00:00Okay, let's cruise through some of these Cowboys stories.
00:03Had a mention of this on yesterday's show.
00:05Clarence Hill on Twitter says,
00:06If you let DeMarby and Overshown tell it, it's all been decided.
00:10Said Christian Parker told him when he arrived,
00:13he wants Overshown to be the mic and the voice in the middle of the defense,
00:17and Overshown plans to play it and own it.
00:20So, great communicator, great leader.
00:23Is there anything, do you think, that would stand in between him
00:26and having success at that spot, Brian?
00:27Injury.
00:28Yeah, there you go.
00:29So, yeah.
00:30Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding.
00:31Stay healthy.
00:31Yeah.
00:32Please.
00:32Listening to him talk, though, man, he is fired up.
00:36Like, he's pumped about the mic linebacker stuff.
00:38He likes being in the center of the action there.
00:40It allows him to kind of move freely.
00:42He's talked about, hey, I'm going to be playing free for the first time
00:44since going back to high school, his first year at Texas.
00:48I mean, Overshown was getting me fired up just listening to him.
00:50Now, he is a good talker, and that seems to be a theme with some of these guys.
00:53But he does seem locked in.
00:55He's buying into it.
00:56And please, God, he can stay healthy because he's also talked about the contract.
01:01He's like, look, if I go ball out, that will take care of itself.
01:03It doesn't matter who his agent is.
01:05Yeah, great fit maybe for his personality, and maybe this scheme is a better fit for him,
01:09allowing him to go hunt the ball, make big plays, come downhill.
01:13And if all that comes together, I do feel like Overshown has it in him
01:18to be one of the top ten linebackers paid in the game.
01:21Like $15 million plus is what I'd be thinking, best case scenario.
01:24Yeah, I think the two guys that could really push this team on each side of the ball,
01:29you know, offensively, I think that's Jaden Blue.
01:32And defensively, it's Overshown.
01:33If Overshown is healthy and back to his 2024 version of himself,
01:38that does so much for you.
01:40Okay, you mentioned Jaden Blue.
01:42White blanket guy here.
01:42What happened?
01:43I'd still go get Bobby Wagner.
01:45I'd still go get Bobby Wagner.
01:47Are you having depth?
01:48I would still go get Bobby Wagner to play that Mike linebacker
01:51because yesterday at practice, they were trying to kind of figure all that out.
01:55You know, they were figuring out how much do you trust James?
01:58Barham could be the guy.
02:00But to me, the one thing you need for this defense is you need to get it off to a
02:05good start.
02:06You know, and listen, we all love Overshown.
02:10Overshown.
02:10All love him.
02:11But man, Will McClade does a really good job of trying to protect himself.
02:16Go get Bobby Wagner.
02:18Even if you don't use Bobby Wagner initially, you have him, you know,
02:22say you want to go ahead and start Overshown and all that great,
02:26but you have Bobby Wagner there if something were to go wrong.
02:30If something, and it could be injury,
02:32it could be that Overshown's not really a good Mike linebacker.
02:36That he's better playing than the weak linebacker.
02:38He's better running to the football.
02:40He's better playing the D winner spot than he is taking on blocks.
02:44You know, if you're going to try and play the run with four eyes and defensive tackles
02:52and a Mike linebacker and play coverage with everything else,
02:56you're probably going to need better than Overshown playing Mike linebacker.
02:59So it's Wagner's ability to fight off those blocks and be physical?
03:02It's Bobby Wagner's just bad-ass stoutness.
03:05Yeah, yeah.
03:06When, if you're, yeah, listen, it's going to be,
03:09you've got two really good defensive tackles
03:11and you've got these guys that are playing like these four eye positions.
03:14You're going to try and control the run with that group.
03:18I don't know if you can control the run with Overshown being your Mike linebacker.
03:23You might be right.
03:24I am curious to see it.
03:25I want to give him the opportunity to do it.
03:27But maybe they feel like they've got Wagner in their back.
03:30I mean, I don't know what the market is for him.
03:31You're going to kick yourself if somebody does sign him,
03:33and now you're like, damn it, we waited?
03:34I just feel like, to me, that if it's not Overshown, who is the other guy?
03:41Is it, you know, is it James?
03:43We saw James make a bunch of tackles.
03:45I don't love James at that spot.
03:46Okay.
03:47I mean, I do think Barham is like big, physical, violent guy.
03:53But he's a rookie, and he's kind of a tweener.
03:57Is he an edge player?
03:58Is he a linebacker?
03:59Obviously, they're making them a linebacker.
04:01I think that's why he was picked when he was picked.
04:03Because nobody figured out what he really is.
04:06Is he an edge rusher?
04:08Is he a linebacker?
04:09I think that's why.
04:11And you have to have a plan for him.
04:12I think the Cowboys have a plan.
04:14But, to me, I am not putting all my eggs in one basket on Overshown.
04:19And Dee Winters is going to be a weak side guy as well?
04:22Dee Winters is perfect to play the weak side linebacker.
04:26He's perfect the way he moves.
04:28Didn't they say earlier in the offseason that the two inside linebackers are kind of interchangeable?
04:36I don't mean to say I don't know, because maybe they did, and I just didn't hear that.
04:40I just know one thing, that we're kind of learning a lot about the Mike linebacker,
04:45that the Mike linebacker doesn't have to play in coverage.
04:48Yeah, that was a big takeaway from Ross.
04:50And that's the one thing, with Overshown, you really don't have to.
04:54But if he can play, it is going to be about being physical.
04:57Because they are going to.
04:59They're going to have to play the run with their inside guys.
05:02And that means, the one thing Dee Winters can do is he can run.
05:06And he can get to the ball.
05:08And so could Overshown.
05:09But you worry about, though, if guys get up on him.
05:13The one thing that Bobby Wagner, and he's proven that for 15 years, whatever.
05:18Maybe it's not that long.
05:20But he's proven that he can take on blocks and play at a very, very high level when it comes
05:26to defending the run.
05:27And I think it's a better, like I say, if you don't want to start him, that's one thing.
05:33But he could be, in case of emergency break glass guy, and go that route.
05:38Okay, so this is just my X's and O's naivete wondering, you have a role for Wagner, even if he
05:44can't get outside and chase the running back down?
05:45Because he's gone.
05:46Yeah, the problem with Wagner is he's probably not going to play special teams for you and stuff like that.
05:52But what he is, is he's a damn good option if all of a sudden, in week three, Baltimore starts
06:00running the ball down your throat.
06:01All right, Chief, I did want to get this in, because you mentioned Jaden Blue, and we got overshown in
06:07the first half of this segment.
06:08Some Jaden Blue on the back half, because Joseph Hoyt in Morning News has a story up about the second
06:13year Longhorn.
06:15And the buzz has been he's more dialed.
06:17Ross Winchie's saying that with Brian and Votch last week, their national scout.
06:21And then there's been additional insider reporting on the building around the buzz.
06:26So Hoyt did a story on this blue saying yesterday, I think I'm dialed in way different from where I
06:32was last year at this point.
06:35Shoddy's quote in the story, the intelligence is off the charts.
06:39I mean, the guy is football brilliant.
06:42He really is.
06:43Okay, Shoddy.
06:46I was very honest with my opinion on why he wasn't active.
06:49So we had some really great conversations.
06:51He took that.
06:52He ingested it, took it in.
06:55And he's come back with a great look on his face and a great work ethic.
06:59If this is not cheerleading, if this is the real deal, then I'm okay with them not going out and
07:04getting another running back.
07:05Yeah, I just went through and DallasCowboys.com posted the video of all the interviews yesterday.
07:11So after the show, I went back and watched it.
07:14Overshown stood out.
07:15And I thought Blues, it seems genuine.
07:18Just kind of listening to him, you can kind of see a little bit of that hunger in his eyes.
07:23He does seem like he is locked in.
07:25And so, hey, this is Kool-Aid season.
07:28This is hopium season.
07:30He needs to prove it on the football field.
07:32But I'm buying stock.
07:33I would be buying stock into Jaden Blue right now if I were a Cowboy fan.
07:36Blue said he needed to mature.
07:38Reads the story.
07:39Said he took a full look in the mirror.
07:41Said he takes full accountability.
07:42Quote, really, I was just grinding.
07:44Just grinding, making sure I'm in the playbook, staying in contact with Dak, my position coach, Derek Foster, Coach Shoddy,
07:51all offseason.
07:52I think those things, it's going really well for me right now.
07:56When he was talking about what he did through the winter and going into the summer, I was just grinding.
08:02Dak says he's growing.
08:03His ears are open.
08:04He's listening.
08:05And if you get the ball in his hands with his speed, with his ability to make people miss, it
08:09can be fun.
08:10We just have to find ways to do that.
08:12And Shoddy wraps up where we are now, saying he's going to be a huge part of what we want
08:17to do.
08:17But he's got to continue doing his part, which he's doing right now.
08:22And I think that's an important clarification.
08:24At what point will you think that was just rookie year immaturity, and now we got this Jaden Blue?
08:30I think maybe by midseason.
08:31Hopefully by midseason, we're saying haven't had a single issue with Jaden Blue.
08:35And maybe he's at 500 or 600 yards with a half dozen touchdowns.
08:39And that would be massive for this offense.
08:42That would be huge.
08:43And as we're in the C-Note Cowboys news of the evening, step aside Dak Prescott.
08:48There is a new highest-paid quarterback in the National Football League in terms of just APY.
08:53As Patrick Mahomes has just become the first half-billion-dollar player in the National Football League.
09:00He has agreed to a new contract extension that is going to pay him $504.75 million over the next
09:08eight seasons.
09:09According to Schefter, that adds two years to the six years remaining on his contract and pushes his average salary
09:15now north of the $60 million per year range.
09:18So congratulations to White House Texas' own.
09:22It took three years to get there, huh?
09:23It did.
09:24Yeah.
09:25Man, he likes doing those long deals, doesn't he?
09:27He does.
09:27I mean, he's locked in.
09:29He's not going to go anywhere else.
09:30And maybe that does ultimately help the team.
09:32Oh, yes, it does.
09:34The original one that he did was so long that it was just a matter of time before they ripped
09:38that thing up and created a new extension.
09:40But by the time you get three or four years into that, I'm sure it's going to be under market
09:44value.
09:45I'd say a little bit about what Andy Reid's at right now, too.
09:47If he's signing maybe long-term, he's thinking Andy's got to give him some insurance.
09:51He's going to keep coaching.
09:53Was he behind home plate last night?
09:54Andy Reid was behind home plate last night.
09:55Yes, he was.
09:56He left about the seventh inning.
09:59That must be cool, man.
