00:00One of the big moves of the week, especially national football-wise when it came to the news, was the
00:06A.J. Brown trade.
00:07Now, we talked a little bit earlier about him leaking information to the media.
00:12The trade itself, though, the Philadelphia Eagles end up getting a one in 2028 and a fifth-rounder in 2027.
00:22And, of course, the New England Patriots end up getting a star-wide receiver in A.J. Brown.
00:28Taking a look at this, where and why would Philly want the 2028 pick?
00:34I think it's very simple if you just break it down.
00:37You break this down looking at where the Eagles are right now as an organization.
00:43It's clear that they're going to use this pick to determine in the 2026 season if Jalen Hurts is going
00:51to be the quarterback of the future.
00:53You know, when you look and you have a forecasted pick like that out two drafts and you get no
01:00immediate relief, there is no mistake about it.
01:04You're looking at replacing the quarterback.
01:07Here, if you go into the 2027 draft and say the Eagles with all their fans saying that they're going
01:13to win the Super Bowl and they pick at 32.
01:15The Patriots are going to be a good football team.
01:18The Patriots are going to win at least 10 or 11 football games this year.
01:22That means you're talking about the 27th or 28th pick in the draft.
01:26Okay?
01:27So with the 32nd and the 27th pick, you're going to move up to do what?
01:31Get an edge rusher if you use that 28th pick in the 27th draft?
01:37No way.
01:38You're going to be waiting to see how Jalen Hurts operates this year if he can operate this new offense.
01:45There's no coincidence that they moved up three spots to get Mekhi Lemon from Southern Cal.
01:51They went out, they got Hollywood Brown.
01:53They went out and they paid $14 million from Dontavian Wicks from the Green Bay Packers.
01:58Hell, they even added Elijah Moore.
02:00They have completely gone to a West Coast-style offense when it comes to play calling because of the hiring
02:06of Sean Mannion, who comes from the Sean McVay tree of play calling.
02:11This guy's never been a play caller before, and now we're going to see if Jalen Hurts can actually run
02:17a pro-style offense.
02:19I don't believe he can.
02:21This is going to be a tell-all year.
02:24Jalen Hurts was eligible for a contract extension.
02:27And the Eagles told Nicole Lynn and the folks at Clutch Sports, they're not in a position right now to
02:35give Jalen Hurts a contract extension.
02:37You would have thought a quarterback with that resume would have been entitled to an extension.
02:44Look at the quarterbacks that are working on deals now, especially like Lamar Jackson.
02:49Lamar Jackson has not made it to a Super Bowl, and they're talking about paying him in excess of $61
02:54million.
02:55You look at Hurts' resume, it can't be about winning.
02:59It's got to be about style of play.
03:01Guy's been to two Super Bowls.
03:03He's won two NFC championships.
03:05He's won a Super Bowl, and he's won an MVP.
03:08If you're not going to pay people on that, why aren't you giving that a contract extension?
03:14It's very simple.
03:15They don't believe the quarterback is the future of that team, or they would have given him one.
03:20Look, you run, when you see a resume like that, you pay that player for his accomplishments.
03:30Why would the Eagles not?
03:31Very simple.
03:32They don't believe that style of play is winnable when it comes to the future of the Eagles.
03:40Look at how they're changing a very old football team already.
03:44Next two years, you're going to be getting rid of Barkley.
03:47Lane Johnson's going to be retiring.
03:49You're talking about maybe even Landon Dickerson retiring.
03:53So, a lot of question marks going into this 26th season.
03:57Now, for the Patriots.
03:59The Patriots are going to get a 1,500-yard receiver this year.
04:03Drake May is going to have finally a weapon.
04:08Stephon Diggs was a good player.
04:10A.J. Brown is an exceptional player.
04:12Plus, you have one of the most important things that A.J. Brown wants.
04:18Not just Drake May.
04:19He also has what?
04:21Josh McDaniels.
04:23Make no mistake about it.
04:25Josh McDaniels is not a great head football coach.
04:29Josh McDaniels is the best play-calling OC in pro football right now.
04:35There is no doubt about it.
04:38He is the best play-caller.
04:40And that is going to scheme up a guy like A.J. Brown for numerous targets and multiple catches.
04:49This is a win-win.
04:50I think, personally, that the Patriots got the win on the front side of this.
04:56But I think, at the back end of this, potentially, depending on Howie Roseman, the general manager of the Eagles,
05:03uses those draft picks, we may end up seeing again.
05:06Both parties end up coming out on top.
05:09I think Drake May and A.J. Brown are going to have a great 2026.
05:15And you get a chance to go back and play with a coach that you revere in Mike Vrabel.
05:21You watch A.J. go up there, and he is going to be an all-pro wide receiver.
05:26There is no doubt they are a better football team.
05:30The Eagles are not a better football team without A.J. Brown on it.
