00:00Where are you from?
00:01Uh, we're from kind of far away.
00:05And we're not really used to these waters.
00:08Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today we're remembering the most boring or frustrating or
00:13uninventive and stupidly designed moments we ever experienced in the Kingdom Hearts series.
00:17I'm already getting warm in the face.
00:19This is the 10 worst Kingdom Hearts worlds.
00:22Ugh, let's go, I guess.
00:25Before we continue, we publish content all week long, so be sure to subscribe and ring
00:30the bell to get notified of our latest videos.
00:34Twilight Town
00:53Alright, picture this.
00:54It's 2005, and the sequel to arguably one of the best games of all time, with arguably
01:00one of the best player parties ever assembled, has dropped, and you jump into the game expecting
01:05to pick up right where you left off with Sora, Donald, and Goofy.
01:09Instead, we begin our adventure in Twilight Town, and sure, the music is fantastic, and
01:13the town is cute and fun, with perpetual twilight and trains and trolleys, but it's undeniably
01:18tedious.
01:19And on top of that, you're playing as this new character, Roxas, who, and let me say
01:23it extra loud for the people in the back, we don't give a f*** about.
01:27Many argue that the exploration of this world and introduction to Roxas is crucial for the
01:33game's lore and world building.
01:35Okay, let me repeat that back to you when you're bouncing a balloon to entertain a crowd,
01:39and you explain the importance to me then.
01:48Deep Space
01:58Lilo and Stitch holds a special place in the hearts of Disney fans, and if you personally
02:02were designing a level for it, where would you place it?
02:05On the beautiful sandy beaches of Hawaii, where you can explore the dance studio and
02:10Lilo's house?
02:11Well, Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep decided to set this world in and limit it to the spaceship
02:16where Stitch is confined at the beginning of the film.
02:19Instead of traversing the sandy beaches of Hawaii and riding the waves, players navigate
02:23through a dull, white ship, negotiating a frustrating vertical environment that heavily relies on
02:29platforming, an aspect not typically highlighted in the series.
02:32Additionally, an awkward pinball-like exterior section disrupts the flow of the game.
02:37So many bad decisions were made surrounding this level that it boggles the mind.
02:41You've been of great service, Aqua.
02:46San Fran Sokio
02:57San Fran Sokio fails to provide a promising glimpse into what Quadratum in Kingdom Hearts 4
03:02could potentially offer, so an updated list may need to come out in the future.
03:06While it showcases some interesting Japanese-inspired architecture, the overall experience feels
03:12sort of… meh.
03:14There's a noticeable absence of engaging activities such as side quests involving cooking
03:18in a fast food restaurant or protecting citizens from the heartless, just anything that would
03:22honour the source material in cool and interesting ways.
03:25Moreover, the presence of invisible walls is a true bummer.
03:28Either build walls or don't, but don't have Hero constantly calling us, prompting us not
03:32to leave the area.
03:33That's annoying as hell.
03:34Come on!
03:35Let's move!
03:38Wonderland
03:45I've been making a lot of Kingdom Hearts content recently, and because of this, I decided
03:50to replay the series.
03:51I just finished Wonderland from Kingdom Hearts 1, and I'm so glad it's on this list because
03:56that world is hot poop garbage.
03:58First off, as what should technically be the first world on your adventure, it barely does
04:03anything fun.
04:03The final boss isn't from the world story, there are no world-related party members to
04:07join you, and the actual areas are so boring.
04:10Honestly, you'll spend your entire time in this world going back between the same three
04:14areas, solving puzzles that are so poorly blended with the puzzles that you have to come
04:19back to later to solve.
04:20It's just a yuck way to start your Disney adventures, especially after playing for a few
04:24I was already getting keen to explore the worlds.
04:37Arendelle.
05:03Arendelle feels more like a token inclusion due to its immense popularity, rather than a
05:07fully immersive world.
05:09Which is wild, because it could have been as fun as any other world, but it feels like
05:14the devs were rolling their eyes as they made it.
05:17Square Enix opted to extend the storyline by introducing a perplexing ice maze.
05:22The peculiar way marking and level design in this area often leaves players bewildered until
05:27they manage to navigate their way out.
05:28The scenery is pretty damn awesome, and the music is emotional and driving, but no one
05:35could save this world from the unnecessary recreation of the iconic let-it-go scene.
05:40That just feels redundant, considering you could simply watch the movie instead.
05:44Furthermore, Sora, Donald and Goofy failed to form an alliance with the formidable princess,
05:48instead finding themselves accompanied by which popular character from the film?
05:52Olaf?
05:53Kristoff and Sven as a team?
05:55Nope.
05:56Marshmallow, the creature Elsa created to guard her castle.
06:00F*** this s***.
06:01You're following her.
06:02Ooh, look at you get all sassy.
06:06Monstro.
06:06What is it with Square Enix and setting the worlds of Disney films they've decided to use
06:11in the absolute worst locations they can think of?
06:13You thought Lilo and Stitch in space was bad?
06:16Let's set our Pinocchio location inside the whale that ate Geppetto.
06:20Good idea.
06:21I'd say it didn't age well, but it also sucked in 2001.
06:24Within the whale's interior, the walls are adorned with untextured alien-esque blobs,
06:29and the level design leaves much to be desired.
06:32The placement of hallways seems random as you move from chamber to chamber,
06:35making it difficult to remember which doorway leads where.
06:39Coupled with the sub-part camera controls in Kingdom Hearts,
06:42navigating through Monstro becomes a task that Pinocchio definitely can't lie about.
06:47Disney Town.
06:59Minigames plague the Kingdom Hearts series,
07:01and Disney Town epitomises this issue in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep.
07:05Players find themselves spending a considerable amount of time engaging in minigames,
07:09from awkward volleyball matches with fruit,
07:11to lacklustre kart racing reminiscent of a sub-par Mario Kart clone.
07:15Furthermore, there's a rhythm minigame featuring Chip and Dale that feels disjointed and out of sync.
07:20Honestly, stop making rhythm games if you aren't going to put any f***ing time into them.
07:27What exacerbates the problem is that this overly cheerful world feels glaringly out of sync
07:32with the darker tone of one of the most serious narratives in the Kingdom Hearts universe.
07:35Its vibrant colours and whimsical atmosphere starkly contrasts with the tone birthed by Sleep strives to achieve.
07:50Hundred Acre Wood.
07:52Sink, sink, sink, sink, sink.
07:54Not only is Winnie the Pooh one of the most beloved childhood series from many plays of Kingdom Hearts,
07:59but it has some of the sweetest and most heartwarming characters to exist in the Disney history.
08:04The idea that this would be a safe haven from Heartless was a relief.
08:07It would exist as a place to tackle fun little minigames with fun little characters.
08:12Instead, it was a world that was broken up, so we had to keep returning to it,
08:15and had mind-numbing minigames that almost always sucked stinky farts.
08:21So much potential squandered.
08:24Atlantica.
08:24We're from kind of far away, and we're not really used to these waters.
08:30Atlantica often receives criticism from the Kingdom Hearts fanbase, and it's not without merit.
08:35The controls feel clunky, and Sora's merman form limits the available moveset,
08:40resulting in a less satisfying gameplay experience.
08:42Both of Ursula's boss fights are particularly frustrating to navigate,
08:46and traversing the world becomes increasingly awkward,
08:48especially in the later stages where you must ride a dolphin to reach Ursula.
08:52Okay, I'm happy to forgive and forget.
08:55Let's give them another crack at it in Kingdom Hearts 2, and they messed it up.
08:59They messed it up bad.
09:01Going from mediocre to excruciating, they turned Atlantica into a rhythm game,
09:06which once again was designed so poorly that it's a drummer's nightmare.
09:11Constantly out of sync and featuring some terrible songs,
09:15this whole world feels like it ended up in the ocean after being flushed down the toilet.
09:20Deep Jungle.
09:27It's a true and honest-to-God shocker that any of us stuck around Kingdom Hearts
09:31after playing Wonderland and Deep Jungle back-to-back right at the beginning of the game
09:35because Wonderland was bad, but it was nothing compared to the Tarzan entry.
09:40With some of the worst level design we've seen from Square Enix,
09:43navigating through Deep Jungle proves to be a daunting task
09:46as the game fails to provide clear directions on how to progress the story.
09:49Even seasoned players with Kingdom Hearts find themselves lost amidst the chaotic layout of the world.
09:55Maneuvering through the jungle by swinging on vines proves to be cumbersome,
09:59requiring precise timing of button presses between each jump.
10:02Players often find themselves falling due to the unreliable swing mechanics,
10:07compounded by the erratic camera angles and awkward platforming jumps performed by Sora.
10:11I'd rather get the snot kicked out of me by Tarzan than play his level.
