00:00PKR's Sim 13 today said PAS need not secure 112 seats to form the next government,
00:07following concerns that apathy among Chinese voters could see the Islamic Party come to power.
00:12In a Facebook post, Sim said PAS only needed to win over the conservative voters.
00:18He said the likely scenario was that PAS, Perikatan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan would win 71 seats each,
00:25while Barca Nasional would secure 23 seats.
00:28He said that in the current political landscape, the contest is generally between two blocks of voters,
00:35the conservatives and the progressives.
00:38Sim, the Bayan Baru MP, said that in the general election to come,
00:42progressive votes would be split between PH, PN and third forces like Muda, Bersama and Warisan.
00:49He said conservative voters would generally continue to vote for PAS and would turn up rain or shine,
00:55adding that PAS could secure more than 71 seats at the next nationwide polls.
01:00Yesterday, former MCA President Dr. Chua Soylek said PAS could take power by default
01:06if Chinese voters boycott elections or spoil ballots,
01:10noting that forming the federal government requires securing 112 seats in the 222-seat parliament.
