00:11In Bolivia, the Workers' Center called for dialogue with the government, sparking the
00:16projection among social movements.
00:23The Russia-ASEAN Business Forum opened with the participation of international representatives
00:28in the Russian city of Kazan.
00:35Hundreds of Argentine fans gathered in Buenos Aires on Tuesday to watch their national teams
00:40World Cup opened, which ended with a strong 3-0 win over Algeria.
00:49Hello and welcome to From the South, I am Lorena Fon from the Telesur Studios in Caracas,
00:54Venezuela.
00:54We begin with the news, stay with us.
01:11After nearly 48 days of protests and road blockades, the Bolivian Workers' Center, COV, called for
01:17dialogue with the government of President Rodrigo Paz, sparking the projection among the groups
01:22that have risked their lives in the streets.
01:24The Bolivian Workers' Center represented an eight-point proposal to the government with
01:29the goal of establishing a negotiating table to bring peace to the country.
01:34However, the indigenous and peace movement interprets the decision as a lifeline for a
01:38government weekend after nearly 50 days of uninterrupted protest, without the executive branch renouncing
01:45its privatization and austerity policies.
01:47In the face of this tense, the organizations assured that they will keep the resistance alive,
01:52and they highlighted a divide between the COV leadership and the mobilized ranks.
02:14In Colombia, presidential candidate Iván Cepeda presented an official medical certificate in Bogotá to refute the claims made by the
02:22campaign of his rival, Abelardo de la Espriella, who publicly questioned his physical fitness to assume the
02:28office of head of state.
02:29In a statement to the media, the historical-packed candidate asserted that his health is excellent
02:35and that he is fully capable of serving as President of the Republic, describing these allegations
02:40as part of his smear campaign.
02:42The controversy arose from the publication of an official statement by De la Espriella's campaign
02:48team, which asserted that Cepeda suffered from serious physical limitations that prevented
02:52him from meeting the demands of the office.
02:54Previously, De la Espriella himself had released his own medical exams conducted in Barranquilla,
03:00arguing that it is the duty of all presidential candidates to make their medical records transparent
03:05to the electorate before the election.
03:14On Tuesday, Venezuelan active President Elsa Rodriguez received executives from Repsol Edmira Flores Palace for the signing of a memorandum
03:22of understanding
03:23an oil guest in other matters between PDVSA and the Spanish company.
03:28In this scenario, Repsol's chief executive officer Josu Jon Imaz highlighted the strategic value
03:34of the strong relationship between the multinational company and the South American country.
03:39Repsol and Venezuela's state oil industry are strategic partners with more than 30 years
03:45of collaboration, seeking to strengthen alliances that promote foreign investment in the country
03:50and supported the development of its productive sector.
03:53Repsol's expertise across the entire energy value chain combined with PDVSA's contributes to activities
03:59ranging from oil and gas exploration and production to refining, marketing and developing new renewable energy projects.
04:13In this context, Venezuela's acting president, Elsie Rodriguez also emphasized that this agreement
04:18not only guarantees the country's gas and electricity supply, but also outlines an energy agenda throughout
04:242050 that will benefit all of humanity.
04:29I also want to share some good news.
04:32that we, both Repsol and PDVSA, under the support of the Ministry of Hydrocarbons,
04:37will not continue to explore other areas of cooperation to keep growing, which is what matters, to look towards the
04:44future.
04:45We are talking about an energy agenda that looks ahead to 2050.
04:50And in this energy agenda, in which both Venezuela and its international partners are involved,
04:56let us consider the benefits it will bring to humanity.
04:59I appreciate this agreement, and I appreciate that Repsol has been a partner committed to the Venezuelan people.
05:07As the president of Venezuela pointed out,
05:11guaranteeing gas for households, industries, the electricity sector, and the petrochemical industry.
05:18And that today we are also expanding into the oil sector.
05:22Thank you Repsol. Our doors are open in Venezuela for you to continue expanding your investments,
05:28which are guaranteed by new regulations, so that you can continue to view our country as a reliable partner in
05:34which to invest your capital,
05:36but also as a reliable partner to march together towards the future of the world.
05:44On Tuesday, the Brazilian Federal Supreme Court delivered a historic ruling against former Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro,
05:50son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, for calling on the United States government to impose sanctions on the South American
05:56nation.
05:56The ruling is categorical and finds him guilty of coercion and of illegally attempting to get the United States government
06:03to interfere in the legal proceedings facing his father.
06:06The decision reached unanimously in the absence of the defendant represents a resounding blow to foreign interference
06:14and the coup plots that threaten democracy in Latin America.
06:17The Supreme Court found it proven that Eduardo Bolsonaro traveled to the United States in early 2025,
06:23with the aim of pressuring the Trump administration to impose trade tariffs on Brazil,
06:28and even more seriously, to personally sanction the judges investigating his father, who is accused of being a coup plotter.
06:44Mexico's president, Claudia Sheinbaum, stated that Mexico would always support the free self-determination of people and oppose blockades.
06:51In the specific case of Cuba, the president supports his free self-determination and opposes punishing the Cuban people.
06:57She also called for dialogue and peaceful solution.
07:03We will always seek the self-determination of people as our constitution states, and we do so out of conviction.
07:10We do not agree with blockades, they harm the people, not the governments of the people.
07:15And in the case of Cuba, we will always stand with its determination, ensuring that the Cuban people are not
07:22punished
07:22and that dialogue is always so rather than violent solutions.
07:27That will always be our position, our opinion, and our solidarity with the people of Cuba,
07:32which is a long-standing tradition in Mexico.
07:39And now we have a short break coming up.
07:41But first, remember, you can join us on TikTok at Telles in English,
07:44or you will find news in different formats, news updates, and more.
07:47We'll be right back. Stay with us.
08:16Welcome back to From the South.
08:17We continue with more information.
08:19Intense colors and faces marked by history of scenes of everyday Brazilian life arrived in Asia for the first time.
08:27In the Chinese capital, the work of Candido Portinari serves as a bridge between two worlds.
08:33Our correspondent Bruno Falci brings us the following report.
08:38In the heart of Beijing, the National Museum of China is hosting one of the most important exhibitions ever dedicated
08:46to Brazilian artist Candido Portinari.
08:49For the first time in Asia, the painter's work arrives at one of the world's leading cultural institutions,
08:57marking a meeting between art, history, and dialogue between Brazil and China.
09:06Here, we have a historic milestone.
09:09A meeting between two cultures, a dialogue of the global south built through art.
09:14Art serves as a tool to bring people closer together.
09:19We are seeing China deepen its understanding of Brazil through the great artist Portinari.
09:25He remarkably portrays the historical moments experienced by Brazil between the 1930s and the 1950s,
09:33a fundamental period in the construction of Brazilian identity.
09:36The exhibition brings together 56 works selected from a collection of more than 5,400 pieces by Candido Portinari,
09:46one of the leading figures of 20th-century Brazilian art.
09:50The works are organized into four thematic sections that explore different dimensions of his production,
09:57from everyday life to expressions of Brazil's social and cultural realities.
10:03The exhibition is curated by his son, João Candido Portinari.
10:09The idea of bringing a painter who dedicated his life to solidarity, fraternity, world peace, and social justice
10:16is to present Brazil to China through the front door.
10:19The real Brazil, the deep Brazil.
10:20The Brazil combines both its joys and its sorrows, and which appears with great strength in Portinari's work.
10:26In the immigrants, we see the most tragic side, the harshness of social life.
10:31In the country waiting, we see his most lyrical side, with children playing and scenes of everyday life.
10:37Ultimately, it is a complete portrait of Brazil.
10:40The exhibition has generated significant interest among Chinese audiences.
10:46Around 30,000 visitors per day are expected, and the exhibition could attract up to 4 million people over its
10:54four-month run.
10:56For many visitors, this is their first encounter with Portinari's work.
11:03I really enjoy this exhibition and these artworks because I can feel the emotions the art is wanted to express.
11:09In his work, he portrays the powerful and the oppressors in a very critical way.
11:14His strange broad stories convey a sense of hardship and oppression.
11:17There are also paintings with very intense color depicting children who suffer exploitation and oppression.
11:23Some of the images are shocking and even painful, but after learning the stories behind them, I realized that these
11:29events truly happened.
11:31This helps me better understand the past and appreciate the value of the piece we enjoy today.
11:35Candido Portinari's exhibition is part of the Brazil-China Cultural Year,
11:40an initiative that promotes cultural exchange between the two countries across different artistic fields.
11:47The program, launched by President Lula and Xi Jinping, seeks to strengthen ties between the peoples of the global south
11:55and deepen the relationship between Brazil and China as strategic partners in the construction of a fairer and more multipolar
12:03international order.
12:05Bruno Fauci, Beijing, China for Telesur.
12:11On Wednesday, the Russian-Asian Business Forum opened with the participation of international representatives
12:16of the Bashir-Ramiv Technology Park in the Russian city of Kazan.
12:20The event began with government officials from Southeast Asia and business leaders from the region in attendance.
12:26The participants are discussing international trade, traditional values and cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Union.
12:34This year, the summit marks the 35th anniversary of relations between Russia and Xi Jinping.
12:39Moreover, Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold a series of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the event.
13:08Moving on to the Middle East, Iran has confirmed that the agreements to achieve peace with the United States
13:13have not yet been finalized, but the progress made in the negotiations represents an important step.
13:20Iran's President, Massoud Pazizkian, stated that the discussions, so far,
13:23symbolize a step toward ending the armed conflict and beginning the path toward dialogue and diplomacy.
13:29Karan expressed his willingness to consider all options, but will remain committed to the interests of the Iranian people.
13:35Pazizkian highlighted the nation's resilience in the face of what he described as an attempt to destabilization by foreign powers.
13:50New attacks by Israeli occupation troops in southern Lebanon challenge the new agreement between Iran and the United States.
13:57The Israeli Air Force carried out several attacks in various areas of southern Lebanon, leaving more than five people dead.
14:04According to local media, aircraft from the Zionist entity fly over various regions in alleged combat drills.
14:11Israeli artillery also targeted the town of Ali Altajero, while shells struck the government's hospital in Naviberri.
14:18These actions undermined two agreements to end the war.
14:28Amnesty International reported that the restrictions imposed by Israel in southern Lebanon continue to hinder the return of thousands of
14:36civilians to their home,
14:37a situation that according to the organization has led to further displacements since 2024.
14:43According to the report, evacuation orders and restrictions on access to southern border areas affect 10,000 people and keep
14:52families away from their communities of origin.
14:55The organization warns that these measures could constitute a violation of international humanitarian law and called for guarantees to protect
15:03the civilian population.
15:04Meanwhile, humanitarian organizations continue to closely monitor the impact of the situation on the Lebanese population.
15:24We now go with our special segment on the occasion of the World Cup.
15:28Beyond the game, the ball stays pure. Go ahead, Luis. A pleasure to share the set with you once again.
15:34Hello once more, Lorena, and to our audience. That's right, it has been a good day yesterday for football, and
15:39this day, this Wednesday, promised to be the same.
15:41In just a few minutes, Portugal will be making its debut against the Democratic Republic of the Congo,
15:45and later we will have England versus Croatia in another very England match contest.
15:50But more after the break.
16:16Welcome to Beyond the Game.
16:17When the ball stays pure defending champions, Argentina made an emphatic start to their 2026 World Cup campaign, defeating Algeria
16:253-0 in their opening Group J match.
16:27Lionel Escalon inside controlled possession from the outset and showed the quality that has made them one of the tournament
16:33favorites.
16:34Lionel Messi delivered another historic performance scoring all three goals and moving level with Miroslav Klose on the all-time
16:40World Cup scoring charts.
16:42Messi's finishing, movement, and leadership proved decisive as Argentina controlled the match from start to finish.
16:48However, the game was not without controversy.
16:51Messi was involved in a heavy challenge that has sparked a lot of debate, with many arguing the incident could
16:56have warranted a red card.
17:05For its part, Austria opened its World Cup journey with a valuable 3-1 victory over Jordan, keeping pace with
17:11Argentina after the opening round of matches.
17:13Austria started brightly and took control through an energetic attacking display using quick passing and intelligent movement to break down
17:20Jordan's defense.
17:22Jordan showed resilience and managed to find the net, but Austria's superior quality in key moments ultimately made the difference.
17:40And after last night's results in Group J, Argentina sits on top of the standings, giving the defending champions a
17:47good start on their quest to defend the title.
17:49Austria is right behind in second place after defeating Jordan, also on three points but with a slightly lower goal
17:55difference.
17:55Algeria currently occupies third place while Jordan is fourth after both sides suffered defeats on matchday one.
18:01The spotlight now turns to the next round where Argentina and Austria will meet in a battle for first place.
18:13And in a few minutes, Portugal and the Democratic Republic of the Congo will face in their 2026 World Cup
18:19debut.
18:20From New York, our correspondent Harry Camelo tells us more on the significant match.
18:27Hello and greetings from New York City.
18:30Today in Houston, football offers more than a match.
18:35It offers a meeting of mysteries.
18:38Portugal and the Democratic Republic of Congo opened their World Cup campaigns in Group K.
18:45But the story stretches far beyond 90 minutes.
18:50Portugal arrives as one of Europe's established powers, a nation that has produced legends from Eusebio to Cristiano Ronaldo.
19:00The Portuguese have reached the World Cup semifinals twice, finishing third in 1966 and fourth in 2006,
19:10and entered this tournament dreaming of a first world title.
19:14For New York Congo, the journey is different and deeply symbolic.
19:18The nation returns to the World Cup for the first time since 1974, when it competed as SEER and became
19:27the first sub-Saharan African country to appear on football's biggest stage.
19:33More than 50 years later, a new generation carries the hope of millions eager to write a brighter chapter.
19:42The political history between these nations is complex.
19:48Portugal's age of exploitation helped shape centuries of European involvement along Africa's coast,
19:56while Congo's history reflects the long struggle of African nations to define their own future African colonial rule.
20:06Today, however, the battlefield is not political.
20:09It is a football pitch.
20:11As Cristiano Ronaldo begins what it could be his final World Cup,
20:16Dear Congo seeks to prove that hard resilience and belief can challenge even the Games giants.
20:25Today, it's Portugal's tradition against Congo's ambition, history against hope, and for 90 minutes the world will be washing.
20:37That's all what I have from New York City. Back to you, in the studio.
20:43Thank you, Henry.
20:45Let's now learn more about Group K, the teams and the stars that we will be taking to the field
20:50today.
20:53It is considered one of the most competitive due to the clash of styles between Europe and South America,
20:58combined with African strength and an Asian debut.
21:02Portugal. It stands out for its powerful midfield. Its creativity and offensive play are deadly,
21:09helping it build on its extensive World Cup experience.
21:13Democratic Republic of the Congo. Having qualified for the World Cup through the playoffs,
21:18this team is known for its physical strength, speed and solid defense.
21:23Uzbekistan. Qualified for the World Cup for the first time.
21:26The Asian team is the wild card in this group, noted for its solid defense and team play.
21:31Colombia. One of Comebol's strongest teams. Its strength lies in its vertical play and solid defense.
21:38Offense and defense will be the key factors in this group.
21:42The combination of skills is a crucial element for the second round.
21:47The best starting players and leaders from each country in this region include world-class stars and promising young talents.
21:55The Portuguese national team features Cristiano Ronaldo as this iconic figure with global impact and a goal-scoring instinct.
22:03Alongside Cristiano is Vitinha, who stands out for his extraordinary vision, playmaking and precise ball control in tight spaces.
22:12Colombia returns with players like James Rodriguez, who stands out for his exceptional left foot and superior reading of the
22:20game.
22:20The emerging Uzbekistan team features forward Abos Bik Faisulaev, the creative brain and promising young talent for what will be
22:29their historic World Cup debut.
22:31The Democratic Republic of the Congo is represented by Cedric Bakambu, a forward with intelligent running off the ball, speed
22:39into space and a great sense of positioning.
22:42The fate of this group will be decided on the wings, forcing the defensive midfielders to constantly cover, leaving open
22:50spaces in the midfield.
22:54Well, this is all for now in this edition of Beyond the Game, the post is pure.
22:57Remember, in just a few minutes, Portugal takes the field against the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
23:02We'll see what happened in that game.
23:04We'll go back to you, Lorena.
23:06Thank you so much, Luizzi, for keeping us posted on all this information.
23:10In the context of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
