An earthquake of magnitude 7.7 and several aftershocks struck off the coast of eastern Indonesia early on Aug. 15, 2026 the nation's geophysics agency BMKG said, while tsunami waves of less than 1 meter were recorded in several areas. At a port in Maumere, the main town in Sikka Regency on Flores Island in eastern Indonesia, parts of a building were seen collapsing onto the ground and into the water as people ran in the street. BMKG recorded the first quake at 4:58 a.m. at a depth of 15 km, followed by several aftershocks.
