good.
07:42GoldenEye Rogue Agent PS2
07:50If GoldenEye Rogue Agent had released under almost any other name,
07:53it probably would have been judged far more kindly.
07:56A huge amount of backlash came from the fact that it borrowed the legendary GoldenEye title,
08:00despite having little connection to the N64 classic beyond the Bond branding.
08:04Looking past that baggage, though, there are genuinely interesting ideas here.
08:07The game experiments with flashy gameplay mechanics, over-the-top gadgets,
08:11and even opens with a bold fake-out involving 007 himself.
08:14The biggest appeal, however, is easily the villains.
08:17Rogue Agent basically turns into the Bond equivalent of Avengers Endgame,
08:21gathering together iconic franchise baddies for one gloriously ridiculous crossover.
08:26It's super dope.
08:33James Bond at 007 from Russia with Love
08:36May I help you?
08:37A dry martini.
08:38Shaken, not stout.
08:40From Russia with Love on the PS2 had one enormous advantage over most Bond games immediately.
08:45It brought Sean Connery back as 007.
08:48Hearing and playing as the original Bond again gave the game a huge amount of charm,
08:52especially for long-time fans of the films.
08:54After the first-person focus of GoldenEye Rogue Agent,
08:57this game returned to third-person action,
08:59which suited the cinematic spy atmosphere much better.
09:02While licensing issues meant certain story elements had to be altered
09:06and the developers cheekily borrowed gadgets and ideas from other Bond movies
09:08like the jetpack from Thunderball,
09:10the game still captures the spirit of the original film really, really well.
09:14The action can be a little clunky by modern standards,
09:16but there's something undeniably fun about running through classic Bond locations
09:20as Connery himself.
09:27The World Is Not Enough
09:35The World Is Not Enough had the unfortunate task of following in the footsteps of GoldenEye
09:40on the N64, which is basically like being asked to perform after the greatest band of all time.
09:44Surprisingly, Eurocom's version actually turned out pretty respectable.
09:48Much like the film, the game follows Bond through a globetrotting adventure
09:51filled with gadgets, shootouts, and suspiciously polite villains waiting to be shot in first person.
09:56While it never quite reached the cultural dominance of GoldenEye,
09:59it still delivered solid shooting mechanics and some genuinely enjoyable missions designed for that era.
10:03The biggest inclusion was split-screen multiplayer,
10:07because back then adding multiplayer instantly improved almost everything.
10:11No, people probably weren't hosting lifelong tournaments around it like GoldenEye,
10:14but it still made for a pretty entertaining Bond night with friends.
10:17It's on the team!
10:24Tomorrow Never Dies
10:32Following up GoldenEye 007 was never going to be easy,
10:34but Tomorrow Never Dies at least deserves credit for trying something different
10:37instead of simply copying Rhea's formula.
10:40Released on the original PlayStation, the game shifted to third-person perspective
10:43and adapted the movie's plot in a more action-heavy arcade experience.
10:47Some missions genuinely stand out,
10:49especially the early skiing sequence,
10:51which perfectly captures the over-the-top Bond energy the films are known for.
10:55Unfortunately, the game struggled in a few key areas,
10:58particularly its awkward control scheme,
11:00which could feel clunky and frustrating even by late-90s standards.
11:03Still, there's an undeniable charm for it now as an early experimental Bond title,
11:07trying to carve out its own identity after the enormous shadow cast by GoldenEye.
11:12My god, this whole list has just been foreshadowing my inevitable entry on GoldenEye.
11:16Can you guys please act surprised?
11:18White Knight, the British Navy has just launched a Tomahawk cruise missile to destroy the bazaar.
11:23Evacuate immediately!
11:24I just need a little more time.
11:26James Bond 007 Bloodstone
11:34During Daniel Craig's era as James Bond,
11:37most of the games tied to his version of 007
11:39leaned heavily into the military shooter trend popular at the time,
11:42often feeling a little too eager to imitate franchises like Call of Duty,
11:46which is 100% not James Bond.
11:48That's part of why 007 Bloodstone stands out so much in retrospect.
11:52Instead of directly adapting a film,
11:54it told an original Bond story built specifically for the game,
11:58which immediately gave it much more freedom and personality.
12:01The action is fast-paced and cinematic.
12:03The globetrotting, I'm sorry to keep saying globetrotting,
12:05plot feels authentically Bond,
12:08and the inclusion of performances from Daniel Craig,
12:10Judi Dench, and Joss Stone
12:11adds a surprising amount of legitimacy to the experience.
12:15It's not perfect, but there's genuine charm.
12:40The 2010 reimagining of GoldenEye 007 had an almost impossible task ahead of it.
12:46Not only was it revisiting one of the most beloved shooters ever made,
12:49but it also swapped Pierce Brosnan for Daniel Craig
12:52and modernized the entire experience for a new generation.
12:55Surprisingly, Eurocom handled the challenge pretty well.
12:58While the campaign is shorter than some fans would have liked,
13:00it delivers plenty of exciting Bond-style action
13:02and does a respectable job balancing nostalgia with updated gameplay ideas.
13:07The multiplayer modes, both local and online,
13:09are easily one of the game's biggest strengths
13:11and help give it lasting appeal beyond the story itself.
13:14No, it never revolutionized the FPS genre
13:17the way the original GoldenEye did on the N64,
13:19but expecting that would have been crazy.
13:22So take what you get and be happy.
13:24That's my overall message.
13:34James Bond 007 Agent Under Fire
13:37Could open that digital lock.
13:43Agent Under Fire marked another shift into first-person shooting for the Bond series,
13:47though this time the game actually carved out its own identity
13:49instead of directly adapting a movie.
13:51Originally intended as a tie-in for The World Is Not Enough,
13:54the development delays eventually pushed it
13:56into becoming a completely original Bond adventure instead,
13:58which honestly worked out for the best.
14:00Freed from following a film's structure,
14:02the game gets to lean fully into ridiculous spy gadgets,
14:05explosive action sequences,
14:07and globe-trotting missions that feel very authentically Bond.
14:11The campaign itself is fairly short,
14:13and there's not a massive amount of replay value once the credits roll,
14:16but it remains consistently entertaining throughout.
14:19Also, high praise to the GameCube version,
14:22as it felt more original on that console than PlayStation and Xbox.
14:26Dead ahead!
14:32James Bond 007 Nightfire
14:47Nightfire is often considered Eurocom's best James Bond game,
14:50and honestly, it's not hard to see why.
14:52Like most of the top ten,
14:54Nightfire tells its own original story,
14:56which gives it room to fully embrace the over-the-top spy fantasy
14:59without feeling constrained by movie plots.
15:01The result is a slick, cinematic first-person shooter
15:04packed with gadgets, exotic locations,
15:06explosive action scenes,
15:07and enough swagger to feel authentically Bond from start to finish.
15:10The gunplay feels really, really polished for 2002,
15:14helping the game age far better than many early 2000s shooters.
15:17It also deserves credit for pulling off large-scale action moments,
15:21like its snowmobile chase sequence,
15:23years before similar blockbuster set pieces
15:25became standard in franchises like Call of Duty.
15:28If players wanted a Bond game
15:29that feels as good as N64's Goldeneye,
15:32Nightfire is absolutely one of the strongest choices.
15:39James Bond 007 Everything or Nothing
15:42Everything or Nothing
15:52really felt like the Bond franchise trying to create its own blockbuster movie
15:56directly through a video game,
15:57and it came surprisingly close to pulling it off.
15:59The production value doesn't always fully match the ambition,
16:02but the game absolutely nails the larger-than-life Bond atmosphere.
16:06Its third-person action works well,
16:08but the real highlights are the vehicle sequences,
16:11many of which benefited from technology
16:12borrowed from the Need for Speed engine.
16:15Some of the set pieces are genuinely spectacular,
16:17especially the bridge motorcycle chase,
16:20which still feels thrilling even years later.
16:24We believe 003's life may be in danger.
16:28Come on my way to Peru.
16:31And don't forget to stop by Q Branch on your way out.
16:35007 First Light
16:48First Light feels like the Bond game fans have been waiting years for.
16:52Instead of focusing purely on non-stop shooting,
16:54the game leans much harder into the actual spy fantasy,
16:57emphasising gadgets, investigation, social stealth,
17:01and the procedural side of Bond's work as an agent.
17:03Framed as an original story,
17:05it follows Bond earning his license to kill
17:08through the newly re-established 00 program,
17:10taking plays across gorgeous international locations
17:13like Vietnam, Slovakia, and Malta along the way.
17:16The result feels far more authentically Bond
17:19than many previous adaptations,
17:21balancing explosive action with espionage and deception
17:23in a way that the series rarely manages.
17:25The cinematic presentation also helps enormously,
17:28making everything feel like a playable blockbuster film.
17:31More than anything, 007 First Light
17:33finally understands that Bond works best as a spy first
17:36and an action hero second.
17:42GoldenEye 007
17:48GoldenEye 007 isn't just one of the greatest
17:50James Bond games ever made,
17:52it's one of the most important console shooters ever released.
17:55Rare somehow turned a movie tie-in
17:57into a genre-defining classic
17:59that completely changed how FPS games worked on consoles.
18:02At a time when the PlayStation was dominating
18:04with edgier, more mature games,
18:06GoldenEye gave Nintendo 64 owners
18:08something genuinely groundbreaking to rally around.
18:11The campaign itself was fantastic,
18:13blending stealth, gadgets, and action
18:15in ways most shooters weren't even attempting yet,
18:17but the real magic came from the multiplayer.
18:20The legendary four-player split-screen deathmatches
18:23became the center of countless friendships
18:25and arguments alike.
18:26Everyone had their preferred rules,
18:29license to kill,
18:30pistols only,
18:30no auto-aim,
18:31and absolutely no odd job
18:33unless somebody wanted the room
18:34to descend into violence.
18:58The legendary four-player split-screen deathmatches
18:59was a great choice.
18:59You
