00:00:24From inside Rogers Center in downtown Toronto,
00:00:28this show brings you a matchup of division rivals.
00:00:31It's the Tampa Bay Rays and the Toronto Blue Jays.
00:00:38All right, we'll be back to get this one started after this.
00:00:45And the starter for Toronto, Dylan Cease.
00:00:49You look at the strikeout leaders, and he's right there mowing guys down, Chris.
00:00:54Yeah, the velocity pops, but it's his late movement that makes it unfair.
00:00:58You can count on competitive at-bats every time.
00:01:01He's racking up Ks and making it look routine.
00:01:04Yeah, just like Charlie Sheen, wannabe hitters are in survival mode when he's on the mound.
00:01:09Yandy Diaz, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one.
00:01:19Base hit.
00:01:20Man aboard on the leadoff single.
00:01:25Good start for him to this ballgame tonight.
00:01:27And I always talk about it.
00:01:28Get a knock in your first at-bat.
00:01:29It just makes your confidence at such a higher level for the potential of having a big night.
00:01:44He's a master at hitting fastballs.
00:01:46You need to be careful with location if you're going to throw him.
00:01:55Swing and a miss.
00:01:57And one and one.
00:01:58On the mound, you take a note.
00:02:00You see the hitter's willingness to chase that pitch upstairs, get deeper in the count, try to climb the ladder.
00:02:07Here's a one-to-one.
00:02:10Nasty backdoor slider.
00:02:11There's really nothing you can do with that if you swing at it.
00:02:13So that's a good take by him.
00:02:21That one misses.
00:02:23They're down three and a one.
00:02:24Back-to-back breaking pitches away.
00:02:26You get the feeling as a hitter that the pitcher's afraid of you, that he doesn't want to challenge you.
00:02:31So I think the confidence level is raised right here.
00:02:34Oh, great stop.
00:02:35The feed for one and two.
00:02:37What a play.
00:02:39For me, that's one of the toughest double plays to turn on the infield.
00:02:42The first baseman has to get inside, create a throwing lane to hit that middle infielder to start the double
00:02:47play.
00:02:47And then from there, completing it back to first.
00:02:50Really good job all the way around.
00:02:53Base is empty after the double play.
00:02:55Junior Caminero now at the plate.
00:02:57Ball just missed.
00:03:08Good fastball going early until they show they can make some good contact.
00:03:12You keep on throwing the pitch.
00:03:27Now a screamer into the outfield.
00:03:29Varshow after it.
00:03:31Flashes the leather on the running catch.
00:03:34And that'll do it.
00:03:35One hit in the inning, but nothing more than that.
00:03:37Now the Blue Jays will get their chance.
00:03:39No score.
00:03:44And starting on the mound for the Rays, Drew Rasmussen.
00:03:48He leads the entire league in wins.
00:03:50And every time he grabs the ball, you expect results.
00:03:53Yeah, he's coming right after hitters, Boog.
00:03:55Setting the tone from the jump.
00:03:56And giving his team a real chance to stack up some Ws.
00:04:00He's not just a pitcher.
00:04:01He's a gamer.
00:04:02Shows up every fifth game ready to compete.
00:04:04That's why every rotation wants a guy like him.
00:04:07Just flat out reliable.
00:04:09Just like you, Parker.
00:04:10Not just far, but loud, Singy.
00:04:13Everything seems to jump off his back.
00:04:15Yeah, Boog.
00:04:15When he connects, the ballpark turns into a souvenir shop.
00:04:19That home run total just keeps on climbing.
00:04:22What did Eric Young used to say?
00:04:23Souvenir city.
00:04:26Let's take a look at the lineup for the Blue Jays.
00:04:29One guy swinging a hot bat recently.
00:04:31Vladimir Guerrero, Jr.
00:04:33Well, the one word I have for him right now is dangerous.
00:04:37This guy leads the AL in slugging percentage.
00:04:40And when you have a hitter like that in the lineup,
00:04:43it makes that manager look and try to strategize ways to avoid you in a potential big situation.
00:04:49I tell you what, that's really valuable.
00:05:02The 0-2.
00:05:04This one in the air center field.
00:05:06Mullins moving under this one.
00:05:09And there's two away.
00:05:15Batting third.
00:05:17The right fielder, number four, George Springer.
00:05:19Joe.
00:05:21Springer.
00:05:21Springer looking to hit career homer number 300 in this game.
00:05:26This one in the air right field.
00:05:31And that should be extra bases.
00:05:33Safely into second.
00:05:34He's got a double.
00:05:38I don't know how he's able to shoot that pitch the other way and still put something on it.
00:05:43That pitch was inside.
00:05:44And he let it get really deep.
00:05:46So, pretty incredible hands to fight it off and still get good wood on it.
00:05:54That one finds the zone.
00:05:56That's strike one.
00:05:57Boy, you always want to come out in the first inning and try to put something up on the board.
00:06:00It's a big two-out double right there.
00:06:02See if the cleanup man can drive him in and put a tally up there on the board.
00:06:07Man on second.
00:06:08Two down.
00:06:09Pitch kicks away.
00:06:12Throw into third.
00:06:13Tally.
00:06:14See.
00:06:14He's in the third of the wild.
00:06:16Pitch.
00:06:17Well, that right there can be a tough read as a runner on second to see if the ball has
00:06:21gotten away enough to move to third.
00:06:23You have to be sure you can make it because you're already in scoring position.
00:06:27Well, he was sure there.
00:06:28And now he's only 90 feet away from scoring.
00:06:43Line drive.
00:06:44Base hit.
00:06:45And they'll score first.
00:06:47It's Nunc's in.
00:06:50Mission accomplished there as he picks up the RBI to give him the lead.
00:06:54Pretty much a model swing on that one as he ripped it into the opposite field gap.
00:06:58And I'm sure he's going to be watching that one back on video because that's the kind of swing you
00:07:02want to bottle.
00:07:03So many positives that led to that knock.
00:07:05And next for Toronto, addison barger off the plate ball one barger matched a homer in his last game.
00:07:16Swung on, belted.
00:07:18That one carrying.
00:07:20And it is out of here.
00:07:25His ninth homer of the year.
00:07:27And they add to their lead.
00:07:29It's 3-0.
00:07:31That's his third straight game with a homer singing.
00:07:34This dude is on fire, boom.
00:07:36These kinds of streaks just don't come around too often.
00:07:40Really great job of anticipation there.
00:07:43He knows he throws the sinker.
00:07:45That one down in the zone.
00:07:46You're trying to beat it to the spot it's getting to.
00:07:49Well, he won.
00:07:52Swing and this one's bounce to the ground.
00:07:55Over to Diaz.
00:07:57Out number three.
00:07:59But they strike for three in the inning.
00:08:02Two on this two-run home run.
00:08:05It's now 3-0.
00:08:06It's an AL East matchup here on MLB The Show.
00:08:12Top of the second and stepping in for the raise.
00:08:15Cedric Mullins.
00:08:17Mullins.
00:08:23A 3-0 lead is great, but you can't get too comfortable.
00:08:26Got to stay aggressive.
00:08:27Keep attacking hitters.
00:08:29Try to cruise through this ballgame.
00:08:36Fastball for a strike.
00:08:37Goodness.
00:08:38I think he just took the best pitch he's going to see in this at bat.
00:08:40You don't get many like that in that location.
00:08:43I don't know if you take that pitch against any pitcher out there on the mound.
00:08:47And he hits a ground ball right side.
00:08:50Guerrero steps on the bag.
00:08:52Lead off man retired here in the second.
00:08:55The right fielder, number 21, Johnny DeLuca.
00:09:09Pitch misses inside.
00:09:11And that's ball one.
00:09:20There's a swing and a drive.
00:09:23Fair ball.
00:09:25Takes the turn.
00:09:26He's digging for second.
00:09:27And that's a double.
00:09:32Got a fastball.
00:09:33Middle of the plate.
00:09:34Jumped all over it.
00:09:35Absolutely smoked that ball.
00:09:43One out.
00:09:44Runner at second.
00:09:45Carson Williams.
00:09:47The next to hit.
00:09:48Too much swing and miss in his at bats recently.
00:09:51Striking out nearly twice in each of the last five games.
00:09:58One out and a runner at second.
00:10:00You're in game one of this three-game set.
00:10:04Runner breaks for third.
00:10:06On a line.
00:10:09Varshoff snags it on the run.
00:10:11Wow.
00:10:12He looked like he was running before the ball was hit.
00:10:15Didn't have much time.
00:10:16As that was a hard hit and lighter.
00:10:18But a nice job of covering a lot of ground in a short amount of time.
00:10:43Swings and misses.
00:10:450-2.
00:10:46Man, 91 on the slider right there.
00:10:48That's a hard one.
00:10:49That's a low-end fastball for some pitchers.
00:10:54Outside.
00:10:55That's a ball.
00:11:03Fights it off.
00:11:04He'll see another.
00:11:12Man, it's second.
00:11:15Ball two.
00:11:25This one in the air, right field.
00:11:28Springer, drop step, going back.
00:11:30That one is foul, and he'll see another.
00:11:39Man on second, two down.
00:11:42Out towards right center field.
00:11:51A double in the inning, but they leave him stranded.
00:11:54Now to the bottom of the second.
00:11:56It's the Blue Jays' three, the Rays nothing.
00:11:59You're watching Blue Jays baseball.
00:12:02Bottom half of the inning, number two, and now for the Jays, Jesus Sanchez.
00:12:08Sanchez.
00:12:09Hey.
00:12:17Lifted in the air, right center field.
00:12:20One away.
00:12:28Batting in the air, right center field.
00:12:31Oh, great.
00:12:32Oh, great.
00:12:47Hey.
00:12:47Big nut.
00:12:48The second baseman, Leo Jimenez.
00:12:52So up next for Toronto, Leo Jimenez.
00:12:56He's been tearing it up at the plate recently.
00:12:58Working on a five-game hitting streak.
00:13:00Fastball in for a strike.
00:13:020-1.
00:13:03Jimenez went deep in his most recent game.
00:13:06Oh, look at the stop.
00:13:09And they get the out.
00:13:12Down in order go the Blue Jays.
00:13:15But they're on top by a count of three to nothing.
00:13:20Welcome back.
00:13:21Last series, the pitching was not good as we take a check of the numbers.
00:13:34Outside.
00:13:35And that's ball one.
00:13:36Love seeing a player come through in the clutch moments, Boog.
00:13:40I'm sure his teammates appreciated him sending them home with the W.
00:13:43This one in the air, right field.
00:13:46One down.
00:13:54Batting done.
00:13:55The third baseman, number six, Taylor Wall.
00:14:16Comes up empty.
00:14:17Quickly in an 0-2 count.
00:14:19You've got to figure out a way to shorten your path to the baseball.
00:14:22Put it in play somewhere.
00:14:23Then you've got a chance.
00:14:26And there are two down.
00:14:32Yandy Diaz down.
00:14:34He's one for one.
00:14:35Let off the game with a single.
00:14:37Yandy Diaz.
00:14:42Clips the corner.
00:14:44Strike one.
00:14:53Hit weakly on the ground.
00:14:55Jimenez.
00:14:57To first.
00:14:58And that's the third out.
00:15:00Nothing to do for Tampa.
00:15:02They trail it here.
00:15:033-0.
00:15:09Back now in Toronto.
00:15:11Now here's the leadoff man for the Blue Jays.
00:15:13Alejandro Kirk.
00:15:15Well, these Jays doing a good job of simply getting the bat on the ball in this game.
00:15:20And the numbers back that up.
00:15:22It's tough to remember the times they've actually swung and missed at a pitch.
00:15:25Because it really hasn't happened.
00:15:27They've made contact on nearly 100% of their swings.
00:15:30All those numbers mean this offense is really making the defense work by just putting the ball into play.
00:15:37Anything can happen at that point.
00:15:43He's been one of the best players in the league at driving and runs, Singy.
00:15:47His RBI numbers are good enough to be top five at all of baseball.
00:15:58Line drive.
00:15:59Bills hit right for you.
00:16:02So Amanda Borden now with one away.
00:16:05Back against the wall with two strikes but found a way.
00:16:08Showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way.
00:16:11Didn't get jumpy.
00:16:12Didn't try to pull the ball.
00:16:14He let it get deep.
00:16:15Took the barrel right to it.
00:16:17Oh, now this one gets away at the plate.
00:16:21Guerrero.
00:16:21In to scoring position on the wild pitch.
00:16:24And there goes the double play possibility.
00:16:26Can't imagine he's too happy with that one on the mound.
00:16:29Just one pitch after giving up the single, he basically turns it into a double.
00:16:35Man at second.
00:16:42Jack Swain called strike.
00:16:44That strike two.
00:16:46Well, he looks fresh out there.
00:16:47Just needs to get a little more confident.
00:16:50And remember how good he's been in the past.
00:17:00No question about this one.
00:17:02It's out of here.
00:17:08A big home run for him, certainly.
00:17:11Number 300 for his career.
00:17:13Someone get him that baseball.
00:17:16Well, you have to appreciate what he's been able to do in his career.
00:17:19He's truly established himself as one of the great power hitters in the game today.
00:17:24And this is a milestone he can be really proud of.
00:17:28There are a lot of very good hitters that never get to 300 homers in their careers.
00:17:49One down.
00:17:50Now the Toronto full-hole hitter, Dalton Varsha.
00:18:02Hard on the ground to first.
00:18:04Diaz takes it himself.
00:18:06That's out number two.
00:18:07Back for the Blue Jays.
00:18:09The third baseman, Addison.
00:18:12Barger.
00:18:17And first offering is fouled off.
00:18:21Two down.
00:18:23Nobody on.
00:18:24No, that's down.
00:18:33Fires over to first.
00:18:34That's the third out.
00:18:36Inning over.
00:18:37It's a beautiful Springer-Dinger here.
00:18:40And the lead is now 5-0.
00:18:43It's an AL East matchup here on MLB The Show.
00:18:49Back here at Rogers Center.
00:18:51And stepping in for the Rays, Jonathan Aranda.
00:19:02Ball, that's inside.
00:19:11Fouled off left side.
00:19:23Now two balls and a strike.
00:19:32High fly ball, right field.
00:19:34Springer should have this one.
00:19:38And there's one away.
00:19:42Up next for Tampa Bay, the designated hitter, Junior.
00:19:46Coming down.
00:19:55Just missed.
00:19:57The Blue Jays leading by five.
00:19:59Top half of inning number four.
00:20:03Down the middle for a strike.
00:20:04And now it's even one and one.
00:20:06I think that pitch surprised all of us.
00:20:09Right down the middle doesn't get a swing.
00:20:11And not very often you see a hitter lay off a cookie like that.
00:20:15And a base hit.
00:20:16And that's a one-out single.
00:20:22Up next for Tampa Bay, the center fielder.
00:20:25Cedric Mullins next to him for the Rays.
00:20:28He's over one.
00:20:46And a one-out.
00:20:50Chris, he's currently the team leader in stolen basins.
00:20:53A defensive swing right there.
00:20:55Some cheese on the inside part of the plate.
00:20:57Bet the hands are still stinging after that one.
00:21:13Swing and a miss.
00:21:15Throws to second, but he's in there easily.
00:21:18And now a man in the scoring position.
00:21:27Up next for Tampa Bay, the right fielder, number 21, Johnny DeLuca.
00:21:39Hey!
00:21:49Man on second, two down.
00:22:03Hard ground.
00:22:04They're into the outfield for a knock.
00:22:07And they hold him at third.
00:22:0990 feet away with two out.
00:22:11Wasting no time.
00:22:12He's two for two now on the night.
00:22:15And just a triple and home run away from the cycle.
00:22:19Seriously, we're starting with this already.
00:22:23Digging in.
00:22:24Carson Williams.
00:22:36Two on, two outs.
00:22:39Into center.
00:22:42Got it!
00:22:43Covered plenty of distance there.
00:22:45And that is that.
00:22:47So the Rays strand the pair.
00:22:49It's 5-0.
00:22:53Ready to go for the last half of the inning.
00:22:55Now it's the Toronto designated hitter, Davis Schneider.
00:22:59Swing and a line drive, slicing into right field.
00:23:02One up, one down.
00:23:03Clearly ready to hit right there.
00:23:05First pitch of the inning hits a bullet.
00:23:07And it just is one of those bad luck A-Bs.
00:23:15And this guy's got a great feel for his breaking ball today.
00:23:21Sliced hard, but fouled down the left side.
00:23:28That one back up the middle and it gets through.
00:23:32So they get a man aboard with a one-out single.
00:23:36Up next for the Blue Jays.
00:23:39Here's Andre Jimenez.
00:23:41Flying to left his first time.
00:23:43That misses.
00:23:45Ball one.
00:23:57Right through there for a strike.
00:24:03Really good take, especially with two strikes.
00:24:10Just misses without one.
00:24:12He's just missing with some pitches that, I mean, those are, they're not strikes.
00:24:16And that's what you think of good pitches a strike.
00:24:19But so many times pitchers are trying to tease the zone.
00:24:21And the last two pitches that he's thrown, good pitches, but even better takes.
00:24:25And here's a look at how he's using his pitches in this one.
00:24:59Up next for the Blue Jays.
00:25:00Getting ready to hit.
00:25:02Hey!
00:25:08That one ripped, but fouled.
00:25:16And he'll do battling here as he fouls it away.
00:25:24First and second, two down.
00:25:26We're here at the bottom of the fourth.
00:25:28Got him swinging.
00:25:30Blue Jays leave a pair, but they hold a 5-0 lead.
00:25:43Welcome back as we take a peek at the starting pitching so far this year.
00:25:58Well, these Rays, just lacking discipline at the plate in this ballgame.
00:26:02So many of their outs have come from weak contact on pitches.
00:26:05They're chasing outside of the strike zone.
00:26:07You can't do much of anything with those locations.
00:26:10And that's been true again today.
00:26:12Catcher challenge.
00:26:13We'll take another look.
00:26:15Pretty close, but it was a ball.
00:26:17So they'll lose their first challenge.
00:26:24The 1-1.
00:26:28And as a pitcher, when the hitters are swinging at everything,
00:26:31you feel no need to challenge inside the zone.
00:26:34You just keep working the corners and expanding that strike zone and beyond.
00:26:38And they just keep eating right out of your hand.
00:26:45Next offering in there for a strike.
00:26:47That is strike two.
00:26:56And it's fouled off.
00:26:57They'll do it again.
00:26:59Flew open a little bit with that front shoulder,
00:27:01but was able to slow his back down just enough to make contact with that pitch.
00:27:05Keep the bat alive.
00:27:10Swing and a miss for the strikeout.
00:27:12Went back to the fastball, and it was effective.
00:27:15That's tough.
00:27:15You see it well.
00:27:16I mean, that was clearly up and out of the strike zone,
00:27:18but that's one of the hardest things.
00:27:20When you see a pitch out of the hand at eye level,
00:27:24that discipline to remember, I can't hit that pitch.
00:27:27If I can see it really well at eye level,
00:27:29I can't catch up to that pitch when a pitcher's got this kind of velocity.
00:27:32Oh, that pitch is out.
00:27:40Ball, that's off the plate.
00:27:50In the air to left center, Sanchez on his way over,
00:27:54pulls it down, and he makes the catch.
00:27:57And there's two away.
00:28:00And here's a look at how he's using his pitches in this one.
00:28:03Number six, Taylor Walls.
00:28:06Taylor Walls next to hit for the Rays.
00:28:37And that one hit to first.
00:28:39He takes it himself to the bag, and that'll do it.
00:28:42He continues to roll on the mound as five shutout innings are in the books.
00:28:50We head to the bottom of the fifth.
00:28:52And now for the Jays, Vladimir Guerrero, Jr.
00:28:55All one.
00:29:01He's been ranking in recent games, and a big reason why getting ahead in counts.
00:29:07He's been able to do that consistently, and you see the results.
00:29:123-0 down.
00:29:14That one misses.
00:29:16So a lead-off walk.
00:29:17Maybe a little loss of focus on the mound right there.
00:29:20Pretty much gifted in first base with a quick free pass.
00:29:23Up next for the Blue Jays, the right fielder, number four, Joel.
00:29:29That one misses.
00:29:31That's five straight.
00:29:32Good spot there, but didn't get the strike at the knees,
00:29:34and doesn't seem too convinced by the call out there on the mound
00:29:38as he tries to get a better sense of the umpire strike zone.
00:29:41DeLuca takes it in for the out.
00:29:43One away.
00:29:46Up next for the Blue Jays, the center fielder, number five.
00:29:50One out man at first.
00:29:52Dalton Varshow will hit next.
00:30:05Ripped into right fielder, base hit.
00:30:08Plays it out of bounds, and it deflects away.
00:30:15Up next for the Blue Jays, the third baseman, Anderson, Borger.
00:30:24Now a pop-up on the infield.
00:30:27Diaz has a bead on it.
00:30:30And there's two down.
00:30:32Oh, that's a frustrating end to the at-bat for the hitter right there.
00:30:36I mean, that pitch was right down the middle.
00:30:38I think he got a little too excited, came out of his mechanics.
00:30:41Instead of driving that ball somewhere, he popped it up.
00:30:44Unfortunate for him.
00:30:48Schneider, up to bat next, lays off for a ball.
00:30:57And that one hammered way back there.
00:31:01Gone!
00:31:02He doinks it off the foul pole.
00:31:05It's his sixth home run of the season, and they add on.
00:31:09That's their third home run of the game.
00:31:12They're having a lot of fun at the plate in this one.
00:31:15They've got the long ball working for them on autopilot.
00:31:20Well, he really crushed that thing down the line, and everyone had to hold their breath until it clanked off
00:31:25the pole.
00:31:26And every time that happens, it just kind of feels like a trick shot or something.
00:31:30But really, it's just a stroke of luck that it stays very long enough.
00:31:42And he was born in the Dominican Republic.
00:31:48Nice grab.
00:31:49To first.
00:31:51It's there, and that's a great play.
00:31:55Three-run shot for the Jays this inning.
00:31:58It's now an 8-0 game.
00:32:01It's an AL East matchup here on MLB The Show.
00:32:08Welcome back.
00:32:09A few highlights to help tell the story of the game.
00:32:11I'm going to go up out of you, I'm looking at a car.
00:32:14Went to A&D, man, pee, phone, them all.
00:32:17The rest's history, you know we took it mad far.
00:32:20Rap duo, travel the world like Nat Geo.
00:32:23Wrote myself through the matrix of black Neo.
00:32:26Got real, had to go back to a P-do.
00:32:28No break bread with your own people.
00:32:31Made peace with it that I couldn't change.
00:32:34And took responsibility instead of passing blame.
00:32:37Anything less lame.
00:32:39Send your $5.
00:32:40So up next, Yandy Diaz.
00:32:43The first baseman, number two, Yandy Diaz.
00:32:56That one finds the zone, and that is strike one.
00:33:08A little out front there as he swings through it.
00:33:10And it really looks like these hitters have been in between with their timing today.
00:33:14Good fastball, excellent slider,
00:33:16but they've not been able to commit to one velocity and stay there.
00:33:25Here's the 0-2.
00:33:41Yep, that ball went out.
00:33:55Spoils the two-strike pitch, and he'll see another.
00:34:05Got him looking, and that's four strikeouts.
00:34:09No, just couldn't pull the trigger on the fastball right there,
00:34:11and I don't think he was taking it, thinking it might be a called ball or anything.
00:34:15I just think he was flat-out frozen.
00:34:17Did not expect that location, in my opinion.
00:34:20Jonathan Arunda digs in now.
00:34:23His righty-lefty splits there.
00:34:24Tonight, his slider has been really impressive.
00:34:27I mean, tight spin.
00:34:28Seems like the hitters aren't picking it up out of the hand.
00:34:36This one in the air, center field.
00:34:40Two-way down.
00:34:44Up next for Tampa Bay, the designated hitter, Junior Cominero.
00:35:16Swing and a miss, and it's nothing and two.
00:35:18Just an outstanding job of spinning the baseball, moving it around, doing what he does.
00:35:25Next one misses.
00:35:27One and two to the count.
00:35:29Two down, nobody on.
00:35:30And we're the top half of the sixth.
00:35:33Got him.
00:35:34He picks up his fifth strikeout on the hill.
00:35:37So another good inning for him on the mound.
00:35:40Six shutout innings now.
00:35:41You're watching Blue Jays baseball on the show, Canada.
00:35:48Now pitching for the way.
00:35:50Back down for the bottom of the sixth, and there's a new pitcher on the mound.
00:35:53Ian Seymour.
00:35:54He's averaging more than one hit allowed per inning pitch this season, man.
00:35:58That's not where you want to be at all.
00:36:00So we'll see how he does here.
00:36:02He met a late swing foul to the left.
00:36:10Ball one now.
00:36:12Ball one there.
00:36:14Ball one there.
00:36:30And they'll do it again.
00:36:35One-two now.
00:36:38Ball back outside.
00:36:46That one ripped right center field.
00:36:49Back there.
00:36:50He won't get there.
00:36:52That should be extra bases.
00:36:54And he starts the bottom of the sixth with a double.
00:36:59Nice line drive to the pull side right there.
00:37:02But he didn't spin off of it.
00:37:03That's the key.
00:37:04You still have to extend through the baseball in order to hit a line drive like that.
00:37:20Runner in scoring position.
00:37:22Nobody out.
00:37:23Here in the bottom of the sixth.
00:37:25Hammer down the right side.
00:37:26But foul.
00:37:31Hit on the ground to short.
00:37:35To first.
00:37:36And he beats it.
00:37:37Everyone's safe.
00:37:38That's a really tough play no matter who you are.
00:37:41But I think he has a chance to get him at first if he's just able to get that throw
00:37:45off a little quicker.
00:37:46Looked like he took one extra step to set himself and get a grip on the ball.
00:37:51Back to the top of the lineup.
00:37:53Now the catcher up to hit.
00:37:55Alejandro Kirk.
00:37:56Centerfield.
00:37:57He's got it.
00:37:58Runner tags it second.
00:38:01The relay.
00:38:02He makes it to third.
00:38:04Good base running to move up with only one out.
00:38:07The first baseman.
00:38:09Vladimir.
00:38:10Guerrero.
00:38:11Junior.
00:38:21And that is out of play.
00:38:28Two on one out.
00:38:30Swing and a miss.
00:38:32Great spot to be in right here for the pitcher.
00:38:34You can either strike this guy out or get a ground ball double play.
00:38:42Inside.
00:38:43Hit him.
00:38:43And now the bases are loaded.
00:38:46The right fielder.
00:38:47And it'll be George Springer to step to the plate.
00:38:50He's already homered in this game.
00:38:55No.
00:38:56Inside.
00:39:02On the ground.
00:39:03No left ground.
00:39:03And that's just foul.
00:39:12One-one down.
00:39:15Base hit.
00:39:16One run is in.
00:39:18The throw in.
00:39:20Save at the plate.
00:39:22And it's a double-digit lead as they're up by ten.
00:39:26Gets the job done as he brings home a pair.
00:39:28Got the top of the ball a little bit, but not much.
00:39:30That was hit pretty hard through the infield.
00:39:32So, I think he'll be happy with that swing.
00:39:35Definitely generated some good bat speed.
00:39:38Ball.
00:39:45Guerrero over at second.
00:39:47Springer over at first.
00:39:49So, going away.
00:40:01Swings and misses.
00:40:02One and two.
00:40:03Knowing that the pitcher wants a ground ball double play opportunity here,
00:40:08you've got to lay off pitches down in the zone.
00:40:10Right there, swinging at that pitch.
00:40:12That's a no-no.
00:40:14The one-two.
00:40:17Keeps the event going with a foul ball.
00:40:26And that's awfully close.
00:40:28I don't know how you take that.
00:40:29He's seeing the ball out of the pitcher's hand really well right now.
00:40:34That one misses.
00:40:36Ball three.
00:40:46Up the middle.
00:40:48And that's a base hit.
00:40:50Lowdy coming around third.
00:40:51He'll score easily.
00:40:53And they extend their lead.
00:40:55Mullins whips it back in.
00:40:56Runner holds a third.
00:40:58So, just one across on the play.
00:41:00Picks himself up at RBI.
00:41:01Timing on the swing was good.
00:41:03Able to shoot the ball up the middle.
00:41:04Didn't square it up as much as he probably would have liked.
00:41:07But that's a good approach paying off.
00:41:09Barger in the box.
00:41:11Lays off for ball one.
00:41:17Just missed.
00:41:18Tough spot right here.
00:41:19A couple runners on.
00:41:21Two ball count.
00:41:22You can't nibble, but you have to execute and finish your pitch.
00:41:26If you leave something out over the plate, it's going to bring in some runs.
00:41:29That one missed.
00:41:31He's getting a little frustrated out there on the mound, getting hit around a little bit.
00:41:35Let's see if he can settle himself down.
00:41:38And they're all loaded up.
00:41:39They'll just came up right there.
00:41:41Four pitch walk.
00:41:42And the guy to play was not going to help him out by swinging at something out of the zone.
00:41:51Strike one.
00:41:52Tough situation right here.
00:41:53So important as a pitcher to get ahead in the count as he did right there.
00:42:01Now he breaks his bat.
00:42:03Steps on the bag for one.
00:42:12Hey, Sue Sanchez next up for the Blue Jays.
00:42:15One for three.
00:42:21Chopped left side.
00:42:23And he goes just foul.
00:42:31Two on, two outs.
00:42:33Ball match outside.
00:42:42Drilled in the air out towards right center.
00:42:45Mullins on the move.
00:42:47Pulls it down and he makes the catch.
00:42:51So nine batters come to the plate.
00:42:53Four of them score.
00:42:54We're through six full.
00:42:56It's the Blue Jays 12.
00:42:58The Rays nothing.
00:43:00Welcome back.
00:43:01We're in the seventh.
00:43:02We have a new pitcher on the mound.
00:43:03Number 62.
00:43:04He pitched yesterday and we'll see him once again.
00:43:08Leading off to the base.
00:43:09The center field is.
00:43:11Cedric.
00:43:12Mullins.
00:43:20At the ball.
00:43:21Movement in the Blue Jays' bullpen.
00:43:23Max Scherzer getting ready to go.
00:43:35Foul ball.
00:43:48Ball to strike.
00:43:49The pitch.
00:43:50Strike on the inside corner.
00:44:03And down on strikes.
00:44:06And there's one down.
00:44:07Well, that's a pitch.
00:44:08That slider from an opposite-handed pitcher that you usually see very well.
00:44:12But for some reason, he didn't pick it up.
00:44:14And it just kind of got him to the strike zone late.
00:44:17Gave up on it a little bit early.
00:44:25Tap foul to play.
00:44:39Swing and a miss.
00:44:40Chased it out of the zone.
00:44:56Well, that two-seamer is heat-seeking for right-handed batters.
00:45:00Just runs in on those hands.
00:45:21And a foul ball.
00:45:22He stays alive.
00:45:33The 0-2.
00:45:35Swing and a miss.
00:45:36That one in the dirt.
00:45:38Kirk to first.
00:45:39Throws sails on him.
00:45:41And it takes off down the line.
00:45:42And he's out easily.
00:45:53Base is empty with two away.
00:45:55Now with the plate, Carson Williams.
00:45:57Williams Williams.
00:46:0280.
00:46:16Now one pushed foul.
00:46:30Chew down, nobody on.
00:46:320-2 pitch that far out of the zone gives the hitter a little confidence
00:46:36that maybe he can climb back into this at bat.
00:46:57Foul it off.
00:46:58And they'll do it again.
00:46:59He's a little out front, but did a good job keeping the hands back long enough to foul that pitch
00:47:03off.
00:47:08And there's a ball.
00:47:19And there's ball four.
00:47:21What a battle.
00:47:22It's not always easy laying off a 3-2 pitch.
00:47:24And I tell you what, he earned that walk.
00:47:26Keegan.
00:47:40Foul ball there.
00:47:44The Rays with a lot of ground to make up.
00:47:47Here at the top half of inning number seven.
00:47:54And there's a foul ball.
00:48:09Ball one.
00:48:20Inside.
00:48:21Just missed.
00:48:21He's really tightening up his hitting zone with two strikes here.
00:48:24I love it.
00:48:26Williams leads off first with two down to the inning.
00:48:34On the ground to third.
00:48:39Throw in the dirt.
00:48:40Can't pick it cleanly.
00:48:41Now two aboard.
00:48:43Well, fortunately, they've got a big lead on the scoreboard,
00:48:46so that error shouldn't hurt too much.
00:48:48But you have to be careful about losing concentration in a game like this.
00:48:52It can be an easy trap to fall into.
00:48:56Manager out of the dugout, and he's going to make a change.
00:48:59Number 62 will depart.
00:49:01And the line not closed on him yet, as he's responsible for the runners on base.
00:49:05Back with a new pitcher after this.
00:49:14Now, the pitcher on here, Jimmy Garcia.
00:49:18He's been hit pretty hard at times this season, as you see with the big ERA.
00:49:22So, this is an important outing for him to get on the right track.
00:49:25First and second, two down.
00:49:27Now, the left fielder, Chandler Simpson.
00:49:31Yeah!
00:49:42The 0-1.
00:49:45Swing and a foul straight back.
00:49:55Two on, two outs.
00:49:57Right side.
00:49:59The underhand flip.
00:50:00Nicely done for the out.
00:50:03So, the Rays strand the pair.
00:50:06Hasn't been their day.
00:50:07It's 12-0.
00:50:13It's a bit of a blowout.
00:50:19So, a lefty out of the pen.
00:50:21Garrett Clevenger.
00:50:22He last pitched four days ago, so he should feel pretty fresh.
00:50:26Number 60, Garrett Clevenger.
00:50:36Nope.
00:50:36One of the things, though, that we've seen that is kind of a thread, really, in every sport.
00:50:42These are the elite players, and so they adjust, and they've done a great job adjusting.
00:50:46Absolutely.
00:50:47And just, you tip your cat to these guys, because not an easy adjustment, but they look like they've been
00:50:53doing it their entire lives.
00:50:56Simpson, towards the line, looking up, makes a one-handed catch.
00:51:02Up next, for the Blue Jays, the second baseman, Leo Jimenez.
00:51:13Hey!
00:51:19Inside, almost got him.
00:51:24The Jays, up big in this one, here at the bottom of the seven.
00:51:28He has a tendency to chase out of the zone, and that slider that's down, that's one of his money
00:51:33pitches to get that swing and miss.
00:51:37That's out to center field.
00:51:43And there are two outs.
00:51:49Up next, for the Blue Jays.
00:51:52So, back to the top of the order.
00:51:54Alejandro Kirk, next up for the Blue Jays.
00:51:560 for 4.
00:51:57Four, three fly outs and a strikeout.
00:52:03And a good slider from an opposite-handed pitcher has to stay in that tunnel just a little bit longer.
00:52:08Otherwise, recognition can cause you to barrel it off.
00:52:11And right there, the hitter clearly couldn't do anything with it.
00:52:14That's a base hit.
00:52:15So a two-out knock keeps the inning alive.
00:52:19Nice line drive to the pull side, met it out front, but just stayed through it nice enough and ripped
00:52:24it into the outfield.
00:52:33This one in the air center field, Mullins in position, and the inning is over.
00:52:41One hit, one left.
00:52:43We look ahead to inning number eight.
00:52:45It's the Blue Jays 12, the Rays nothing.
00:52:48It's an AL East back-up here on MLB.
00:52:52Welcome back.
00:52:53And a new arm on the mound to start the eight, Brendan Little.
00:52:56Well, walks have been a big issue for him this year, so I expect these hitters to be patient up
00:53:02there.
00:53:05Here's the third baseman, Taylor Walls.
00:53:08The third baseman, Taylor Walls.
00:53:14That clicks the corner.
00:53:26Swing and a miss.
00:53:27And it's 0-2.
00:53:28This guy's sink has so much drop in it, it's almost like a split-finger fastball.
00:53:32Instead of just weak contact and balls on the ground, he gets swings and misses.
00:53:37The 0-2.
00:53:41Gets a piece there.
00:53:42We'll do it again.
00:53:56Ball one.
00:53:58Ball one.
00:54:01Ball one.
00:54:18Swings, throw it in, that's a strikeout.
00:54:21Boogie just ran out of patience there.
00:54:22He took a couple of pitches to even that count off.
00:54:25But two balls and two strikes, but that time chased outside the zone.
00:54:39Ball one.
00:54:47Ball one.
00:54:49Little measures six feet, two inches.
00:54:51He throws a curveball, a sinker, and occasionally uses a cutter.
00:54:57Next offering in there for a strike.
00:54:59That's strike two.
00:55:07Ball.
00:55:16Gets a piece and stays alive.
00:55:29Now one missed.
00:55:36And he walked him.
00:55:37Looks like a questionable call in that spot.
00:55:39He even seemed a little surprised he'd win his way at the plate.
00:55:42But as a hitter, he'll take that all day.
00:55:45Man at first with one gone.
00:55:46Jonathan Arunda next to hit for the Rays.
00:55:490-3 with two fly outs and a ground out.
00:55:58That one fouled off.
00:56:12And that's in for a strike.
00:56:14Only two down.
00:56:18Diaz, the base runner at first with one out.
00:56:26Stays alive.
00:56:41Swings and misses.
00:56:43And about front for strike three.
00:56:46Felt clearly just anxious right there.
00:56:48And understandably so in an 0-2 count.
00:56:50You feel like you've got a lot of plate to cover.
00:56:53And you don't want to strike out.
00:56:55And you end up striking out.
00:56:56That's just one of those pitches where it's not over the plate.
00:56:59But because you committed to it as it was leaving his hand.
00:57:02By the time you realized it wasn't going to be in the zone.
00:57:04It's too late to hold up your swing.
00:57:120-1 down.
00:57:15Swing and a miss.
00:57:16Ugly swing right there.
00:57:17He finds himself in a tough situation early.
00:57:20Just going to try to simplify it.
00:57:22Take a knock the other way if you can.
00:57:27Going to now.
00:57:29Foul ball left side.
00:57:30He'll see another.
00:57:45That one sizzling out its way through to the outfield.
00:57:49And out to a board.
00:57:54Here comes the manager out of the Blue Jays dugout.
00:57:57And he will make a move to the pen.
00:57:59Brendan Little.
00:58:00Done for the night.
00:58:01We'll be back in a minute with a new arm on the mound.
00:58:10Max Scherzer takes over on the mound.
00:58:13And he's been hit pretty hard at times this year.
00:58:16So he's looking for better.
00:58:18Right now giving up more than a hit per inning.
00:58:23Two aboard.
00:58:24Two outs.
00:58:25Next to bat will be the Rays four hitter.
00:58:27Cedric Mullins.
00:58:31Two outs.
00:58:52It's a big opportunity right here.
00:58:54But I love the way he's slowing the game down.
00:58:56He's shrinking his zone, making sure he gets the pitch that he wants to hit.
00:59:04Two on, two outs.
00:59:07He swings and fouls one off.
00:59:19Two, two down.
00:59:22Fouls it back with two strikes.
00:59:37Down on strikes looking for the second straight plate appearance.
00:59:42It's the Blue Jays 12, the Rays nothing.
00:59:49Back now in Toronto.
00:59:50They put themselves out front with a nice display at the plate.
00:59:54Take a look at the spray chart for where their hits have landed.
00:59:57Yeah, it looks like they've been spreading it out pretty well in this one, Boogs.
01:00:00Spraying the ball all over the yard.
01:00:02Good team effort at the dish.
01:00:10There's the strike.
01:00:22Oh, great stop.
01:00:24Over to first.
01:00:26Throw is low and, oh, nearly a great play.
01:00:30The scoop goes in and out of the glove.
01:00:32Well, an error like that.
01:00:34You look at the scoreboard and you kind of wonder if they are losing focus out there.
01:00:38And look, it can be tough to stay locked in when you're getting blown out.
01:00:41We've all been there.
01:00:42And I'm not saying that's definitely what happened on this play, but it's not a great look.
01:00:55Foul ball.
01:01:05The one-to-one.
01:01:08Back up the, oh, that got him.
01:01:11On the run, throw to first.
01:01:13And it beats him.
01:01:14What a play.
01:01:17And now they'll hustle out to check on him.
01:01:19That was quite a shot he took as you see him down underneath.
01:01:23Yeah, clearly in some real pain, but he will not want to come out of this game if he doesn't
01:01:27have to.
01:01:28It's looking to me like he's going to try to shake it off and continue.
01:01:32So now with one away and a man at second.
01:01:35Now the third baseman, Addison Barger.
01:01:37Addison Barger.
01:01:38Eight.
01:01:48The 0-1.
01:01:52Laser to the gap.
01:01:53Should score the run.
01:01:54Here comes Springer around third.
01:01:57He'll score and the lead continues to grow.
01:02:00And he'll reach second with one away.
01:02:02Puts a run on the board and picks up an RBI.
01:02:05He got a pitch he could drive, but he didn't get too excited like a lot of guys do and
01:02:08pull off the baseball.
01:02:10Really good timing all the way through the swing.
01:02:12And the barrel was so on playing with the ball.
01:02:15Easy drive into the gap for that double.
01:02:36Man, it's second.
01:02:39Swing and a high fly ball.
01:02:41Well struck.
01:02:41Way back there.
01:02:42It's got a chance.
01:02:44That's not coming back.
01:02:48Another homer.
01:02:49His second home run of the game.
01:02:52And they add a pair.
01:02:53It's 15-0.
01:02:55He really needed that swing.
01:02:57He hasn't been getting a ton of results at the plate lately.
01:02:59So I'm sure that one felt especially good.
01:03:03I wasn't sure he hit that one as hard as he needed to to get it out of here.
01:03:07But it had just enough behind it for the homer.
01:03:10What an attempt at the wall, though.
01:03:11He really gave a terrific effort to try and bring that one back.
01:03:15One down.
01:03:16Now, here is Jesus Sanchez.
01:03:22Oh, that's out.
01:03:34Chopped back up the middle.
01:03:36And that one handled.
01:03:38Throw short hops a bit first.
01:03:40Can't come up with it.
01:03:41He's safe.
01:03:42Oh, an error like that.
01:03:43You look at the scoreboard and you kind of wonder if they are losing focus out there.
01:03:47And look, it can be tough to stay locked in when you're getting blown out.
01:03:51We've all been there.
01:03:52And I'm not saying that's definitely what happened on this play, but it's not a great look.
01:03:58This has been a rough inning, but sometimes you just got to work through it, save the rest of that
01:04:03bullpen, somehow stop the bleeding.
01:04:07Line drive to short and caught.
01:04:12That at bat is a positive sign, even though it probably doesn't feel like it.
01:04:16He hit the ball hard, but it doesn't always work out in your favor.
01:04:19Sometimes a defender is there to make a play.
01:04:21And next for Toronto, Leo Jimenez on the ground to the left.
01:04:27And fouled off.
01:04:31Sanchez off of first with two away.
01:04:41Ball.
01:04:48That's ball too.
01:04:55Swing and a ball lifted to center field.
01:05:00That is the inning.
01:05:03But they strike for three in the inning.
01:05:06Two on this two-run home run.
01:05:09Last chance for the Rays coming up.
01:05:16Back here at Rogers Center and stepping in for the Rays, Johnny DeLuca.
01:05:21DeLuca.
01:05:28Right through there for a strike.
01:05:30There it was.
01:05:30Oh, oh.
01:05:31Here it is.
01:05:31Hit it.
01:05:32He gets a take.
01:05:33Gets ahead in the count.
01:05:40That one finds the zone.
01:05:42Oh, and two.
01:05:43Toronto's bullpen with some action.
01:05:45Jeff Hoffman, a right-hander with big strikeout stuff, is getting it fired up.
01:05:51Oh, and two now.
01:05:56Ball one.
01:06:04Great job of laying off those pitches down in the zone to even the count off at two and two.
01:06:09Such a better feeling for the hitter.
01:06:18Got him looking for the K.
01:06:20And a strikeout for the first out here in the ninth.
01:06:23Didn't agree with the call at the plate right there.
01:06:26But again, a game like this, that's just too close to take.
01:06:29It's a blowout game.
01:06:30Guys have been out here for a while.
01:06:32Umpires saying, hey, let's go.
01:06:34Cut it loose.
01:06:34Swing the bat.
01:06:42Wouldn't you say in today's game of baseball, though, it's changed a little bit.
01:06:46The umpires, even in a blowout, seem to be more cognizant of the fact that they're being judged.
01:06:52So you don't get as many of those fringy type blowout calls as maybe you did, you know, back in
01:06:58the old days when you played.
01:06:59A hundred percent.
01:07:00I mean, the analytics are there, and also hitters aren't willing to give up an at-bat regardless of the
01:07:06score.
01:07:06Ask Fernando Tatis Jr.
01:07:09Ground ball right side.
01:07:13Fires over to Guerrero.
01:07:15Down to the last out for the Rays.
01:07:17Up next for Tampa Bay.
01:07:19The catcher.
01:07:19Two outs, base is empty.
01:07:21And here's the catcher.
01:07:220 for 3 in this one.
01:07:30Hey!
01:07:40This one in the air center field.
01:07:45And he's got it.
01:07:46Ball game.
01:07:47And the Blue Jays slug their way to a win in this one.
01:07:52Well, I don't know if they do it in the cage today or on the field for batting practice, but
01:07:56when you win by double digits, something is clicking.
01:07:59That batting coach feels pretty good about himself right now, but more so the players.
01:08:03They can't wait for the next one.
01:08:04Come back out, score, and get another W.
01:08:06more, on the field for the next one.
01:08:36and forget about my friend
01:08:37be in the city opposite of innocent
