Could 'The Greek Freak' actually come to Boston?? Are the rumors HEATing Up? Could it be down to Miami or Boston? Let's hear from Bill Simmons!
What do you make of Jaylen Brown's cryptic tweet?
Transcript
00:00And Bill Simmons is a guy, one of the guys lately, who have been talking about Giannis and the Celtics
00:08and what that may mean for Jalen Brown.
00:11And so this is what Bill Simmons said on his podcast a day ago.
00:16I thought Boston was out of this. I know Boston was out of this. And I was wondering if they
00:22were playing possum or not.
00:23I think they were playing little possum. I think they ran on Giannis. So I'm not recanting what I said
00:28before.
00:29I don't really know the reasons for it. Maybe they felt like Miami's offer is an offer they could beat.
00:35Maybe they want to drive the price of Miami's offer up and they don't actually have interest in him.
00:39But as I said over and over again, Giannis is pushing for Miami or Boston.
00:43Those are the two locations and really wants to end up in Boston because it would have the best chance
00:48to win a title.
00:49And I think Boston is not ruling out the idea, is my intel. And in general, I'm prepared for anything
00:55of Boston now.
00:56I wonder if they're going to use this opportunity with the assets they have with the $27 million trade exception
01:02to completely change what this team looks like.
01:04So who knows? They might not do anything, but I thought they were sitting out this Giannis thing and I
01:09no longer think that.
01:11Okay. Meggo, you're the Celtics stan on this radio program. You and Wiggy.
01:17Jalen Brown tweeted yesterday a bit of a passive-aggressive tweet. Can you share that with us, please?
01:23Jalen Brown tweeted yesterday morning, the neighbor's rice always smells better.
01:30It's a foodie tweet.
01:31Yeah. The neighbor's rice always smells better.
01:34God, that's he annoying.
01:37He's clearly hearing the Giannis talk and it has upset him.
01:42I have a question. Did Jason Tatum tweet, the neighbor's rice always smells better when he went on Atlanta radio
01:47and said he would like to play there?
01:49What?
01:50When Jalen Brown was on radio in Atlanta.
01:52Did Jason Tatum go on Twitter and say, oh, why does the neighbor's rice always smell better?
01:57No.
01:58Okay.
01:58No.
02:00Jalen Brown was certainly willing to do that, to throw that out there.
02:05I just, is he ever going to be happy here if he is playing with Jason Tatum?
02:13I think he has been at times, but I think with Jalen, like, my perspective is what makes him the
02:21competitor that he is, is finding that chip on his shoulder to drive him to improve every season.
02:28But with that comes a certain restlessness.
02:31Right.
02:31Right.
02:31And I think that's just who he's always going to be.
02:33I don't, I don't, maybe I'm really naive.
02:36You can call me super naive.
02:38I don't think it's, it's necessarily a Boston thing, a JT versus JB thing.
02:43I think it's just, that is what makes Jalen improve himself is to be saying, Wiggy, like, I'm not satisfied
02:50with this.
02:51Right.
02:51And I don't get the respect or whatever that I deserve.
02:55And that's what powers him to go forward.
02:57Right.
02:57I look at it like this.
02:58I'm all in on the honest thing.
03:00I'm all in on it.
03:01Even if it means that Jalen Brown is a part of the deal.
03:04Yes, because it changes the look, it changes the look of your basketball team.
03:08But what I will say is I understand where Jalen Brown is coming from.
03:12And if I'm the Boston Celtics, then I have to move on from Jalen.
03:17Because the one thing that you're, you're doing as an organization is you're not showing Jalen Brown any respect or
03:26loyalty when you're constantly, constantly going, oh, we're shopping them.
03:33We're interested in Giannis.
03:35We're interested in KD.
03:36And the piece that we're willing to move on from is Jalen Brown.
03:40Wiggy, who had, when have they, when have they said that since Kevin Durant was available?
03:47Mega, we've been talking about it for the last three or four months.
03:49This is Bill Simmons saying that he's tapped in and he believes this.
03:53This is not Adam Hammelsbach from the Globe that somebody locally is intentionally leading to and saying, put this out
03:59there because we want them to know the exact trade package.
04:02They are moving in silence.
04:04There was a report during the season from one of the basketball people that we talked about where they were
04:11hearing that the Celtics were going to be interested in getting Giannis in the offseason.
04:18You remember we talked about that?
04:19Yeah.
04:20That's a basketball insider.
04:22I don't think you can sit there and say that the Celtics are treating Jalen disrespectfully in any way.
04:27How many people would have known about this Bill Simmons trade talk if not for the sticky rice tweet?
04:32Probably not those who listen to the podcast and nobody else.
04:36This is Jalen Brown being the victim, always having to be the victim, saying, I want out.
04:42And the guy drops her off and she says, why are you dropping me off?
04:44Why would you want to stay with your wife when she's out every weekend looking for something better?
04:48So then why is he unhappy about it?
04:51That's human nature.
04:52What are you talking about?
04:54Listen, if you were married to somebody.
04:56He said he wants to be the guy.
04:58And I get it.
04:59But if you, and that's what he says.
05:00No, no, yes or no.
05:01He said he would.
05:01Okay, is there another guy here?
05:03Do you like living in people's shadows?
05:05Because that's what.
05:06Right, you're making my point.
05:07He doesn't want to be in a shadow.
05:08No, no, and I'm not saying the reason why it all started, you went and you said, oh, I am
05:17choosing you.
05:18Right.
05:19And we all agree, right?
05:19Tatum's better?
05:20No, but I'm just saying Jalen's point.
05:24They went and said, we are choosing you.
05:26I am choosing you to be my wife.
05:29You are the one.
05:30Right.
05:30And then not even a year later, you go, hmm, I think I like this other one.
05:37And you go out and you draft another guy at this, basically the same position with the same overall pick
05:46in Jason Tatum.
05:47And then you have two guys here and you're like, all right, we told the first guy this, but now
05:51the second guy looks better.
05:54He's more attractive.
05:54Right, and in your analogy, Jalen Brown does not want to be a part of a thruple.
06:00No, especially when he's in the thruple and he's basically the kickstander.
06:08Okay, I'm working this out visually.
06:09He's the side dude in the thruple.
06:12There's the main dude and then the side dude.
06:14All right, so would you.
06:15It's like, go pick us up some bagels.
06:21So you would do this deal, though.
06:22I would because do you think it helps the organization when we know how competitive and we know how sensitive
06:31Jalen Brown is?
06:33Do you think it helps the organization if they don't now do this deal and he knows at every point
06:38they're trying to move me?
06:39There's a lot of Celtics fans, I think, who don't want to move off from Jalen Brown because you –
06:45and you're one of them.
06:46I am.
06:47Are you guys – do you guys want him to move off of Jalen Brown?
06:53There's a very loud proponent for trading Jalen Brown at the front.
06:59It's not just Jalen Brown.
06:59Would you trade Jalen Brown for Giannis?
07:03No, I think.
07:04I feel like we're in Parliament.
07:05Yeah, no.
07:07Somebody's going to start banging a cane.
07:09Right.
07:09See, there's two different things to this, right?
07:12What makes your basketball team better, keeping Jalen Brown or getting Giannis?
07:19Keeping Jalen Brown, I think, and moving other pieces.
07:23Okay.
07:23So I would disagree with you on that part because it's two.
07:27You already know Jalen is very disappointed or he feels a certain way because of the whispers of him always.
07:37And now you know him going into the season, he's not now taking a backseat for Jason Tatum.
07:43So you're going to have two guys that are alphas and they're going to have to split that basketball in
07:48half.
07:49And your team has no inside presence.
07:51Where Giannis gives you an inside presence, he probably doesn't – he definitely doesn't come with, oh, the baggage of
07:59they're disrespecting me.
08:02He's somebody who wants to be here.
08:04Yes.
08:04He loves Joe Missoula.
08:05You're not so sure.
08:06You don't think Giannis comes with baggage?
08:08He comes with half his family here on set.
08:10So what, though?
08:11I mean, so what?
08:12You wouldn't – his brothers are going to be sitting out at the – name me the two players on
08:17the end of the bench that are holding it down right now.
08:19What are their names?
08:21Exactly.
08:22They're a long answer to pronounce.
08:22So, hey, listen, if that wants to be Giannis' brother, it's fine with me because they're never going to sniff
08:28a game.
08:28Excuse me.
08:29Speaking of holding down the bench, what did a gentleman from Stowe, Massachusetts, tell you last night when you met
08:39him?
08:40He said – and I was like, wow, how much did you pay this guy?
08:44He said you were actually a pretty good basketball player.
08:48Yes.
08:49Thank you very much.
08:50Yeah.
08:50John Tarnooser.
08:51Sammy, you were a stodder in high school, he said.
08:54Yes, he did.
08:54I saw you get his Venmo.
08:56Yes, he did.
08:56Yes, he did.
08:57Go ahead.
08:58Yeah, I got to get Eddie on this.
09:00Eddie, good morning.
09:02Hey, good morning, guys.
09:03How are you?
09:04What's up?
09:05I am a Jalen Brown fan, and I think he's just reached the point where he keeps hearing this talk,
09:12keeps hearing this talk.
09:13He says, you know what?
09:14I'm going to make a decision for you.
09:15He put his house up for sale.
09:17We've seen the loss of Jalen Brown.
09:19That's not his house.
09:20He hasn't lived there in years, respectfully.
09:23Okay, well, I'll give you that.
09:26So defensive.
09:26I'm just correcting the facts here.
09:29That's his butlers.
09:30You love Jalen Brown.
09:31Yeah.
09:32Eddie, so you'd make the trade.
09:36I'd make the trade, and I think it would be best for the team, and I think it'd be best
09:40for Brown.
09:41I love Brown.
09:42I wouldn't want to get rid of him.
09:43I think this guy shows up, and he comes to play every single game.
09:47I guess the problem is Tatum.
09:49Yeah.
09:50All right.
09:50Thank you, Eddie.
09:51If you guys had to ask, and you had to guess right now, does Brad Stevens want to have Jalen
09:55Brown on the team next year?
09:57Yes.
09:58No chance.
09:59No.
10:00Come on, Vago.
10:01I can't wait until you get to the, they said it, because it tells you exactly how the Celtics feel
10:08about people that are on this basketball team.
10:12Okay.
