00:05Welcome to WCW Spring Stampede 2000, the first pay-per-view presented by the new WCW under
00:11Vince Russo and Eric Bischoff. The war between the New Blood and the Millionaires Club truly
00:16begins the night as a series of tournaments take place to crown new company champions.
00:2012,500 are inside the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. 115,000 have bought the show on
00:26pay-per-view which is a huge improvement over last month's uncensored show and this proves
00:31that there is interest in this new company-engrossing storyline. Tony Schiavone lets us know that
00:36Eric Bischoff and Vince Russo have relaxed the rules tonight, we're going to see fights
00:41in the ring while the referees have been told to ease up on disqualifications. No doubt this
00:45will get contradicted at some point but we'll wait and see what happens.
00:49The intrigue of a pay-per-view under the new WCW creative regime is enough to keep me interested
00:54even if I'm not a fan of tournament shows. We have a US title tournament and a tag team
00:59title tournament to get through tonight plus we're going to crown a new world champion.
01:03Let's see what went down and let's hope it's at least an entertaining show.
01:08One final thing, I highly recommend checking out episode 231 of Reliving the War before you
01:13continue on here. You really will get a lot more out of this event if you understand the
01:17backstory that was all put into place on the last episode of Nitro. I won't be going
01:22over what happened on Monday night in this video because it's already been covered, so please
01:26take the time to check out Reliving the War 231 so you're all up to date.
01:34Eric Bischoff stressing out about Hulk Hogan backstage. Hogan signed himself out of hospital
01:40after the Hummer attack and Eric's worried that Hogan's going to show up. Kidman tells
01:44Eric not to worry, all the boys have to do is fire up the Hummer again and take Hogan out
01:48for good. Sounds like a great plan. Team Package are competing in our opening match
01:52against the Mamaluks, this is a semi-final match in the tag team title tournament. In
01:57seeing as Rick's expecting a street fight, he didn't bother wearing his gear tonight,
02:01styling and profiling. Flair and Luger represent the Millionaires Club, they know Russo, Bischoff
02:06and the New Blood want them out for good, but the Nature Boy isn't going down without
02:10a fight. After the competitors make their entrances, Russo makes an appearance and in order to stack
02:15the deck against Team Package, he's adding another team to this match. This is now a 4 on 2 bout
02:21as the Harris brothers join the Mamaluks. And it does make you wonder what would happen
02:25if Team Package takes a loss here, I mean does that mean the Mamaluks and the Harris brothers
02:30go through to the next round? It doesn't matter anyway because Team Package won. The whole
02:34match consisted of Flair and Luger taking a beating, Disco Inferno also notably got taken
02:39away from ringside by two random dudes, no idea what that's all about. But we've already
02:45got some problems within the New Blood. The Harris brothers and the Mamaluks, two teams
02:49who were in a rivalry before last weeks reboot, began fighting with each other and because
02:53the two teams couldn't coexist, Team Package was able to score a submission victory. JTB
02:58gave up when Lex put him in the torture rack. What I took away from this opening match was
03:03how the fans reacted. I know Russo and Bischoff detractors don't want to hear it but the
03:08crowd was very very lively throughout this contest and this is something that's been missing
03:13from WCW pay-per-views for a long time. The match was nothing special, it was a mess but
03:19the crowd definitely enjoyed it, so even with the early New Blood shenanigans going on, I still
03:24think this one was perfectly fine for a pay-per-view opener, it served its purpose well. Backstage,
03:29Mean Gene's with WCW's newest signee, Mike Awesome, and Gene informs us that Mike's
03:34competing in the US title tournament tonight. Awesome's going to face Ernest Miller in the
03:38first round, but Mike gets interrupted by Bam Bam Bigelow who calls him a jabroni. The moment
03:43Bigelow turns his back, Awesome launches an attack, so Mike isn't making many friends
03:48upon his WCW debut.
03:54Man Cow Mike had a match next against Jimmy Hart, this is an eye for an eye match, it means
04:00nothing. And Jimmy brings an insurance policy with him to the ring, Emery Hale. Emery was
04:05Jimmy's boy, and hard thought Emery could one day draw big money working against Hulk Hogan.
04:10Yeah, that didn't work out by the way. Jimmy's also wearing a Howard Stern shirt saying as
04:14he called Man Cow a Stern wannabe, and I'm sorry everyone, I have absolutely zero interest
04:20in this match, and even at that, if I had any kind of interest, I already know it's not
04:25going to be good. Man Cow brings out random women, because Vince Russo, and he also brings
04:31out his entourage that includes Al Roker Jr, Freak, and Turd the bartender. Look, I know
04:37I don't get the jokes because I have no prior knowledge as to who Man Cow Mike is and I
04:41know
04:42absolutely nothing about his work, but that's the problem most of the world would have when
04:46watching this show, isn't it? It's a matchbook for a very niche and very specific audience.
04:52Man Cow calls Jimmy a piece of shit, he sucks up to the Chicago audience, he attacks Jimmy
04:57from behind and… yeah, look at it. Man Cow stops his attack when Hale gets on the apron,
05:03this allows Jimmy to hit a low blow. What follows is some more pretty embarrassing offense as
05:08Jimmy tries to get physical, and yeah, this should not have been put on TV, nevermind
05:12a pay per view. I don't give a shit how popular or unpopular this Man Cow dude was, fans had
05:18to actually pay to see this. Eventually, Hale gets in the ring and he press slams Man Cow over
05:23the top rope and onto his entourage. Credit where it's due, Mr Cow and his crew took the
05:28bump well. Insane as the referee took a bump, Jimmy's unable to get a pinfall win when
05:33Man Cow gets put back inside the ring. Man Cow grabs a chair, he hits Jimmy from behind,
05:38the radio DJ defeats Jimmy Hart via pinfall, and it was terrible. A terrible match that could
05:43only appeal to a small subsection of fans. I know the Chicago audience liked Man Cow, I
05:48know this is his home turf, but WCW really needed to focus on the bigger picture during this
05:53reboot and this is not it chief. After the bout, Billy Kidman came out to attack Jimmy, Kidman
05:59and Hogan are in a rivalry right now and this is Billy's way of sending a message to wood
06:04from the hood. A bad night for Jimmy Hart at Spring Stampede.
06:10Russo's angry at the mumalukes and the Harris brothers, they had a 4 on 2 advantage and they
06:15still blew it. Vince tells these guys to get out of his face before throwing a hissy fit,
06:19lighten up man, jeez. Next up, it's Scottie Steiner vs The Wall in a US title tournament
06:25match. Two members of the new blood right here, so Bischoff and Russo wanna make sure that one
06:30of their guys progresses in the tournament seeing as Sting's the only member of the Millionaires
06:34Club who's competing in this tournament. Kinda weird hearing Steinerized again as Scott
06:39makes his entrance, Scott hated this music but I think it's awesome, admittedly though
06:44it doesn't suit him during this era. Scott takes the early advantage, something that surprises
06:48the commentators seeing as The Wall was an unstoppable monster just before the reboot.
06:53Wall does fight back briefly, nothing particularly exciting. What is exciting is a belly to belly
06:58suplex from Big Papa Pump though as Scott goes back in control. The Wall delivers a low blow,
07:03and the commentators remind us that the referees have been told to relax the rules tonight.
07:07This gets followed up with a big boot before Wall delivers a chokebomb. The more I think
07:12about this whole relaxing the rules thing, I actually think it's a pretty bad idea, because
07:17it just means absolutely anything can happen, and it's an easy excuse for chaos. Relaxed
07:23rules doesn't necessarily mean no disqualification, so a member of the Millionaires Club could potentially
07:28still get disqualified if Russo and Bischoff deem it worthy. It's kinda lazy writing when
07:33you think about it. Wall gets dropped on the top rope before the two head outside. Scott gets
07:38launched into the guardrail before Wall grabs a table from underneath the ring. The two
07:42have a scuffle, and Scott's able to blind wall by raking his eyes, and Scott puts the referee
07:47in front of him which leads to a visibly impaired wall chokeslamming Slick Johnson through the
07:51furniture. Another referee runs down, he calls for a DQ, and the match gets awarded to Scotty
07:57Steiner. So yeah, point proven, we have no idea how relaxed the rules truly are, and as mentioned,
08:03it just opens the doors for random match outcomes just like this one. It's not great, is it?
08:14Bam Bam Bigelow attacks Ernest Miller backstage, Bigelow wants to face Mike Awesome, so he takes
08:19the cat out and he replaces him in our next US title tournament match. Bigelow attacks Awesome
08:25during Mike's entrance, and this is all absolutely fine and dandy according to Mike Madden. In
08:30this new WCW, you're apparently encouraged to take opportunities like this when they present
08:35themselves. So tell me, why wouldn't other people get attacked and replaced before their
08:39matches and we'll just have a big fucking free for all? If there's no rules and there's
08:44no order, then all you're left with is chaos, and that's what we've witnessed already in
08:49three of our four matches so far, we've had the Harris brothers join a tag team match,
08:54we've had a disqualification when the commentators hammered home how the rules were relaxed for
08:58tonight's pay per view, and now we've got a replacement competitor moments before the
09:02match takes place. The two brawl on the outside before getting in the ring, the action here is
09:07very brief and Bigelow gets sent back out after a clothesline, Awesome follows him with
09:12a dive over the top rope, more brawling on the outside leads to Bam Bam getting dumped
09:16over the barrier, and Mike shows off more agility when he dives over the guardrail for a forearm
09:21shot. As much as I'm not enjoying how this pay per view is already playing out, I, nor
09:26anyone else can really deny how good it is to see Mike Awesome do his thing and he keeps
09:31it up when the two head back inside the ropes. His dive and clothesline looks good and there's
09:35something great about seeing these kind of moves from a bonafide heavyweight. The way Awesome
09:40moves for someone his size is truly a sight to behold. Bigelow fights back, he's able
09:45to perform his diving headbutt, and that's when we get brought back to the reality of
09:49this new WCW. Ernest Miller gets in the ring, he delivers a standing sidekick, and this is
09:55not grounds for disqualification. Miller grabs a microphone, he says he's going to dance
10:00for the people after putting on his ruby slippers, and yeah, we get a little dance in the middle
10:05of the match, a match that I thought the kit was no longer part of. Awesome stops Miller
10:10with a hard clothesline, he then goes up top, we see a big splash from Mike Awesome which
10:15again admittedly looked insanely good, and… Mike pins Miller to win the match. I thought
10:21Ernest didn't bap… you know what, forget about it. I will say this though, at least
10:27it's different. It feels like there's gonna be moment after moment we can pick apart during
10:32this pay per view, which at least gives me something to talk about.
10:37Eric Bischoff still stressing out about Hulk Hogan showing up. Kidman and Russo tell Eric
10:42to relax, but after what Kidman did to Jimmy Hart, Eric's certain that the Hulkster is
10:46gonna appear at Spring Stampede. Buff Bagwell and Shane Douglas get interviewed backstage,
10:51they say it's all about the new blood now, and Shane says Space Mountain is officially closed
10:56as of tonight. That limo riding jet flying bullshit is now over, and it's now time for the new
11:01blood. Shane and Buff need to beat Harlem Heat 2000 in order to get a match against Team Package,
11:07and that match is coming up next. We get the usual four man brawl to kick this one off,
11:12and it settles down to Stevie Ray and Douglas. Shane's quick to tag out after Stevie misses
11:16an elbow drop, and when Buff gets in he puts Stevie down with a swinging neckbreaker. I really
11:21don't care, I just wanna see big titties get in the ring to see if there's any kind of improvement
11:25whatsoever. A blind tag brings Ahmed in, and yeah, his spinebuster looks spot on, we'll
11:31take these small victories where we can. Bagwell performs a Vader bomb, both competitors then
11:36do the slow crawl back to their corners. Douglas and Stevie get tagged in, and Shane has to
11:41deal with Stevie and Big T while Cash takes care of Buff on the outside. Our match ends
11:46with Big T taking a low blow while the referee was busy shouting at Stevie Ray. Shane goes for
11:51the Pittsburgh plunge on Stevie, but it looked more like a fisherman suplex. Still, this
11:55is enough to score Shane and Buff to win, and that means these two are gonna face Team Package
11:59in the tournament final. Stevie and Big T have words after the bell. Sore balls or not, Ahmed
12:05really should've and could've broken up Shane's pin, but it looks like Harlem Heat 2000 could
12:11be breaking up very soon and I say that's a good thing. This team's been dead in the water
12:15and it's benefited absolutely no one. Speaking of Booker, the man himself competes next, he's
12:21in the US title tournament, and he's gonna face Sting. Booker's part of the new blood,
12:26but that doesn't mean he likes Bischoff and Russo. He says Eric's been on his bag after
12:30what happened on Nitro, but right now Book's focusing on the task at hand, beating Sting
12:35and advancing in the US title tournament. So, it's another new blood vs millionaires club
12:39match, and the match booking so far does make you realise how seriously outnumbered the millionaires
12:44club truly is. Not just in this title tournament, but just in general. I already talked on reliving
12:50the war about the strange paradox the new blood faction has created when it comes to babyface
12:54roles and heel roles within the company, but it feels like the balance is all messed up,
12:59and it's not helped by the fact that members of the millionaires club are not legally obliged
13:03nor contracted to appear on as many shows as their new blood rivals. New blood vs new blood
13:09matches are inevitable and unavoidable, but sorry, I'm blubbering on a bit. These two seem
13:14to be on good enough terms, no underhanded tactics in the early going, Sting avoids a clothesline
13:20and a backhander, he delivers a body slam and a clothesline of his own, Booker gets sent
13:24out of the ring, and he gets sent into a crew member sitting beside the barrier. The two
13:29end up fighting at the commentary table and the stinger gets dropped on it, and when the
13:33two get back in the ring, Booker performs a back elbow that only gets him a two. A spring
13:37stampede chinlock makes the price of admission totally worth it no matter how crazy this show's
13:42been so far, and Booker follows up with a knee to the midsection and a knee to the face.
13:46Chinlock number 2 brings spring stampede ever so closer to being the best WCW pay per view
13:51of the year, and even though Sting's able to escape, Booker follows up with an axe kick.
13:55Booker's looking real good here, but he gets frustrated when Sting kicks out. Booker misses
14:01a harlem sidekick, Sting takes advantage with a DDT, when the two get to their feet we see
14:05a stinger splash, but Book stops a second with a kick to the gut. The match then ends when
14:10Sting counters a suplex attempt and we see the scorpion death drop, and yes, best match
14:14of the night so far, just two guys showing what they could do inside the ring and doing
14:19so at a high level. After the bout, Booker brings Sting back inside the ropes, he shows
14:24respect with a fist bump, so already we're seeing new blood guys getting along with members
14:29of the millionaires club.
14:36Once again, we see how stressed out Eric Bischoff is when he and Kidman get interviewed by Mean
14:41Gene. Kidman says he'll send Hogan back to the hospital if he does decide to show up
14:45tonight, and yeah, after three backstage promos, we get it, Bischoff's afraid of Hogan.
14:50Kidman comes out for his US title match, another New Blood vs New Blood bout against Vampiro.
14:56On Monday Nitro, Vampiro turned on Sting, so after being in charge for just one week, Bischoff
15:01and Russo have tried to bring both Kidman and Vampiro to the promised land. Vampiro's
15:06feuding with the icon Sting, and Kidman's in a feud with the immortal Hulk Hogan.
15:10The potential for this match is pretty huge, but I'd be shocked if some shenanigans don't
15:15happen right here. A belly to belly suplex from Vampiro gets followed up with a diving clothesline,
15:20Billy Kidman comes in with a hurricanrana followed by a dropkick, Kidman then tries a few
15:25mounted punches in the corner but Vamp counters with a seriously impressive release powerbomb,
15:30but old vampyballs makes the mistake of trying a standard powerbomb on Billy Kidman. Kidman
15:35performs his slingshot leg drop, Vampiro kicks out of two, Madden comments that we could've
15:39seen this match years ago if the Millionaires Club stepped out of the way, and I guess he's
15:44forgetting that this match actually happened a few months ago in LA during an episode of
15:48Nitro. But sure, small details, right Mark? A suplex from Vampiro gets followed up with a
15:53uranage, the dumb shit tries another powerbomb and predictable results ensue. A front spin
15:59kick isn't enough to keep Billy down either, so Vampiro changes his match tactics and he
16:03goes for an arm breaker. They've lost the crowd here a little unfortunately and the audience
16:08isn't making much noise. A bit of a shame because so far this match has been alright.
16:12Kidman delivers a DDT and that's when the shenanigans begin. We cut to the backstage area,
16:17and Hulk Hogan has arrived at Spring Stampede. Again, to give credit, the crowd pops when Hogan
16:23shows up and they pop again when Hulk begins making his way down the ringside. Madden says
16:27Hogan's only here to collect his pay per view bonus and yeah, good point. Hogan is getting
16:32his pay per view bonus by just showing up tonight but if WCW were stupid enough to pay him so
16:37much
16:37money then Hogan's just right for taking advantage of it. Hogan dumps Kidman out of the ring by the
16:42neck and on the outside, wood from the hood gets vicious. Kinda funny how Billy's newblood
16:46teammate has absolutely no interest in helping him out and this is another problem with having
16:51so many newblood members. Logically, there's too few members in the millionaires club and
16:56all it would take is for everyone to gang up on the old timers simply because of their strength
16:59in numbers, but instead we get moments like this where the newblood just sit back and let
17:03their teammates take a beating, it just doesn't make sense. The beatdown ends with Billy taking
17:08a chokebomb from the ring steps onto the announce table. The table doesn't break and so Hogan
17:13has to follow up with a body slam. Hogan then puts Kidman back in the ring, he tells Vampiro
17:18to cover Billy, the rules have been relaxed ladies and gents, so there's no DQ. Vampiro goes
17:23on to the semi-finals. Hogan grabs a microphone, he calls Bischoff a son of a bitch before going
17:29on the hunt for Eazy-E. Vince Russo tells Eric not to worry about it, Russo's
17:33gonna take care of it, and we then cut to Hogan walking around backstage throwing tables around
17:38while asking everyone where Eric Bischoff is. Finally, Hogan's able to find Eric's office
17:43and Bischoff shits a brick. Hogan's just about to lay a beatdown into his former brother,
17:48but then Russo brings a bunch of cops into the room and Hogan gets stopped. They even draw
17:53their weapons at wood from the hood. It's a shoot brother, you've literally worked yourself
17:58into a shoot Mr Hogan. But, I mean, is this necessary? Do the boys in blue need their shooters because
18:05the 24 inch pythons are so deadly? Hogan gets arrested and brought out of the arena, and
18:11we then segue into our hardcore title match as Terry Taylor tells Terry Funk where he can
18:16find Norman Smiley.
18:21Guys, I don't know how much more of this wacky shit I can take. Terry Funk walks into the catering
18:27area, he asks everyone where Norman Smiley is, we've got about 30 or 40 stooges all pointing
18:32to the restroom, and so Terry heads to the toilets looking for Mr Smiley. We hear Norman scream
18:38before we actually see him, so Terry launches an attack and the match begins. When the two leave
18:43the toilets, Funk uses a fire extinguisher on screaming Norman, our main man also takes a
18:48body slam on the table, and I'm just realising that I don't want either man to lose this
18:53match. Two absolute heroes right here going to war.
18:57A lot of coca cola gets wasted as Terry dumps a fridge worth all over screaming Norman, and
19:01I say good job, that shit's not good for ya. Norman gets brought to the kitchen and Terry
19:06gives his opponent a little wash, we then get a fight in the cooking area with Norman getting
19:10the better of Terry after a trash can shot, and when the two leave, Terry gets put in a
19:15trash can. This little spot couldn't have looked any more perfect. Terry then hits Norman
19:20with a laptop right in the head and the sound it makes is pretty insane. Absolutely no mercy
19:25tonight from the dirty Funker. Norman tries to escape up a ladder and he screams while holding
19:30onto some pipes on the ceiling, so Terry sets the table up and the hardcore champion falls
19:34through it after a chair shot. You guys know me by now, I'm not big into hardcore matches,
19:40but this one has been good so far. Chairs come into play as the two walk and brawl from the
19:45backstage area to the spring stampede rampway. Funk's now putting his hands up when taking
19:50chair shots thankfully, and I don't blame him either, this company is not worth punishing
19:54yourself over. The two get in the ring, we see some shuffle action from screaming Norman,
19:59Funk gets his head slammed into a chair in preparation for some more dancing, but this was the
20:04mistake seeing as Norman takes a chair shot mid-wiggle. The match ends with Terry looking to bring
20:09a ladder into the ring, but Dustin Rhodes shows up. Norman stays on the outside as Dustin hits
20:14Terry with a chair shot before delivering a pile driver on the chair. And these fans,
20:18who seconds ago were very much into this match, have gone completely silent. Dustin takes a
20:24rough looking bump on the ladder when Terry fights back. Norman also gets taken out and Terry
20:28decides to drop the ladder right on top of Norman from the ring to the outside. This allows
20:33the dirty funker to win the match and the hardcore championship, and yeah, no complaints here.
20:38Not a fan of the interference, but for a WCW hardcore match, I thought this one passed expectations.
20:44Vince Russo isn't happy with Booker T showing Sting some respect earlier on after their match,
20:50so Russo wants Booker to do him some sort of favour. I'm sure we'll find out more in
20:54just a moment. Scott Steiner and Mike Awesome met next in a US title semi-final tournament match,
21:00in what should have been a great match between two pretty unique performers, was pissed away
21:04in about three minutes. Whereas Mike was given a few opportunities to show off what he could do
21:08earlier on, he wasn't given many opportunities in this matchup. Scottie controlled about early on,
21:14he actually made it look easy. And even though Awesome was able to pull off a slingshot shoulder
21:19tackle, followed by his diving clothesline, he wasn't able to put Scott away. Big Papa Pump comes back
21:24with a low blow, he follows up with a belly to belly suplex, a middle rope back elbow brings
21:29Mike back into it, and our match ended when Awesome went upstairs. Big sexy Kevin Nash made
21:34an appearance and he broke a crutch over Awesome's back, a little payback here for what happened
21:39on Nitro. Nash also tells Scott to suck it, showing here that he's no longer aligned with
21:44his former NWO teammate, but Scott still wins the match following a Steiner recliner. Scott's
21:50now in the US title tournament finals and we're about to find out who he's gonna face when
21:54Sting takes on Vampiro, but before we get to that, Vince Russo's seen backstage giving
21:59Dustin Rhodes a hard time, saying as Rhodes was unable to put Terry Funk out of commission.
22:04Russo says Dustin would be nothing without him, Russo reminds him that he was the one who
22:08created Goldust and the only time Dustin was someone was when he portrayed the Goldust
22:13character. Booker tries to calm everyone down, but Vince Russo fires Dustin before leaving
22:18the room. But this is pretty dumb too, seeing as, well think about it, couldn't Russo just
22:23fire anyone he doesn't like, including members of the Millionaires Club?
22:32The brothers in paint explode, kind of. It's time for Sting to take on Vampiro. Both our spooky
22:38boys make their way down to the ring and the stinger wastes no time sprinting down the ramp
22:42to get at Vampiro. He's met with a spinning heel kick and old vampyballs keeps up the attack
22:47in the corner. He keeps the advantage as Sting hasn't even gotten his fancy jacket off yet,
22:52a jacket which seemed to be more of a hindrance than we thought because as soon as he takes
22:56it off he starts to no-sell Vamp's offence, and now the stinger takes control. After a
23:01few shots in the corner, the fight spills to the outside and Vampiro takes a chair shot
23:05across the back before the two men head back inside the ropes. Sting connects with a body
23:10slam and he follows up with a top rope splash but it only gets him a two. Back to the
23:14outside
23:15we go, Sting misses a stinger splash and he crashes into the guard rail. Vampiro scores
23:20with a standing sidekick before we get back inside the ring. Vampyballs heads up top but
23:25there seems to be a miscommunication here as he just ends up jumping down and instead he
23:29sends Sting to the mat with a jumping shoulder block. Sorta sums up this whole show so far,
23:34eh? Vampiro drops the leg brother and he follows up with a back suplex. Vamp heads up top again
23:40and I bet he wishes he didn't as the attempted spot gets horribly blown. It looked like Sting
23:45was supposed to catch him off the ropes and counter with a death lock but the two lads
23:48just crash into each other and they fall on their asses. To cover this up, Sting immediately
23:54hits a scorpion death drop and he locks in the death lock for the top out win, so Sting's
23:58heading to the finals of the US title tournament. Sting clearly didn't think too much of this
24:03match as he heads back up the ramp and I don't blame him. Both Vampiro and Sting had better
24:08matches earlier in the evening and there were quite a few little hiccups during this bout,
24:12most of which were timing related. Moving on, we're gonna crown a new cruiserweight champion
24:17through the medium of a six pack challenge. Two thirds of three can't make their way
24:21out and yeah, I'm disappointed that Evan isn't here either. They're about to grace
24:25us with the tune but the rest of the competitors in this match won't let that happen as they
24:29all rush to the ring. Phyllis Stine's the lot of them. So yeah, we have Shannon Moore,
24:33Lash LaRue, Crowbar, The Artist, Chris Candido and Hooventud vying for the vegan title. Not
24:39only do we have 6 men in this match but we've also got a further 3 valets on the outside,
24:44so strap in for some shenanigans guys and gals. The ring eventually gets cleared and we have
24:49Candido and Shannon briefly squaring off. It seems no tags are necessary as Crowbar comes
24:54in to deliver a Northern Light suplex and a slingshot leg drop to Mr Hard Knocks. A dancey
25:00clothesline from Lash gets a 2 as does his whiplash finisher. Joventud then comes in and he's
25:05able to avoid a whiplash. He then scores with a Hoovie driver for a near fall. The artist
25:10then eats a bulldog, not literally, while Candido takes a suplex from Lash on the floor. Daphne
25:16makes her way up top and she looks to deliver a Frankensteiner to Hoovie but he moves out of
25:20the way and Crowbar takes the move. Hoovie, the champion of women everywhere, then tries to
25:25hit Daphne with a Hoovie driver but Crowbar comes to the rescue. Lash ends up wiping them
25:30both out with a plancha anyway so it didn't really matter. The artist then gets in on the
25:34act with a dive of his own as does Hoovie with a crossbody to the outside, and Shannon
25:39also joins the party after getting backdropped over the ropes onto Lash. Shane and David Flair
25:43then have a quick boogie before they scrap to the outside, the only two left in the ring
25:48are the artist and Candido, and Chris misses a diving headbutt before getting put down again
25:52with a Samoan drop. Paisley slides a chair in as the artist goes for his middle rope DDT,
25:57but some woman in her pajamas pushes the artist off the ropes onto the chair and Candido picks
26:02up the scraps to become the new cruiserweight champion. Sunny days are upon WCW as Tammy
26:08Sidge makes her debut to align with Chris Candido. This match went for just over 5 minutes, that's
26:14less than the number of participants who competed. The whole thing was a giant cluster and if you
26:19ever want to see a match that defines get your shit in, then this is it. Oh yeah, after the
26:25match Paisley and Tommy have a catfight, if any of you deviants are into that sort of thing.
26:34We've reached the finals of the tag team title tournament, it's team package vs Buff Bagwell
26:39and Shane Douglas. Looks like we have an interested observer for this one as Vince Russo accompanies
26:44buffing Shane down to the ring for this title match, and he's got his trusty baseball bat.
26:50Russo decides to bless our ears with his dulcet tones as he jumps on commentary, all while
26:54Shane Douglas talks smack to the nature boy. Buff offers a handshake to Luger, no doubt
26:59showing that he wants a clean, sportsmanlike contest, but Luger decides to kick Buff in
27:03the midsection. Bagwell quickly turns it around and Luger goes down after a clothesline. Buff
27:09decides this would be a great time to pose, but alas Mr Bagwell, it is not. Lex scores
27:14with a clothesline of his own and a body slam before Buff goes to the eyes before tagging
27:18in the franchise. Douglas keeps the advantage as the commentary team discuss the history
27:22between Shane and Flair, but Lex is able to turn the tide with a gorilla press slam that
27:27sends Shane scomper into the floor. Flair gets the tag and he goes after Shane, the franchise
27:32gets wrecked on the outside, but back in the ring a thumb to the eyes stops the nature boy's
27:37offense. Bagwell comes back in and Flair gets caught in the lights with a backdrop, Madden
27:42rips into Flair for ducking Shane for all these years and Tony yells bullshit. I just thought
27:47I'd point that out because Madden got hot about it a bit later on. Douglas and Buff remain
27:52in control by keeping Flair away from Luger. Rick gets a reprieve though after a clash of
27:57heads but he isn't able to make the tag. Instead, he goes for the old Ray Stevens corner
28:02spot and Flair messes it up. Jesus Christ. So to cover for this, Shane delivers some mounted
28:08punches in the corner while screaming F you Flair into the camera which did make me laugh
28:13to be fair. They repeat the spot and this time it works out, but Package is able to clothesline
28:18Douglas from the apron and both legal men are now down. Flexi Lexi gets the tag and he runs
28:23wild on Bagwell and Douglas much to the ambivalence of the crowd. Flair then locks in a figure 4 to
28:29Shane despite neither man being legal, and this causes Russo to drop his headset and stand
28:33by the ring as Buff breaks the hold. Bagwell goes for the blockbuster, Douglas holds Flair
28:38in place, but heel buffoonery ensues as Buff wipes out his partner. Flair covers Shane,
28:43again despite neither man being legal, but Russo pulls our referee out. Russo and Nick Patrick
28:49get into a shoving match on the outside all while two rather large men enter the ring.
28:54It's Bryan Adams, not that one, and Bryan Clark. They take Luger out with a double chokeslam
29:00and it's the debut of chronic ladies and gents. Russo puts the referee shirt on, kinda,
29:06and he makes the count as Buff covers Luger, and with that we have new world tag team champions,
29:11the duo of Shane Douglas and Buff Bagwell. We don't even get to see a celebration, a replay
29:16or anything of that sort as we immediately cut backstage the mean gene who's with big
29:21pop a pump. He says Scott represents the new blood in this US title tournament final against
29:26Sting, but Steiner says he represents himself and no one else. Really? He then tells Gene
29:32to find the Stinger and to tell him that his ass belongs to Scott Steiner.
29:40Mean Gene does indeed locate Sting when the icon gets interviewed seconds later. He looks a bit
29:45shelved, but he says WCW's blood runs through the Millionaire Club's veins. If Russo and Bischoff want
29:52a war, they've got one. The crowd are a little more excited for this one as the competitors get
29:57them heated up a bit before the bout, and we start with Sting nailing Scott with two dropkicks before
30:01Scott heads to the outside. Scott looks for a timeout but instead he gets the Stinger launching
30:06himself over the top rope, but Sting gets too confident and his top rope splash fails to do any damage.
30:12Scott delivers a press slam, a clothesline and an elbow drop, and when Sting kicks out of two,
30:17the big bad booty daddy gets in the referee's face. This would terrify anyone. Scott delivers an
30:23exploder suplex before going out to jawjack a few rowdy fans, the fans quickly back down because
30:29they're a bunch of pussies, and back in the ring, Scott begins to fight back with two clotheslines.
30:34The icon looks to end it, he delivers a Stinger splash before looking for another,
30:38Steiner pulls the referee in and the ref takes all the impact, but Sting wants to keep going
30:43and he goes for one more corner splash. It's here when Vampiro appears from underneath the ring,
30:48Sting does his best to fight back but he quickly gets pulled down. Sting vanishes,
30:53Steiner has no idea what to do, but then he re-emerges with a bloody mouth and this one is
30:59over,
31:00ladies and gents. Vampiro serves Sting on a silver platter, Scott applies a Steiner recliner,
31:05the icon's out cold and so Scotty becomes the new US Champion. That means the new blood has won two
31:11tournaments tonight. And yes, I know Scott said he doesn't represent the new blood, but he actually
31:16does for now. After the bout, Tony Schiavone makes note of how crazy this show's been so far,
31:22he says he has no idea what's going to happen in our main event, but the way things have went
31:27so far,
31:27there's no doubt that some sort of nonsense is going to go down when DDP faces Jeff Jarrett for the
31:32world
31:32championship. Jeff Jarrett was handed a world title opportunity on Nitro by Russo and Bischoff.
31:42To determine who would face Jarrett for the vacant world championship, a tournament was held on Nitro
31:47featuring Lex Luger, DDP, Sting and Sid Vicious. DDP would win the tournament and he was all set to
31:53face Jarrett tonight at the pay-per-view, but things then got personal when Jeff broke a guitar over
31:58Kimberly's head. So Page isn't just looking for the world title, he wants revenge for his wife.
32:03To WCW's credit, they make this feel big by showing both men's entire walkouts from the locker room to
32:09the ring. DDP represents the Millionaires Club tonight and he's the clear fan favourite in Chicago,
32:14and as our match gets underway, Dallas starts off aggressively. He controls the bout with an inverted
32:19atomic drop followed by a jumping DDT, and on the outside he holds Jeff in position so Kimberly can
32:25smack double j across the face. We then go for a brawl through the audience, which makes my job a
32:30lot
32:30easier, I guess. Absolutely nothing to talk about here. DDP does take a little break and he has a
32:36drink, but that drink gets spat out after a low blow. When the two get back over the guard rail,
32:41Jarrett uses Kimberly as a shield. It pays off too when he punches Dallas right on the jaw. Page is
32:46able
32:46to swing it right back in his favour though when the two get back inside the ropes and Jeff goes
32:50down
32:50after a close line. Dallas goes upstairs, he gets his wee diamond smashed on the top rope as a few
32:56fans in the arena show off their hairy bums. Double J performs a superplex and then Jarrett goes to the
33:02outside to grab a steel chair. Robinson tries to stop Double J from using the weapon but it's no good.
33:08Page takes two shots across the back and finally Charles says enough's enough. The chair gets taken
33:13away, the match continues on, and Dallas' lower back is now the main target. Remember, DDP's returning
33:20from a back injury. A back elbow buys Dallas a little time and he's able to pull off a sit
33:25down
33:25powerbomb. It's at this moment we see Eric Bischoff standing at the rampway, so yes, we're going to
33:30see some sort of interference during this match. Of course we are. A brawl outside the ring takes place
33:36that sees Jarrett remain in control, and Double J even takes the time to rip up a copy of Dallas'
33:41book
33:41that a fan brought to the show. Kimberly tries to help her husband and this gives Dallas the opportunity
33:46to fight back, Jeff gets rammed into the ring post and when the match gets back in the ring,
33:50DDP is able to fire up a little. When Page goes for the diamond cutter though, Jeff holds onto the
33:55ropes, and the referee gets smacked in the face which allows Jeff to grab the world title. If the
34:00rules were relaxed and if chair shots were fine earlier, why do we need a blind referee? DDP takes a
34:06belt shot, though he still kicks out of two, so Bischoff begins walking to the ring as Jarrett
34:11applies the figure four. Kimberly grabs Jarrett's guitar, she slowly walks around the ring as Page
34:16tries to fight out of the figure four, the move eventually gets broken up and Dallas tries to put
34:21Jeff away with a uranage, it only gets a two. Jarrett applies a sleeper, this gets countered with a
34:26fantastic looking sleeper slam from Dallas, Bischoff then gets on the apron to distract the referee,
34:31and Dallas pulls off a diamond cutter on double J. With the referee still distracted, Page tells Kim
34:37to get in the ring with Jarrett's guitar, but this was a mistake. Kim turns on Dallas,
34:42she smacks her husband with said guitar, and this is how our match ends ladies and gents. Jarrett delivers
34:47the stroke to Diamond Dallas Page and after so many attempts over the past few months, Jeff Jarrett is
34:53the new WCW World Heavyweight Champion. Kimberly and Bischoff embrace in the ring, Russo, Bagwell,
34:59Douglas Steiner and Chris Candido get in the ring too just to solidify that the new blood has now got
35:04every championship in the company, and our show ends with Double J celebrating his big main event victory.
35:14If you're looking for a traditional wrestling show, this isn't it. It's gonna annoy you quite
35:19a bit if you're looking something traditional, but that's simply not what Russo and Bischoff wanted
35:23to present its Spring Stampede. In saying that, this is still the best WCW pay-per-view of the year
35:292000,
35:30it's unpredictable, it's one thing after another, it sets the tone for what WCW's gonna be,
35:36and yes, I know that this isn't what fans wanted, but it's still oddly entertaining to see play out.
35:42No doubt it'll become more and more frustrating as time goes on, and if you pluck this show out of
35:47nowhere to watch one evening without knowing any of the backstory, then you're immediately gonna say
35:52it's terrible, but after Superbrawl 2000 and Uncensored 2000, this actually does feel like a
35:57breath of fresh air. Again, not a good wrestling show, I mean 14 matches in 3 hours is enough to
36:03make anyone cry in the corner while in the fetal position, but I can't believe I'm saying this,
36:08but I'm not joking when I say, you can do way worse when it comes to WCW in the year
36:132000,
36:13it really just shows how bad things have gotten really. The new blood hold all the gold and we're
36:18going to kick off Nitro tomorrow night with a big ol' celebration. Join me next week for reliving the war
36:23and we'll see how the Millionaires Club bounce back.
