04:02Hello, Miss Hoody
04:03Hi there, Archie
04:04Hello
04:04Hello
04:08So, what brings you to the nursery today?
04:10Well, I've got something to show you
04:13It's my new carrot picking machine
04:18It looks like an old yoghurt pot
04:22It may look like an old yoghurt pot
04:24But it is, I assure you, most definitely
04:26A carrot picking machine
04:27How does it work?
04:29Well, it's simple
04:30I put it over the carrot in the soil
04:32Get hold of the carrot
04:33Twist
04:34And hey-ho
04:35Got a carrot
04:36Very simple
04:37Does it work?
04:38Ah, well, I was hoping we could test it out in the nursery garden
04:41Oh, yes, of course
04:44Oh, no, yes, yes, yes, yes
04:46Oh, no
04:47Oh, yes, yes, yes
04:48I'm sure you can have armfuls of lovely orange carrots
04:51Oh, no
04:52Yes, yes
04:55Archie, will you please just stand still?
04:59What is it, Missou?
05:00There's big, messy orange footprints all over my carpet
05:07So it is
05:10Have you got paint on your shoes?
05:12I haven't, but you have
05:21So I have
05:21Well, I wonder how that got there
05:24I think we should find out, don't you?
05:26Right, lead the way
05:43The footprints lead all the way to...
05:53Well, I wonder who's responsible for this
05:56Well, not me
05:57I'm sure I didn't know that painting was there
05:59Well, there's only one person in Balamori
06:01who leaves paint pots lying around with their lids off
06:05Spencer
06:06Well, I'll go and ask me if this belongs to him right away
06:09Oh, thanks, Archie
06:10And when you come back, we'll try out your carrot-picking machine
06:13Just can you?
06:16Bye
06:18So, I wonder which coloured house Archie will visit first today
06:26Can you see all the different coloured houses sitting by the sea?
06:31Well, this part of the story in Balamori
06:35I wonder if you ask, which is the house for me?
06:38Is it yellow?
06:39Is it pink?
06:41Is it orange?
06:42What do you think?
06:43Is it red, green, blue or white?
06:46Which coloured house do you think is right?
06:49Yellow house?
06:50Orange house?
06:52Blue, pink or white?
06:55Green house?
06:56Red house?
06:57Which do you think is white?
07:06Which coloured house are we going to?
07:09Tell me what do you think?
07:12Which coloured house are we going to?
07:14Tell me what do you think?
07:17It's the orange house
07:20Yes, it's the orange house
07:21Because that's where Spencer lives
07:27Spencer
07:28Oh, Archie, how's it going?
07:30It's going orange
07:34Oh, dear
07:35What happened?
07:37Somebody knocked over this tin of orange paint at the nursery
07:41I walked through it and then I trod orange footprints all over Miss Hooley's office
07:45Oh, that's...
07:46That's the tin of paint I left at the nursery this morning
07:50Why did you leave it there?
07:51Well, because Miss Hooley asked me to drop it off so the children can have a go at handprinting
07:56See?
07:58I've been practising
08:00What do you think?
08:01Oh, looks fun
08:02Oh, it is!
08:04Look, this is what you do
08:06First
08:08You paint your hand orange
08:10Like this
08:12And then you press it to the paper like this
08:17And this
08:18And this
08:20And this
08:21And this
08:22Oh, the children are going to love handprinting
08:25And thanks for telling me about the spilled tin
08:28Because
08:30Here's another one
08:35There you go
08:36Right, well, thanks for the paint, Spencer
08:39Thanks for explaining where the orange paint came from
08:42Now all you have to do is find out who spilled it
08:45That could be more difficult
08:47Orange five
08:50Hmm
09:02Hi there, Archie
09:03Well, I've finished cleaning the paint up
09:05And I've cleared up where the paint came from
09:07Spencer
09:08He says that you asked him to bring it over so the children could do some handprinting
09:11Oh, yes, I remember now
09:13He says this is for you to have instead of the spilled tin
09:16Oh, that was kind of him
09:18Thank you, Archie
09:19Right, now that that one's sorted
09:21Can I quickly show you my carrot picking machine?
09:23Yes
09:27Ah, I think we're just a little bit too late
09:31Goodness me
09:34First somebody knocks a tin of paint over
09:37And then they've stolen all of the carrots from the vegetable patch
09:40Who could have done such a thing?
09:42And who could find out who spilled the paint and took the carrots?
09:47Plumbers
09:52I'm PC Plum and I'll tell you what I've done
09:56I've peddled round this island more than once or twice
10:00And if you call on me, we can make a cup of tea
10:05I'll tell you all about the bees and birds and mice
10:12I'm PC Plum and I'll tell you who I am
10:16I'm your policeman and I'll always be your chum
10:20With my magnifying glass I can look between the grass
10:25At all the tiny beasties, we look at them run
10:30You can bet you'll see me coming
10:34On my bike, I'm riding round the town
10:38In the country, I've checked on all the wildlife
10:43The people, trees and animals
10:45I keep them safe and sound
10:48Safe and sound
10:52I'm PC Plum
11:02PC Plum
11:05I'm just a chicken
11:06PC Plum
11:09I love the country
11:11PC Plum
11:13Be careful crossing
11:16PC Plum
11:18I found your doggie
11:20PC Plum
11:23Here's your handbag
11:25PC Plum
11:31PC Plum
11:32Yes, sir
11:33Well, it is a very quiet day in Balamori
11:36Yeah, yeah, I'm just looking through some files
11:38Yes, sir
11:40I do like to keep everything up to date
11:42Come on, Thomas, you're haunted
11:43What? Oh, who wants me?
11:45Miss Hoody, come on
11:46Oh, wish a minute, Archie
11:47Wait, I can't just go rushing off without knowing where and why
11:50Now, tell me
11:51What's the story in Balamori?
11:54Well, in all started this morning
11:55When I went to show Miss Hoody my new carrot picking machine
12:01I thought Miss Hoody could help me test out my carrot picking machine in the nursery garden
12:06But before I could ask
12:07We found that somebody had knocked over a tin of orange paint in the garden
12:11I'd walked through it and made great orange footprints in the nursery
12:15Spencer said he'd left the tin of paint in the nursery for the children to use for handpicking
12:19But he didn't knock it over
12:22And I didn't knock it over
12:23So who did?
12:25Probably the same person who took the carrots from the nursery garden
12:32First the paint and then the carrots
12:34I mean, who could have done such a thing?
12:36Well, don't worry, Archie
12:37We'll soon solve this mystery
12:39PC Plum is on the case
12:40Come on
12:47And the carrots were just here
12:49Just there, plumbers
12:50Hmm, interesting
12:53Now, show me where the tin of orange paint was spilled
12:56Right
12:58It was just here
13:01Hmm, I see
13:02What did you see, plumbers?
13:04Clues, Archie
13:05Clues
13:08What are you two boys looking for?
13:10Ah, Miss Hoody
13:10We're just looking for clues to explain who took the carrots and who spilt the paint
13:15And do you know who it was?
13:17Maybe
13:18Who was it, plumbers?
13:20Not who, Archie
13:20What?
13:21What?
13:22Oh, let me be more specific
13:24A pony
13:25A pony?
13:26How can you be so sure?
13:29Hoofprints
13:30And by looking at that, I would see it was John Modison's pony from the far farm
13:34But how can you be so sure?
13:37Well, John rang me this morning to tell me that his pony Pip was missing from the field
13:42That on my way down to the farm I found the missing pony
13:45That it had orange paint all over its hooves
13:48Come on
13:52This orange paint
13:53Just like me?
13:55Exactly
13:55So the pony kicked over the tins of paint
13:58But how do you know he took all the carrots?
14:01Ah, well, that's as clear as mud
14:02Mud?
14:04Look, see?
14:06Hoofprints all over the mud
14:07Well-spotted, PC Plum
14:09Oh, well, it wasn't only to do with spotting things, Miss Hilly
14:12John also told me that his pony was partial to a carrot or two as a treat
14:16So imagine what the pony thought when it came in here and saw all these carrots
14:20You are wonderful, PC Plum
14:22You've not only solved the mystery, but you've caught Pip
14:27But I never got to try out my carrot-picking machine
14:30Oh, dear
14:31Oh, well, I may be able to solve that problem, too
14:34How?
14:35Well, I'm taking my nephew for a pony ride this afternoon
14:38You could come, too
14:40Pony riding?
14:41No, silly
14:43But it appears that ponies are very good at sniffing out carrots
14:46And I thought that maybe they would be able to find some for you to pick with your...
14:50My carrot-picking machine
14:51Right
14:51Come on
14:52Bye, Miss Hilly
14:53Bye
14:58Okay, Angus, this is Smarties, and he's four years old
15:01Hello, Smarties
15:02And I've heard that he's very good at sniffing out carrots
15:05And even better at eating them as well
15:08Oh, really?
15:09What are we waiting for?
15:10Come on, giddy up
15:12Oh, oh, oh
15:14Brief sign of any carrots here, come on
15:16Oh, oh, wait a minute, Archie
15:18I think Smarties is on to something
15:20Carrots?
15:21He's found carrots
15:23Oh, well done
15:24Well done, Smarties
15:25But I'll tell you what, sir
15:26I'll take over from here
15:45That's great, Archie
15:47But how does your carrot-picking machine work?
15:49Ah, well, I'll show you
15:50Can I hold that?
15:51Thank you, Angus
15:52Right
15:53Space
15:53Pick up
15:54Oh, the carrot-picking
15:56Twist
15:57And pull
15:59There we go
15:59Another carrot
16:00We'll have that one from us all
16:14Well, I think that's enough carrots for one day, plumber
16:17And I'll tell you who I think deserves this as a little treat
16:19Of course
16:21Smarties
16:21Here we go
16:34Well, Spencer was right
16:36The children loved making these handprints
16:41Aren't they fantastic?
16:44And can you guess who made this one?
16:47That's right
16:48It was Pip the Pony
16:50Because it's a horseshoe print
16:55Well, what was the story in Balamori today?
16:59Well, it all started when Archie came round to show me his latest invention
17:07Archie thought I could help him test his carrot-picking machine in the nursery garden
17:13But Archie had walked through a puddle of orange paint and made footprints all over the place
17:21Spencer told Archie that he'd left a tin of orange paint in the nursery garden for me
17:25So that I could do some hand-painting with the children
17:30But it was a mystery who knocked over the paint, Tim
17:33It was also a mystery who took the carrots from the nursery garden
17:39PC Plum solved both mysteries in no time
17:43He pointed out the paint-covered hoof prints of a pony he'd caught earlier that day
17:51Ponies love carrots almost as much as Archie
17:53Who finally did get to use his carrot-picking machine
18:00So everything worked out fine in the end
18:03And this horseshoe was lucky
18:05Well, for Archie anyway
18:11So that was the story in Balamori
18:13Bye
18:28Balamori, Balamori
