00:00The problem facing the government is that despite Labour's huge parliamentary majority,
00:04there is no majority in the Labour Party for serious welfare reductions.
00:10The Prime Minister failed to get even modest changes past his backbenchers,
00:15very modest changes that would have still left the benefits bill increasing.
00:19He couldn't get that past his backbenchers.
00:22So my party is going to work with any Labour leader in the national interest
00:27to cut the benefits bill to pay for defence.
00:32I have made an offer of working together repeatedly for well over a year,
00:37since February 2025, because I could see what needed to be done.
00:42Some things are too important for party politics.
00:46But if the Prime Minister won't accept my offer, I will make the same offer today to Andy Burnham.
