Cincinnati Bengals at Green Bay Packers: Game Day Chat
Transcript
00:00It's Bengals, it's Packers, it's Lambeau Field, and welcome in, everyone.
00:05I'm James Zerpine, where the Bengals, well, they're hoping to end a three-game losing streak today,
00:10and they're hoping that the Joe Flacco era starts with a W.
00:14Plenty of storylines going into this one, of course.
00:17Joe Flacco, the Bengals' starting quarterback, well, he was traded for five days ago.
00:22The team has really did everything behind the scenes, I think, to get him as up to speed as possible,
00:29and that's going to be the storyline in today's game, is can this Bengals' offense produce points?
00:34Can they be competitive early? Can they get off to a fast start?
00:38They haven't scored a touchdown in the first half since Joe Burrow was quarterback.
00:43It's been a while, so finding a way to get into a rhythm on offense early is a huge storyline going into this game,
00:49and they're asking a guy to do it that was traded for, like I said, five days ago,
00:53practice with the team on Wednesday for the first time,
00:56so you're talking about three practices, a couple of walkthroughs, a bunch of X's and O's sessions,
01:03behind-the-scenes meetings, and we'll see if Joe Flacco is ready to go.
01:07He's hoping to be the first quarterback in the Super Bowl era to beat a team the same season with two different teams.
01:15He beat and led the Browns to a victory over the Packers in Week 3 in Cleveland,
01:20and that was a surprise at the time.
01:23They rallied late, and a lot of crazy things happened at the end of that game for Joe Flacco and the Browns to win.
01:29Now, always hoping for some similar craziness, some similar magic,
01:33and look, it's going to be different.
01:35If the Bengals are going to win this game, there's a few things that they need to do.
01:38First things first, like I said, score early.
01:40They're going to have to score early.
01:41They're going to have to not that you're ever going to take this crowd out of the game,
01:46but you're going to have to make sure that they don't have a ton to cheer about early on,
01:50and if you get out to that 7-0 lead, something they haven't done during this three-game losing streak,
01:54or you get out to a – even if it's 10-7 Packers going into halftime or in that range,
02:00well, that's much better than what it's been over the past few games during this losing streak,
02:04where, like I said, they have struggled to move the ball in the first half.
02:07Last week against Detroit, they got going a bit in the fourth quarter,
02:11but it's going to be big to get Jamar Chase and T. Higgins the ball,
02:16and Joe Flacco mentioned that this week when he talked to us on Friday that, let's be honest here,
02:22they're two of the best in the world.
02:24You've got to find a way to get them the ball.
02:26Everybody can see what they've done throughout their careers and the kind of players they are.
02:31I think it's exciting for anybody to kind of go out and see them play,
02:34so when you're the guy that gets to throw to them, it's just another level.
02:38You can't overthink it.
02:39I know everything, you know, you like to talk about all that, the chemistry and everything,
02:45but, you know, those guys are two of the best in the world at what they do.
02:51If you can't throw to them and get on the same page as them, then you're in trouble.
02:54And it's not just T. Higgins.
02:55It's not just Jamar Chase.
02:57Jamar going to play today.
02:58I think he was always going to play despite the illness that sidelined him on Friday.
03:03And you've got to get Jamar involved.
03:05But T. Higgins, he's on pace for career lows and catches and yards.
03:10And it's been a struggle getting him the ball consistently.
03:13And it's one of those things where if you're the Bengals, it starts with Jamar.
03:19It starts with T.
03:20But you also have Andrej Osovac, who had his best game of the season last week and is confident going into this game.
03:26You have guys like Mike Kosicki.
03:28You have guys like Noah Fant.
03:30Chase Brown, of course.
03:31All these weapons need to be involved.
03:34And if you get those guys involved and you can be balanced on offense and with a quick game,
03:40with a quick passes to Chase Brown and others, and maybe get the ground game going a little bit,
03:44it would go a long way toward helping this offensive line, which they have a tough challenge today.
03:49There's no doubt.
03:49Micah Parsons, Rashawn Gary, and this defensive front for the Packers, they're going to get pressure.
03:55We know that.
03:57And so how do you scheme for that?
04:00I think that's a big scheme thing.
04:01A lot of people are saying, oh, how the Bengals offensive line hold up.
04:03Well, most offensive lines can't hold up against this Packers front.
04:07What you're going to have to do is you're going to have to get the ball out quick.
04:10You're going to have to have that in your game plan.
04:12And you're banking on Joe Flacco in his first game with the Bengals to do so here at Lambeau.
04:18On defense, force some chaos, get some turnovers.
04:21No Shamar Stewart again today, but this is a big Trey Hendrickson game, a big Trey Hendrickson game.
04:26You're going to need Trey Hendrickson to, one, be in position on second and third and long to get after the passer.
04:32And where does that start?
04:34You can't let Josh Jacobs get off to a crazy start and get running downhill and average five-plus yards a carry.
04:39The Bengals did well against David Montgomery and Jameer Gibbs last week.
04:43We'll see if they can do well against this Packers rushing attack today.
04:46So far, the Packers haven't been great running the ball this year.
04:48We'll see if the Bengals can keep it that way.
04:51We're going to have you covered throughout the day at benglestalk.com and certainly after the game as well right here with postgame interviews.
04:59Win, lose, draw.
05:00We're here for you at Lambeau as the sun starts to come out.
05:03It's a beautiful day for football here in Green Bay.
05:07We'll talk to you after the game.
05:08I'm James Rapine.
05:09Thank you so much for watching right here on Cincinnati Bengals Talk and benglestalk.com.
