00:00Several commemorative events are on their way throughout Bolivia as the South American
00:19nation celebrates the 200th anniversary of its independence.
00:28Groups of social activists and pensioners in Argentina rallied Wednesday to demand the
00:33government to meet their requests.
00:38And the Chinese government showed its support for Brazil's fight to defend its economic
00:43certainty in the face of the entry into force of the United States tariffs.
00:51Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:56We begin with the news, stay with us.
01:12Several commemorative events are underway throughout Bolivia.
01:42The South American nation celebrates the 200th anniversary of its independence.
01:46In an honor session at the House of Liberty, the President of the Plurinational State,
01:53Luis Arce, stressed the importance of unity to continue building on the conquest achieved
01:58by independence heroes and the people.
02:01The Bolivian President warned against division, stressing that only united would Bolivians
02:06prevent a return to neoliberal models.
02:09President Luis Arce said that the 2009 constitutional reform led to the refounding of Bolivia after
02:15years of neoliberal rule.
02:18Sovereignty, the definition of our economic policy, income distribution, as well as nationalization
02:32and industrialization, with the substitution of imports, became the heart of our social
02:37and community-based productive economic model, leaving behind the long neoliberal night.
02:42In this way, an alliance was consolidated between the indigenous farmers' movement, led by the
02:48Unity Pact, and the workers' movement, led by the Bolivian Workers' Union.
02:53Another strategic step in our democratic and cultural revolution, was the convening of a
02:58constituent assembly, which resulted in the current new political constitution, enacted in 2009,
03:05with which we refounded our country.
03:10The Bolivian head of state affirmed that Evo Morales' administration focused on recovering
03:14natural resources for the country's development.
03:21Under Evo Morales, the first indigenous person to be elected president, this period was intense
03:26because the challenges were enormous.
03:27It was a matter of fulfilling the people's agenda to recover the natural resources that
03:31had been taken away.
03:32And to that end, we ordered the nationalization of hydrocarbons, the nationalization of international
03:36telecommunications companies, and the nationalization of the pension system, among other measures.
03:44For his part, Vice President David Chokehuanca addressed the continued struggle to decolonize
03:49Republican thinking that drives the nation away from the plurinational system.
03:54Brothers and sisters, from the awareness, from the roots of the great majorities, we must acknowledge
04:10that the war for independence did not make us independent and free to all.
04:20The plurinational state, colonial, racist, and throughout centuries did not manage to solve
04:35the basic issues of the majorities of the national territory.
04:47Governments have been celebrating the Bicentennial since the start of the month.
04:51On Wednesday, events started with the rising of the flag in the state of capital of Sucre,
04:55in the department of Chukisaca, where thousands headed by President Luis Arce gathered at the
05:00historic Plaza 25 de Mayo, in front of the Casa de la Libertad.
05:06Afterwards, the head of state received the formal greeting from the international delegations
05:10present.
05:11Later in the day, significant cultural activities will unfold, including a concert by the Youth
05:16Symphony Orchestra of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
05:19In this context, the government of Venezuela sent heartfelt congratulations to the sister
05:32nation of Bolivia in its bicentennial of independence.
05:35Through an official statement, the Bolivarian government extended its warmest greetings to
05:40the government and people of the plurinational state of Bolivia.
05:44The greetings highlight how this founding act was the fruit of the unwavering courage of
05:50the indigenous peoples, of brave women and men who rose up against colonialism.
05:54The communique follows by stating, Bolivia has been an example of resistance, dignity and
06:01rebellion, building its destiny from the hands of a conscious and sovereign people.
06:06In its closing remarks, the Venezuelan government reaffirmed its commitment to the unity of our peoples
06:11nations and to the libertarian ideals that unite us.
06:20In this regard, Cuba's President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez congratulated on X the Latin American
06:25nation with the following message.
06:27We sent a warm and strong embrace to the government and people of Bolivia on the 200th anniversary
06:33of the Declaration of Independence of that sister nation of our America.
06:39All our support to the plurinational state in the defense of its sovereignty.
06:53On the other hand, President Nicolás Maduro wrote on social media about Bolivia's Bicentennial.
06:59In spite of the attacks and threats by the pro-imperialist right, Bolivia rises today as a sovereign
07:04people, proud of its cultural and social diversity and committed to the justice and self-determination
07:11of its peoples.
07:12And we stay in Venezuela as government representatives later wrath at the National Pantheon in Carecas
07:24in the framework of the Bicentennial of Bolivia's independence.
07:28Present at the ceremony were Venezuelan Vice President Adelsi Rodriguez, Minister of Interior,
07:34Justice and Peace, Diosdado Cabello, Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino, among other authorities.
07:39The tribute to the South American country was laid in front of the sarcophagus of the father
07:44of the nation, Liberator Simón Bolívar, an offering that highlights the strong historical
07:50bonds of unity, respect and fraternity between both countries.
07:54We congratulate President Arsa, his government, and the people of Bolivia for its foundation
08:09two centuries ago.
08:11When we say that anti-imperialist, anti-colonialist blood runs in our veins, it is not a speech.
08:17You see there, the Venezuelan people are deeply internationalist.
08:20About two centuries ago Venezuelan men and women crossed our border to go to the highlands
08:25of Peru, to liberate their provinces from Spanish colonialism, leaves a great teaching
08:30for our people.
08:31And today Bolivar calls us more than ever to consolidate the union of our countries, above
08:35all to remain firm in the defense of independence, of sovereignty, of not letting the empire impose
08:41on us any mandate other than the mandate of popular sovereignty.
08:44That is not the mandate of our people.
08:49And now we have a short break coming up, but first remember you can join us on TikTok at
08:53TeleStory English, where you'll find news in different formats, news updates and more.
08:56We'll be right back, stay with us.
09:06Welcome back to From the South.
09:08The President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, presided over on Wednesday the meeting of the
09:13Federal Council of Government.
09:15During the meeting, the President highlighted the importance of the Council describing it
09:20as an effective instrument to bring positions closer together.
09:24The head of state also affirmed that the creation of the government body will allow governors,
09:29majors and majorities to provide a firm support to the people's power in the implementation
09:35of its projects with professional advice, machinery and economic resources.
09:42The Federal Council of Government is a tremendous tool to reach positions closer and to boost government
10:00capacities without any doubt and methodologies for many years.
10:18I've seen in the past 12 years as a president, I've seen many governors here, women and men in
10:35this role, I've seen majors, women and men as well.
10:39In other news, groups of social activists and pensioners in Argentina rallied Wednesday to
10:51demand the government to meet their requests.
10:54The demonstration took place in the vicinity of the Legislative Palace, where social projects
10:59are being debated.
11:00The protesters urged the Chamber of Deputies not to give in to the government pressure and
11:05approve the projects in favour of the most vulnerable sectors.
11:10Wednesday's rally is one more of the hundreds of expressions against the non-liberal measures
11:15of Millet's administration.
11:16The Federal Police activated its anti-riot protocol and cordoned off the National Congress, meeting
11:23point of the demonstrators.
11:30The creation of the Attorney General's Office in Nicaragua was approved by the National Assembly
11:37during the first legislative session.
11:40The unanimous approval of the creation of the judicial body responds to instructions mandating
11:45decisive action to prosecute, try and punish any form of corruption that undermines the interests
11:51of the people.
11:52The initiative specifies that the Attorney General's Office will incorporate all current bodies as
11:58well as the Public Prosecutor's Office and other agencies performing similar functions to
12:03ensure the protection of national heritage.
12:10In Nicaragua, the National Assembly approved the border territory law which determines the
12:18safeguarding of the borders to prevent crimes committed by organized crime and international
12:23drug trafficking.
12:24With urgency and 91 votes in favour, the Nicaraguan Legislative Body unanimously approved the border
12:31territory law to strengthen its sovereignty and guarantee peace, security and territorial integrity.
12:37The initiative defines that the border territory is property of the State, delimiting its 15km
12:43from the borderline towards the interior of the country to prevent external threats and to confront crimes that threaten the security of Nicaraguan families.
12:52Strengthening the legal framework for the defense of the interests of the people.
12:59The approval of the border territory law is fundamental to guarantee the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national security of Nicaragua by establishing a clearly delimited area
13:21of 15km from the conventional border.
13:26The State reaffirms its control over an essential strategic zone to prevent external interference
13:35in illicit activities such as money laundering, drug trafficking, and human trafficking.
13:42This does not affect any Nicaraguan who is established in the zone.
13:51He continues to be established, he continues to develop his normal life, but this is a zone controlled
13:59by the Nicaraguan State to ensure the peace, security, and territorial integrity of all Nicaraguans.
14:08New U.S. tariffs against Brazilian goods entered into effect Wednesday amid political tensions
14:15between both nations in relation to the coup attempt trial faced by former President Haid Bolsonaro.
14:21The new tariffs were justified by the White House as a corrective action against Brazil's alleged unfair trade practices.
14:29However, analysts and authorities openly linked the new levies to the judicial process against the former President.
14:37The measure implies an additional 50% tariff on a wide range of Brazilian goods, with strategic exceptions such as orange juice,
14:46precious metals, cellulose pulp, and civil aviation supplies, which Washington considers key products for U.S. industries.
14:54The tariff increase threatens to leave 150,000 Brazilians employees without jobs.
15:03The Chinese government showed its support for Brazil's fight to defend its economic sovereignty in the face of the entry into force of the United States tariffs.
15:25In this regard, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi condemned the U.S. interference in the South American country
15:31and described the use of tariffs as a pressure measure by Washington.
15:35The diplomat reaffirmed his support to Brazil's right to development and highlighted its role in the strengthening of the Global South through the BRICS block.

17:36The meeting was requested by the Israeli occupation and supported by the United States, the United Kingdom and France.
17:43During the session, there was a double narrative, one promoted by Western powers to prioritize the return of Israeli captives,
17:50and another supported by multiple nations that highlighted the genocide campaign waged by the Israeli occupation against more than 2 million besieged Palestinians.

18:25In recent statements to the press, the head of state assured that his main worries are on the people in Gaza receiving food,
18:32while on the potential occupation he manifested it was going to be up to Israel.
18:37This way, Trump reaffirms his stance as Washington continues providing millions of dollars in military aid to Israel,

19:48According to the Kremlin, it's the fifth gathering between Putin and Wedkoff so far this year, but without achieving a conclusive ceasefire in Ukraine.
19:58A heat wave in Spain has met of alarms in various autonomous communities where several forest fires have broken out.
20:25According to local media, the extreme weather conditions with high temperatures and strong winds have undermined firefighters' efforts to put out three wildfires in the towns of Tarifa, Ponteceso and Ayurve.

20:47Forest fires in the south of France have left to one death, eight injured and raised over 10,000 hectares of vegetation.
21:02The fires burning in the mountains region of Le Corviers in Auden, Arbona and Carcasona represented the largest blaze registered in the country in 2025.
