00:00We're going to talk about whether Nancy Pelosi is losing her political edge on her home turf in San
00:05Francisco. Pelosi is finally retiring from Congress after decades of service there, and she endorsed
00:13a successor in the primary election for California's 11th congressional district.
00:19Pelosi sided with San Francisco City Board of Supervisors member Connie Chen. But Chen came
00:25in second place, in fact a distant second, to state Senator Scott Wiener. Wiener won over 40%
00:31of the vote, and Chen won less than 30%. In third place, and quite a distant third,
00:37was Saiket Chakrabarti. Chakrabarti is the independently wealthy techie who got involved
00:42in left-wing politics. He was the campaign manager for Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. San Francisco voters
00:49decided to go with the other two. It's not clear, however, that they're still listening to Pelosi,
00:54because Pelosi's endorsement used to carry a huge amount of weight in the city. And Scott Wiener,
00:59it was said, would do very poorly because he had not received her endorsement. There were all kinds
01:04of articles that came out about how he didn't have the same personal relationships with her that
01:08Connie Chen had, and so he was almost left by the wayside, except he won the primary. Now they go
01:15to
01:15a final two runoff in the general election. It's going to be Wiener versus Chen. The real question is
01:20going to be where do Chakrabarti's voters go. He is on the far left, Chen is closer to his positions,
01:26and Wiener has flip-flopped on some of his positions to get closer to the left-wing base.
01:31For example, he was defending Israel's right to defend itself, and now says Israel is guilty of
01:37genocide. So we will see what happens in the general election, but it could be a test
01:40of Pelosi's enduring influence long after she leaves the House of Representatives.
