00:00Even by his standards, so, yeah, he had gone there, he had been faster before,
00:04but now Leclerc has to back out of that one.
00:06He will get another go, but maybe not when the tyres are at their best.
00:09And that could happen in qualifying, Jenson.
00:12Carlos Sainz was backing up because Bortoleto was backing up to start his lap,
00:16and that train chain reaction, Charles Leclerc got in the back hole.
00:21Yeah, the difference is if that happened in Q1, he should complete the lap,
00:25because he might lose half the second there,
00:27but he's just got to get across the line and get a lap in.
00:31We have.
00:32Because he's quick enough, you know.
00:34Half second isn't going to change his world in Q1.
00:36He needs to get a lap.
00:38Russell hasn't had a very shiny first sector.
00:40You can see the bottom of the screen.
00:42Second sector's a bit better.
00:44Four and a half tenths down.
00:45Yeah, I don't know what happened through the first couple of corners for Russell.
00:49We didn't see it.
00:50This is his second flying lap.
00:52He backed off in the middle sector on his first flying lap.
00:56He's backed off again.
00:58Well, do you know what?
00:59If he backs off and now boots it from here, that wouldn't be bad.
01:04He's got his teammate, Kimi Antonelli, and a lovely, lovely gap to Nico Hülkenberg,
01:08but that's not what he's doing.
01:10He's going to go for cooling the tyres down and go again later on.
01:15But Antonelli, so far, the only one that's properly hooked up a lap and got the best out of the
01:21brand new tyre.
01:23And the last sector, two tenths off his best.
01:25He looked like he had more front grip than he expected, didn't he, in Rascas.
01:28He turned in a little bit too early.
01:30He had to turn back out.
01:31Yeah, he had a double stab at it, didn't he?
01:33So there's a bit more time to find for Antonelli there.
01:37Well, here's Lewis Hamilton, and the car in front of him is George Russell,
01:41who keeps out of the way, and Hamilton in the first sector.
01:44A long way down on Kimi Antonelli, three tenths of a second.
01:48But the first sector hasn't been where Lewis Hamilton's been making up the time so far this weekend.
01:53The sliding of the car and the rear of that Ferrari,
01:57still very much evident to pivot him around to get in that straight line and get the power down again.
02:02Yeah, I feel like others potentially have caught up in terms of car balance overnight,
02:06and the Ferrari seems like the same balance that they had yesterday,
02:10especially on Lewis's side of the garage, with the car just a bit skittish,
02:14the rear moving around all the time and losing time as he goes.
02:17Another two tenths in the second sector.
02:20This is not going to be the fastest lap of the session so far.
02:24Whilst Hamilton struggles somewhat, Max Verstappen on his latest lap
02:28was the same three tenths down on Antonelli through the first sector.
02:32Bortoletto goes fifth fastest, Hamilton goes second fastest,
02:35made up a little bit in the final part of the lap,
02:37and three tenths behind Kimi Antonelli.
02:40Here's Max Verstappen next to cross the line,
02:43and does so fifth fastest only.
02:48I'm surprised at the huge gaps that we have compared to Antonelli's time,
02:53but seeing Bortoletto's time just over a second away gives me confidence that others just,
03:00they just haven't hooked the lap up, they haven't done the lap.
03:03The Clare pops up in the second with a 13-0, finally three tenths away,
03:07but most certainly the tyre has lost a bit of that, that juice that it has at the start.
03:12You can't forget that Kimi lost two tenths, though, in the last sector.
03:16You've got it together, that's a 12-5.
03:19That's, you know, over half a second quicker than a second.
03:21It's really, really impressive.
03:2212-5 compares really well with FP3 last year,
03:26which was a 1-10-9 at the end of a regulation cycle.
03:29This is at the beginning of a regulation cycle.
03:32Mass and A, Oliver Baerman has stopped there.
03:35You can see the Haas and the double-waved yellows,
03:38so no point going on a flying lap now because nothing will count.
03:40This is going to be a red flag, I think, while they clear up all that debris.
03:43Yeah, it is a red flag because he's hit the arm code.
03:45He's lost the rear wing of that Haas.
03:48Now, how many times do we see this?
03:51And I'm glad Oli Baerman says he's okay.
03:53That's brilliant.
03:54But how many times do we see this in Q3, roundabout this moment,
03:59the drivers start pushing and corners like Mass and they catch them out.
04:03It's called out some of the best.
04:05Fernando's been in that wall, Charles's been in that wall.
04:07Yeah, it's not nice.
04:10It's still got all four of its wheels on the car, which is a surprise.
04:13Yeah, one of them looks a little bit deflated.
04:16Yeah.
04:16The problem is when it gets to this stage in the proceedings
04:19is that you start getting marbles building on the exit of the offline.
04:23And if you have a little moment, it can turn into a much bigger moment
04:27as soon as you ride onto those marbles of discarded rubber.
04:32And there's camber there as well.
04:34If you get out too wide, the camber continues to drag you towards the barrier.
04:39Medical cars there as a precaution because of the impact
04:44and the G-force when Oli would have made contact with the barriers.
04:47He might well have spun a little bit.
04:51And I think he's saying, he said to the team that it's his fault.
04:54He's accepted, it is driver error and has apologised.
04:57There he goes, and we're on board now with George Russell.
05:01Not quite seen.
05:02I think that was the Cadillac.
05:02Yeah, that was the Cadillac.
05:03Oh, here he goes, there.
05:05Oh, I just think he went extra wide to the Mercedes.
05:08Not that Russell did anything wrong.
05:11Oh, yeah.
05:14Not that Russell was, I mean, there's nowhere else he could have gone.
05:17He couldn't have gone any further left.
05:19But I do think Spearman was just, he was just distracted.
05:24I, I, that's a tricky one for me.
05:26I think you've got to see the on board of Behrman, because he was wider.
05:30You can see the dust.
05:31You can see the dust because he is so wide.
05:33He wouldn't have chosen to go that way, that wide.
05:35It's a really difficult corner to pick your line anyway.
05:38But then if there's a car kind of in the way, it's tough.
05:41So I've got to wait for that video.
05:43Can I just say, great work from the marshals there.
05:46Those yellow flags were being waved very, very quickly.
05:49They're always exceptional here in Monaco.
05:52And they've got these massive cranes everywhere as well to do exactly that.
05:56Yeah, exactly.
05:56How quickly is that?
05:57The car's off the track already.
05:59It's impressive.
06:00Yeah.
06:01They need to be as well.
06:02We've got a session to try and get resumed as well.
06:05On board with Charlotte Clare and the garage.
06:07But we can go on board once again.
06:10And look at how quickly the marshals gets the yellow flag out.
06:14It bears only making contact.
06:15And by the time the Mercedes is on the seat, the marshals are already waiting.
06:19Oh, wait.
06:22George would have a, I don't understand, reaction to it.
06:26So he's just gone, he's gone too wide.
06:30The camber and the dust has just left him with no grip at the rear to make that turning.
06:36Yeah, Jensen's right.
06:38We need the on board of Behrman.
06:42Because George is, he's quickly getting onto the racing line as he gets closer to the apex of the corner,
06:48of course.
06:50But there's nowhere else he can go.
06:52He can't disappear when you're at that part of the track.
06:54And he's already had a Cadillac overtake him.
06:57And, yeah, you're desperately trying to look in the right-hand mirror to see where another car's coming.
07:01And it does, it takes two in that scenario, I think.
07:05And, you know, Behrman realises there's a car on the inside.
07:08Oh, we're going to see you fun?
07:09No.
07:10Still the off-board shot.
07:14Yeah, ideally for Behrman, you want to start drifting over to your left a little bit more before you start
07:18to apex.
07:21Sorry, guys.
07:23It's the bottomy.
07:25Are you okay?
07:26Yeah.
07:28Oh, my gosh, guys.
07:30I'm so sorry.
07:31I'm so sorry.
07:34We'll get it fixed for quality, all right?
07:36As long as you're okay.
07:37I was going to say, actually, as he's making his way up towards the crest, there is a bump.
07:43And you can see the car unsettled a bit by the bump.
07:45And whether he's in the wrong place for that bump at that moment is another matter.
07:50But I think it made a contribution to what happened.
07:54I think being slightly off-line, the bump may be bigger.
07:58It's something he hasn't experienced before, and that's what's really caught him out.
08:01Looking at the corner analysis of turn 10, so this is the Nouvelle Chicane.
08:06And you can just see Antonelli is able to brake a little bit later than Leclerc and just hang on
08:11to that speed the whole way through the corner.
08:13Three tenths.
08:13Three tenths in one corner.
08:14Yeah, it's impressive.
08:17But when we were watching it live, Jensen, we both looked at each other because the direction change in that
08:24part was so impressive.
08:26He's got it completely on the right line as well.
08:29The thing is, and the difficulty with this track is the repeatability.
08:32Just because you can do it once doesn't mean you're going to definitely do it again in Q3, as his
08:37final sector proved as well.
08:39He couldn't, so far, on his best lap, repeat what he had done earlier on.
08:43And that's just what this place is like.
08:45So almost impossibly hard to get the perfect lap.
08:48You basically never will.
08:49Yeah, and also your mood is completely different when you go into qualifying.
08:52You've got more adrenaline, more excitement.
08:54So things change.
08:55You tighten up in certain situations.
08:57Bernie Collins, down to you.
08:58Yes, a very noisy but not yet busy piddly in a coffee.
09:02All the cars, you can see, fired up.
09:04All the mechanics in front waiting to release the car.
09:07Everyone is looking at a screen for a restart time.
09:10They cannot go until we get a restart time.
09:13So it is very much hurry up and wait here.
09:16And as soon as it happens, coffee, as soon as we see that time on the screen,
09:20this pet lane is going to get very, very busy indeed.
09:24So we're not sure when it's going to happen.
09:27Neither are the teams.
09:27But they're all desperate to get the final few laps of this qualifying session in
09:33to try and get that perfect lap together, like you say.
09:38So I'm not sure that we're going to get it in the time that I'm here with you, Crofty.
09:41But if we did, you can only imagine.
09:44And this is what happens at the point.
09:45That's why cars have ran early in this session.
09:48We don't normally see the second soft tyre go on with close to 30 minutes of the session remaining.
09:55The reason it's gone on a bit early and it's benefited Kimi Antonelli, as we spoke about,
10:00is he's got that clear track.
10:02He's got the run done before the red flag.
10:05Because in these final, I guess, 10 minutes of qualifying,
10:08it is going to be very, very tricky to find the optimum phase on track
10:12and get that lap in to try and get it done.
10:16So I'm not sure it's going to happen in the time that I'm speaking to you, Crofty.
10:19I'll probably fill it as much as I can.
10:21But it's going to be hectic in this quickly when it happens.
10:24And hopefully we can run it to you.
10:26Thanks ever so much, Bernie.
10:28The race director has been inspecting the guardrail, the arm coat,
10:32on the exit at Massonet after that crash with Ollie Behrman in the Haas.
10:38And that's why we're taking a little bit longer, I think, to get going again.
10:42The track is clear.
10:43But I've been told by the FIA that the guardrail damage being inspected on site
10:47by the race director.
10:49We're overlooking the pit lane.
10:51We can't see, obviously, Massonet.
10:54And we're watching shots of the pit lane.
10:56So I don't know if the race director is still there or not.
10:59If anyone is stood near Casino Square and you want to message me, please do.
11:04And we'll find out what is going on there.
11:08But for the teams, they want to get out and they want to try and get another run in.
11:13Alex Albon has just come on the radio and said, right, quick release here.
11:18Don't let anyone get in the way.
11:20And to be honest, if you're down that end of the pit lane,
11:23well, William's kind of in the middle, that's not a bad place to be here.
11:27If you are Mercedes, you might be stuck right at the back of a queue
11:33and not much chance to get a lap in.
11:35And for Kimi Antonelli, the last classified finisher in Monaco in 2025,
11:40after he hit the barrier at the chicane in Q1, broke the rear of the car,
11:45started 15th, finished 18th, had a pretty horrible Monaco,
11:49he might have returned 12 months on, well, definitely as a championship leader,
11:53and now very much a contender for pole.
11:56Yeah, I agree.
11:57And this is the perfect practice for qualifying, isn't it?
12:00They've been sat in the garage for a while.
12:02The tension, the adrenaline's, you know, rising.
12:06A lot of pressure just to get this lap in and really feel what the car is
12:09and know what they can do with the car around here.
12:12So, yeah, this is really key for all of them to understand qualifying in a couple of hours.
12:17It's amazing, isn't it, looking at Kimi Antonelli,
12:20the difference to take off that turnaround from last year,
12:23the race to forget for him last season here,
12:27and he crashed and wasn't quick enough.
12:29And to come back here really goes to show what confidence.
12:33Leading the championship, won multiple races,
12:36that confidence is what you need for a circuit like this.
12:38And, I mean, on paper, you would have seen a racing driver pretty much fresh out of go-karting
12:45would have been in their element on a track like this,
12:48but it didn't work for him last year.
12:50Change a car and a whole rest of season to work on what went wrong here last year.
12:57Coming here with that wave of confidence is seeing him through now.
13:01And what a turnaround from the team as well,
13:03because they look like they really weren't in the game yesterday.
13:05Yeah, really impressive.
13:08For me, it's the Turn 1 performance on new tyres that's impressive.
13:13You know, he's putting in two to three tenths into most people out there,
13:16because he has that confidence when he first hits the brake into Turn 1 into Santa Pop,
13:21that the car is going to do what he wants it to do.
13:24Sorry, just slightly distracted by some news.
13:27Session's going to resume at 13.26, one minute and ten seconds.
13:32Now, we've got a session resuming time.
13:35Now the cars can leave the garages.
13:38Hello to you. Nice to see you waving.
13:41Nice to see the fans. Can we see the cars coming up?
13:43Thank you very much, because that was actually a bit more important.
13:46To see who actually has made it to the front of the queue.
13:49And we've still got 50-odd seconds before the light goes green,
13:51but this is important, because some are going to get a lap in here, and some aren't.
13:55Well, we have four and a half minutes.
13:59It's going to start in 35 seconds now.
14:03So, yeah, I think everyone's going to get a lap in.
14:05It's just whether it's the first or the second.
14:08Are they? They'll stagger it, won't they?
14:10Kind of leave seven seconds if they can,
14:12ten seconds before they cross the line to get on the track.
14:16And then you've got the inevitable car park down at Rascast
14:19before they decide to get going.
14:21That's a good practice for qualifying.
14:23It is. Especially, well, for Q1 especially, yeah.
14:25But this might happen at the end of Q1.
14:28Yeah.
14:28This is actually a good simulation for what might happen at the end.
14:32But then you've got to...
14:32Can you learn from it, though?
14:34That's the thing.
14:35It's just a mess, whatever.
14:37You've just got to deal with what you get given, I guess.
14:40Out they come.
14:41And Cadillac at that end, at the exit end of the pit lane,
14:44with Perez and Bottas first onto the track.
14:46McFranco, Colopinto, almost shoving the Cadillac along.
14:50He's on a new set of soft tyres, Colopinto,
14:52because of the damage, of course, to his rear wing.
14:54He's a bit out of sync with everyone else.
14:56Right at the back of the queue,
14:58there's Lewis Hamilton in the Ferrari,
15:01and the car's streaming up towards Massonet.
15:03And the fight is on now to prepare your tyres
15:06to get them into some sort of temperature window.
15:09You haven't got two laps to do it.
15:10You've only got the one.
15:12Get your brakes up to temperature as well and find a gap.
15:16Good luck.
15:17Yeah, exactly.
15:17Often when this happens,
15:18when you have a short break of sort of 10 minutes,
15:21the circuit is slower.
15:24It does take a little bit of a setback,
15:26which I found in qualifying many times before,
15:28but we will see.
15:32For driving, whether they get the fastest time or not,
15:35or improve the time,
15:36it's the drivers getting their eye in one more time, isn't it?
15:39Sometimes even, I found as well when I was racing,
15:42that even in a red flag situation,
15:44you've got recovery vehicles on the circuit driving around
15:47and debris to sweep up,
15:49and it just creates that, only for a lap or two,
15:52the extra dust and grime that goes on.
15:54And you feel that from inside the car.
15:56And they only have a lap or two.
15:57Sounds like a racing driver excuse.
15:59I used it many times,
16:00but I was always convinced that that was the case.
16:04Look at that.
16:05Do you actually have a book
16:06that you all keep between yourselves
16:08of great excuses?
16:09Sorry, it's a secret code.
16:11It's growing every year.
16:13Come on, I've driven an F1 car too.
16:15Let me in on the book.
16:19What do you mean, yeah, whatever.
16:21There's Oli Pearman.
16:23Off to find his book.
16:24Off to find the book.
16:25No, he's already said sorry.
16:26The book won't help him out
16:27and they'll examine exactly what went on there.
16:30There was a bump.
16:31He was a bit far out to the right-hand side.
16:33There is damage
16:34and I hope they can fix it in time
16:35for qualifying.
16:36Two minutes to go of this session then.
16:38And we are on some laps,
16:40making his way up Massonet,
16:43Gabriel Bortoleto,
16:46Oscar Piastri,
16:47Esteban Ocon,
16:47also in the house.
16:49Here's Charles Leclerc
16:50making his way
16:51through the swimming pool chicane.
16:53He's going to go for a proper
16:54flat-out lap in a moment.
16:57These brakes are horrendous.
17:00Horrendous.
17:00Don't think his brakes
17:01are at anywhere near a temperature
17:03that he wants them to be at,
17:05but let's see.
17:06He can still do another lap.
17:07He can, yeah.
17:08To get them warmed up.
17:10Yeah.
17:11It's a fair point
17:12because he's got
17:121 minute 30 on the clock
17:14as he makes his way
17:15into Sander Vought.
17:16It'd be tight,
17:16but he could do it.
17:17Jensen, thank you.
17:18You've got to make your way down
17:19to the paddock.
17:21You know what, Crocky?
17:21That's a really good thing
17:22about this generation of cars
17:24on this circuit.
17:25One thing I hadn't thought about.
17:26Last year,
17:27you wouldn't have had
17:28the battery
17:29to do two laps consecutively.
17:30You would have had to
17:31have charged it up again.
17:32Whereas now,
17:33you've got so much potential
17:34to charge it.
17:36You can stay in overtake mode
17:37every lap.
17:38You can stay with full deployment
17:40lap after lap after lap.
17:42Yeah.
17:42And they're going to need to
17:43today as well.
17:44As long as the tyres
17:45aren't overheating,
17:47they can do all that.
17:48Perez is on a flyer
17:50and improving
17:50on his first sector
17:52and the only one so far
17:53that has made an improvement
17:55on any sector time.
17:57We are on board
17:57with Max Verstappen
17:59down towards
18:00the Nouvelle Chicane.
18:01Heavy on the brakes
18:02and just get as close
18:04to the arm curl
18:05on entry and exit
18:06as you possibly dare.
18:07Hülkenberg's improved
18:08on his first sector time.
18:11This is team-mate,
18:12Gabriel Bortoleto.
18:13Bottas is improving
18:14out there as well
18:15but by nowhere near
18:16what he needs
18:17to make an impact
18:17into the top 15.
18:19The Stappen
18:20has crossed the line,
18:23is making his way
18:24to the line.
18:25He's got 10 seconds
18:26to do it
18:26to start a final lap.
18:27He's got his team-mate,
18:28Isaac Hadjar,
18:29right behind him
18:30in the queue,
18:30starting at Rascas already
18:32as the Ferrari
18:33of Charles Leclerc
18:34starts his final lap
18:36and off
18:36into the runoff area
18:37goes the Williams
18:40and that is going
18:41to be yellow flags
18:42down there
18:42and that's going
18:43to curtail
18:44people behind him.
18:45I would imagine
18:46Max Verstappen
18:47might have come
18:47across a yellow flag there.
18:49Anyone that crosses
18:50the line now,
18:51the clock has ticked,
18:52there's checker flags
18:53out so it doesn't matter
18:54but Charles Leclerc
18:54just made it through.
18:57I mean,
18:57is that the brakes
18:58that is hindering
18:59in there once again?
19:00The rear was all over the place
19:02stepping out
19:02the whole way through.
19:03That looked like
19:03Lewis Hamilton's Ferrari
19:04as he got on the power there,
19:06you know,
19:06the slider away
19:07where the car's
19:08behaving the same.
19:09That was happening
19:10on the brake
19:10so quickly
19:11towards the apex
19:12so he's really not happy
19:14with the feeler
19:15under his left foot
19:16and that's not
19:17the kind of memory
19:18you want to take in
19:19to qualifying
19:20as your last lap
19:21in FP3.
19:22The way the car
19:23behaved there
19:24in many ways
19:26you'd have to say
19:27perhaps it wasn't
19:28ideal to send
19:29to send them out
19:31for this last lap
19:31and a half.
19:32Verstappen pushing
19:33but not improving
19:34and the track
19:36maybe settled down
19:37a little bit
19:37and not offering up
19:38a chance to improve.
19:40We're going to have
19:41a few questions
19:42unanswered
19:42going into qualifying here.
19:45Max Verstappen
19:45will cross the line
19:47and stay
19:47fifth fastest.
19:48Does so.
19:49Kimi Antonelli
19:50by three tenths
19:51of a second
19:51with the quickest time here.
19:53Hajar stays where he is
19:55in eighth fastest.
19:56Sainz did improve
19:57to go 12th fastest
19:59and Valtteri Bottas
20:01went ahead
20:02of Alonso's stroll
20:03back in the garage.
20:04Kimi Antonelli's dad
20:05on the wall
20:08by the pits
20:09watching his son
20:10out on track.
20:11Fastest in free practice
20:13three
20:13for the man
20:15who leads the championship
20:16and took four poles
20:18in a row
20:19at the settle
20:19for the front row
20:20in Canada
20:21and still won
20:22and has put himself
20:24right in contention here
20:25a day after
20:26Mercedes just didn't
20:27look on the pace.
20:27Exactly.
20:28So the team
20:29have turned things around.
20:30Kimi Antonelli
20:30have turned things around
20:31from not just yesterday
20:32as well
20:33but from last year.
20:35Really impressive stuff
20:36from the young Italian.
20:39A huge lock-up
20:41for Leclerc
20:41into the Nouvelle Chicane.
20:43I get the feeling
20:44he's starting to
20:45he's starting to get
20:46into his head
20:47this as well.
20:48I know there
20:48there are
20:49visible problems
20:50as well
20:51but he's seriously
20:53unhappy with his brakes
20:54and I get the feeling
20:55he's trying things
20:56as well
20:56and at the end
20:58of FP3
20:59literally on your in-lap
21:00it's not
21:00the ideal time
21:02to start trying things
21:03before qualifying.
21:04But what do you do
21:05if you're Ferrari here
21:07after dominating yesterday
21:09and looking like
21:10only Max Verstappen
21:11was their threat
21:12well suddenly
21:14you can put
21:15Kimi Antonelli
21:16and George Russell
21:17and maybe Oscar Piastri
21:18into that mix as well
21:20and Lando Norris
21:21who is a little bit
21:23further adrift
21:23but you're no longer
21:25the front runners
21:26because you've gone
21:27a certain way
21:28do you then go back
21:29to where you were
21:30yesterday
21:30or have things
21:31moved on a pace
21:32too much?
21:33Let's take a look
21:34at this
21:35Albon lock-up
21:36into Sandoval
21:38and that was
21:39a good decision
21:39he just saw
21:40that's basically
21:41what Colopinto
21:42should have done
21:42yesterday
21:43he just saw
21:43the inside front
21:44start to lock
21:45realised he wasn't
21:46probably going to
21:47make the corner
21:47and then just
21:48darted left
21:48here's the moment
21:49for Leclerc
21:50on the brakes
21:51rear brakes
21:52just lock in
21:53too much
21:53and then in
21:54frustration
21:55kicking the throttle
21:56down on the exit
21:57what's Norris
21:57been up to
21:58through the chicane
21:59he knew that
22:01had he taken
22:01the chicane
22:02he was heading
22:03towards a Ferrari
22:04I got it my way
22:06I did it on purpose
22:09I was just
22:10you're just
22:10building up
22:11the lat
22:11everyone's
22:12seems like
22:13everyone was
22:13on an out lap
22:14there or something
22:14but
22:17Norris
22:19exaggerated it
22:19to the lat
22:20to turn 15
22:21and it make
22:22it look like
22:22I'm looking at
22:24so I'm copying
22:25turn 15
22:26is the entry
22:27into the final part
22:28of the swimming pool
22:29chicane
22:29where Norris
22:30then went off
22:32amazing what you
22:33can see in your
22:33mirrors there
22:34I don't know
22:35whether Norris
22:36was on a fast lap
22:37and Lewis wasn't
22:38or whether
22:38they're both
22:38on out laps
22:39and it's not
22:40the first time
22:40we've seen
22:41and heard drivers
22:42complaining about
22:43being blocked
22:44when they were
22:44both on out laps
22:45which I completely
22:46disagree with
22:47they shouldn't
22:48be doing that
22:48but if Norris
22:50was on a genuine
22:50fast lap
22:51then he does have
22:52something to
22:53complain about
22:54well it's a long
22:55way up to the top
22:56if you're on a bike
22:57but what a view
22:59from there
23:00overlooking
23:01Monaco
23:02and what a practice
23:04session
23:04plenty of incidents
23:06plenty of excitement
23:07and plenty of questions
23:09still unanswered
23:10and it's Kimi Antonelli
23:11the third different
23:12driver to top
23:13a practice session
23:14this weekend
23:15by three tenths
23:16from Charles Leclerc
23:17and the same
23:18pretty much three tenths
23:19from Lewis Hamilton
23:20the Ferrari split
23:21by only four milliseconds
23:22George Russell
23:23in the top four
23:24Max Verstappen
23:25in the top five
23:26and Oscar Piastri
23:27the only other driver
23:28within a second
23:29of the fastest time
23:30Bortoletto
23:31still in that top ten
23:32Nico Hülkenberg
23:33still in that top ten
23:34Audi still going well
23:35Lando Norris
23:36only ninth
23:37and Hadjar eighth
23:37and after that
23:39Oli Behrmann
23:39had a crash
23:41at Massonet
23:42which broke the rear
23:44of the car
23:45let's hope they can fix
23:46that at Haas
23:47in time
23:47for qualifying to come
23:49Franco Colapinto
23:50had some work done
23:51on his rear wing
23:52after tapping the barrier
23:54at the hairpin
23:54Lance Stroll
23:55was the slowest driver
23:563.2 seconds
23:57between them
23:58Kimi Antonelli
23:59championship leader
24:00fastest in practice
24:06yeah
24:07right in the mix
24:08in the thick of things
24:10problems
24:10for Charles Leclerc
24:11we'll discuss that shortly
24:12we'll also speak
24:13to Toto Wolff
24:14as well
24:14qualifying gets underway
24:15from 2.15
24:17but we've got an extended
24:18build down now
24:20and then we're back on air
24:2212.30 on Sunday
24:23with a race getting underway
24:24at 2 o'clock
24:26all this to look forward to
24:27in the build ups
24:38eggs are finished
24:39eggs are finished
24:40right we're up
24:41oh the avocado
24:42so I'll just leave
24:43I've done the avocado
24:43don't worry
24:44yeah but we need to slice it
24:45I've done the avocado
24:46you've done it
24:47done it
24:48oh yeah
24:48all right
24:52who's standing
24:52with your two chairs
24:56yeah where are my other
24:57two chairs
25:00have a look at this
25:01it was absolutely
25:03extraordinary
25:04look at the dust
25:05and the track
25:06was a little bit
25:07different back then
25:07for me this was
25:08another sport
25:09honestly
25:11these guys were
25:12were crazy
25:14but it's so nice
25:15to see these
25:15these images
25:16and to see also
25:17and appreciate
25:18how much
25:18Monaco have
25:19have changed
25:20since then
25:25right
25:25yeah
25:27you're gonna take me home
25:28get a nice
25:29good night's sleep
25:29yeah
25:30back that way
25:31yeah
25:31it's hard to describe
25:32to people
25:33what it's like
25:33to drive around
25:34the streets of Monaco
25:35in any race car
25:36but especially
25:37in a Formula 1 car
25:37because it's one
25:38of the most insane
25:39tracks to drive
25:40so when you get
25:41to live here
25:42drive it
25:43and then win here
25:44it's one of the best
25:45feelings you can imagine
25:50welcome to the queue
25:51come on Jensen
25:52we can go over now
25:53everyone follow us
25:54we're gonna make our way
25:55across the bridge now
25:57to get into the pit lane
25:58so we can have a quick
26:00chat with Toto Wolf
26:01and Toto will be pretty
26:02happy with what he saw
26:03from his young
26:04charge there
26:05Jensen
26:06he was on it
26:06from the word go
26:07wasn't he
26:08you know
26:08Kimi slept on it
26:09I actually saw
26:09Kimi at breakfast
26:10he seemed very
26:12very relaxed
26:13and you can see
26:14that in his driving
26:15so much confidence
26:16you know
26:17on those new tyres
26:18he's able to get
26:19into turn one
26:19on St. DeVos with so much
26:21confidence and that just
26:22carries through the rest
26:22of the lap
26:23I'm so impressed with it
26:24I mean session by session
26:26he's kind of legend
26:27builds here
26:28doesn't it
26:28I mean the way that he
26:30just approaches everything
26:31there's no fear in his
26:32driving
26:33is that a fair thing to say
26:34yeah there's definitely not
26:35and I think when you're
26:3619 years old
26:36that's the way it is
26:37fear hasn't crept in yet
26:39which is a massive bonus
26:42for him
26:44but he has obviously
26:45a year and a half
26:46of experience now
26:47under his belt
26:47and there's so much
26:48pressure on his shoulders
26:49though
26:49but he's able to handle it
26:51just look at that
26:52we've just been seeing
26:52pictures obviously
26:53with him with Pete Bonington
26:54who is his race engineer
26:57now talking to his dad
26:58Marco
26:58I mean he's look
26:59he's got a really good
27:00pool of people
27:01that are shepherding
27:03through this
27:03this early part of his career
27:05and the experience
27:05that Bono has
27:06we talk about it so often
27:08you know being race engineer
27:10through all of that
27:11successful period
27:11with Lewis and Mercedes
27:12I think we've got to go
27:14this way Jensen
27:14I mean it just
27:15it could be absolutely
27:16invaluable for him
27:18yeah yeah
27:18I mean the team have won
27:19multiple world championships
27:20they have
27:21they have a lot of experience
27:23Toto obviously
27:23with his leadership
27:24but as you said Bono
27:26you know
27:26I worked with Bono
27:27for a couple of years
27:29and well quite a few years
27:31actually when I was at McLaren
27:32and yeah
27:33phenomenal what he
27:34what he can do
27:35sorry not McLaren
27:36at Honda
27:37yeah
27:38I was going to say
27:38what does he bring
27:39though as a race engineer
27:40what are his strengths
27:42experience obviously
27:43but his calmness as well
27:45in decision making
27:46that's a big part of it
27:48and we all understand
27:49racing drivers have
27:50they all have big personalities
27:52very emotional
27:53and I think he's very good
27:54at calming a driver down
27:56in tricky situations
27:58100%
27:58you see it all the time
28:00right
28:02issue for those
28:03Charles Leclerc there
28:04on the brakes
28:04I mean
28:05that was something
28:06that I don't think we were
28:07or he was even expecting
28:08no
28:09he seemed quite upset
28:10on the radio
28:10obviously it was just after
28:13being in the garage
28:13for a little while
28:14so the brakes are cooling down
28:15but he couldn't get them working
28:17and as we saw
28:18Mirabeau
28:19big lock up at the rear
28:20on the entry
28:20and then a big snap of overs
28:22during the exit
28:22so they're going to have a bit of work to do
28:23doesn't fill you full of confidence
28:25either going into qualifying
28:26I've just given Toto a wave
28:28he was upstairs
28:29I think he's coming down
28:30but I'm not sure which way
28:31he's going to pop out here
28:32yeah I mean
28:33I swear
28:34I mean I think it's going to be
28:35one of those
28:35one of those sessions
28:36isn't it
28:36it just
28:37it looks like it
28:38for those top three
28:39there are some big gaps though
28:40to the others
28:41I think it's just a shame
28:42we were denied
28:43you know
28:44a period of 10
28:4410-15 odd minutes there
28:46because the Behrman crash
28:47yeah the gaps aren't that big
28:48they're going to be a lot closer
28:49it was just people
28:51some people didn't get their laps together
28:52but that can also happen
28:53in qualifying as well
28:54Toto
28:55right well
28:56everyone came into this weekend
28:57saying Ferrari
28:58Ferrari Ferrari
28:59this is a Ferrari track
29:01you've got thoughts otherwise
29:02what a great
29:03yeah great session that for Camille
29:06oh
29:06yeah that was some
29:08good session
29:08for Camille
29:10fast
29:12now we just need to continue
29:13to build for qualifying
29:16and
29:18you know Leclerc's lap
29:19before
29:21before he made a mistake
29:22in 10
29:22was there or there about
29:24so it's still not going to be
29:25a walk in the park
29:26but we are very positively surprised
29:28there's quite a bit of difference
29:29between the two cars
29:30at the moment
29:30and you
29:32do you put that down
29:32to confidence
29:33because Kimi at turn one
29:34already when he starts
29:35his flying lap
29:36on new tyres
29:37he's there
29:37he brakes
29:38he has confidence in that car
29:39he knows what it's going to do
29:40and it doesn't seem
29:42just from the times
29:43that George has that same feeling
29:44I think with George
29:45you can never write him off
29:48he's going to look at the data
29:49he still didn't feel 100% confident
29:51or comfortable in the car
29:52in the way that Kimi did
29:53so I'm quite keen
29:55to see how the two are going to
29:56are going to be in qualifying
29:58Bernie's joined us
29:59hi Bernie
29:59I've just snuck in
30:00now we have an intelligent question
30:01from Bernie
30:02I had you two
30:03and now it's Bernie
30:04well let's wait and see
30:05if it's intelligent or not
30:06but I think Kimi's dad
30:08was there
30:08watched the whole session
30:09from this side of the pit wall
30:10and he said
30:11through that last section
30:13and this sort of
30:14through Kimi
30:15and that
30:15he said it
30:15yeah he did
30:16but more time to find
30:18on the board
30:18do you think for Kimi
30:19or
30:20I think you know
30:21Kimi's dad is a driver
30:22and has been part of
30:24making Kimi
30:25what he is today
30:27and if the father says
30:29that he's already
30:30quite on the limit
30:32that means
30:33you know
30:33this and no more
30:36yeah
30:36it's an experience
30:37I hope he can carry
30:39that easiness about it
30:40into qualifying
30:41and have the car fly
30:45and not be like this
30:47Toto you've been guiding
30:48his career
30:49along with Gwen
30:50and a lot of people
30:51important people
30:51Gwen Legrue
30:52within the Mercedes family
30:54how much do you
30:56are you still learning things
30:57constantly being surprised
30:59by Kimi
31:00just session by session
31:01just you know
31:02spotting different things
31:03thinking my god
31:04this kid is good
31:05for me
31:08I'm learning
31:09I'm trying to learn
31:10new stuff every day
31:12and now it's the next phase
31:14of his development
31:14he's had a difficult year
31:17he's had nine races
31:18without any points
31:18how we have overcome
31:20this was interesting
31:21how we've started the year
31:22and building the confidence
31:23without letting the pressure go
31:25and now it's the next step
31:26you know
31:26he's won so many races
31:28in a row
31:28he's becoming a real star
31:30in his own
31:30how do you do that
31:31sorry just to jump in
31:33and how do you build
31:33his confidence
31:34and work with him
31:35when he goes
31:36through those low points
31:37I think it's always
31:38to keep the balance
31:40between you know
31:40this is serious
31:43it's important for the team
31:45it's important for Mercedes
31:46but at the other time
31:47on the other side
31:48letting his talent
31:49you know flourish
31:51and I'm just one part
31:52you know
31:53there's so many
31:53starting with Bono
31:55and other people
31:56in the team
31:56that we have really built
31:58an ecosystem
31:59or let's say
32:00an environment around him
32:02to extract the most performance
32:03he's very emotional
32:05on the radio
32:05he's very outspoken
32:07says what he's really feeling
32:08at that moment in time
32:09even when he had a
32:10you know
32:10a nice lead in Miami
32:11he's questioning things
32:13that are happening
32:14with the car
32:15and then we obviously
32:16had the fight
32:16between him and George
32:17in Canada
32:19are those the tense moments
32:20you think
32:21that that's the reason
32:21why he's
32:22he's feeling like that
32:23he feels under pressure
32:25and is that something
32:26that you need to keep
32:27under control
32:28going into qualifying here
32:29understanding how important
32:30qualifying is here
32:31for this race
32:32yeah
32:33we've talked about it
32:34and we will
32:37but
32:38you know
32:39it's quite difficult
32:39do you say to him
32:40put in some bankers
32:42or do you say to him
32:43come on
32:44do just continue to do
32:45what you've always done
32:47and
32:49yeah
32:49and that's
32:50that's the difficulty
32:51in balancing
32:52my question
32:53obviously
32:54you had the issue
32:55in Canada last week
32:56for George
32:57you had the reliability
32:57I'm sorry
32:58you had the reliability
32:59issue last week
33:00in Canada for George
33:01we've seen Lando Norris
33:03obviously the CMPU
33:04have a reliability
33:04issue this week
33:06any concerns
33:07going into the race
33:08or is it all understood
33:10you know
33:10I
33:11we have
33:11identified now
33:13the failure
33:14so we know
33:15what it is
33:15not 100% yet
33:16why it happened
33:17but that's at least
33:18a containment
33:19but it was a
33:19completely new
33:21incident
33:21and
33:22you know
33:23we are all on it
33:24all over it
33:25on the engine side
33:26and I'm sure
33:27that this is part
33:28of the learning
33:28to make it very robust
33:30because it's fast
33:31what was it
33:31can you tell us
33:32what it was
33:33specifically
33:33or not
33:34no I can't tell you
33:35not because I don't want
33:36it's just because
33:37technically I couldn't
33:38describe to you
33:38what it was
33:39okay well we wouldn't
33:39understand
33:40what are you saying
33:40about Leesonby
33:41come on
33:42come on
33:43I couldn't tell you
33:44and you wouldn't
33:45understand
33:46I'm under the pump
33:46here
33:46I'm under the pump
33:47like the racing
33:48let's go back
33:49if we could
33:50a fortnight ago
33:51we talked about it
33:52afterwards obviously
33:52Toto but Canada
33:54we might not see
33:55that Toto
33:55racing this weekend
33:57in Monaco
33:58but we might next
33:59weekend in Barcelona
34:0010 years on
34:01from Rosberg
34:02Hamilton
34:02does that
34:04does that fill you
34:05with dread
34:05or does it fill you
34:06with okay
34:07we've got that
34:08going on right now
34:09within our team
34:09no I like it
34:12I think we are
34:13having a different
34:14breed of drivers
34:15now
34:17also a different
34:17generation maybe
34:18that have come
34:19through the whole
34:20system
34:20you know
34:21Nico and
34:22Lewis were superstars
34:23when they joined
34:23the team already
34:24and George
34:26and Kimia
34:26are junior drivers
34:27they understand
34:28the concept
34:29and as much as
34:30we want them
34:31to be real killers
34:32which they are
34:32they also
34:34they are part
34:35of the wider
34:36you know
34:36understanding
34:37and the mindset
34:38of the team
34:39I was just going
34:40to ask
34:40is there any
34:41priority rules
34:41for qualifying
34:42obviously this is
34:43one where
34:43sometimes getting
34:44out of the pit
34:45and first is
34:45beneficial
34:46if we have a
34:47red flag
34:47is there a priority
34:49across the garage
34:49or is it just
34:50for the race
34:51for a qualifier
34:52for qualifying
34:53there will be
34:54the same kind of
34:54order of who
34:55goes out first
34:56and I don't know
34:57who that is
34:57just a very
34:58very very quick
34:59on the ADUO
35:01the additional
35:02development
35:02what are you hearing
35:03on that
35:04at the moment
35:04Toto
35:05what do you think
35:05is going to happen
35:06we haven't heard
35:07anything
35:07you know
35:07but it needs to be
35:09by Sunday
35:09doesn't it
35:10yeah
35:10they said this week
35:12but we haven't
35:13heard
35:13okay
35:14fine
35:14I can't respond
35:15to many questions
35:16it's clearly my
35:18questioning
35:18as you keep saying
35:19thank you
35:20good luck today
35:21appreciate it
35:21Toto
35:22Anthony
35:22Skypad
35:23all yours
35:24yeah thanks Simon
35:25so yeah we're going
35:27to take a look
35:27at this Behrman
35:28incident again
35:28the beauty of the
35:29Skypad is we can
35:30stop it
35:30we can really
35:31get into it
35:32so yeah we got
35:33George Russell here
35:34looking in the mirror
35:35to see cars coming up
35:36at him
35:37and the Cadillac
35:38was the first one
35:39to come past
35:39but then
35:40the second car
35:41that comes by
35:42is of course Behrman
35:44and the dust gets
35:45kicked up
35:46and we'll look at it
35:48from a different angle
35:48he's on the bumps
35:49obviously on the way
35:50into that corner
35:51which he admitted
35:52it was his own mistake
35:54he didn't anticipate
35:55the bumps being
35:56quite there
35:57and that's what
35:57sent him off
35:59but on the next angle
36:00I'm just going to
36:01stop it for you
36:02because you can really
36:03see a bit clearer
36:04the sparks that get
36:06kicked up
36:06is pretty close
36:07the camera angle
36:09on this one
36:10but as we come up
36:11the top of the hill
36:12of Beau Rivage
36:12I'm just going to
36:13try to stop it
36:13there we go
36:14so the sparks
36:15coming out
36:16the back of the car
36:17actually I'll just
36:17go back one frame
36:18it's even worse
36:19so that bump
36:20triggering the car
36:22bottoming out
36:23you can just see
36:24I'll just draw the
36:24arrow for you
36:25this part here
36:26is what I'm talking
36:26about
36:27so that's the plank
36:27dust coming off
36:28the back of the car
36:30so already
36:31the car
36:32losing a lot of
36:33contact with the
36:34tyres there
36:34as the car
36:35hits the ground
36:36it pushes the tyres
36:37up
36:37the driver loses
36:38control of the rear
36:39and at that moment
36:40he starts to become
36:41a bit of a passenger
36:43I do feel like
36:44he's a little bit
36:45too far over
36:46to the side of the track
36:48as well
36:48don't forget
36:49there is this margin
36:51here for him
36:51to have brought it
36:52back in
36:52so I think that's
36:54why he said to the team
36:55it was his own error
36:57just a comparison
36:59this is Kimi Antonelli
37:00just on a free lap
37:02with no cars around
37:04this is the usual
37:05racing line
37:06into that corner
37:07so yeah
37:08a little bit further
37:08towards the left
37:09hand side
37:10before turning in
37:11another incident
37:12we saw
37:12no other cars
37:14involved
37:14Colopinto
37:15having a strange
37:16lock up
37:17on the rear
37:18and losing control
37:18and hitting the
37:19back wing
37:20of that Alpine
37:21into the wall
37:21and then Lawson
37:23in turn 13
37:26that's less entry
37:27to the swimming pool
37:28a real wild moment
37:29from the car
37:30big snap
37:31which he reported
37:32on the radio as well
37:33really uncomfortable
37:33with the car there
37:34and then of course
37:35that moment he had
37:36on the exit of turn 16
37:38another leery moment
37:39this time on the exit
37:40of the swimming pool
37:41beautifully captured
37:42by the heli shot there
37:44and this is the visor cam
37:46so this is what it looked like
37:47first hand for him
37:49on the exit of turn 15
37:50wow
37:50a huge handful of lock there
37:52so an incredibly hard track
37:54to master
37:55and to find that perfect lap
37:57but anywhere close
37:58to a perfect lap
37:59great to see the drivers
38:00hunting for it out there
38:02in FP3
38:02can't wait for qualifying
38:05yeah you and me too
38:06Anthony
38:07right
38:07we're going to say goodbye
38:08to viewers on main event
38:10we're going to continue
38:11on Sky Sports
38:12F1 will be back though
38:13for qualifying build up
38:14from 2.15
38:15if you want to join us here
38:16cars on track
38:17from 3 o'clock
38:18after the break though
38:19we're going to
38:20live the Monaco lifestyle
38:22with the help
38:23of Liam Lawson
38:30we did like a fun session
38:32yesterday
38:32and then today's all
38:33like the technical
38:34difficult stuff
38:37what are you listening to?
38:38drum and bass
38:39right now
38:44hold it
38:453
38:462
38:471
38:48done
38:56welcome back
38:57now saw a few hairy moments
38:59around the swimming pool section
39:00for Liam Lawson
39:01in that session
39:02but he was kind enough
39:03to let us into his flat
39:05earlier this week
39:10how long have you been there dude?
39:12in this apartment?
39:13technically since January this year
39:15you need to get some artwork
39:17why actually
39:18actually
39:19no come here
39:19I've got
39:20I've got
39:20no I've got some artwork
39:21come on look at this
39:22I basically got
39:22it is me
39:23it's just me
39:27and then
39:27there's another one of me
39:29on fire
39:30back in F3
39:30oh Dick
39:31was I showing you this?
39:34it's like the room
39:35that I dreamed of as a kid
39:36sick
39:36yeah exactly
39:37full game set up
39:38and then for decoration
39:40I have a little astronaut
39:43a rocket ship
39:44I like space a lot
39:45of course
39:46we have a piston cup
39:47with Lightning McQueen
39:49it's a big inspiration for me
39:50so
39:51it used to
39:52I need to change the batteries
39:53because it used to spin
39:54and talk to you
39:55but
39:55so at some point
39:56you will get a proper bit
39:57actually
39:59well yeah
40:00I mean my room's got a proper bit
40:01it's not my room
40:01I don't sleep in this room
40:02I have another room
40:03yeah yeah
40:03do you think this is where I slept?
40:05yeah no no no
40:05I have another room
40:08eggs are finished
40:10eggs are finished
40:11right we're up
40:11oh the avocado
40:12so I'll just leave it there for now
40:14yeah but we need to slice it
40:15I've done the avocado
40:16you've done it
40:17done it
40:18oh yeah
40:19alright
40:22alright who's standing
40:23with your two chairs
40:26yeah where are my other two chairs
40:29how many eggs?
40:31good eggs
40:31I mean to be honest
40:33I literally didn't have milk
40:35butter
40:36or anything to put in it
40:37so it's just eggs
40:39such an F1 driver
40:41I know
40:42just give us an idea
40:43of what it's like
40:45living here
40:45are you popping down to the shop
40:47see
40:47do you know what the price of milk is?
40:49well
40:52no
40:53I don't
40:57yeah
40:57like
40:58being here now
40:59I've enjoyed
41:00it a lot more
41:02I never really cared that much
41:04for a view
41:04or
41:05like even really
41:06like a place
41:07like where I lived
41:08I was
41:08I remember when I first moved
41:09to Milton Keynes
41:10I actually quite enjoyed it
41:12so
41:13it is very very different
41:15yeah
41:15I mean the weather's
41:17insane
41:18so
41:19honestly I enjoy it a lot
41:20and it's
41:21through a lot of the year as well
41:22it's very quiet here
41:23so
41:24it's quite peaceful
41:26don't get hounded by people
41:27there's a lot more famous people
41:29than me here
41:29so
41:29it's
41:30works out quite well
41:31okay
41:32the one thing I cannot stand doing
41:34is dishes
41:36oh
41:42Ollie lives in here
41:43Gabby lives in here
41:47and I think that's it
41:51yeah
41:52I've never actually ran
41:53I've only ran into Gabby
41:54in the parking lot
41:54we both parked very close to each other
41:57we both saw each other
41:59and just held the horn
42:01and it was
42:02the loudest thing I've ever heard
42:04like in an underground car park
42:05both of us just
42:06on the horn
42:07for like 30 seconds
42:10and then we just went
42:11left
42:11what about our day
42:13Declan's just doing
42:14all of the dishes right now
42:15as an F1 driver
42:16certain things
42:17have just happened magically
42:18one of those
42:19is normally tied in
42:20up
42:21right what are we on to now
42:23training
42:23go do some training
42:24there's a Lamborghini down there
42:26you can hear it
42:27there's a Ventedor
42:28just went into the tunnel
42:30proper V12 noise
42:31proper V12
42:32you can still hear it in the tunnel
42:35thanks for stopping by
42:37sorry about the breakfast
42:39yeah sorry you didn't have any breakfast
42:42my bad
42:45no
42:52it's funny how I just told you
42:53that I never get stopped
42:54and then you've walked with me
42:55it's you guys
42:56seriously
42:56because you've got a big camera
43:01thank you
43:01you're making me look good
43:02thanks guys
43:07we did like a fun session yesterday
43:09and then today's all like the technical
43:12difficult stuff
43:15drum and bass
43:17right now
43:17there's not going to be a lot of like
43:19traditional normal stuff in this session
43:20it's just
43:21it's literally just moving
43:22also playing golf later
43:23so I don't want his back massively stressed
43:25heaven forbid you compromise
43:27a decent round of golf
43:28by going to the gym
43:29that's my excuse all afternoon
43:31it's going to be this
43:37hold it
43:38three
43:39two
43:40one
43:41dump
43:44I'm trying to think if I've given you any compliments in the gym
43:47no you gave me one
43:47it was at my weakest moment ever
43:51it was
43:52trying to think of it
43:54Shanghai
43:55last year
43:56right before I got drafted from Red Bull
43:59and
43:59we were about to go out
44:00and you told me something really positive about what I did in the gym
44:03I think just to make me feel better
44:04before I got in the car
44:07since then no compliments
44:09yeah exactly what happened after it
44:10yeah okay that's true
44:12alright
44:14we are
44:15we are good
44:20oh
44:20Mr. Gere
44:23unbelievable
44:26that's a pitch noise
44:27I'm going to hit a nine
44:33you know what's great about playing on camera
44:35is we can just pretend that never happened
44:39my god Liam
44:43fine perfect
44:44yeah that was actually quite good
44:46make sure you use that shot yeah
44:58he's a good sport part two of that tomorrow
45:00like seeing inside his flat
45:02if he stays in Formula One for a couple more years
45:04he might get some artwork on the walls
45:06well he might get a cover for his bed
45:10well done Liam Lawson
45:11great great stuff
45:12let's have a look though
45:13on track at what happened
45:15for him
45:15yeah in the swimming pool section
45:17it was a little bit squirrelly for him
45:18he had a couple of
45:19very hairy moments didn't he
45:20he did but he held it together
45:22you know he had a moment on the way in
45:23super high speed
45:25and then he had this big moment
45:27oh
45:28he hit the apex curve didn't he
45:30really hard
45:32and then he had his second one here
45:34off of the curve
45:35big snap of oversteer
45:36he wasn't actually quite close to the barrier
45:37but it looked good didn't it
45:39just the way those cars are moving around
45:41in the rear end
45:42and we're seeing it a lot
45:43just because of the talk of these cars
45:44I think we might get a few moments like that
45:47in qualifying
45:47yeah you know qualifying here
45:49is all about reaction
45:50and the drivers have to
45:51keep it between the walls
45:52I was going to say white lines
45:53but very much between the walls
45:54and it is about trying to get
45:56that perfect lap together
45:57there's a lot to deal with
45:59all the traffic that's out there
46:00all the incidents going on
46:01yellow flags
46:02people in runoff
46:03people reversing out of runoff
46:04so a lot to look out for
46:06I think
46:06thousandth grand prix
46:08for McLaren this weekend
46:09and a brand spanking new motorhome
46:12within which
46:13Natalie is talking to Zach now
46:16so here we are
46:17at the most
46:18spectacular
46:19surreal
46:20special
46:20you'd have to say
46:21venue
46:22and you are celebrating
46:23something truly remarkable
46:25a thousand grand prix
46:26just tell us the emotion
46:28within the team
46:28and the sense of pride
46:29you must feel
46:30it's amazing
46:31I mean this is such a historic
46:32team iconic legendary drivers
46:35it was cool to be out here
46:36on Thursday
46:37and have a lot of our
46:38race winning drivers
46:39come out
46:40that have won with McLaren
46:42really cool to have
46:43Lewis and Fernando come out
46:46and appreciate their teams
46:47allowing them to
46:48take a moment to celebrate
46:49McLaren even though
46:50they're in other racing teams
46:52but I think that shows
46:52how much affection people have
46:54for the history
46:55of this racing team
46:56I've been a massive fan
46:57of McLaren since 1988
47:00when Senna joined
47:01because I was a Senna fan
47:02and I've loved the team
47:04ever since
47:05and it's great to be here
47:07in Monaco
47:08because thousands
47:08was going to be
47:09a couple races ago
47:10so it's ironic
47:12that it turned out
47:13to be the Monaco Grand Prix
47:14seems to be very fitting
47:15for us
47:16it really does
47:17when I saw you
47:17in the middle of that group
47:19of great drivers
47:21like world champions
47:22you were beaming with pride
47:24and I did see
47:24the fan in you
47:25I felt like a 12 year old again
47:27I mean those are all the ones
47:28I grew up watching
47:29Mika Hackett and John Watson
47:30and Gerhard Berger
47:31and Lewis Hamilton
47:32you know
47:32and so that was really
47:34it was really cool
47:35and a real privilege
47:37I think that's the fun thing
47:38about working at McLaren
47:39is every day is excited
47:41when you show up to work
47:42and Mika had the opportunity
47:43to take the M2B out
47:45from 66
47:46when Bruce McLaren
47:47drove it here
47:48for the very first time
47:49I mean that
47:49in itself is exceptional
47:51what feedback did he give you
47:52on the car?
47:52He loved the car
47:53he thought it was a bit terrifying
47:54it's amazing to think of
47:56what the drivers
47:57were doing back then
47:58the cars are unbelievably fast now
47:59but the safety thankfully
48:00has come along
48:02a long way
48:03because it wasn't long ago
48:04in Monaco
48:05people were going into the harbour
48:06so I think these drivers
48:08have a full appreciation
48:10for what the Bruce McLarens
48:11and the Jackie Stewart's
48:12and the Graham Hills
48:14did here in Monaco
48:15in the 60s and 70s
48:17so it was cool
48:18you've got a number of titles
48:19under your belt
48:20and ones that you should be
48:21incredibly proud of
48:21but it hasn't always been easy
48:23and I think one of the traits
48:25that we certainly see
48:27from the outside
48:27looking in
48:28is tenacity
48:28within the team
48:29there's a sense of
48:30really pulling together
48:31when the chips are down
48:32and pushing through
48:33is that something
48:34that you've learned to harness
48:35as the boss of the team now?
48:37What other traits
48:37do you identify
48:39within McLaren?
48:40I think our culture
48:40has been amazing
48:42the teamwork
48:42of all the men and women
48:43at McLaren
48:44has just been awesome
48:45we've won a lot of races
48:47and a lot of championships
48:48over the years
48:48and a lot of the people
48:49have been here for that
48:51but we went through
48:52a big down period
48:54a lot of credit
48:55to our two drivers
48:56they're the kind of
48:57cultural leaders
48:59and they're awesome
49:01when they put the helmet on
49:02and they're awesome
49:03when they take the helmet off
49:04and I think that brings
49:05it's a fun environment
49:07we work hard
49:08we play hard
49:09we race hard
49:10but we're great teammates
49:12to each other
49:13and it's great
49:15to finally get us back
49:16to winning races
49:18competing for championships
49:19winning championships
49:20that's what I grew up
49:22remembering
49:22of McLaren
49:24and so to get back there
49:25is pretty awesome
49:26now
49:26staying there
49:27is not so easy
49:28and what about this weekend
49:29what are your chances?
49:32from what we can see
49:33Ferrari looked pretty
49:34pretty awesome
49:36Max was always awesome
49:37Mercedes
49:38is the car to have
49:39at the moment
49:40but
49:41everyone at McLaren
49:42is working real hard
49:43we've come close
49:44to winning a couple races
49:45this year
49:46so I'm very proud
49:46of how hard
49:48the team just continues
49:49to push
49:50we've got a great race car
49:51we just need to
49:52close the gap
49:53a little bit
49:54but
49:55I'm very confident
49:56we'll get there
49:56and we'll be winning
49:57races this year
49:57yeah Lando says
49:58he feels different
49:59coming back here
50:00as a Monaco Grand Prix winner
50:01and a world champion
50:02obviously lost a lot
50:03of time yesterday
50:04have you figured out
50:04what that was all about
50:05and how's he feeling
50:07coming into quality
50:07yeah I think
50:08we're ready to go
50:10it was some sort
50:12of battery
50:12electrical issue
50:13so we just changed
50:14everything to be
50:15on the safe side
50:15so we lost all
50:16all power
50:17we team worked hard
50:19last night
50:20replace everything
50:20to be on the safe side
50:22and then we'll
50:22when we get back
50:23to the factory
50:24see exactly
50:25what happened
50:26so we took
50:26the necessary precautions
50:27we need to find
50:29some lap time
50:30around here
50:30there's a decent gap
50:31to the front
50:32but we're going to
50:34get a bit
50:34all we got
50:35we're ready to go
50:36wish you all the best
50:37thank you very much
50:40yeah might need
50:40something strange
50:41to happen this week
50:42what a difference
50:42a year makes
50:44but they're just
50:45a little way off
50:45at this weekend
50:46why is that
50:46they have been
50:48a bit off this weekend
50:49I would say in FP3
50:50they're a lot closer
50:51so they've obviously
50:51made some positive
50:52changes overnight
50:53and now they have
50:54the information
50:55from both cars
50:55hopefully that'll uplift
50:56them a little bit
50:57for qualifying
50:57and we'll see them
50:58fighting near the front
50:59yeah but Lando
51:00missing a large portion
51:02of yesterday's FP2
51:04is never going to
51:05help is it
51:06it's not going to
51:07help and it's not
51:07going to help
51:08what the work
51:08they did last night
51:09but they've both
51:10got good runs
51:11in FP3
51:12they'll take the data
51:13from that
51:13you don't want to
51:14make too many changes
51:15going into this
51:15qualifying session
51:16you sort of want
51:17the drivers to be
51:18able to feel
51:18largely what they
51:19had in FP3
51:20with a bit of
51:20track improvement
51:21and they've got
51:22margin for the Q1
51:23and the Q2 sessions
51:24and then try and
51:25bring all of it
51:26together for Q3
51:27well let's build
51:28into this
51:29genuinely
51:31how many drivers
51:32in with a shout
51:33of pole do you
51:34think today
51:34Jensen
51:35and we always
51:36say more than
51:36actually what
51:38actually happens
51:38in qualifying
51:39but you would
51:40say obviously
51:40both Ferraris
51:41you would say
51:42both Mercedes
51:43should be there
51:44as well
51:44George didn't
51:45really get it
51:45together as well
51:46as Kimi did
51:47and you can't
51:48carry out Max
51:49and possibility
51:50of the McLarens
51:51close by
51:51so yeah
51:52it's going to
51:52depend on whether
51:53they get that
51:54perfect lap
51:54which is obviously
51:55not possible
51:56but as close
51:56to perfect
51:57as possible
51:57and I can't
51:58wait to see
51:58that fight
51:59out there
51:59well
52:00just a quick
52:00one on
52:01because we were
52:01talking about it
52:02Charles Leclerc
52:02with the lack
52:03of confidence
52:04on the breaks
52:04exactly what he
52:05doesn't want
52:06you know
52:07had it in the
52:07window for FB1
52:08yesterday
52:09but has it got
52:09close to qualifying
52:11yeah you know
52:12a lack of confidence
52:12in the break
52:13is definitely not
52:13what you want
52:14through qualifying
52:14arguably yesterday
52:15luckily maybe had
52:16a little bit
52:17the upper hand
52:17that doesn't look
52:18the same today
52:19so a bit of work
52:20on Charles Leclerc's
52:21side particularly
52:22this qualifying session
52:23to get the upper
52:23hand on Lewis
52:24Polby
52:26Kimmy's on it
52:27I'd have to say
52:28Kimmy
52:28I was gonna go
52:29Kimmy's
52:29I'll have to go
52:30somewhere else
52:30go on then
52:31Hamilton
52:34there we go
52:35as you said
52:35we shall return
52:36quarter past two
52:37for the build up
52:38to that
52:39F2 sprint
52:40is next
52:41but it looks
52:41very nicely
52:42poised
52:43for qualifying
52:44in Monaco
