00:00You know, I saw Jordan lose to, you know, the Celtics,
00:03and I saw him lose to the Pistons,
00:04and, like, he handled himself with a little bit more character than that.
00:07What was your – what's your takeaway on Wemby's finals?
00:13I'm a huge fan of Wemby.
00:14I got to say, I don't know what you're talking about as far as his press
00:17conferences or him standing, you know, during the national anthem
00:21with his arms crossed.
00:22I mean, you know, really, we're going to get so upset about that.
00:26I mean, get upset.
00:27Get upset with the people who don't stand during the national anthem
00:30in the stands or something like that or kneeling during the – you know,
00:34he's got his arms crossed.
00:35We're supposed to get upset.
00:37I'm a huge fan.
00:38He's 22 years old, for crying out loud.
00:40Here's a guy coming from France, speaks fluent English,
00:44can hold a press conference.
00:45I mean, I covered Yao Ming his whole career.
00:48I never knew he spoke English until he retired.
00:50So, you know, it's like, you know, I – no, I respect his game.
00:56Yeah, no, he made mistakes.
00:58He made – he made – but, again, coach him.
01:01Coach, I want to give you one thing that really, you know,
01:05just from a long-distance perspective, game three – when was the 29-point loss?
01:13Was that three or four?
01:14That was four.
01:15Okay, so at the end of the first half of that game, Wemby is like 20 seconds to go in
01:25the game.
01:26He pulls up almost from mid-court and takes the three-pointer.
01:31And I wrote down to myself, I said, if I'm the coach of this team, I am killing him at
01:38halftime.
01:38You might – I'm telling you, I wrote this down at halftime.
01:41I said it to my friends, I said, you just wasted a chance to increase that lead to 31 or
01:4832,
01:49but you wasted a shot, a possession, and look what happened.
01:54They lose by one point.
01:56I'm telling – but so – but he's being coached by a guy who, you know, he's a rookie himself.
02:03And, you know, he's got his arm around him all the time.
02:05Coach him.
02:06You know, I know – I know damn well Popovich would have screamed at him for that.
02:10You know, what would Larry Brown have done to him?
02:13You know, what would Hubie Brown have done?
02:15You know, I – so anyway, but I am a fan.
02:18Look, the kid is unbelievably talented.
02:21He just needs – he just needs to be put in a better position to take advantage of all his
02:28talent.
02:30What a talent.
02:31I mean, my goodness.
02:33When you look at that team, Peter, the average age is 22 years of age.
02:39I mean, is this part of the learning curve that we watched back in the 80s and 90s
02:44when the Celtics, you know, they were winning and then the Pistons had to learn to win,
02:48then the Bulls had to learn to win?
02:50Is this where this – if they could keep this team together, is this where this Spurs team is?
02:56It makes sense.
02:57You definitely need experience, and you need bad experience to move – to advance and be recognized.
03:04No question.
03:04We've seen it many times.
03:06But the fact that they got by Oklahoma City, which was, you know, two of their top players were injured,
03:14you know, for that series, but they did get by Oklahoma City, which is a hell of a team.
03:19So, you know, they got a lot further than anybody thought.
03:23All the teams that you mentioned lost before the finals.
03:27But, you know, I remember – I'll go back to 1978 where Seattle lost to Washington
03:33and then came back the next year and beat Washington.
03:36So, it can happen.
03:38The experience can happen one year and you win the next.
03:40But as good as the Spurs are – and again, to me, you've got to get rid of Fox.
03:45You have too many young players who are disciplined, who play both ends of the court.
03:50You know, he's like James Harden.
03:53He doesn't play defense.
03:55He had terrible turnovers, terrible shot selection.
03:59Move him.
04:00He's got a huge contract.
04:01You know, I say pay him off.
04:04If you can't trade him, pay him off just the way John Wall was paid off
04:09and his career basically ended with that huge contract.
04:13You can't have him around infesting this environment that you've got such –
04:18Harper is a stud and a half.
04:21And why is he a stud?
04:23You know, his father is the opposite of Brunson's father.
04:27You know, he stays out of it.
04:29He doesn't get – you know, Derek Harper won five championships.
04:32I'm a huge fan of his.
04:34And look at his sons, both in the NBA, you know, and doing it.
04:38So they've got to use – you know, they've got to use it.
04:42Castle, love him.
04:43I don't know what happened in the last game.
04:45You know, didn't score until that one – won the follow-up at the end.
04:49I have no idea what happened with him.
04:53But, no, I'm a big fan of the team.
04:56And, you know, they've got to move forward.
04:58But, again, getting out of the West is not going to be easy.
