00:00Top news coming in at 3 p.m. India summons a top American diplomat.
00:04U.S. diplomat has been summoned over the attacks from the vessels as well.
00:07The heartbreaking tragedy, remember, where Indian sailors have lost their life.
00:12The U.S. envoy Jason Meeks has been summoned twice in two days.
00:17India has launched a protest over the attacks on the vessels.
00:20Just to give you a background, three Indian sailors lost their life in America's strikes on our vessels.
00:25The MEA has summoned Jason Meeks to lodge a protest against attacks on commercial vessels of the coast of Oman.
00:34Yet another vessel with 20 Indian crew on board came under attack.
00:38The U.S. envoy, therefore, was called in by the additional secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs.
00:43The second time the U.S. mission has been summoned by the MEA.
00:46Three Indian seafarers, remember, initially reported missing, have been confirmed dead in one of the attacks.
00:52The MEA has summoned, therefore, to lodge that protest.
00:56And remember, there was absolutely no reason for the vessel to come under attack,
01:00in which the Indian sailors have lost their life.
01:02Visual on the screen of the U.S. diplomat who has arrived.
01:06He was called in by the MEA.
01:09Now, this is the second time that he has been called.
01:11Anisha Mathur joins me.
01:14For the latest, also, Shivani Sharma is joining me.
01:16Shivani, while this may be considered protocol as much, how do you also think this is also India lodging protest?
01:24And to what extent we are going to take this ahead?
01:27This is a strong protest that India has lodged with the United States because this is the second summon in
01:32two days where Jason Meeks has been called.
01:35He was not only called, he was summoned and the meeting ended for more than 40 minutes.
01:39He was also handed over a protest note from the Indian side.
01:43He was demarched.
01:44So that means that India has strongly protested over these two incidents.
01:49In fact, the three incidents that happened.
01:51And in three incidents, more than 65 Indian seafarers have been rescued.
01:55Three lost their lives.
01:56And yesterday, also, in the inter-ministerial briefing, Randhir Jaiswal, the spokesperson of the MEA, had strongly said that India
02:04is calling out to the United States for this particular attack.
02:07And we ensure the safety of all the other vessels.
02:10They have to just follow the directions and guidelines in that whole region.
02:15Fresh guidelines have also been issued.
02:17But certainly a very strong protest that has now been issued by India over the attacks of these merchant vessels
02:23by the United States.
02:24Shivani, just take us through the incident, the tragedy and how it has received a lot of backlash.
02:28Because there was absolutely no reason for firing by the American forces on our vessel.
02:33So, what are your defense sources saying?
02:35How and how is India likely to escalate this further?
02:39Especially when it comes to politically.
02:41Pooja, when we talk about these three attacks, all these three were not Indian flagged vessels.
02:46But Indian seafarers were there on them.
02:49So, U.S. Navy attacked these vessels.
02:52Two of them were sanctioned vessels.
02:54They were prohibited to be in that particular region.
02:57But United States attacked them.
03:00And further, United States also gave out a video of these attacks.
03:04And he said that these vessels were going to ferry oil from Iran.
03:08So, that was the logic or justification that it was giving.
03:11But India has said that it has been strongly condemning these acts since the initial conflict had started in end
03:19of February.
03:20And since then, Pooja, dozens of these merchant vessels have been attacked.
03:25Many seafarers have lost their life.
03:27But these three incidents, the set bellow, empty set bellow that was attacked, on which 24 Indians were there.
03:3321 were rescued.
03:35Three lost their lives.
03:36The bodies are awaited in India.
03:37Mortal remains are coming to India.
03:40And the MEA has said that it has strongly condemned these attacks.
03:44It's taking the matter diplomatically with the United States.
03:47And that is what we are also seeing now in these summons that are happening.
03:51Terrible tragedy, though, for the survivors.
03:54For the kin of those who have died.
03:56The one who will have to now live with the tragedy as well.
04:00Especially, remember the Sharma family initially said the son was missing, then confirmed.
04:05Dead.
04:05Appreciate you joining us.
04:07Shivani for the latest on that.
04:08We have one.
04:08We have one.
