00:00During the commercial break, Mike Marr came in here, and he's like,
00:03Hey, guys, can you send out the bat signal?
00:07I need your help.
00:08He wants tickets to go see the Defenders in what are they calling the bowl?
00:13It's called the...
00:13The UFL Bowl.
00:14UFL Championship.
00:16It's Defenders versus the Louisville Kings.
00:18Is it actually sold out?
00:21It's not sold out, but the get-in price is anywhere from $50 to $70,
00:26and then lower bowl, good seats are a couple hundred.
00:28Yeah, you're looking to not pay that if possible.
00:32You know who's your guy?
00:32Isn't Tailgate Ted, like a regular over there?
00:35I think it's called the United Bowl.
00:37I know Defenders are going belt to ass.
00:39It should be the belt to ass bowl.
00:40Well, remember we talked to Marr yesterday about he was conflicted
00:45because he had to go to Charlotte for his buddy's engagement party.
00:52Yes.
00:53Not a bachelor party, not a wedding, an engagement party.
00:56Right.
00:56Charlotte, 14 hours round trip.
00:58It's a long haul.
00:59Long haul.
01:00Lots of gas, lots of miles on the car.
01:02Yeah.
01:02He didn't really want to go.
01:04He wanted to stay here and go to the United Cup or whatever it's called.
01:07It's a lot of smelling salts on that drive.
01:09United Bowl.
01:10United Bowl, and he wanted to go to UFC on Sunday.
01:12Let's remember the boys are going out tonight.
01:14He wants to go hang out tonight.
01:15They're going to hang out and want to watch the Team USA.
01:18Yeah.
01:18Right.
01:18Well, he's not going to UFC at the White House.
01:21That thing is exclusive.
01:22Oh, but he wants to, I guess he just wants to be watching.
01:24He wants to go to a bar downtown.
01:26Aren't they having, did you say they're having a big screen out in the mall or something?
01:29Yep.
01:29The whole National Mall is going to be shut down and it's called like the Ellipse, the
01:33UFC 250 Freedom Ellipse.
01:34And that's just going to be a bunch of jumbotrons and screens and fan engagement and stuff all
01:40during the day Sunday.
01:41And then it leads into the watch party out in the mall.
01:44So we convinced Mike not to go to Charlotte and he told his buddy and his buddy understood.
01:50So it's good.
01:50So he's going to be here, but he wants to go to the United Bowl.
01:52In the words of Leonardo DiCaprio and Wolf of Wall Street, I'm not leaving.
01:57I'm not leaving.
01:58It's a good bit.
02:00So if anybody's got to connect, it's one of those few connects that we don't necessarily
02:04have.
02:05Yeah.
02:05I don't think we have to connect to the Nationals.
02:07Yeah.
02:07Yeah.
02:08We've got connects to Wizards and Caps.
02:11Hey, Mike, do you have a boy that you want to go with?
02:14Or...
02:14Yeah.
02:15I have two friends that really want to go as well.
02:17One of my roommates.
02:18So you have three.
02:19You need three total.
02:20And I'd be forever grateful to anyone.
02:22We did meet the lady from DC United maybe two seasons ago.
02:26I don't remember.
02:27I remember.
02:28Oh, she popped in for a second.
02:29She...
02:30Yeah.
02:31I don't even remember if she gave us any.
02:32That's a tough ask.
02:33Like a person you met once.
02:35Yeah.
02:35Like two plus years ago.
02:36Then all of a sudden you're digging her up for tickets.
02:40Also, I might have her name in my phone, but I don't remember.
02:44I don't remember who it is.
02:44Well, there's no chance you would ask a person you met once.
02:47No.
02:47No, no, no, no.
02:48No chance.
02:49Come on.
02:49You have Cuth.
02:50You met her one time for...
02:51I'm just saying that we don't really have a connect.
02:53That's the closest thing that we have.
02:55We know lots of people.
02:56If Mike really wants to ask someone, we don't need to ask someone in your phone that you
03:00met once two years ago.
03:01I know, but he's been asking for days.
03:03And that's the best I can come up with.
03:05I've told him I don't really have a connect.
03:07The Tailgate-Ted Hookup, he's on his way to the World Cup.
03:10Ted knows everybody.
03:11That guy knows everybody.
03:11Yeah, but he's flying to the World Cup.
03:12Oh, he's on a plane right now?
03:13The last thing he cares about is Mike Marr getting into the Defenders game.
03:18He's going to LA.
03:20Yeah, seems like it.
03:21I don't think I've ever seen somebody hornier for pickleball than Tailgate-Ted.
03:25He does love him some pickleball.
03:26And he loves cooking meat out of his van with the flames on the side.
03:32Yeah.
03:32He does love to do that.
03:33He just likes going to games.
03:35He loves events.
03:36And he loves pickling.
03:38Loves him some pickling.
03:39I know.
03:39I know.
03:39I know he loves it.
03:41All right, so Mike, something will happen.
03:43We'll figure it out.
03:44Well, thank you, guys.
03:451-800-636-1067 if you want to bring Mike to the game.
03:48Would you go with the random junkies listener?
03:50I'm really going to figure it out.
03:51I'll be honest.
03:53That was the extent of us figuring it out.
03:54Somebody may figure it out.
03:55I said we.
03:56I basically meant people behind the glass.
03:57Guys behind the glass.
03:58I understand.
03:59He'll figure it out.
03:59But he will be the Prince of Hyde tonight.
04:02Yeah, so 100%.
04:04He'll be just spreading tips around to all the bartenders.
04:08I mean, that's the ultimate home game for me.
04:09I think we'll get into it later in the show, kind of preview of Draven Valdez,
04:12but that is a massive home game for me.
04:14Do you tip the bartenders in zins and smelling salts,
04:17or do you use actual U.S. currency?
04:18I will take care of them.
04:19They get taken care of outside as just zins.
04:21Well done.
04:23Cakes, you are a big DeBonsa guy.
04:25100% A.J. DeBonsa.
04:28Would you like to hear what he said?
04:29He was a correspondent for the NBA game four.
04:32I saw that.
04:33The video that I saw, he was just screaming, oh, my God.
04:36He couldn't believe it.
04:37Oh, my God.
04:37He also had a video where he's standing next to Shaq,
04:42and he says to the camera, I'll dunk on him.
04:45And Shaq's standing there, and it was a little bit disrespectful.
04:48And then I think he was kidding.
04:50He's having fun.
04:50And he looks at him, and he goes, oh, my God.
04:53I'll dunk on you.
04:54And Shaq goes, no, I've been dunked on three times in 19 years.
04:57You ain't dunking on me.
04:59Oh, my God.
04:59But then Shaq is very nice to him and said, I respect what you're doing.
05:01I'm looking out for you, whatever.
05:03You know, good luck to you, brother, whatever.
05:04But it was a – I think he's starting to be funny.
05:07Yeah.
05:07But he's very – he's a confident young man.
05:10Cocky, yeah.
05:10He's a confident young man.
05:11Definitely has some charisma.
05:13Here's A.J. DeBonta on if he gets drafted by the Wizards.
05:17Yo, I – yo.
05:18What?
05:19What?
05:20Yo, I – yo.
05:21What?
05:21What?
05:22If I go to D.C. and make the playoffs?
05:24If we go to D.C.
05:24Y'all got to make it.
05:26I'll make sure I make it.
05:27Y'all?
05:27You got to make it.
05:28Y'all are getting to know.
05:30It's not going to be enough, dude.
05:32You're telling me how to run the league when you hit the second-west record.
05:35Oh, that's because we have no big game.
05:40A lot of people were interpreting that locally as a shot against Derrick Queen.
05:47Kind of bold for a guy to say that.
05:49So here's the thing about making the playoffs.
05:51I could see them making the playoffs.
05:54Very dependent on is Anthony Davis playing?
05:57Is Trey Young going to be there the whole season?
05:59I think Trey Young will be.
06:01Anthony Davis, big question mark.
06:03That's a jump ball.
06:04That's a 50-50 on Anthony Davis.
06:07By the way, I can't believe how confident I was that Anthony Davis was going to really
06:11give it a run with the Wizards.
06:12He was actually going to play in a Wizards uniform.
06:16Now, I'm going to be surprised if he ever shoots up for the Wizards.
06:19I think he's going to play.
06:20All right, so let me just go through your playoff teams last season because even the
06:25play-in teams were above .500.
06:27So if you look at the Eastern Conference, the top four teams were Detroit, Boston, the
06:33Knicks, who were in the NBA Finals, the Cavs, I would just take those four teams off the
06:39board.
06:39They all had over 50 wins.
06:41Right.
06:41All right, the Raptors.
06:43Could they get to number five, which was the Raptors?
06:46How would you compare their depth chart if you put DeBonson in the lineup with Trey Young,
06:51Anthony Davis, Saar?
06:53Or, let's say, Keyshawn George, guys like Will Riley coming off the bench.
06:57I actually like the Wizards lineup over what the Raptors have.
07:02They're led by Scotty Barnes and Brandon Ingram, R.J. Barrett.
07:07Yeah, but they had 46 wins.
07:08That's pretty good.
07:09I mean, is this Wizards team with Anthony Davis, can they win 46?
07:14That would be on the high side, I would think.
07:16I think it would be really high.
07:17But I think their roster, just man for man, would be comparable to a team like that.
07:22The Hawks were the sixth seed, 46 and 36.
07:26All right?
07:27They're led by, well, C.J. McCollum made a run for them, but they're led by Jalen Johnson.
07:33Jalen Johnson's come on.
07:35Yes.
07:35The rest of their lineup, I mean, I get it.
07:40They were there, but it's not an overwhelming lineup.
07:43Yeah, but you're basing it off names, but they might be, as a team, they might play really, really well.
07:49I recognize that.
07:50What I think the bigger story is, in my opinion, is A.J.'s going around assuming he's going to be
07:56the Wizards' top pick.
07:58There's a lot of clips now of him, and it's almost like Valdez and I were talking about during the
08:05break, even with Drab,
08:06that he's trying to almost voice this into existence.
08:09He's trying to speak this into existence.
08:10Well, he's got that cockiness.
08:11He's manifesting it.
08:12I feel like he's trying to manifest it.
08:13He's always been number one wherever he's gone.
08:16But he's like, yeah, if I go to the Wizards, he said afterwards, his clips have now gone viral,
08:21that when they got the pick, that John Wall looked right at me.
08:26Remember, John Wall wants to pick Darren Peterson.
08:28Yeah.
08:29I did find that one curious.
08:30He's misinterpreting some of this stuff, and I think it's good.
08:33Listen, I like the kid.
08:34There's nothing about him I don't like.
08:35But if you were in his shoes, and most of the mock drafts have you going number one,
08:40and you feel like you're the best player, and you're the college basketball leading scorer.
08:44But remember, the number one team that has a number one pick, and this is what I've been
08:48screaming from the mountaintops from the moment they got it.
08:51They're screaming there's no obvious one.
08:53Even though everyone else thinks the obvious one is AJ, the mere fact that they're saying
08:59there's no obvious one means he's not necessarily their guy.
09:03They've been saying it from day one.
09:06Yeah.
09:06And AJ's assuming it.
09:08But he could be their number one.
09:10He could be.
09:11Yeah.
09:11He could be.
09:12And who knows who they're talking to?
09:14I mean, we don't know.
09:15We have no idea.
09:16We have no idea.
09:17Obviously.
09:18They're making it quiet.
09:19But I'm just saying, the mere fact that they've said instantly, guys, put the brakes on it.
09:25We're open for business.
09:26There's no obvious one in this year's draft.
09:28And yet the rest of the world is assuming there is an obvious one, and it's AJ, including
09:32AJ himself.
09:34I'm telling you, there's a disconnect.
09:36It's not like last year.
09:37There was no question Cooper Flagg was going number one.
09:40Right.
09:40It's not a Zion year.
09:42It's not a Wemby year.
09:43It's a different year.
09:44And I'm not saying AJ's bad.
09:46AJ's probably going to be a great player.
09:48But he is kind of assuming publicly that he's the one, which I also think is funny, because
09:55people read into his sort of dead reaction in the moment, and they're like, oh, he doesn't
10:01want to come here.
10:02He wants to go to Utah.
10:03He's disappointed.
10:04Other clips have shown he's not disappointed at all.
10:06He's thoroughly engaged and excited.
10:09He wants to be the number one overall pick.
10:10He wants to be number one overall.
10:12And he might want Utah badly.
10:13He might like Utah.
10:14Is there for two years?
10:16I'm not saying he doesn't like Utah.
10:17He was born and raised in Utah.
10:18Yeah, but I'm not saying he doesn't like that.
10:19Did he bounce around high school to high school?
10:21He's a massive little business guy.
10:23He's from Boston.
10:23I just think there are huge narratives being built that are just wrong all over the place.
10:30They're wrong all over the place.
10:31Hey, if AJ says, if the Wizards draft me, we're going to make the playoffs.
10:36If they don't make the playoffs, is the season a failure?
10:38Yes.
10:39I guess.
10:40Well, I think if they don't make the playoffs next year, it will be a failure.
10:42Ten teams make the playoffs.
10:43It's kind of ammunition.
10:47I don't know if I would try and guarantee that.
10:49It's ammunition to kind of bash you.
10:52If you're saying you're going to make the playoffs, if they draft you, you don't.
10:55I like that athletic cockiness.
10:58That athletic arrogance.
10:59I like that about him.
11:00But they would have had to make the playoffs with 43 wins this year.
11:03That's a huge jump.
11:04I think they could get to 37 to 40, but 43.
11:07It is a big jump, but remember, they were actively trying to lose games.
11:10That's true.
11:11They were self-saboteurs throughout the season.
11:14What would they have won if they really tried to win?
11:16Yeah.
11:1625?
11:18Yeah, maybe.
11:18Maybe seven or eight more games?
11:19I don't know.
11:20And a lot depends on if Davis is going to be on the floor.
11:23You're saying it doesn't look good if you say, if you draft me, we're going to make the playoffs.
11:27They draft him, and you don't make the playoffs.
11:28Right.
11:29It doesn't happen.
11:29It doesn't look good.
11:30I do think that narrative, though, that he wants to play in Utah was so overblown.
11:35They overplayed that.
11:35So the kid played high school basketball in Massachusetts.
11:40Then he played high school basketball in California.
11:43Then he played high school basketball in Utah.
11:46And then he played one year of college basketball in Utah.
11:50He's a nomad.
11:51Well, I mean, a lot of top guys are like that, too.
11:54It's not just AJ to bounce up.
11:55I know, but I'm saying that the narrative that he has to play in Utah, he's a basketball mercenary.
12:05There's never been one person that has begged to play for the Utah Jazz before they were ever drafted?
12:13Can you name one?
12:15Has there been one guy that before the draft started said, man, I'm really hoping the Utah Jazz draft me.
12:21Maybe Jimmer?
12:21I can't wait for the Utah Jazz to draft me.
12:23Don't think of anybody.
12:24It's never happened.
12:24I don't think it's ever happened in the history of the world.
12:27Can I give you this?
12:28We don't have a lot of time, but I don't know when I can get it in.
12:31So I listened to the Locked On Jazz podcast yesterday, okay?
12:38And this guy, I think he's the guy that created all the Locked On stuff, okay?
12:43All the different Locked On shows.
12:45I don't know if you're familiar with them.
12:46And who's he locked on?
12:47So, well, he's gone through, like everybody else, he's looked at all.
12:52He's given best case scenarios for everybody.
12:55He's given, like, who's going to be good two years.
12:58They do every scenario, right, trying to break it down.
13:00Same thing Strober and his boys are doing.
13:02So yesterday on his pod, they did worst case scenarios for the top three guys.
13:08And you could even throw Wilson in there, but just throw it out,
13:11because I don't think anybody thinks Wilson's potentially going to be one.
13:15And what I found interesting was, so for AJ,
13:20and I don't think anybody thinks he's necessarily going to be bad,
13:22but the comp that this guy could come up with,
13:25and what he's using is top five draft picks with similar attributes, size,
13:31you know, reach, shooting, non-shooter, whatever.
13:36The guys they comped to bond to to, worst case, is like Jonathan Isaac,
13:42R.J. Barrett.
13:43He didn't mention, but we've heard Wiggins before.
13:46But, like, guys that need the ball in their hands,
13:50don't really necessarily make their teammates better around them.
13:53It could be maybe good players on a bad team.
13:55Like, that's maybe the worst case scenario.
13:58He's still going to be a player.
13:59He's going to get buckets.
14:00But is he going to make the team better,
14:02or is he just going to be a good player on a bad team?
14:06Cam Boozer, who some people say the analytics say could be the best,
14:10their worst case scenario is, if you look at top five picks,
14:13and, by the way, there have been so many top five duds slash busts,
14:17that it's shocking.
14:18Oh, yeah.
14:18We just talked about that yesterday.
14:20And a lot of them have similar attributes, by the way, to Cam Boozer.
14:22Not the most athletic guys in the world.
14:24A lot of them come from Duke.
14:26A lot of them like Jabari Parker, Jahlil Okafor,
14:30big guys that could shoot,
14:33but not necessarily beat you off the dribble,
14:36or super creative, or, you know, super athletic.
14:39Not the most athletic players, yes.
14:40You know who he had a very difficult time
14:44coming up with a worst case scenario for?
14:47Was the prototype 6'5 guard that shoots it in the top five.
14:53Very hard to come up with busts that are 6'5 guards,
14:57drafted high, that are great shooters.
15:00So who was the bust that he came up with?
15:02He didn't even come up with one.
15:04He came up with guys like Chris Dunn.
15:07There were some other guys, but they weren't shooters.
15:08They didn't shoot.
15:09He came up with a couple other guards.
15:11I can't remember who he mentioned.
15:14You've all heard the names before, though.
15:16But Evan Turner, like 6'5", highly drafted guys,
15:22super athletic.
15:23Johnny Davis.
15:23They can't shoot.
15:25Johnny Davis.
15:26He was making the argument.
15:29Peterson, he just couldn't come up with a worst case guy.
15:31But he's a can't-misser.
15:33More of a can't-misser than the other two.
15:35Did he have him going one?
15:38I don't know that.
15:39I don't know that.
15:39Yeah, yeah.
15:40All right, when we come back, we're going to give you-
15:42It's food for thought.
15:42We can talk about it more,
15:44and we're going to give listeners a chance to win $500.
15:47You can call in now, 1-800-636-1067.
