WFP welcomes €695m donation from US as it warns acute hunger to worsen in 13 hotspots

The WFP has said it wants to reach 110 million people in the most acute need around the world this year, for which it would require €11 billion.

00:02After eight cuts, the UN Food Agency said it has received a 690 million euros grant by the United States.
00:11The UN World Food Programme said this funding will support its operations to assist more than 38 million of people
00:18in 37 countries,
00:20such as displaced families by the war in Lebanon or Ebola-hit regions in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
00:26Its operations include pre-positioning food supplies, delivering aid and responding to natural disasters.
00:34The number of people facing hunger is expected to rise to record levels this year, the WFP warned.
00:40The US is the agency's biggest donor, but its contributions have more than halved from 2024 to 1.7 billion

00:49Last year, the UN WFP had warned US cuts to emergency food programmes would amount to, quote,
