00:00The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo could become the worst on record if it's not contained quickly,
00:07according to Africa's Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
00:12The agency's Director General, Jean Kaseya, says without rapid intervention, the current outbreak could surpass previous crisis in both West
00:20and East Africa.
00:23He was referring to the 2014-2016 West African outbreak that spread across Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.
00:31That epidemic claimed more than 11,000 lives and remains the deadliest Ebola outbreak ever recorded.
00:38Kaseya warned that delays in response could significantly increase both the human and financial cost of containment.
00:44More than 800 cases of the Bundibuja strain have now been reported in the DRC, including 192 deaths.
00:53In response, Africa's CDC has launched a campaign to raise US$518 million over the next six months.
01:00However, funding remains well below target.
01:03Less than US$100 million has been secured, raising concerns over the scale of the response.
