09:53siendo thrown into the side of the titantron and Sho tears apart a section of the entrance
09:57stage. Shane's able to avoid getting hit with it as he uses the entranceway to kick
10:02Sho in the face, which in turn allows TNA to attack the Big Show from behind.
10:07They lay the shots in as Shane directs traffic, testing Albert hold Sho as Shane wields an
10:12anvil case into his helpless opponent and now it's the big man who's in trouble, or
10:17so I thought, because Sho gets back to his feet and he begins cleaning house once again.
10:21Shane looks to escape by climbing the set, and this distraction allows Bull Buchanan to
10:26attack Sho from behind with another nightstick. As Bull chokes out the big man, Shane pushes
10:31over a speaker and it lands right on Sho's leg. The sparks fly, the big man gets pinned
10:36down with nowhere to go, and so Shane grabs a cinder block from somewhere, and he breaks
10:42it over the back of Big Sho's head which I'm fairly sure would kill a man, but in this case
10:48all it does is gain Shane a three count and a victory here tonight in Louisville. Shane
10:53and his associates scram to the back while referees and backstage personnel tend to the Big Show,
10:57and yep, not the greatest no DQ match you'll ever see and it's not even the best match
11:02that these two would end up havin'. Our boy Jerry's still skulking away seeking sanctuary. He makes
11:12his way inside the officials room and he asks if he can just sit in and relax for a while.
11:17Our two
11:17officials are more than willing to oblige, so Jerry rests his eyes for a second. It really is only for
11:23a second though as he immediately wakes back up again when it looks like one of these crooked refs is
11:27trying
11:28to make a move to pin him and take his title. The boys say they were just kidding around but
11:32Jerry's
11:32off to tell Mr. Mac-Man about these two jokers. We then see Trips and Sean having a chat backstage
11:39and Hunter asks the most pertinent question of all, it's not if DX are getting back together,
11:44it's not if HBK's gonna screw the rock, what Hunter wants to know is if Sean's really gonna wear
11:50those shorts tonight. Up next, oh boy, it's our IC title match as Chris Benoit defends against Chris
11:57Jericho once again. These two had a great match last month at Backlash and this time,
12:02it's being contested under the stipulation of being a submission match, so tonight we're gonna
12:07find out which is better, the Crippler Crossface or the Walls of Jericho. Y2J may well be yated in
12:13this match considering that on Smackdown, old bastard Bob Holly did a number on the IC champion's knee,
12:19so Benoit may not be at 100% going into this one. The referee has to break up a collar
12:24and elbow tie
12:25up in the corner as both men jockey for the advantage, the Crippler goes to work at the ropes with
12:29knees,
12:30kicks and chops but Jericho scores with a bulldog to stop Benoit's offence. Y2J locks in an arm bar,
12:36reminding us that it's not just the two men signature submissions that you have to watch out for,
12:41Benoit escapes and the two men trade tombstone positions until Benoit connects with a shoulder
12:45breaker to Jericho. The champ heads up top and scores with his diving headbutt to the shoulder of
12:50challenger, underlining that this is gonna be the point of attack going forward. A seated abdominal
12:55stretch keeps the pressure on the shoulder but Jericho escapes and he goes for the walls,
12:59he can't get it applied though. He puts Benoit down with a running back elbow before connecting
13:04with his springboard dropkick which sends Benoit to the outside, we then see Val Venus looking on in
13:09the back seeing as Val's challenge the winner of this match to a title match tomorrow night on Raw.
13:14Benoit sends Jericho's shoulder first into the steps but Benoit gets dropped knee first over those
13:20same steps. Back in the ring, Jericho connects with the double underhook backbreaker before the two
13:24lads take some skin off each other with some knife edge chops. Jericho charges at Benoit in the corner
13:30but the champion moves out of the way and Y2J goes shoulder first into the post. Benoit removes the
13:36top turnbuckle pad, eventually, and the challenger gets rammed into that exposed steel bolt. Benoit puts
13:43the challenger down again with a snap suplex and a body slam before looking for a Fujiwara arm bar,
13:48Bastard Bob's seen looking on as Benoit drives his own knee into that exposed turnbuckle which
13:53in turn lets Jericho do a bit of damage before removing Benoit's knee brace. Y2J lays in a few
14:00shots to the knee with that brace and he then connects with the lion's salt, but remember there's
14:04no pinfalls in this match. Benoit gets caught up in the rope so Jericho applies the walls of Jericho to
14:10a tied up crippler. There's no rope break here as there's technically no DQ saying as the only way to
14:16win is via submission. So Benoit fights free and Jericho puts the move on in the middle of the ring,
14:21but Benoit knocks Y2J down with that brace and this allows him to lock in the crossface. The move
14:27stays in for a long time but Jericho won't give up, so Benoit changes his grip from around the face
14:33there around the neck which eventually causes Jericho to pass out. So Chris Benoit retains the IC title
14:39despite the fact that Y2J didn't physically submit. You know what you're going to get with these two
14:44and this one was no exception, another great outing even with a stipulation that could have been seen
14:50as a hindrance before the bout started. The paranoia of being WWF Hardcore Champion
14:59still affects Jerry Briscoe. He thinks people are trying to get him at restaurants, at the airport,
15:04his life's been turned upside down and he even starts beating up arena staff because he thought they
15:10wanted his coveted hardcore title. Meanwhile, The Rock's in the dressing room giving Shawn Michaels
15:15a warning. If Shawn decides to do what Shawn always does and somehow become the centre of attention,
15:21then The Rock's going to kick his ass and it won't take 60 minutes either.
15:25Next we've got a tables match, X-Pac and Road Dogg of D-Generation X taking on the Dudley Boys.
15:30This one boiled over when Tory put Bubba through a table on Raw this past Monday,
15:34it seemed to freak him out for some reason but D-Von says Tory will pay for her sins tonight
15:39at
15:39judgement day. Both members of the team must go through the tables though not consecutively,
15:45and we begin with a jumping shoulder tackle and a back elbow from D-Von. X-Pac comes in for
15:49a spinning
15:49back kick on Bubba but he's unable to retrieve a table afterwards, instead he takes a boot in the
15:54corner, a diving clothesline, and both Waltman and Road Dogg get their wee degenerate smashed after
15:59taking D-Von's flying headbutt. DX decide to leave the match because why not, but they quickly get
16:06retrieved by the Dudleys, Bubba locks eyes on Tory and JR says Bubba may be getting wooed as we speak,
16:12it certainly looks that way for sure but Tory comes to no harm as the match continues in the ring.
16:18We see X-Pac's Bronco Buster followed by quick tags from D-Generation X, the boys cheat in order to
16:23maintain control but a double clothesline allows D-Von to tag out, and the crowd gets behind Bubba as he
16:29performs a sidewalk slam, the Bubba bomb and a Samoan drop on his opponents. Great fire here from Bubba
16:35Ray Dudley. It's time for the Dudley boys to get some real wooed as Bubba calls for the tables,
16:40the lads get three tables in the ring but on the outside it's D-Von who goes through the wooed
16:45first
16:45when Road Dogg performs his pump handle drop from the ring steps. Now all DX have to do is put
16:51Bubba
16:51through a table to win the match. X-Pac tries to end it but it's the kid who ends up
16:55taking a powerbomb
16:56through the furniture so everything's all even again. Road Dogg finds the time to perform a
17:01dancey punch in the middle of the chaos but Bubba fights back, for some reason Mike Yota tries to
17:06stop the two punching each other so Rhodey and Bubba decide to join forces in order to put the
17:10referee out of commission, this gets a good reaction but it turned out to be a bad move, particularly
17:15for Bubba Ray Dudley. The table gets put in position and Road Dogg takes a 3D, the referee's out cold
17:21and
17:21he doesn't see the move. So Jerry Briscoe shows up to pull the D-O-double-G out of the
17:25ring and Tori
17:27ends up getting inside the ropes, she tries to slap Bubba, this doesn't work, and so D-Von sets up
17:32another table while Bubba… Bubba wants to lick Tori's forehead, I don't know. Jerry Briscoe saves
17:39Tori from disaster before waking up the referee, X-Pac pulls off a top rope axe factor and Bubba goes
17:45through the table, D-Generation X beat the Dudleys at their own game and I enjoyed this one,
17:51Bubba Ray Dudley was definitely the star of the show. To end on a high note, the Dudleys give Jerry
17:56Briscoe a 3D after the bell, DX were in no hurry to help Jerry out but hey, what are Stooges
18:02for?
18:08That creepy video plays again just before our main event, the one with the creepy little girl
18:13saying the bedtime prayer as I lay me down to sleep with a few words altered. Something's going to
18:18happen in this main event dudes and as mentioned in Reliving the War, I think we all knew what was
18:23coming. But it's now time for the final match, a 60 minute Iron Man match between The Rock and Triple
18:28H. In short, Rock defeated Triple H at Backlash to become WWF champion, Hunter announced two weeks
18:34later he wanted an Iron Man match against Rock at judgement day, and last week Shawn Michaels announced
18:39that he was going to officiate the match, seeing as he's the only guy in the WWF right now who's
18:44competed in an Iron Man match in the past. Triple H said HBK would have no future if he didn't
18:49do the
18:49right thing at judgement day, and The Rock's very wary of Shawn, seeing as he screwed him over before
18:54when officiating a match between The Great One and his old friend Triple H. Shawn comes out first and
19:00yeah, he's wearing those shorts, takes a railman to wear those bad boys. The challenger then makes his
19:05entrance and after getting in the ring, he tells the McMahon family to head to the back. Triple H
19:10knows he can beat Rock all by himself, he wants to prove to the people that he's that damn good,
19:15so Shane, Steph and Vince head back up the ramp. The WWF champion makes his entrance and the roof
19:21comes off the arena. The Rock's got a tough task ahead of him tonight, seeing as Triple H's more
19:26rounded ring style definitely suits a marathon match in comparison to the champ's more explosive ring
19:32style, but let's see what happens, it's the second Iron Man match in the reliving the war series.
19:37The Rock vs Triple H with Shawn Michaels as our special referee.
19:46I don't want to bore you guys by going over every move in this match, so everything's going to be
19:51abridged until the end of the bout, and besides, these kind of matches are better viewed as a whole
19:56and not by someone recapping what happened in a YouTube video. Get over to Peacock or Netflix to
20:02check this one out for yourself if you're already invested in the storyline, because it's most
20:06definitely worth 60 minutes of your time. The crowd pops for the opening lockup, which is good to see
20:12and hear. These fans just don't want to see these guys go at it for a full hour, they're actually
20:17really excited for it. The two build up anticipation really well in the early going by shoving each other
20:23and backing off after another lockup, and we see some stuff from the Rock we haven't seen in a while
20:28including a running pin attempt and a leapfrog. Rock gets the better of Hunter within the first 5
20:33minutes and so far Shawn Michaels hasn't been a factor. There's been some stalling for sure,
20:39but it's actually working in Rock and Hunter's favour, these guys are so over that they could get
20:44away with just standing in the ring and looking at each other. The crowd is still extremely excited to
20:49see how this plays out. When the game goes on offence, he decides to immediately zone in on a body
20:55part,
20:55the left arm becomes Hunter's main target and this allows the men to slow down a little and bring it
21:00to the mat. Hunter means business though when he stops a comeback with an armbar takedown. And as we
21:05approach 50 minutes remaining, Rock's once again brought down to the mat. The first fall happens
21:11out of nowhere when Hunter kicks Rock right on the shoulder and Rock instantly replies with a rock bottom,
21:16so with just over 10 minutes passed, Rock goes up 1-0, Brett and Shawn couldn't even manage a single
21:22point during their 60 minute match and here, Rock's done it in 10 minutes. The crowd are happy that
21:27Rock's took the early lead but he's still favouring his left arm and shoulder, the two then head to the
21:32outside and they brawl on the rumpway for a few minutes, Rock brings Hunter back in with a suplex,
21:37and Rock finds himself a target when he goes after the challenger's left knee. This kind of strategy is
21:43something we really haven't seen from the rock before and it seems to be pretty effective.
21:47After using the ring post to do a little more damage and after softening up the knee a little
21:51more, Rock applies a figure 4. Hunter sells the move brilliantly while Shawn checks for a submission,
21:57but eventually the pressure gets reversed and the move gets broken up when both men make it to the
22:01ropes. Back to the outside we go and this time it's Triple H leading the way. We go into the
22:06audience
22:07briefly where Rock stays on the back foot and by the time the two make it to the ring, Triple
22:11H is looking a lot
22:12better. With 40 minutes left on the clock, Hunter performs a suplex followed by an elbow drop and
22:17it's not long before the men are back on the outside where Triple H goes knee first into the
22:22ring steps. Back inside the ring, Rock pulls off a pretty great looking knee drop, we go to the mat
22:27once
22:27again for another quick rest before Rock gets up and he goes for another figure 4, but Triple H counters
22:33it and we see a pedigree. 25 minutes have passed and we're now at one apiece. And then, exactly one
22:40minute
22:40later, Triple H surprises Rocky with an inside cradle and Hunter scores another pinfall. It's now 2-1 in
22:47Triple H's favour but the fans inside Freedom Hall aren't giving up on Rock just yet. The two get up
22:53and
22:53they once again head to the rampway for a brawl, only this time they make it all the way up
22:57the entrance
22:58way with Rock taking control. A suplex quickly puts Rock back in his place but he answers with a back
23:03suplex.
23:04As the brawl on the ramp continues, HBK clarifies to the commentators that he's not going to count
23:09Rock or Hunter out because he wants them to keep fighting each other and yeah, good call because
23:14there would've been at least 5 countouts at this point. Thinking he's done enough damage, Rock brings
23:19Hunter back into the ring, but the air gets sucked out of the arena when Triple H performs a piledriver
23:25and he scores yet another point after pinning Rock. Hunter's now up 3-1, there's less than half an hour
23:31to go,
23:31and fans are now beginning to realise what I mentioned earlier. Hunter's ring style is way more suited for
23:37this kind of match. Rock's caught a serious uphill battle and Triple H isn't letting up,
23:47Sean has to pull his old friend away from the corner when Hunter gets a bit too vicious but this
23:51gives Rock a chance to fight back. Helmsley foolishly decides to go upstairs and just like his hero Ric Flair,
23:57the game goes flying, and Rock keeps the momentum up with a back elbow from the corner followed by
24:02a magistral cradle. This isn't enough to score a pinfall and Hunter keeps Rock at bay with a Harley
24:08race knee, and we then take another break as Hunter brings it all the way to the mat with a
24:12long sleeper
24:12hold. Triple H cheats by using the ropes for leverage, HBK has no allegiance to Triple H so he kicks
24:19the
24:19game's legs off the middle rope, and after this happens Hunter gets in Sean's face as the timer shows
24:24we've only got 20 minutes left. Rock continues to expand his moveset with a belly to belly suplex,
24:30this gets followed up with a DDT, and Rock scores a point after pinning Hunter. The WWF have went out
24:36of their way to make this a much more exciting Iron Man match in comparison to the last one at
24:40Mania 12,
24:41but both matches definitely have their own merits. Triple H has three falls, The Rock has two,
24:47and Rock thinks the best course of action is to take it back to the outside where he can really
24:51hurt his
24:52opponent before trying to earn another fall. This plan backfires when Hunter turns it around at the
24:57timekeeper's table, and the game then grabs a steel chair and he looks to put Rock away once and for
25:02all, but HBK takes the chair away from Hunter. If anything, Sean's been helping Rock out way more
25:08than his old DX teammate, and HBK shows he won't take any bullshit when Triple H uses the chair inside
25:14the ring. The chair shot leads to Hunter getting disqualified, and that means we're now three apiece.
25:19However, that chair shot's done some serious damage and right after being disqualified, Hemsley's able
25:25to successfully pin Rock while using the top rope for leverage. How Sean didn't see this is anyone's
25:30guess, but Hemsley's now up a point while Rock's being badly busted open. 15 minutes remain, and Hunter
25:36decides to use this time to bring Rock down to the mat with his sleeper hold. The blood loss should
25:41be
25:41enough to make Rock fade out, and after a second sleeper hold, that's exactly what happens. Rock fades away,
25:47he can't answer Sean, so Hemsley scores another point, and with only 12 minutes left, the game
25:52now has 5 falls total while Rock has 3. When Triple H refuses to let go of the sleeper, HBK
25:58forcefully
25:59pulls the challenger away. This results in Sean and Hunter getting in each other's faces and
26:03shoving each other around, but nothing else comes of it.
26:11Rock can do nothing but try to fight back. He's able to launch Hunter up and over the top turnbuckle,
26:16but when the match resumes in the ring, the great one goes down after a DDT. 10 minutes remain as
26:21the Rock stops another Triple H high risk move, and eventually Rock pulls off a superplex. Both
26:27guys look absolutely spent as Rock tries a back elbow, the toll of the match is definitely set in now,
26:33but we're going to go back outside and Rock's going to catapult Hunter into the ring post.
26:37JR says it'll be a miracle if Rock can get 2 falls, and do keep in mind that unlike Wrestlemania
26:4312,
26:44the champion will retain his championship here if the score ends up tied. There's to be no sudden
26:49death in this Ironman match. After throwing Rock into the ring steps, Triple H clears the announce
26:55table. We have 5 minutes on the clock as Hunter looks to insult Rock with a rock bottom, but Rock
27:00counters
27:00it and it's Hunter who gets humiliated when the champion performs a pedigree. The move busts Triple
27:05H open, and he's unable to make it back to the ring after the count of 10. So it's now
27:10Triple H
27:11with 5 falls, and Rock with 4. Sensing trouble could be afoot, the McMahon family make their way down the
27:16ramp with only 3.5 minutes left to go. Sean begins another 10 count but Hunter makes it into the
27:22ring.
27:22The Rock digs deep and he destroys Hunter with a clothesline from the corner followed by another DDT.
27:27Shane gets on the apron, he gets knocked down. Vince gets on the apron, he gets knocked down
27:33too. DX have to show up just as Rock delivers the people's elbow, and Rock scores another pinfall.
27:39Shane McMahon pulls HBK out of the ring, and Sean knocks both Shane and his dad to the floor,
27:44and this allows DX to hit the ring while the referee's busy on the outside. While DX go to work
27:50on Rock,
27:51and Shane hits Rock with a chair, that video plays on the titantron with the creepy girl saying that
27:56altered version of the As I lay me down to sleep prayer. And then, the fucking Undertaker makes
28:02his WWF return riding a motorcycle down to the ring. The last time we saw Undertaker he was showing a
28:08bit
28:08more of his biker side, but now it looks like he's fully changed his whole character, and he's even got
28:14new theme music, American Badass by Kid Rock. The Undertaker beats everyone up, DX get wiped out,
28:21Shane McMahon gets chokeslammed. With 30 seconds left on the clock, Vince McMahon gets floored,
28:26and Taker follows up with a chokeslam the X-Pac. After taking out the Road Dog, The Undertaker gets
28:31greeted by Stephanie McMahon. The American Badass goes to chokeslam Little Miss McMahon, but he gets
28:37stopped by Triple H. With 5 seconds left on the clock, The Undertaker chokeslams Triple H, and HBK saw
28:44it hopping. The buzzer goes off, the signal of fault has been awarded, Hunter gets the final point as
28:49the Rock gets disqualified, in just for good measure, the phenom tombstones Hunter, but the match is over.
28:55Sean confirms the hard finkel that Triple H is being awarded the final fall and the match,
29:00and that means Triple H is the new WWF champion. The timing could've been a bit tighter here,
29:06but it doesn't take away from the pretty exciting finish. The fans though aren't happy when Hunter
29:11is announced as the new champion, and neither is The Undertaker. The show ends with Taker stalking Sean
29:17back up the rampway, even though HBK did call it right down the middle, and the McMahon-Hemsley
29:22regime leave with Triple H in tow along with the WWF championship belt.
29:30A fantastic show here from the WWF, and it really doesn't feel like the main event goes for 60 minutes,
29:36it's so fun that the time just flies by. Folks could say the whole match was overbooked,
29:41but I think that's really only the case when compared to the Sean vs Bret match from Wrestlemania in 1996.
29:48This 60 minute match between Rock and Hunter really does capture what the Attitude Arrow is all about,
29:53and both men put on a fantastic marathon match while still looking like they could go a bit longer.
29:58I'll be honest, I was dreading covering this main event because it looked like hard work,
30:03but I thoroughly enjoyed watching and writing about Rock vs Triple H, and I found a new appreciation for it
30:09thanks to watching it again while taking notes. A great show that once again was better than Risa
30:15Mania 2000, The Undertaker's back, Triple H is WWF champion once again, Raw's gonna be good next week
30:21and I can't wait to cover it for reliving the war. I'll see you all on Thursday as usual, so
30:27until then, please take care.
