Ben Baby on why Cincinnati Bengals Didn't Address Linebacker This Offseason
Transcript
00:00When you look at what the Bengals did, the money that they spent on linebackers traditionally
00:04is not something they go, I think Logan Wilson was the most they'd ever paid. I think that APY
00:07was less than $10 million a year. And you look at the resources that they put into that room,
00:11they got Barrett Carter last year, and then they got Demetrius Knight. And I think this is the
00:15issue, is that by using the second round pick on Knight, you knew that he was going to stay.
00:20Barrett Carter, you go on, and especially as things got bad last year, you saw him kind of
00:24really grow into a leader, start to find his footing. I would not be shocked if we see
00:29Barrett Carter as a captain this year because of kind of the voice that he has with those
00:34young guys. And you could feel that energy. So I think you don't really want to disrupt
00:38that as much as possible. You want those guys to grow. And last year, if we're being honest,
00:43was more of a soft rebuild for that defense. The second, they went from Logan Wilson to
00:46Barrett Carter. It was with the understanding that they want to go out and kind of build
00:50those reps, bank those reps, so that hopefully in the future, that can be a really good tandem
00:55for them. So that's where I'm going with it. I do think they need a sign.
00:58But I think when everybody was freaking out, I was like, it doesn't make sense for where
01:02they're at because that's a big chunk of resources you're going to allocate for a position that
01:06right now isn't a major need.
