05:32donald trump avenue the langana government has planned to name a prominent road
05:37near the u.s consulate in hyderabad's financial district as donald trump avenue the road located
05:45adjacent to the u.s consulate is expected to be formally inaugurated later this month
05:55and on to our top story this evening well for lakhs of indians students need is not just an examination
06:03it is a dream a dream that is built on years of sacrifice relentless preparation and the hopes of
06:10entire families that are involved but that dream that was shaken by the paper league controversy
06:17now with the neat re-examination that is to happen on the 21st of june the government's challenge is not
06:24just to conduct that exam or conduct the re-exam especially after what has happened it is to restore
06:31that trust and in that battle telegram has emerged as the latest flashpoint now in an extraordinary move
06:39that was taken by the government that has decided to temporarily restrict the telegram app in india
06:47till the 22nd of june so that is a day after the re-exam happens on the 21st the action
06:54that comes
06:54with concerns that the platform was being used to spread misinformation that is linked to need now
07:01according to the national testing agency the restrictions are aimed at protecting the integrity
07:06of the re-examination and preventing the circulation of misleading content during the crucial exam period
07:14which by the way has also been flagged by the aspirants even in this time telegram will remain
07:21restricted through the day of the examination and its immediate aftermath that is still the 22nd june
07:27and certain features that will be blocked till the 30th of june the nta has welcomed this move calling
07:33it a timely intervention the agency has said that the restrictions are temporary targeted and intended to
07:41counter alleged cheating networks operating on this platform now according to the nta the objective is
07:49very simple ensure that the exam is conducted in a fair and secure manner and there are no controversies
07:57around the re-examination which again will have lakhs of students sit for it the agency has claimed that
08:04fake paper leak narratives that are allegedly being created through telegram's editing feature now
08:11according to the nta an old post that could be edited after an examination was even over
08:18the actual question paper could then be attached later while the original time stamp remains unchanged
08:26now to users the post could appear as though the paper had been uploaded before the examination
08:32screenshots that would then circulate rapidly online at a very very fast pace one can imagine
08:38fueling leak claims and anxiety among students and several cases of this nature have been reported
08:44the nta has said that this is precisely what raised red flags its concern is that editable posts
08:52unchanged time stamps viral screenshots that could create a false impression of a paper leak
08:59even when it has not even occurred according to the agency such content had the potential of spreading
09:07misinformation confusion chaos undermine the confidence of students yet again in the examination process
09:14and trigger panic among aspirates the government has insisted that these measures are necessary and
09:21they are being done in the interest of students critics may debate the restrictions and that is again become a
09:27talking point but one thing is clear the battle over neath is no longer confined to just the examination
09:34centers or the glitches in the nta website or even the delay in the admit cards as has been said
09:40it is now being fought online largely in chat groups on social media feeds and in the race to stop
09:48misinformation before it spreads and this has become a bigger challenge than the others
09:55the larger challenge also now is not just conducting a secure examination it is about convincing
10:01and winning the faith of millions of students that their future will be decided by merit and merit alone
10:10we're getting you this report
10:24the battle to restore faith in india's biggest medical entrance exam is now being fought on land
10:31in the air and online days before the need to retest the government has taken the extraordinary step
10:38of temporarily blocking telegram in india the national testing agency claims the messaging platform was
10:47being exploited by cheating networks to spread misinformation and create fake paper leak narratives
10:55authorities say the move is aimed at protecting the integrity of the examination and restoring trust among
11:01students the platform was continuously being misused by scamsters by fraudsters by sharing fake question
11:18papers as as kind of genuine question papers and trying to fool people into paying for those question
11:26papers and trying to exploit the anxiousness that students have at the heart of the controversy is telegrams
11:35message editing feature the agency says this loophole was allegedly used to create misleading evidence of paper leaks
11:42according to the nta administrators could allegedly edit old posts after an examination had concluded
11:50question papers could then be attached to those posts while the original time stamp remained unchanged
11:56to the ordinary user it could appear as though the question paper had been available before the examination
12:04and confusion spread among students already under immense pressure
12:11now authorities are fighting back telegram access has been blocked until june 22nd its message editing feature
12:19for existing post has been disabled till june 30th and the dedicated cyber surveillance network
12:26has been activated to monitor examination related content online the crackdown comes as the government rolls out
12:35unprecedented security measures for the need to retest question papers are being airlifted by the indian air force
12:43crpf and cisa personnel are being deployed at examination centers for lack of students need is not just an examination
12:53it is years of sacrifice years of preparation this time authorities say the challenge is not only to stop a
13:01paper leak
13:01the big question can the government restore trust bureau report india today
13:17in fact google has received an order from the indian government to delist telegram app from its app store
13:25amid concerns of medical exam fraud now sources also tell india today that apple has confirmed that
13:31it will comply with the indian government order to delist telegram app from its app store amid concerns of
13:39medical exam fraud in fact google has received an order from the indian government to delist telegram app
13:46from its play store amid concerns of medical exam fraud all of this coming in from sources
13:51i take this to my colleague anmol bali who's tracking the very latest anmol do tell us uh
13:58what has been confirmed from apple's end and how soon will they action the indian government's order
14:09as you know for the greater good of the students today we have seen the government of india
14:14ministry of information technology national test agency has a restricted use of telegram messaging
14:20app till 22 of the june the next day of the re-neet examination and its editing feature will be
14:28disabled
14:28because this feature has been widely used by fraudsters and scammers on the social media we have been seeing
14:34from the last many weeks on the twitter as well as on the telegram we are seeing many groups are
14:38coming
14:38up which are showing up the re-neet uh question paper and keeping all that in mind the government of
14:43india
14:44has taken a step even uh they have returned to apple uh apple's store apple's app store as well as
14:49play store
14:51to restrict the use of telegram on their platforms and even we have also seen that in the evening
14:56the google's play store which is used by the android phones has also restricted uh the telegram means the new
15:02users
15:02uh on the android phones now could not uh download the telegram from now on i am joined by one
15:07of the
15:08cyber expert mohit yadav to talk more on this sir basically we have seen the disabled they have
15:14disabled the editing tool on the telegram so sir how this was dangerous for spreading fake news because we
15:20are seeing that from last many days many people are coming up on the social media they are claiming that
15:25they have the re-neet uh question paper but how why and why government has disabled this editing tool
15:30see uh when we talk about telegram telegram is one source which is widely used by a lot of scammers
15:37a lot of uh unauthenticated people and socialist people being there on the different channels are
15:42there so what they do is they uh make an id make an channel which is anonymous anonymous means like
15:49no one
15:49no id is attached to it no phone number is attached to it so uh telegram can anyone join uh
15:56telegram with
15:57anonymous uh identity and they can start selling the papers or maybe distributing the content whatever
16:04is prohibited by the government so that's why the government has uh restrained people from editing
16:09any of the messages from the past apart from that also uh you will not be able to share messages
16:15in
16:15any of the telegram groups or uh in coming days it will not be accessible by anyone because
16:21the government has already taken hold of the telegram or in india region as of now i don't know like
16:26if it will be available for people to join telegram or access telegram with the vpn uh at this point
16:33because a lot of uh scammers and a lot they don't know all these tricks of using telegram from various
16:40different kind of going from a backdoor kind of situation using vpn or uh starting setting up a
16:46telegram from a different number so that is one thing we need to be a restriction on the telegram
16:55it is going to help the agencies to track down to limit the sources who the people who are trying
17:02to
17:03do all those uh question papers and all those leakage stuffs using the telegram why this kind of
17:08ban was not implemented on other messaging apps like whatsapp many people are asking that even on
17:14whatsapp you can share a lot data and content but why only on telegram see telegram is something
17:19which is has anonymity more anonymous because telegram does not gives uh the data of the customer like
17:25who is logged in from which location it is logged in but whatsapp has this feature this yes when you
17:32talk about any kind of information from whatsapp they can give you the details about the user or
17:37its ip but telegram will not give so so clearly you can see soisha how whatsapp and telegram
17:43both are both are messaging platforms and how both are different even the expert has explained
17:49us that how telegram could be used by the fraudster to to i think disseminate fake news on the social
17:56media because we have been single from last many days that nta has been answering even on twitter as
18:00well as they have been they have roped in other agencies to stop these kind of fraudsters on the
18:05social media platform today we have seen the government of india has taken a big step after google play
18:10store now apple will also be restricting telegram on their app store soisha but you know like
18:17cyber security experts are pointing out that if hackers do find a way to circumvent even through
18:23telegram then it will be a cause of major concern but i request you to do stay on because after
18:29that
18:29paper leak shattered the confidence of the system the government is now being forced to do something
18:35unprecedented and resort to several steps like that question papers that are no longer moving through
18:41a routine examination network like how it used to they are now moving through a security apparatus
18:49that increasingly resembles a very high value national operation the indian air force has been pressed into
18:57service to deliver on this front question papers that are being airlifted to 18 hubs across the country
19:05mi-17 helicopters that are being deployed to reach remote locations across the country to carry the
19:12question papers safely without it changing multiple hands authorities say that an unbroken chain of
19:20custody that is being maintained till the 21st while officials from both the defense and education
19:27ministries monitor the movement of the papers the obvious question then is if the system was secure
19:35in the first place then why are military assets now being needed to move the examination papers
19:42the security net does not end there sources say crpf and cisf personnel are on high alert the indian
19:51cyber crime coordination center that has activated monitoring of online threats question papers will
19:58travel under escort and every step will be watched very very closely cyber surveillance that is operating
20:07round the clock even railways has established a control room to facilitate the movement of the students
20:15so taken together these measures that reveal that the scale of concern within the system after last
20:22year's controversy is massive because this is now no longer just about conducting an examination it is
20:30about rebuilding trust and we now break down how the papers are being sent to the examination centers
20:38so take a closer look at the graphics especially we are playing out on taking a scenario of how the
20:46operation let's say begins in delhi confidential question papers that will first leave from the national
20:54capital and remember this will be conducted by the indian air force now they will be airlifted to main
21:00cities let's say for example madurai that we are showing you so now the air force has transferred the
21:06question papers from delhi to madurai from there the papers will be transferred to an army helicopter
21:19after landing the papers will be moved under the escort to under escort to the armed reserve ground and
21:31throughout this journey air force officials who will remain part of the security cover eyeing every step of
21:39how the papers are being transferred from point a to point b now think about this entire operation for a
21:46moment aircraft then military helicopters armed escorts gunned personnel cyber surveillance paramilitary
21:57deployment all of it for a single examination that is the need re-exam to happen on the 21st of
22:06june
22:06the government says that these measures are essential to prevent another leak but they also
22:12raise uncomfortable questions how did the system reach a point where an entrance examination now
22:19requires this level of extraordinary protection and more importantly will this unprecedented security
22:26operation be enough to convince students that this time the system will not fail them let me take this
22:34to my colleague shivani sharma joining us on the broadcast shivani each step has been planned with
22:40precision but most importantly the involvement of the indian air force of the army who will now be
22:48transferring these question papers of course no case of a lapse or a leak that could happen there
22:54but this just speaks of the measures that the government is taking and how it has reached to this now
23:04see swisha this is the highest accountability that government has accepted after the paper leak
23:11happened and this is the mission mode into which all the agencies including the indian air force is into
23:18air lifting the papers to the sensitive locations using both transport aircraft like globe masters and
23:24helicopters to the inaccessible centers where these question papers need to be and thereafter from
23:32these centers they will be taken to particular examination centers in high security and this is a complete
23:40coordinated effort by multiple agencies be the alien air force be the capf be the local police of
23:47respective states so certainly this is a big challenge and as you were also mentioning that this yes this
23:53happens to be a high value national operation because it involves the future of lacks of students and that's
24:00what is we that's what we are witnessing but the larger question is that if the work had been done
24:06initially
24:08with full responsibility and with the all all the all the things at place this kind of an operation
24:16was not needed at all but now since the retest is happening this responsibility is on the indian air
24:23force to keep the papers intact right so that they are not exposed for a longer travel time
24:27they will be delivered to the respective centers using the transport aircraft and the helicopter swisha
24:35all right shivani at the moment i want to thank you for getting us those details
24:40and while the government's massive security operation ahead of the need three test is also
24:45a reminder of the deeper problem that is a crisis of trust because every extraordinary measure being
24:51announced today points back to a question that continues to haunt the examination system how did
24:57things reach this point the first blow came with the paper leak itself investigators alleged that question
25:03papers were compromised from within the examination custody chain triggering one of the biggest
25:09credibility crisis in the history of the test then of course came the retest process that has been fixed
25:15for the 21st now instead of restoring confidence technical glitches that happened during admit card
25:21issuance that left many students anxious and confused yet again but the concerns that did not even end there
25:28the government has now deployed military aircraft helicopters central forces and multiple security
25:34agencies to protect the question papers the question many are asking is simple if the system was robust
25:41enough why were such extraordinary measures suddenly required the troubles kept mounting scammers allegedly
25:49exploited the confusion surrounding the retest targeting students through fake refund offers and fraudulent
25:55schemes linked to the examination process and then came the battle against misinformation authorities say
26:02fakely claims and manipulated content spread rapidly online forcing unprecedented restrictions on telegram
26:09ahead of the examination so largely taken together these are not just isolated incidents they form a chain of
26:17events that has steadily eroded confidence of the aspirants and the system by and large the government
26:23says the retest will be protected by the most extensive security arrangements ever seen for a national
26:29examination but for lacks of students the real issue is not security alone it is a test of trust this
26:37time
26:42and well the opposition has stepped up its attack on the center ahead of the need re-test congress has
26:48questioned the government's ability to conduct examinations while panjab chief minister bhagwantman says that
26:54unprecedented deployment of security forces exposes systemic failures opposition leaders have also argued
27:01that need re-test itself is evidence of administrative lapses and claimed that restricting telegram alone will
27:07not address deeper problems in the examination system this net
27:58And we are shifting focus to the other big story.
28:01A disturbing case from Nagpur that has triggered outrage after a viral video allegedly showed
28:06a woman being forced to undergo a religious conversion.
28:10The survivor alleges she was drugged, sexually exploited and blackmailed before being pressured
28:16to convert.
28:17Police have arrested her former classmate Ayaz Taj and co-accused Amin Sheikh in connection
28:23with this case.
28:24A third accused, Maulana Hazrat, who allegedly played a role in the conversion process, is
28:30still on the run.
28:31The victim's husband is an Indian Air Force officer and police are now investigating
28:36the viral video along with other evidence submitted by the complainant.
28:40We are getting you all the details in this report.
28:56A young woman pleads them to let go.
29:12But the men around her continue what she alleges was a forced religious conversion ritual.
29:19This viral video is now at the heart of a sensational case being investigated by Nagpur police.
29:32The survivor, a 24-year-old woman, the wife of an Indian Air Force officer, alleges that
29:38her former classmate Ayaz Taj first approached her under the pretext of buying a property plot.
29:44She alleges she was given an intoxicating substance, sexually assaulted and filmed without her consent.
29:51The accused allegedly used those videos to blackmail her, repeatedly exploit her and extort over
29:583 lakh rupees.
29:59The woman further alleges she was taken to a secluded location where rituals were conducted
30:04and she was told that her religious conversion into Islam had been completed.
30:19Police say the viral video submitted by the complainant is being verified as evidence.
30:24Two accused, Ayaz Taj and Amin Sheikh have been arrested, while a third accused, Hazrat
30:29Mahurath Maulana remains absconding.
30:59Meanwhile, Vishwa Hindo Parishid called the
31:01it a case of love jihad and demanded thorough investigation.
31:30As police examined the video and other evidence,
31:33the case has sparked serious questions whether multiple illicit conversion rings are getting free run across many parts of India.
31:41Bureau Report, India Today.
31:54Let me take this to my colleague Divyash Singh who is tracking all the developments on this case.
31:58Divyash, extremely shocking and do you want to understand how the investigation is headed
32:02because the Maulana is still on the run, the search that is underway for him
32:06and even others who could be under the scanner, probably those who were in their know-how
32:11and could be doing this to other girls.
32:14Well, it is suspected that there could be other victims who are trapped,
32:18who are entrapped by this same group of persons.
32:21The Maulana who is accused in this case is still on the run.
32:26As you pointed out, two persons have been arrested.
32:29Ayaz Madari and his associates have been arrested.
32:32It is suspected that this could be a ring which was run by Ayaz Madari and his accomplices.
32:39The Maulana who is suspected of attempted conversion is also suspected to have carried out other such attempts of conversion
32:50and that is why police is investigating this case from all possible angles.
32:55A manhunt has been launched to nab this Maulana who is on the run.
33:00Meanwhile, two accused have been arrested.
33:02They are being interrogated.
33:03The police are trying to find out whether there were any other accomplices who joined them
33:09or there were other people involved in this attempted conversion and extortion racket.
33:16All right, Divya Shmany.
33:18Thanks for getting us those details.
33:21And on to other details.
33:23Yes, next time you walk into a chemist's shop and ask for a cough syrup,
33:27don't be surprised if you are asked for a doctor's prescription.
33:30Yes, in a major change that has been aimed at tightening drug safety norms,
33:35the centre has amended rules governing the sale of syrup-based medicines, including cough syrups.
33:41So, simply put, these medicines will no longer be available over-the-counter.
33:46A valid doctor's prescription will now be required before you can buy them.
33:50So, why has the government taken this step?
33:53The move that has come after years of growing concern over the misuse of cough syrups,
33:59self-medication and a series of alarming cases involving contaminated syrups.
34:06In recent years, India made cough syrups that came under international scrutiny
34:11after contamination-related incidents that had been reported
34:15and were linked, unfortunately, to the deaths of children in countries such as Gambia and Uzbekistan.
34:22Earlier this year, you would also remember how authorities in Madhya Pradesh
34:26had launched an investigation after two children died in Shifpuri district
34:29following the consumption of medicines, including cough syrup.
34:33Another incident that had been reported in Rajasthan's Alwar district,
34:37where five children lost their lives and several others fell ill
34:41after consuming medicines later found to contain harmful substances.
34:45Until now, cough syrups were part of a category of medicines
34:49that enjoyed certain exemptions under Schedule K of the drug's rules.
34:54This meant that they could be sold more freely,
34:57particularly in smaller towns and villages,
35:00where licensed pharmacies were not always available.
35:04Now, the latest amendment removes that exemption for syrups in specific,
35:08meaning that their sale will now be restricted to licensed pharmacies
35:13and under stricter supervision.
35:15Commonly sold over-the-counter cough syrups in India,
35:18such as Benadryl, Glycodin, ZX, Copsils, Himalaya Coughlet, Dabar Hanitas,
35:26they will now require a valid prescription from a registered medical practitioner
35:31to be purchased at retail pharmacies.
35:34Health experts have largely welcomed this move.
35:38They argue that cough syrups are among the most commonly self-prescribed medicines in India.
35:43The message from regulators is clear.
35:45Cough syrups may seem routine,
35:48but they are medicines and medicines that require oversight,
