00:00I don't know if the Red Sox have been more dysfunctional.
00:03Maybe, I guess you could use the Bobby V year.
00:06But they won the World Series the year after that.
00:09So, like, yesterday was a great example.
00:13There was a bunch of murmuring.
00:17Some quiet drumbeat that Meyer was on his way for Kettle Marte.
00:22That was, I guess, done to smoke out a bad source in the Red Sox organization.
00:27That was some of the scuttlebutt you have.
00:29That John Henry in ownership has been the one calling teams to get a bat.
00:35There is no leadership.
00:37I don't know.
00:39I think the biggest winner right now is Alex Cora.
00:42Although, by the way, the Philadelphia Phillies, 35-30 right now.
00:48Everybody's saying they were as bad as the Red Sox on the day that Alex Cora got fired
00:52and turned down that job saying that, why would you want to take that job?
00:55Yeah.
00:56Pretty bad take by those people, but okay.
00:58The Red Sox today have no manager.
01:02They have no general manager.
01:04And they have an owner who's dead set on ruining the sport.
01:07But other than that, I feel like they're in a great position.
01:11Like, they have no idea what they're doing.
01:14There is no direction.
01:16They are directionless.
01:17They have no – the way in which this roster to put together, they can't score more than a single
01:24run.
01:25They are the most dull and listless team I can remember.
01:31It's awful.
01:32I was guessing yesterday you made – and I believe he's a small – is Theo an equity holder here?
01:39He probably has a point or two.
01:40Okay.
01:41So, he is probably who was calling around, right?
01:43John Henry is not calling around.
01:45I don't think John Henry is not.
01:46Trying to shake loose a right-handed bat, is he?
01:49No, I don't think he would do that.
01:51If he is, most likely he's using a rotary phone, like a rotary dial.
01:56I mean, is he, like – is he actually calling around and, like –
02:00I wouldn't think him.
02:01Or is Sam Kennedy's, like, a little bit of an owner, too, right?
02:04No, Sam Kennedy's not.
02:05No.
02:06So, yeah, I don't win that.
02:07It's got to be Theo.
02:08And I guess Theo's trying to help Brezbot out.
02:11I mean, I – well, like, what's the point of having a chief of baseball operations if he's not the
02:17one scrambling around in desperation mode,
02:20trying to get you a right-handed bat?
02:22And, Curtis, wait, just because it's piqued my curiosity so much, I saw the same thing that you did, I
02:28think, from Alex Speer about Marcelo Meyer
02:30and that rumor out there that he was being moved.
02:34They were trying to smoke out like a leaker?
02:37That's something I heard yesterday.
02:40That's really interesting to me.
02:42Because it was basically a fait accompli.
02:45People thought the thing was done, and then it was all of a sudden not done.
02:50And I – I mean, I – that is usually what organizations do when they're circling a drain.
02:59Yeah, or there's just –
03:00If they don't trust somebody, there's a rat in the building.
03:02Yeah, there's crazy paranoia in the inner circle.
03:04Well, it's almost like having to buy the newspaper that covers the team.
03:07Rabel had to deal with that.
03:09There's some rats in the building over there.
03:11You've got to smoke them out.
03:12Yeah, Rabel had to deal with a lot of rats this offseason.
03:16There's some rats around.
03:17Yeah, that is wild.
03:18You know, some of these rats around here, so.
03:20Yeah, I don't think John Henry's picking up the phone and calling nobody.
03:23I know.
03:24No, that read like Theo.
03:25It is.
03:26Yeah.
03:26But don't you think it would be different if it was Theo?
03:29I don't consider him ownership.
03:31Like, he's gone out of his way to say he's a consultant.
03:35So, can you imagine John Henry on a phone call, like, discussing war and other things with whoever he's talking
03:43to on the other line?
03:44I want you to know that I approached Xander and Raphael recently.
03:51I just can't see it happen.
03:53I can't see it happen.
03:55And a player to be named later.
03:56I don't know.
03:58Desperate times.
03:58People do desperate things.
04:00Yeah, I think – well, if he's trying to get somebody, then I guess then he still believes in this
04:05team, even though it seems like it's slipping away from them.
04:08But I was watching that game last night, and I was just like – and, you know, we've been having
04:12this conversation about John Henry and possibly people like he should sell the team.
04:18And the Tampa Bay Rays, I believe, have the best record in the American League.
04:26Yeah, they've been in a slump of late.
04:28Right, but I –
04:29Yes, and they have an $87 million payroll.
04:31Right.
04:32And there was literally 45 people there.
04:35Yeah.
04:36And I was thinking to myself, this is the best team in the AL.
04:41Can't even get people to come out to the game.
04:43And you're one of the worst teams in the AL, and it's packed all the time.
04:49I'm like –
04:49You're making my point.
04:50I'm like, there's no way John Henry is going to sell this team.
04:53No, no, he's never going to.
04:54It's just –
04:55He's never going to.
04:56I was like, man, I can't believe how many empty seats were there.
04:59Please.
05:00Curtis brought up the dysfunction over at Fenway and with the entire organization.
05:06So I wanted to add to that, which is some comments that were made yesterday by Carlos Narvaez with J
05:16.C. McCaffrey.
05:17I don't know who that is.
05:18Jen McCaffrey, friend of mine.
05:19Jen McCaffrey.
05:20You probably know Jen well because you're both journalists.
05:22She's great.
05:23And he said, quote, I haven't talked with – he was asked about his playing time being reduced of late.
05:30I think he's played four of the last 12 games.
05:35And he said, I haven't talked with nobody, and nobody has talked with me.
05:40But like I said, I get it.
05:42I'm part of the team, and I understand what's going on.
05:44But on my end, I just have to be ready.
05:47No one is telling me anything.
05:49If something changed, clearly something changed.
05:52But I don't know.
05:54I guess I will just be ready for the opportunity, and that's it.
05:58So I don't know, Curtis, who is captaining the ship over there, if you had to guess?
06:04I think everybody's doing their own captaining to keep themselves above water
06:09but not really concerning themselves for the absolute disarray that it's caused the organization as a whole.
06:13Yeah, that's a guy who has said countless times, loves the organization, wants to be a Red Sox for life,
06:21et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
06:22And you can't let him know what the plan is when it comes to Mickey Gasper?
06:27Honestly, like I'm sorry, Carlos Navarez.
06:30I've spoken to you a couple times.
06:31You seem like a really nice guy.
06:33Your team sucks.
06:34Like you don't get this benefit of – I know communication could be better.
06:40I heard the same thing, and I thought, you know what, dude, win some games.
06:43If you don't play like crap, you're not going to get replaced.
06:45Right.
06:45Hit the baseball.
06:46Like it's not that hard.
06:48It's really not.
06:49If you don't hit the baseball, somebody else is going to get that opportunity.
06:53If they hit the baseball, then guess what?
06:56That's why they're playing and you're not.
06:58Do you need the manager to tell you that?
07:00Right.
07:00Look at your stats.
07:01That's it.
07:02You're awful.
07:03Right.
07:03I mean, why do people need – like we're talking about grown men in sports.
07:09Right.
07:09Why does the coach – and I get it.
07:11So if you just suddenly saw a schedule here and it said you were now working the big dog show
07:17with Shyam and Megan on Saturdays,
07:20you wouldn't want any kind of an explanation from Lent Laird or Mike Thomas or somebody to tell you what
07:27happened?
07:28No, not if I knew my performance.
07:29What's going on?
07:30No, if I knew my performance every day was horrible and I was –
07:33Excuse me.
07:33That's what lands you on the big dog show.
07:36Well.
07:36Well, no, I'm just saying.
07:37Well, well.
07:38Excuse us.
07:38Well, if you get –
07:39Well, if you get –
07:39Well, Shyam.
07:40If you're getting demoted, clearly you're not doing something right.
07:43And then –
07:44Well, for some of us, Wiggy, it's a promotion.
07:46All right?
07:47Didn't he –
07:47Shyam got handed the big dog show.
07:49Didn't Alex Cora –
07:50No, I didn't.
07:50I had to work my ass off for that.
07:51Didn't Alex Cora sit him at the beginning of the season for missing something?
07:55Yes.
07:55Yes, he was 90 minutes late for a meeting between Garrett Crochet, Alex Cora, Jason Veritek, and Andrew Bailey.
08:06And they were on the road and he had nowhere to be and he showed up 90 minutes late.
08:10Right.
08:11So –
08:11And nobody –
08:11By the way, nobody wanted to punish him other than one person in that group who got his way.
08:16And let me just ask you this question, Greg, not because you've ever been broken up with.
08:21Hold on.
08:22Is somebody using that scoop to smoke out who the leaker is over there?
08:25I think so.
08:26Oh, boy.
08:26All right.
08:26Anyway, go ahead.
08:27I shouldn't have said that.
08:28No, let's back that up.
08:30Whenever someone gets broken up with, they always are mad about the manner in which the news was delivered, not
08:35that the news was delivered.
08:37Yeah.
08:37Because they don't want to get a mirror and say, oh, did I have something to do with the fact
08:41that this relationship didn't work out?
08:43And so you get mad at the way somebody told you something as opposed to dealing with the reality of
08:47what they said.
08:48And Carlos Narvaez is the latest and greatest example of a guy bitching about how he was demoted, not that
08:54he was demoted.
08:56Okay.
08:56Now, Monty Mack in the Twitch chat says that I am being very transparent.
09:01Mm-hmm.
09:01And my fake outrage is because I am trying to kill Breslow again.
09:08I think Breslow's doing a great job of that on his own.
09:11Yeah.
09:11I will be – I'll be totally transparent.
09:15I don't believe that Craig Breslow is the guy to steward the organization forward in the right way.
09:21So I'm very upfront and honest about that.
09:24Right.
09:25So I don't get that.
09:26I mean, I don't obviously get that.
09:27I think Bres bought like he – it's maybe about the manager telling Narvaez the direction that they're going in.
09:34But it's like Curtis said, if you don't hit the baseball, you're not going to play.
