At least eight people are dead following a magnitude 7.8 earthquake in Mindanao. The offshore quake struck about 24 kilometers west of Sarangani Province, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Based on an initial assessment, two schools, two hospitals, fourteen commercial establishments, and two residential houses were damaged. President Marcos has canceled classes in all levels in earthquake-affected areas.

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, meanwhile, says efforts are continuing to restore power in those areas.
