Andy and Randy are back in the saddle after a historic night in the NBA that saw the New York Knicks erase the biggest deficit ever in NBA Finals history. Was it more a credit to the Knicks or a knock on the Spurs? The guys break that down and react to all the craziness.

00:00The San Antonio Spurs blew the biggest lead in NBA Finals history,
00:05and the New York Knicks are one win away from an NBA champion.
00:09Andy, I watched that whole game, man, and I'm sitting here like,
00:12they can't miss.
00:13And I'm talking to Samson on FaceTime because they're still over in the Philippines.
00:17So he's like, that was on.
00:18I'm like, they can't miss.
00:19They can't miss.
00:20They can't freaking miss.
00:21They played 24 minutes of perfect basketball.
00:23They can't miss.
00:24So halftime comes, and I'm like, I'm not going to go to bed.
00:27I'm like, I'm up.
00:27I got to get a little nap when I got home yesterday.
00:29Plus Wu-Tang.
00:30And Wu-Tang.
00:31So I'm like, I'm cool.
00:32And so I'm sitting there watching it.
00:33And the first three minutes of the third quarter, I was like, oh, my damn.
00:39They're about to lose this game.
00:41At the very least, I felt like it was going to end up being close.
00:45Yes.
00:45It was like, oh, wow.
00:47I said, they're going to lose this game.
00:49I didn't think they were actually going to lose.
00:51Honestly, I didn't think they were actually going to lose until De'Aaron Fox
00:56got the exact shot that he wanted.
00:58I don't know how much time was left.
00:59Maybe seven minutes left, six minutes left.
01:01Because when they get into the fourth quarter up 15, and they finally, miraculously,
01:07for whatever reason, only did it for a second, but finally started throwing the ball down
01:10low to Wemby.
01:11Let's just throw a bunch of lobs to Wemby.
01:12They can't stop it.
01:13The only thing they can do is foul.
01:15And they did it for three minutes and extended the lead.
01:17Yep.
01:18They were up 15 at the beginning of the fourth quarter, and then they were up 16 with nine
01:21minutes left, and then stopped doing it for whatever reason.
01:24But when they went away from that, and then De'Aaron Fox got exactly what he wanted, that
01:28little turnaround 15-footer from the free-throw line, and missed it wildly.
01:33I was like, oh, they're going to actually lose this game.
01:36Yeah, man.
01:36They're going to lose this game.
01:36And you're up by that, and then I'll just say exactly what happened.
01:40They went young player ball.
01:43Yeah.
01:43Just started throwing up threes with double digits.
01:46I'm like, you're still up.
01:47There's no reason to just throw up threes the whole time, and then they got cold.
01:52As hot as they were in the first half, they were just as cold.
01:56And I just thought, poor Mitch.
01:59What's his name?
01:59Mitch Johnson.
02:00Poor Mitch Johnson.
02:01He was as rattled as anybody.
02:03Yes, and you saw that late in the game when they were trying to do the inbound and didn't
02:08know what to do.
02:09And you're like, oh, my damn.
02:11Then you saw the turnovers at the top of the key, miscommunications, just like throwing
02:15the ball away.
02:16And give the Knicks credit, man.
02:18They deserve it.
02:19Their team, this is a team of destiny.
02:20And I like this team because they are in that foxhole.
02:25They got a foxhole mentality about them.
02:27They don't give up.
02:29They fight.
02:30But as bad as Carl Anthony Towns, it wasn't as far as foul trouble and everything like
02:35that.
02:36The foul trouble.
02:37The foul trouble meaning that he was able to overcome that.
02:42Right, right, right.
02:43He kind of did some dumb Minnesota-era Carl Anthony Towns.
02:47The dumb foul against Darren Foxy at the first one.
02:49He's dumbass.
02:50The one where he pushed, who did he push in the back?
02:53I don't remember, but I was like, what is he doing?
02:55What is he doing?
02:55He's regressing.
02:56I had to spend the whole playoffs talking about how he's turned into this smart, cerebral
02:59player.
03:00And now he's playing like old Carl Anthony Towns.
03:02But it looks like, because he was not into the game.
03:05He wasn't into the play.
03:06Tried to put him back in and all those different things, but you're just worried about him
03:09catching that foul.
03:10But I mean, Coach Mike, he went 14 players deep.
03:15He played a third center because they just didn't have nothing.
03:17They played a third center so that guy could go in there and kick Wemby in the shins.
03:20Third center, man.
03:21Which I loved.
03:22I loved.
03:22I don't know if they, what do they call it, they were going to get revenge.
03:26I don't know that they did that.
03:27But they were physical with him.
03:29Yeah.
03:29He was ready for it the first half.
03:30He was ready.
03:31He was ready for it the first half.
03:33But the fact that they didn't get him any rest when you're up 20 and you're up 70, they
03:38tried to.
03:39He was out for 58 seconds.
03:40Get him some damn rest.
03:42You're still up big enough that if you get him back in there and he's rested, you have
03:47an opportunity.
03:47Because even it affected his defense.
03:50Oh, yeah.
03:51Now he was gassed.
03:52He was gassed.
03:53He was totally gassed.
03:53But then, you know, here comes Mr. Clutch, Jalen Brunson.
03:56And you know, when he gets in that clutch mode, everything he throws up is going in and
04:01it was just wet.
04:02And he was getting to his spot.
04:04Except for that last one.
04:05Except for that last one.
04:06Which missed perfectly.
04:06And somehow.
04:07They didn't guard the out-of-bounds guy, which was OG.
04:10And OG's like, OG, he saw the double team, but he was like, I know that Jalen's probably
04:16not going to throw me this ball.
04:17No.
04:17He's going to shoot it.
04:18Let me crash.
04:18He's going to shoot it.
04:19Let me crash.
04:20And the ball came off perfect.
04:22And just the way he tipped it in, this unbelievable finish.
04:26That was a collapse, though.
04:28But you get, like, you can't, if you're the Knicks, of course, obviously you give kudos
04:31and everything to Knicks.
04:32But they couldn't do that without the collapse of the Spurs.
04:34Yeah, that's right.
04:35I mean, however you want to slice it.
04:37I mean, people will want to say, just blame the choke.
04:40Or I guess probably people in New York will want to say, don't give the Spurs that luxury.
04:45Give us the credit.
04:47And of course, both.
04:48Like, you can't come back down 30 in an NBA Finals game without the other team allowing
04:53you to.
04:54You can't have a team come back from 30 down on you unless you collapse.
04:58Yeah.
04:59And it was top to bottom.
05:01Like, that's the thing.
05:02One thing we're very familiar with talking about here on this show is our team's collapsing.
05:07And another thing, ain't no reason for Atlanta to be catching straights, all right?
05:11Yeah.
05:11There's no reason for Atlanta to be catching straights because of this, all right?
05:15Okay.
05:15Okay?
05:16All right?
05:17Okay.
05:18But as we know, in order for a loss like that to take place, a lot of stuff has to
05:23happen.
05:23Yes.
05:24And it's coaching and a coach who's never been there before and really looked like it.
05:29Just look confused.
05:30Like, when you, it reminded me of Sark.
05:32You know when Sark's in a big spot in the fourth quarter and he's staring at that sheet?
05:35And he was staring at that little sheet, too.
05:38The answer's not on there, bud.
05:40The answer's not on there, bud.
05:41You made the sheet.
05:43Were he looking at the Halo board?
05:44Yeah.
05:46When you see a coach looking for answers, you wrote the sheet, man.
05:50Those are your notes.
05:51Yeah.
05:51If it's not on there, it's not on there.
05:53It's not going to appear.
05:54He just reminded me so much of those guys in that moment.
05:56Yeah, man.
05:57But it also doesn't surprise me.
05:58And we talked, I mean, I'm surprised they blew a 30-point lead.
06:00Like, that's rare.
06:02But I'm not surprised that this series has come down to big fourth quarter moments
06:06and the Knicks are bigger in those moments than the Spurs are.
06:09The Spurs are a bunch of 21-year-olds who've never been there before.
06:12Yeah.
06:12And they play like it.
06:13Who are, yeah, because they are.
06:14Yeah.
06:15That's what they are.
06:15And they're coached by a guy who's never been there before.
06:17And that's the difference in the series.
06:20Andy.
06:20Obviously, yesterday is a 30-point thing.
06:21And that's what we'll talk about today.
06:24But the series has come down to one and two plays in the final two minutes of all four
06:29of the games.
06:29Yes.
06:30And the Spurs made them once.
06:32Yep.
06:32And they won the game.
06:33And they won the game.
06:34And they haven't done it three times.
06:35And again, yesterday was a lot more than just that.
06:37But eventually, it came down to that.
06:38And they still had a chance to win it.
06:40If De'Aaron Fox doesn't just panic.
06:42And there it is.
06:42If he doesn't just panic.
06:44The one guy we kept saying.
06:45Yeah.
06:45The clutch player.
06:46The veteran player.
06:47I'm not calling him that anymore.
06:48The veteran player.
06:49You get a break.
06:50Yeah.
06:51And you're...
06:52What are you doing?
06:53What are you doing?
06:54What are you doing?
06:55You have the most experience on this team.
06:57That bucket was not going to help you.
06:59Yeah.
06:59You would have been up three.
07:00And then they would have got the ball back.
07:01Yes.
07:01Like, you have to draw the foul, obviously.
07:05Then you can catch your breath a little bit.
07:07Plus, also, I mean, maybe he didn't want to go to the free-throw line.
07:09Maybe.
07:09I don't know.
07:09I don't know, but you got to...
07:11He didn't seem to want it.
07:11Did he not know...
07:12How did you not know he was coming?
07:15When you're in the open dribble like that, you look over your shoulder.
07:17Where's the guy?
07:18Yeah, he did.
07:18He said he thought he could outrun him.
07:19Why?
07:20But even...
07:20That's not a good answer either.
07:21That's not.
07:22Because he said, I wanted to go up three, so they had to make a three to beat us.
07:24Well, even if you outrun him and dribble around for a couple extra seconds,
07:28and you run more time off the clock, then you make the free-throws, and you're up three still.
07:32Yes.
07:32So up three would have happened either way, as long as he made the free-throws of the layup.
07:36Now, he didn't make either.
07:36OG Ananobi makes a crazy block, and then two minutes later, in real time, like nine seconds
07:42later in game time, makes the tip-in.
07:44He was so damn good yesterday.
07:45He is incredible.
07:47You said it yesterday.
07:48You were talking about yesterday.
07:49I was like, he's a damn good player, man.
07:50Yeah, man.
07:51He's a damn good player.
07:51He has been the Robin to the Batman all playoffs, and obviously Carl Anthony Towns has been
07:59really good the majority of the time, too, but OG Ananobi has been fantastic, and the
08:04fact that he was able to come back from that hamstring injury that kind of hampered him
08:07in the East Finals didn't obviously affect them, but for him to come back healthy and
08:11be this guy is so huge, and yeah, I don't know.
08:14I was thinking about that, because De'Aaron Fox did win the Clutch Player of the Year award
08:19a couple of years ago, and it just reminds me of like, there's a lot of people
08:21different types of clutch.
08:23Like, you know, you make a jumper when you're up two or down two or whatever when you're
08:29the Kings in March.
08:30That's fine.
08:31That's a little bit different than being in a one-point NBA Finals game.
08:34You know what I mean?
08:34Yes.
08:35Like, the regular season Clutch Player of the Year award is fine.
08:38They could give it out.
08:39I don't even know if there's such a thing as clutch moments in the NBA in the regular
08:42season.
08:42There's close games, but it's nothing like that.
08:45You're in Madison Square Garden collapsing.
08:48Yes.
08:48Like, you've given away a 30-point lead, but you still have a one-point lead.
08:52Yes.
08:52You still have a one-point lead.
08:53You're clinging.
08:53You're clinging to a one-point lead.
08:55And Brunson finally makes a mistake, and you get into the open court, and you just don't
09:00have your head where it needs to be at all.
09:04And it's a huge mistake, man.
09:05Or go up and dunk the damn ball.
09:07Yeah, and then get fouled.
09:08You know what I mean?
09:09Yeah, do something.
09:09Do something.
09:10But don't go up with that lazy ass.
09:12Wemm missed a couple free throws, too.
09:13Yes, he did.
09:14And if you're going to yip-yap the way he has, and I love the way he plays, you've got
09:18to
09:18make them free throws.
09:19You've got to make them free throws.
09:21But yeah, I mean, the Knicks were able to just sit in there and fight.
09:24The damn garden was going crazy last night.
09:26Yeah, it was.
09:26And, you know, the Spurs, if you get to go back home and all those things, you ain't
09:32got LeBron at his peak powers.
09:34No, they're not going to win.
09:36Yeah, you don't got that.
09:38No, they're not going to win the series.
09:38No, you don't got that.
09:39But they're going to win game five, though.
09:41Oh, yeah.
09:42So they can go winning games?
09:43Yeah.
09:44So you can go winning in the garden.
09:45I don't know who they're going to call in, if it's Tony Brothers, if it's Scott Foster.
09:48I don't know, man.
09:49The Spurs are going to win game five.
09:51What have the Knicks done all playoffs?
09:53No, I know.
09:53In the closeout games, they close.
09:56Trust me, I know.
09:56They close.
09:57All of the stuff that's happened in these playoffs tells you that they'll win this game and they'll
10:00win it by 20.
10:01Plus, you blow a game like that, mentally, you're probably fried.
10:04Yes.
10:05The NBA really wants this to go six.
10:07They want one more Madison Square Garden game.
10:09They're going to get all that you thought.
10:11I mean, they had all the celebrities in there last night.
10:12It'll be even more.
10:13You know?
10:14I don't know.
10:14Who's bigger than Taylor Swift?
10:16Put Beyonce down there on the court.
10:18I don't know.
10:19But, yeah, I don't know.
10:21Maybe I'll change my thoughts by the time the game time comes because, again, you lose a game
10:25like that.
10:25To me, that pretty much says.
10:26It's moralizing.
10:27You're toast.
10:28But, I don't know, man.
10:30They're going to win game five.
10:31I don't know.
10:32It almost feels like a...
10:32It feels like...
10:33I don't know.
10:34I don't either.
10:34I don't know, man.
10:35I don't either.
10:36I don't know.
10:36I thought the Knicks would win yesterday, but there's no way you told me they were to
10:40come back for 20 and I die.
10:41Like, I'm sitting there, and they're like, everything they were throwing...
10:43And another thing, Dylan Harper, man, when he's on, goodness gracious.
10:46He is.
10:47He also needs to be the guy with the ball in his hands in those moments.
10:50When he's on, he's on.
10:51He will be eventually.
10:52But I think the biggest...
10:53I mean, they had the play set up, and Cat tipped the ball.
10:57Yeah.
10:57Because he's going to catch that lob, and Steph Castle is going to...
11:00If Steph Castle could get that put back and get the and one, you know, it's just all
11:04those little things that the Knicks did, and the Knicks, those little plays that the Knicks
11:09made.
11:10Wasn't it Alvaro and...
11:12Jose Alvarado.
11:13Alvarado.
11:14And they said him and Bruston had played no minutes together.
11:17Yeah, man.
11:18He's playing crunch time minutes in the fourth quarter of a finals game.
11:21And hitting big shots.
11:22And hitting big shots.
11:24I mean, and from New York, obviously.
11:26I mean, Georgia Tech kids, there's a lot of people listening that are familiar with this
11:29game in college, but, like, I didn't see that coming.
11:32I mean, when they traded for him at the deadline, I was like, oh, that's cool.
11:35That's like a great energy guy off the bench, kind of an agitator, you know, him go out
11:38there and, you know, get after a player and make him annoyed.
11:42I didn't see him hitting clutch threes under four minutes in the fourth quarter of an NBA
11:47finals game.
11:48But it's crazy, but every time you're looking up and you see them shoot the ball, you're
11:52like, that's going in.
11:53Every time, oh, you shot the ball, it went in.
11:54Yeah, man.
11:55Every time.
11:56He was seven of nine from three.
11:58Every time.
11:58Every time he put it up, it went in.
12:00They might want to get a hand up on OG in the corner.
12:02Yeah, man.
12:02Like, I realize there's a lot to account for and all that, but you might want to guard
12:07OG.
12:07Now, I guess when you close out on him, he pump fakes you and then goes and dunks on
12:10people.
12:10Yeah.
12:10Yeah.
12:11Hell of a player.
12:12Crazy game.
12:13Just, like, one of the, obviously, one of the all-time moments that we've seen in the
12:17finals.
12:18It's been a great finals, and that was a great moment last night.
12:21And the Knicks are one game away, man.
12:23It's crazy.
12:24Crazy to think.
12:25Good for them.
12:26Yeah, man.
