00:00I stand here today because of a fated encounter, very many years ago when I was still a young lad.
00:09Welcome to Mojo Plays and today we are blowing minds. Maybe.
00:14A lot of people don't realise just how many familiar voices are kicking around in Kingdom Hearts,
00:18so let's pick out some of our favourites. This is 10 Celebrity Appearances in Kingdom Hearts Games.
00:23For this video, we decided to exclude celebs who returned to voice a character they'd already done,
00:28so don't expect James Woods' brilliant performance as Hades or the infamous Gilbert Gottfried as Iago. Let's go.
00:34Before we continue, we publish content all week long,
00:37so be sure to subscribe and ring the bell to get notified of our latest videos.
00:43Dan Castellaneta.
00:44Please kid, leave the intros to a professional. The one and only Genie of the Lamp.
00:50Rub it up the lamp and have your dearest wishes granted.
00:53This winner is Aladdin. Congratulations.
00:56Obviously, getting all the famous voice actors of the many Disney films featured in Kingdom Hearts
01:01would have been an impossible task both financially and scheduling-wise,
01:04so some changes had to be made.
01:07Filling the shoes of Robert Williams as the Genie from Aladdin is not an easy task,
01:11but if anyone was up to the job, it was our 10th entry Dan Castellaneta.
01:15Not exactly a recognisable celebrity for many,
01:18his voice has most definitely gone through your ears,
01:21as he has famously voiced Homer Simpson for the last 35 years.
01:24Who the devil are you?
01:26Don't panic. Just come up with a good story.
01:29My name is Mr. Burns.
01:31His rendition of the Genie is as close to perfect
01:33as you can get without being Robin Williams himself.
01:36Okay, you asked for it.
01:38A hundred servants and a hundred camels loaded with gold.
01:41Just say the word and I'll deliver it in 30 minutes or less or you're meal free.
01:44Hey, I'll even throw in a cappuccino.
01:46David Boreanaz.
01:47They'll come at you out of nowhere.
01:49Who are you?
01:51And they'll keep on coming at you.
01:54As long as you continue to wield the Keyblade.
01:56Today, television audiences are familiar with Boreanaz primarily from his roles in Bones
02:01and Seal Team.
02:02But he was likely selected for his Kingdom Hearts role based on his portrayal of Angel,
02:06the enigmatic anti-hero from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
02:17In the first installment of Kingdom Hearts, he lent his voice to Squall Leon Hart,
02:21the introspective protagonist of Final Fantasy VIII.
02:24It's a tough character to nail down with brooding cool guy energy,
02:27but Boreanaz did a perfect job without ever making it obvious it was him.
02:33Sean Astin.
02:34Wow! And I didn't even hold back!
02:36Kingdom Hearts fans are well aware that Olympus is the series' most frequently revisited world,
02:42and its demigod hero is an integral part of its charm.
02:45There's no Olympus without Hercules.
02:47Given that Tate Donovan reprised his role as Hercules in the Kingdom Hearts sequels,
02:51it's odd that he wasn't available for the initial game.
02:53What's even more odd is the casting of Sean Astin as his replacement.
02:57I don't think you can get further away from Hercules than Samwise Gamgee.
03:01And based on the timeline, it's plausible that Astin recorded his lines for the role
03:05between takes of Lord of the Rings.
03:07It's like in the great stories, Mr. Fruitle.
03:10The ones that really mattered.
03:13Full of darkness and danger they were.
03:16And sometimes you didn't want to know the end.
03:19Because how could the end be happy?
03:22Lance Bass.
03:39Surprising many fans, one of the optional bosses in the early entries turned out to be Sephiroth,
03:44the iconic antagonist from Final Fantasy VII,
03:46and arguably the most well-known antagonist Square Enix has ever created.
03:50Even more unexpected was the casting choice of Lance Bass from NSYNC to voice him.
03:56And no, there was absolutely no time that Sephiroth burst out into song,
04:00so it continues to make no sense.
04:02Sephiroth doesn't even have any substantial dialogue,
04:04only grunts and mid-battle quotes that most players wouldn't even remember.
04:08Nevertheless, Bass proudly acknowledges his brief portrayal of the character,
04:12as evident by his Twitter declaration of being the OG Sephiroth.
04:15And honestly, I'd ride that wave just as hard if I were him.
04:18Hayley Joel Osment.
04:24Having a good growler, are we?
04:30How did you...
04:31I stuck a little bug on you.
04:33We couldn't do a Kingdom Hearts celebrity list without acknowledging the guy
04:35that brings life to our series protagonist, Sora.
04:38And that is, of course, the famous Sixth Sense actor, Hayley Joel Osment.
04:42Dominating as a child actor in films like Forrest Gump and Pay It Forward,
04:45in his adult years, he's moved more heavily into voice acting work.
04:48He is a staple of Kingdom Hearts,
04:50and we should all take a moment of silence to commemorate him.
04:54That'll do.
04:55Moving on.
04:55We were together.
04:57You know what's funny?
04:59I looked everywhere for you, but you were with me all along.
05:03Mandy Moore.
05:04Excuse me?
05:05Did the King send you?
05:09Um, Matt, you said you wouldn't be including actors
05:11who were reprising their famous Disney roles.
05:13Well, shut up for a second.
05:15We aren't here to talk about Mandy Moore
05:17and her role as Rapunzel from Tangled.
05:19We're here to talk about her appearance in Kingdom Hearts
05:21that predates Tangled by many, many years.
05:24In the inaugural game,
05:26Moore contributes her pure voice to Aerith,
05:29the beloved flower girl from Final Fantasy VII.
05:31Although in the first game,
05:32she never really got a chance to shine
05:34or show us much more of Aerith than basic lines,
05:37she did a phenomenal job
05:38of representing a beloved character.
05:41Don't stop!
05:43Pull my hair!
05:44Whee!
05:44Shut up and take it, you stupid b****!
05:47Okay, well, we can stop there.
05:48Ariel Winter.
05:49Are these for me?
05:52I picked you some flowers.
05:54Thank you for saving me.
05:55While Birth by Sleep focuses on new Keyblade wielders
05:58as a prequel to the original title,
06:00it does introduce younger versions of familiar heroes,
06:03one of which is the beloved Kairi.
06:05Instead of Hayden Panettiere or Alison Stoner
06:07reprising the role,
06:09Ariel Winter steps in for this vocal cameo.
06:11Winter boasts experience in voice acting,
06:14having starred in numerous Disney animated shows
06:16and also as a Moogle in several Final Fantasy titles.
06:19Given the connection with Square Enix,
06:21it's not shocking that she made it over to Kingdom Hearts.
06:24It's also amusing to consider
06:25that this modern family star
06:26was also dabbling in JRPGs on the side.
06:29What a hero.
06:30How many men have you slept with?
06:32Eight.
06:33Next.
06:35Drake Bell.
06:36Who knows?
06:37I don't get why anyone would initiate a war.
06:40This samurai-inspired Keyblade master
06:42was already previously portrayed before Kingdom Hearts 3
06:45and portrayed well by a renowned voice,
06:48Star Wars and Batman actor Mark Hamill.
06:50However, in Kingdom Hearts 3's flashbacks
06:52to several decades prior,
06:54players witness Eraqus and Xehanort as children.
06:57Surprisingly, the voice behind Eraqus
06:59is none other than Drake Bell.
07:01From Drake and Josh.
07:03Unsurprisingly, he gives a brilliant performance
07:05with just the right amount of youthful energy.
07:06You were supposed to cut it out with the power saw.
07:09Dude, I'm gonna.
07:10Oh, really?
07:10Yes.
07:11So go get the power saw.
07:13Okay, I will.
07:18Dylan Sprouse.
07:19Yeah.
07:20You're Yozora, right?
07:22How do you know that?
07:24Who are you?
07:25Fans remain perplexed by this character.
07:27Initially introduced as a video game
07:29within Kingdom Hearts 3's Toy Story world,
07:32Yozora and his mysterious urban dimension resurface
07:35as a boss in the Remind DLC.
07:37Strangely, he plays a pivotal role
07:39in locating the missing Sora
07:40and revealing an alternate reality.
07:42It's puzzling how Square Enix managed to enlist
07:45this former Disney Channel star to voice him,
07:47especially considering he's taken a step back from acting.
07:50Additionally, Yozora is so emotionally detached
07:52that virtually anyone could have portrayed him.
07:55So why Dylan Sprouse?
07:56What aren't we getting?
07:58Either way, great job.
08:00Christopher Lloyd.
08:01I stand here today because of a fated encounter
08:06very many years ago
08:07when I was still a young lad.
08:11When it comes to casting the series' primary antagonist,
08:14Nomura consistently turns to a sci-fi legend.
08:18Initially, Leonard Nimoy of Star Trek fame
08:20lent his voice to the character of Xehanort
08:22until his untimely death.
08:25Rutger Hauer, known for his role in Blade Runner,
08:27stepped in for the climactic Kingdom Hearts 3,
08:30only to also pass away shortly thereafter.
08:33Enter Christopher Lloyd,
08:34renowned for his role in Back to the Future.
08:36Lloyd assumed the role of Xehanort in Remind
08:38and the subsequent entry, Melody of Memory,
08:41and he should maybe keep an eye on his health.
08:44No reason.
08:45For one to completely disappear,
08:48their heart and body
08:50must be restored to their original form.
