00:02I wanna let my hair down
00:05While I'm staring down your face
00:07Wanna go till the lights out
00:09Take it right back to my place
00:10You watch your mind
00:12If you don't know what this is
00:14I tell them one by one
00:16Some one by one
00:17Twist my wrist
00:18Eyes on me, out to my back
00:22Just like this
00:23Can't believe in the pool but I got you
00:28Just keep watching
00:32Just keep watching
00:33Just keep watching
00:37Just keep watching
00:38Just keep watching
00:40Just keep watching
00:45Morning everybody, welcome to Monaco
00:48For what is always one of the most thrilling days
00:51On the calendar, qualifying day
00:53And yesterday belonged to the Ferraris
00:55Hometown boy, Charles Leclerc
00:57Quickest in the opening practice session
00:59And his teammate Lewis Hamilton
01:01In the second
01:02And Ferrari very much
01:04Looking like the team to beat
01:05There we are
01:06What a view
01:08Beautiful, beautiful
01:09Monaco
01:10Bathed in sunshine
01:11And one final hour of practice
01:12To get themselves
01:14Ready for what we hope
01:16Will be an amazing qualifying session
01:18Jensen Button and Bernie Collins
01:20Alongside me
01:21I love Saturdays in Monaco
01:23Do you?
01:24It's the best Saturday, isn't it?
01:26It really is
01:27I like Melbourne as well
01:28Because that's the first time we get to see the big qualifying trim
01:32Mine's still Monaco
01:32Yeah
01:33Yes, fair enough
01:34I'm not going to argue that you've done it
01:36Yeah, I mean it doesn't get any better than seeing these
01:37They're quite big race cars now
01:39Being pushed to the limits by the best drivers in the world
01:43Touching barriers
01:44It's epic
01:45Yeah, it is
01:46And we saw a lot of that yesterday, Bernie
01:48But Ferraris were saying
01:50Just the way the architecture of the car
01:52The small turbo
01:53Their compliance on curbs
01:55And around the very slow corners
01:56Really suits this track it seems
01:58Yeah, it does suit this track
01:59I think it suits low speed, medium speed corners
02:02And this track obviously has those in abundance
02:04Doesn't have the streets where Ferrari has had the disadvantage
02:06It's going to be all the play for out there
02:09Even with the advantage Ferrari have
02:11A single driver mistake on any of the corners around this track
02:14Will not allow them that chance of pose
02:17So here it is about getting it all together
02:19Getting the traffic right
02:20Getting the positioning
02:21Making sure the tyres last through that quali session
02:24And being fortunate with red flags or yellow flags
02:27We know Charles is extremely good round here
02:30He won in 2024
02:32But do not write off Lewis Hamilton
02:34Absolutely not
02:34Not won here since 2019
02:36But is still won here three times
02:38And on form at the moment, as you said
02:40It's great to see Lewis on form
02:42You know, last year was not the greatest year
02:44For him as he joined Ferrari
02:46But this year he's come alive again
02:48Which is really nice to see
02:49And especially on a street circuit like Monaco
02:51To go quickest than FP2 yesterday
02:52These two are going to push each other hard
02:55Yeah, a quick word though on Fred Vasseur
02:57We wish him well get well soon, Fred
02:59He was taken into hospital last night
03:01Has remained in there overnight
03:02And having further tests today
03:04So he's not going to be at the track
03:05But I'm sure we'll be watching on
03:07So yes, from us all
03:08I hope you feel better soon, Fred
03:10Yesterday though
03:10Talking of crashes
03:11Talking of touching the wall
03:13We saw evidence of that in advance
03:15Yeah, you know
03:16And that's what happens in Monaco
03:18In qualifying in particular
03:19People are questioning it
03:21But they're edging up to it
03:22And you know, that's I think
03:23What's going to be great
03:24Across two Ferraris
03:25Like Jensen said
03:25They're going to be pushing each other
03:26Trying to get everything out of the car
03:28We've seen it with Hatcher
03:29In particular
03:30I think it's the one that maybe
03:31Suffered the most
03:32We had Lando Norris
03:33Stopped on track as well
03:34With a tactical issue
03:35So
03:36This was in here
03:37Yeah, exactly
03:38Just came into this corner
03:39The dash goes completely dead
03:41He loses all power in the car
03:42And obviously, you know
03:44McLaren have done a lot of work
03:45To change it overnight
03:46But
03:47You need to get everything
03:48Out of this P3 session
03:49And make sure that you end it
03:50With a car that's ready
03:52To go into quality
03:52They got a fine for that
03:54Didn't they?
03:55Because of the clutch release
03:56That didn't work
03:57So they couldn't get it out of gear
03:5930,000 euros
04:01With that
04:0110,000 of that
04:02Suspended
04:03Right, let's get the thoughts
04:04Of Charles Leclerc
04:05After that busy day yesterday
04:07Well, Charles
04:07A lot of hype about Ferrari
04:09Coming into the weekend
04:10Looks like the pace is there
04:12Looks like
04:12You're enjoying yourself
04:14How was your Friday?
04:16Um
04:18Very difficult
04:19We are
04:20Facing quite a few issues
04:22On brakes on my side
04:24So we are trying to
04:25To fix those
04:25So the confidence
04:27Is not
04:28At the highest level
04:29At the moment
04:29But
04:30Apart from that
04:31It's a track I love
04:32And I'm sure that
04:33If we manage to fix those
04:34For tomorrow
04:35It will be a good step forward
04:36But unfortunately
04:37It's been since Canada
04:38That I'm
04:39Struggling a little bit on that
04:40So
04:41We are trying to find solutions
04:42I hope we do
04:43For tomorrow
04:44And if so
04:45I don't doubt
04:46That we will do
04:47A step forward
04:48Are the issues
04:49Are the issues you had in Canada
04:50The same as you're experiencing here
04:52And are you clear on
04:53What you can do overnight
04:54To improve those?
04:56Uh
04:56I mean it's
04:57Very specific
04:58What we are having
05:00And yes
05:00It's a similar issue in Canada
05:02Than in here
05:03We are working towards
05:05Making the situation better
05:06We have few ideas
05:08In order to make it better
05:09We didn't manage to find
05:10A clear solution so far
05:12But
05:13I hope we can for tomorrow
05:15It's Monaco
05:16Anything can happen
05:17He's still confident
05:18That you can be in the fight
05:19For pole
05:20Against
05:21Lewis
05:21And maybe even
05:22Max Verstappen
05:23Who was surprised there
05:24Max has been very strong
05:25The Red Bull have been very strong
05:27And
05:28Lewis have been very strong as well
05:30So
05:31Yeah
05:31But at the end of the day
05:32It's not been a disastrous day
05:34We are
05:34We are very close to Lewis
05:36In FP2
05:37So
05:37I
05:38Yeah
05:39I'm not so worried
05:40But it's going to be a tough qualifying for sure
05:43It's going to be very tight
05:44And
05:46Yeah
05:46And if we do a step forward
05:47With a break
05:48Surely it can help us
05:49For the fight for pole
05:53I've really been enjoying the fight
05:54Between the two Ferrari teammates
05:55And Max isn't far away as well
05:58So
05:58It was only one tenth of a second
05:59So
06:00Nothing to cry about
06:01From Charles Leclerc
06:02And he can most certainly
06:03Fight for pole position today
06:04So we got the side by side
06:05Lined up against
06:06Lewis Hamilton
06:07From yesterday
06:08He set the fastest time of course
06:09Through turn one
06:10Sanderbot
06:12You
06:12For those of you with it
06:13With a
06:14Great hearing
06:15You would have heard that Lewis
06:16Just snuck it down
06:17One extra gear through there
06:18Just second gear
06:19Rather than third gear
06:20For Sean
06:21It's the same here
06:21For Casino
06:23So Charles is letting the engines
06:25Labour just had a little bit more
06:27If I just slow it down
06:28Into this corner
06:29Lewis's balance
06:29Is a lot more
06:32Mechanically difficult for him
06:33To manage on the rear
06:34Just struggling with the rear
06:35Here
06:36I find compared to Leclerc
06:37He's got a little bit more
06:39Understeer
06:39Built into that car
06:40Around here
06:41Which isn't your friend
06:42Around this section
06:43But comes good at the end
06:45On the exit here
06:46You can see Lewis
06:47Fighting that rear once again
06:48As you go into the tunnel
06:49Just keep an eye on his dashes
06:51Speaking of brake balance
06:5163 down to 62% he goes
06:54Before the braking into the Nouvelle Chicane
06:57And actually I'm just going to rewind it there
06:59Now we're a little bit short on time
07:00But watch Charles' hands
07:02As he goes into the Chicane
07:04He just has a bit of oversteers
07:05He goes in a bit too hot
07:07And that bit loses him time
07:09Compared to his teammate
07:10They were pretty even
07:12Up until that point
07:13He's now a slight bit behind
07:14Lewis now starts to struggle the balance
07:16A little bit more
07:17That rear working against him here
07:20Through the right and left
07:21He gets a snap oversteer
07:22Again on the exit there
07:23As we stop it here
07:24At the line on the exit
07:25You can see how close Charles managed to get
07:28It's pretty even for them
07:30Speed wise through the penultimate corner
07:32Rascas and into the final corner as well
07:34Actually Charles can't make any more
07:36Inroad into Lewis' advantage
07:38And he hangs on to that
07:39One tenth advantage
07:40Down to the start finish line again
07:42So super tight between the two of them
07:44But I am detecting
07:46Slight different driving styles
07:47With gear selection
07:48But also the car balance as well
07:53Yeah interesting to see
07:54But as we see it all calm
07:56In the Ferrari garage
07:57At the moment
07:58But as we touched upon
07:59Biggest straight it seemed yesterday
08:01That of Max
08:02Yeah definitely
08:03I mean
08:04It's going to be
08:05Who gets the lap together
08:06Around Monaco
08:07When you're pushing to the limit
08:08And who puts it in the wall
08:10Because that's also possible
08:11When you're pushing
08:12When you've got three drivers
08:13Within a tenth and a half
08:15They're all going to be
08:15Pushing each other very hard
08:16And someone's definitely
08:17Going to slip over that limit
08:18But it's really exciting
08:20To have these leads through there
08:21Mercedes a little bit off the pace
08:23But you know
08:24Overnight we've seen them improve
08:25So they could be in the fight as well
08:27Bernie tell us about
08:28Strategy on the pit wall
08:30With two extra cars there today
08:32Traffic always a problem here
08:33Even more so now
08:34Traffic's always a problem around here
08:36It's a very very short lap physically
08:38And also it's one that
08:40The time gap between the cars
08:41Is very small
08:42Now the
08:43Let's say the effective traffic
08:45Not so bad here
08:46With the downforce level
08:47That they run
08:48But
08:49You're just trying to get
08:50That clean lap
08:50We end up here with people
08:52Running multiple laps
08:53To try and get a clean one
08:54On the board
08:55Always reacting to
08:56Yellow flags
08:57Or red flags
08:58To haven't gone off track
08:59Lots of people change
09:00Their run program
09:01Very quickly
09:02So for example
09:03You might be on a fast lap
09:04Suddenly you're aboard
09:05So you can't be
09:06What we call
09:07In fears
09:08With all the drivers around you
09:09All the time
09:10Because all their run plans
09:12Are changing continuously
09:13And you try and get
09:14A lot more laps
09:14On the board here
09:15Than you do anywhere else
09:16And a big one is communication
09:17Yeah
09:17Engineer driver communication
09:19Is key to getting that clear lap
09:21And staying calm
09:22Because Q1 is super busy
09:23With 22 cars this year
09:25Absolutely
09:25Okay
09:26There we go
09:27Just about set then
09:28One further hour
09:29Of practice ahead
09:30Of qualifying details
09:31For the rest of the weekend
09:33We're live with Practice Street
09:34Qualifying build up
09:35Starts from 2.15
09:40And on Sunday
09:4112.30 on air
09:43Lights out here in Monaco
09:45At 2 o'clock
09:46While we are bathed in sunshine
09:48A few clouds dotted around
09:50But no threat of rain today
09:52And as I mentioned
09:53This is a crucial hour
09:55Gotta get things right
09:56Get yourself ready
09:57For the most important qualifying
09:58Of the year
09:59Let's head up to David Croft
10:01In Cometree
10:01With Anthony Takes
10:02Subtitles
10:02It's all
10:02Let's get started
10:04Let's go
10:14With the team
10:15With the team
10:24The team
10:25It's all
10:26We have to work with you
10:57As Saturdays go, they don't get much bigger or better than this in the world of Formula One.
11:02It's Monaco Saturday. It's qualifying Saturday.
11:06We've got one more practice session to go and then the race for the all-important pole later this afternoon.
11:12Welcome along to round six of this Formula One season in 2026.
11:17It's a 78-lap blast from the harbour side up to the casino and back down to the harbour again.
11:222.07 miles long. It's the shortest track on the Formula One calendar.
11:27The first ever winner here in 1951, Manuel Fangio for Argentina.
11:32The latest winner, Lando Norris for the UK from pole, which has won here 33 times at a 71 Grand
11:39Prix in the past.
11:40The tyres are a step harder than they were last year, still the softest in the Pirelli range, C5, C4
11:46and C3.
11:47And the tyre runs yesterday concentrating on pace and performance and single lap pace and performance too because of that
11:54qualifying session to come.
11:55And like it was yesterday, the conditions are absolutely perfect.
12:00Barely a breath of wind around this place.
12:03The sun is shining down.
12:04The crowds have flocked to the French Riviera and to Monaco and we are all set for a wonderful day
12:10here.
12:11Ferrari with a team to catch yesterday.
12:14Fastest and one and two in both practice sessions.
12:17Charles Leclerc in FP1.
12:19Lewis Hamilton in FP2.
12:21They have more poles than any other team here in Monaco.
12:2413 in total.
12:26Are they the ones for pole later today?
12:28And if they are, that will surely bring a smile to the face of their team principal, Fred Vasseur, who
12:33is not at the track today.
12:35Went to a medical centre last night and is being treated and staying in that hospital as well.
12:41We send our best wishes to Freddie.
12:44He celebrated his 58th birthday, Thursday of last week.
12:48Hopefully celebrations for him wherever he is watching from later today.
12:53Will it be Lewis Hamilton?
12:54Will it be Charles Leclerc?
12:55Could it be Max Verstappen as well?
12:56The only driver to get within four tenths of the two Ferraris.
13:01Gabriel Bortoletto on his second visit to Monaco in an Audi that's got a pretty decent chassis on a track
13:07where engine power isn't everything and showing good speed yesterday.
13:11Kimi Antonelli, the championship leader, 43 points between himself and George Russell.
13:16Mercedes, though, on the back foot yesterday.
13:18And Anthony Davidson has made the trek from the Skypad all the way to the commentary box.
13:22That is a trek and a half.
13:23I wish I had some blue flags out there, Crofty.
13:26It's a lot of traffic to get up here.
13:28Honestly, it took me 20 minutes and I came about half an hour ago.
13:31So Lando Norris, a lot of time to make up that he lost yesterday when his car stopped on track.
13:37What looks like battery issues for McLaren.
13:39Yeah, he's got some time to make up, hasn't he?
13:41But yeah, if anyone can do it, it's Lando.
13:43He's very good around this circuit usually.
13:46And we saw some drivers with a lack of FP1 time making up for it in FP2.
14:02A slight pause.
14:03We welcome our viewers on Sky Sports' main event to this practice session here in Monaco.
14:08And, well, it might be rainy and dreary and the covers might be on at Lourdes
14:12and the red ball might have been darting around all over the place in the first two days of the
14:16test match.
14:17Here in Monaco, it's blue skies and sunshine and a red car that's been darting around
14:21and no one could catch that red car either.
14:23Arthur Leclerc, Charles Leclerc's brother, watching on from the back of the Ferrari garage.
14:28Anthony Davidson alongside me in the commentary box.
14:31A day that is so special in the world of Formula One.
14:35This is the day that you drivers dream of.
14:38Qualifying day in Monaco.
14:39Yeah, well, for those of you that are watching the Skypad piece between the two Ferrari drivers,
14:43it's going to come down to the drivers today.
14:46And that's so exciting, not just for them, but for us as well.
14:49Because we know that just what lies around every corner here, every braking zone,
14:55every time you get on throttle, it's such a short circuit that every, well, millisecond is worth it.
15:03And you just go hunting for it.
15:05Sometimes you're a bit too greedy here and you can end up in the barrier
15:08and you just carry that responsibility and that nervousness in some ways with you
15:13every step around this track.
15:15And that's what I love about this event.
15:17It's not so much for the overtaking.
15:18It's about driver versus circuit.
15:22Lewis Hamilton taking to the track.
15:24First car on the track for this session is Lewis Hamilton.
15:30And he and his Ferrari on the racetrack, Kim Kardashian, is in the paddock.
15:36Lewis and Kim have been pictured around the world together,
15:40have been friends for years and have grown closer in the last few months.
15:44And wonderful to see Kim Kardashian here.
15:47And if, well, Lewis Hamilton can keep up with the Kardashians, Jenson,
15:50but the question has to be who can keep up with Lewis Hamilton on the racetrack today?
15:54Oh, fantastic.
15:55What a great time to walk in, Crofty.
15:57What a great line.
15:59Did you see Kim on your way to the coverage?
16:00I didn't, actually.
16:01I didn't.
16:02But, no, I mean, great to see Lewis on form.
16:05It really is, you know.
16:07Practice yesterday, quickest in FP2.
16:10Yeah, it's good to see.
16:11And he's really going to take the challenge to his teammates today.
16:13They're going to push each other so hard.
16:15You've been teammates with Lewis around this very circuit.
16:18And did he like the car really sharp on the front end with the rear wagging around like we've just
16:24seen on the Skypad compared to the Claire?
16:26That's always been Lewis's way.
16:27And I think that's why the previous generations of car were a little bit more difficult for Lewis,
16:32because you couldn't have oversteer.
16:34If you did, you were in the wall.
16:35Whereas now you can play with the rear a little bit more and slide it around a bit.
16:38And that's definitely more Lewis's style.
16:40I was surprised to see 62% and 63% brake bias means that that bias is to the front
16:45axle.
16:47For those of you listening and watching in, it's kind of like being on a bicycle and you're playing with
16:51the front brake and the rear brake levers.
16:53Where in an F1 car, you can kind of lock that in, which one has more bias.
16:57And so running, usually the kind of sweet spot in an F1 car would be around 58, 57, 58%.
17:04If you're running up in those numbers shows to me how nervous his car must be.
17:09Yeah, no, definitely.
17:10That's very, very high.
17:11But it also shows how much confidence he's got in those front brakes.
17:14You know, we have seen with the cars this year, they've had a lot of front locking, haven't they?
17:18Yes, they have.
17:18And we saw it yesterday in practice, especially with Charles.
17:21So I'm surprised he's that far forward.
17:23Maybe there's another reason.
17:24Maybe they're doing something else with the car.
17:26He picked up on this on the Skypad, Ant.
17:28Lewis in the opening sector, losing out to Charles de Clare.
17:31He was only fifth fastest in the opening sector during the FP2 session in terms of his best sector times.
17:38Ferrari worked quickest in all three sectors, but he was making up ground in the middle and the final part
17:43of the lap.
17:43It's funny because from that Skypad, what I could see was that de Clare was actually making time on Lewis
17:48in the swimming pool section mostly.
17:50And that's where a bit more of an understeery balance, the front giving you that bit of that kind of
17:56comfort blanket in many ways.
17:57In corners like that, the higher speed element of the track, it looked like that's where Leclerc was able to
18:02gain a bit on Lewis.
18:04For example, he was flat on the entry towards the swimming pool to turn 13, whereas I felt like Lewis
18:11needed to upshift slightly early and just trying to mitigate the rear moving around.
18:18So, yeah, there were definite differences in car balance, and that plays out through the lap.
18:22But I wouldn't say that Lewis looked weaker at the first part.
18:25They're using different gears.
18:27Lewis using second gear in Casino and Sandoval at the first corner.
18:31Leclerc letting the car breathe a bit more in third gear.
18:34It's quite interesting, those differences between the driving style.
18:37Well, here he is.
18:38Should we focus on this lap, on the soft tyre?
18:40He's going for a push lap.
18:42Through Casino Square we go, and already Jenson Button has got his arm out,
18:46and it's kind of skidding around in the commentary box to match the rear of Lewis's car.
18:50Yeah, he had a little bit of a twitch there just before the change of direction in Casino Square.
18:55Through the hairpin we go, slowest corner on the Formula 1 calendar,
18:58dropping steeply down towards 48, where you still can't see the sea,
19:02but at least you can see the posh apartment blocks on the far side now and into the tunnel.
19:06It's so hard to come into an FP3 session.
19:09And you've had a night on it, thinking about it, and you just get thrown in now,
19:13and you're expected to do exactly what you're doing at the end of FP2.
19:17And it's, you kind of, feels like everything's a little bit on fast forward in these opening laps,
19:21and you slowly get back into the rhythm as to where you were yesterday.
19:26But also the circuit's not as quick as it was yesterday.
19:28You know, we've had road cars driving around, we've had people at Rascas.
19:33A bit of understeer there, I know why that is.
19:36But, so yeah, it's always really tricky this session,
19:39but it's going to ramp up so quickly towards the end.
19:421.15.2 for Lewis Hamilton.
19:45Understeer around Rascas, is that because of the underbeer causing the understeer?
19:49There's a lot of spillage.
19:50It goes on down there on a Friday night.
19:52Not that Bernie Collins would know anything about that.
19:54She was tucked up nice and early and ready for pit lane duties
19:57as Charles Leclerc goes a little quicker than his teammate Bernie.
20:00Of course I was crafty, and hopefully fit to bring you a little bit of insight.
20:04Some of the cars not left the garage yet.
20:06You did mention the two Ferraris out there.
20:08Two Red Bulls notably still in the garden.
20:10Did see Max Verstappen in the back.
20:12But what I wanted to show you on this Red Bull,
20:15we've discussed a little bit this weekend about straight line mode not being used, of course.
20:20And that means that you don't need to activate the rear wing.
20:23And many of the teams, particularly McLaren, Mercedes and Mercedes,
20:27the Red Bull have come up with little tricks to add to their rear wing.
20:30So hopefully now on your screen you can see the rear wing of the Red Bull.
20:35It's got extra little winglets on the back that they're trying to add downforce onto that car.
20:40There's a lot of smoke on the front brake.
20:43It's burning.
20:45Front right.
20:46It's getting worse.
20:47I'm just trying not to use the brakes.
20:49We'll just interrupt Bernie for a moment.
20:51Valtteri Bottas reporting smoke from his front right brake.
20:54And that's the front right brake issue that affected his teammate Sergio Perez yesterday.
20:59Sergio had to stop at Casino Square.
21:02Couldn't bring the car back to the pits.
21:04It caught fire.
21:05The brake caught fire and ended his session early.
21:08Has Valtteri Bottas got a similar issue or the same problem in his Cadillac?
21:13Meanwhile, here's Charles Leclerc on the run up the hill at Beau Ravage towards Massonet pointing towards the sky.
21:20And as he gets to the crest of the hill, there's a car in the way.
21:23And it's Cadillac.
21:25I'm guessing that's Valtteri.
21:26Yes.
21:27Yeah.
21:27He's held up a couple of cars on this in-lap, hasn't he?
21:31It's very difficult when you don't want to hit the brakes anyway.
21:34You don't want to pull off line and hit the brakes.
21:35It's tricky for safety for his point of view.
21:38Yeah.
21:38It might not be completely Valtteri Bottas' fault.
21:41He has made it back to the pits.
21:43Bernie, have you got more from the pit lane for us after we had you interrupted?
21:47Yeah.
21:48Well, I was actually just making my way down to see Valtteri come in.
21:52He came past me.
21:53I didn't notice any smoke from the brakes there.
21:55But neither cameraman's on a run.
21:57I will hopefully bring you something from Valtteri Bottas.
22:00Thank you very much indeed.
22:01As we watch Kimi Antonelli getting strapped into his Mercedes news from McLaren,
22:05who broke the curfew last night because Lando Norris stopped on the track,
22:10as you might remember, in FP2.
22:12The team investigating the issue and say they broke the curfew to replace the wiring harness
22:18and also change the ESME pack within the permitted allocation.
22:24So engine store and batteries changed by McLaren,
22:28who were fined 30,000 euros for 10,000 suspended
22:32because the marshals couldn't engage the CDS button to get the car rolling and out of the way
22:41because McLaren had taped it up for aerodynamic purposes.
22:45They put some tape over it in the way that racing balls had done with Liam Lawson in Montreal.
22:49And the FIA stewards and the FIA said,
22:52well, look, one team's done that.
22:54We fined them.
22:55You're carrying on doing that.
22:56So it's a bit more of a stiffer penalty for you
22:58because you really shouldn't be doing it
22:59because the marshals need to press that button to get the car rolling.
23:02And it's rolling today because Lando Norris is out on the track.
23:11There are eight braking zones too heavy around Monaco
23:15and that's around about eight braking zones too much for Cadillac so far this weekend.
23:19Well, the bigger problem, Profty, is that you have a lot of short, sharp braking zones
23:24but you don't more critically have enough straight line speed to cool them back down again.
23:29And you're in amongst the barriers.
23:31There are buildings everywhere as well.
23:32So you don't get a lot of airflow around this track.
23:35And they're clearly in trouble there in Cadillac with the front brake.
23:39Sergio's in his pit box down to Bernie.
23:41She's there too.
23:43Just watching Chaco come in actually.
23:45And it seems okay, but you can smell.
23:47There's a very distinctive smell of carbon.
23:50So that is quite strong for the rear.
23:52But I don't see any flames, any smoke.
23:54They've put the fans on.
23:55They're pushing it back into the garbage, which maybe you can see.
23:58They're actually looking at the front of Bottas' car, but that's it.
24:03Thanks, Bernie.
24:04Lewis Hamilton absolutely flying and getting a little closer than he wanted to on the Rascas exit.
24:09Almost flying straight into the barriers there.
24:11So he's hit the brakes, just locked up the front right and has just carried straight on.
24:14Still seven tenths up.
24:16Funnily enough, not his best last sector.
24:18Funnily enough, yeah.
24:20But no.
24:20Ponditry there.
24:21Yeah, perfect.
24:23Yeah, that was a close one.
24:24But obviously, yeah, there's a lot more time to find from everyone at this point.
24:29In the 14s, we were getting a couple of seconds off still from that.
24:34So, yeah, they're chipping away at it.
24:35Track starting to come up in grip.
24:38But it's still in a better state, I'd say, than it was at the start of FP1 by quite some
24:42margin.
24:43So what do Cadillac do now, JB?
24:45Problems for Valtteri and for Sergio.
24:47What can they do to sort that brake issue out?
24:50Well, first of all, this is that they don't have traffic.
24:53You imagine in a race sat behind other cars how difficult it's going to be.
24:56They're not going to be able to hit the brakes at all.
24:57So it's not easy.
25:00They've got to try and open up the brake.
25:02That's more.
25:02But I don't know if they can within the regulations or what options they have, really.
25:08And in the race as well, with a car tanked up, particularly at the start, tanked up with fuel and
25:14a heavier car,
25:15you're going to have longer time on the brake pedal.
25:17So, yeah, the more that your grip goes down, the more you have to lean on the brakes.
25:21Wow.
25:22Speaking of grip going down, Lindblad was very leery on the exit there of the final corner and the rear's
25:26lit up.
25:28Fifth fastest for Arvid Lindblad, 1.1 seconds off the pace.
25:31So far, there is a big gap between Hamilton and the rest.
25:35Leclerc and Norris matched by a few hundredths.
25:38If McLaren can get within a few hundredths of Charles Leclerc later,
25:40they'll consider that a job very, very well done overnight
25:43because McLaren just weren't on the pace yesterday at all.
25:46Yeah, they weren't.
25:47And obviously they had their issues.
25:49It's never easy when you've just got one car trying to find pace around here.
25:53You need the information from both drivers, really.
25:55Information from Lewis Hamilton to Carlos Santini, his race engineer.
26:00One lap is not enough to cool the tyres understeer creeping in.
26:04Track temperature is only 30 degrees,
26:07but the steering wheel is always turning here,
26:10and cooling tyres is not the easiest thing.
26:12Funnily enough, it's not the front side I would have thought he would have an issue with,
26:15getting back under control.
26:17You know, you see so many moments around this track where the rear is stepping out and exits.
26:22We also can't forget they have so much power now,
26:25immediate power from the combustion engine,
26:27but also from the hybrid system.
26:30Yeah, and all out of the corners rather than to the end of the straight where DRS used to kick
26:36in.
26:36Now that the torque is excessive,
26:38Nico Hülkenberg into that nouvelle chicane.
26:41Speaking of the hybrid system,
26:44we haven't spoken much about the deployment and the energy recovery around this track because...
26:50You promised you weren't going to do that this weekend, that's why.
26:53Because it's not a factor around here,
26:56but it can be a factor for your brake cooling.
27:00Ah.
27:00Because if the motor generating unit Kinetic, the MGU-K,
27:06is the battery saturated, that doesn't work anymore.
27:09It kind of hands it over to the mechanical brakes,
27:12your discs and pads.
27:14You see where I'm going with this, with the Cadillac.
27:16It can then start to overheat your brakes that maybe weren't designed from the starting point
27:22to cope with the track like this because you're relying usually so much on the MGU-K
27:27to do your braking for you, the electric motor.
27:30But if that's out of the equation for a lot of the lap ground here,
27:33it's handing it over to the mechanical brakes and they skyrocket in temperatures.
27:37And it's a massive switch as well in terms of feel for the driver,
27:41in terms of braking capability.
27:43I was about to say Liam Lawson looked really, really at home, at ease
27:48and finding the right lines through that final sector.
27:52Lando Norris has just gone quickest, but Lawson put in a 19-7.
27:55It's pretty much matched Lando through that final sector.
27:57We've got a piece of Liam Lawson coming up in our qualifying show.
28:01Don't miss that.
28:02It's a great insight into how he spends his days here in Monaco.
28:07Honestly, I loved it.
28:08At home with the Lawsons.
28:09I love this.
28:09It's definitely something to watch out for.
28:11Oh, Lance Stroll's made contact.
28:14And we'll have to come in and get that checked out.
28:17I'll be amazed by the end of this weekend
28:19if every driver doesn't report that at some stage
28:22they've made a bit of contact with the barriers.
28:24Yeah, that's normally the way, isn't it?
28:26And sometimes it's the team that tells the driver
28:28that you must have made contact with the barrier
28:30because they've touched it and didn't feel it.
28:32Well, apparently the fastest way to go around here,
28:35and you two have done it before,
28:36is to have a little love tap from time to time with the arm comb.
28:39It is.
28:40Not quite like computer games where you just follow the barrier all the way around.
28:44But Max Verstappen just gone quickest in the first sector.
28:47We're obviously on board with him at the moment.
28:49Pushing the limits already, isn't he?
28:51And this, I feel this is the guy, out of all of them,
28:54that could spoil the party for Ferrari this weekend.
28:57He was right there, just a tenth and a half behind them,
29:00the duo yesterday.
29:02And, yeah, he's...
29:04All they need is a little bit more time from car setup,
29:07which I'm sure they would have done overnight
29:08in the simulation tools back at Milton Keynes.
29:12And that's all they need.
29:13If he's got a sniff of a chance around this circuit,
29:16he's definitely one to watch out for.
29:17As you say that, George Russell just goes super quick in the first sector.
29:21Yeah, well, a Mercedes that wasn't going super quick yesterday.
29:25But, look, on the evidence of what we saw yesterday,
29:27Max is, A, a lot happier,
29:29and B, very much in contention with the front runners.
29:33Third fastest as he was yesterday,
29:35and within a tenth and a half of Lando Norris
29:38or Lewis Hamilton just behind the McLaren.
29:39Yeah, he had an outside front lock-up into Rascas,
29:43so that puts a little bit of time in the third sector.
29:44At the moment, it looks like George is four tenths up.
29:48There you go.
29:49At the moment, George Russell is the only one in the 1.13s as well.
29:53George Russell has not been on the podium here.
29:56Neither has his teammate, Kimi Antonelli.
29:58George has had five more chances to get on that podium.
30:01Best place finish of fifth, which he managed in 22, 23, and 24.
30:06Lewis Hamilton, meanwhile, has been on the podium
30:08seven times here in Monaco before.
30:11One short of the record held by Ayrton Senna.
30:14Hamilton crosses the line, stays, well, goes second fastest.
30:18Just behind George Russell, tenth between the Mercedes and the Ferrari.
30:22And we're on board with Lando Norris through the swimming pool entry.
30:25Yeah.
30:26It's, you've got to be committed through there, chaps.
30:29It's a lot more tense than last year, that's for sure.
30:31And that, that's the part of the track where you'll see it the most
30:33because you're lacking the downforce in this generation of car,
30:37which I personally love
30:38because you get to see the driver working more.
30:41And, uh, and that's, that really shows through there
30:44as Lando Norris stays P3,
30:46but Leclerc is on a flyer, isn't he?
30:48Further down the circuit, fastest middle sector of all.
30:52Kimi Antonelli goes fourth fastest, sorry, Jenson.
30:54Charles Leclerc onto the main straight.
30:56Now we can pick him up on the, uh, the main screen.
30:59Quickest by a tenth and a half from George Russell.
31:02They're all pumping in the times now, aren't they?
31:04The, the grip is coming down.
31:06They're laying down rubber.
31:07And, uh, we're seeing that.
31:09And it's going to continue all the way to the end of this session.
31:11Uh, the one who isn't, uh, parts of the, uh, the battle in the sharp end
31:15is Oscar Piastri, who's just taking his time a little bit to come into this.
31:19Has the slowest time on board.
31:20He's a little bit out of sync, I think, with everyone else
31:23after leaving the garage a little bit later.
31:25He's only on his second lap of this session.
31:27Nika Holcomb, though, has just gone eighth fastest.
31:30Liam Lawson in the, uh, in the top ten.
31:33Arvid Lindblad, uh, was going well now, uh, 12.
31:36I'm expecting a bit more from the Racing Bulls today.
31:38They, if there was a, a car that could be a surprise entry into the top ten,
31:46uh, before this race, Racing Bulls,
31:48I think I would have had my money on that one.
31:50They've been in the top six in Monaco three times in the last seven races here.
31:55And they were pretty strong in the slow speed corners in Canada as well,
31:59and you would have thought that would translate to this circuit.
32:01So they were a bit of a, a bit of a loss yesterday,
32:05and it wasn't really bothering the top ten,
32:07but they're back there today.
32:08Lawson seems to really be on a, on a mission out there,
32:11but their battle immediately seems to be the Aldi's.
32:15Uh, Aldi's held on to that best of the rest spot yesterday,
32:18but good to see Racing Bulls up there now.
32:20Certainly is.
32:21So we've got Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas as the two slowest cars.
32:26And Valtteri Bottas is back on the track.
32:28Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso ahead of them.
32:30And look, there's the team principal
32:32and, uh, executive managing partner Adrian Newey back at the racetrack.
32:37Great to see Adrian here.
32:38He hasn't been to the last few races.
32:40We understand he hasn't been a hundred percent either,
32:43but I'm told he is feeling much fitter, much better,
32:46and great to see him here at a racetrack as well.
32:48Plenty of work to be done.
32:50Long-term project for Aston Martin and probably a B car,
32:53B spec car coming later on this season,
32:55hopefully around the, uh, spa time to try and sort out some of the issues.
33:00They had Fernando Alonso yesterday saying these hybrids,
33:02I don't want to be driving these, uh, these hybrids.
33:05Wasn't saying that.
33:05And when he was your teammate in WEC all those years ago,
33:08was he loved the hybrids then?
33:09Yes.
33:10Pick and choose which hybrids you like,
33:12feel like you should be in racing or not.
33:14But, uh, it, you know, it's always, you always,
33:17it's easy to get down when you haven't got the equipment
33:20and start blaming, finger pointing and blaming everything around you.
33:23But somebody that hasn't got that issue right now,
33:26it's Kimi Antonelli, championship leader,
33:29personal best, first sector.
33:31Let's see how he gets on at the end of the second sector.
33:33Ooh, fastest overall.
33:34So looking a bit better today for Antonelli.
33:38He was five tenths off the pace compared to Lewis Hamilton's best lap yesterday.
33:42So Mercedes starting to find a bit more speed.
33:45Kimi looking a bit more at home as well.
33:47We saw his dad watching on, Jensen.
33:50You were, you were stood there yesterday watching the cars out of the swimming poolers.
33:53Kimi Antonelli goes nearly four tenths faster than Charles Leclerc.
33:56How aggressive was he over that curb on the swimming pool exit?
34:00Really aggressive.
34:01Every curb he was very aggressive with.
34:03I don't know what the rule is actually on the,
34:05on the nouveau chicane with crossing the white line at the apex.
34:09Well, you shouldn't be allowed to.
34:11If you go all four wheels over a white line,
34:13it should be looked at.
34:14First of all,
34:15I was just amazed that his car was capable of doing that.
34:18Because normally you hit that curb and it bounces you straight off.
34:20So they've definitely got good curb riding ability.
34:23In the race,
34:24if you cut that chicane and exceed track limits,
34:27and gain an advantage,
34:29you are to give that place back before you get to that goal
34:33that we've just gone through with Piastri to back.
34:35And if you don't,
34:36the stewards are going to have a look at it.
34:37And if you go all four wheels over the white line in qualifying,
34:40well,
34:40that is all that time gone.
34:41So we won't be seeing,
34:43therefore,
34:43what George Russell did last year,
34:46gaining a position and just accepting the ten second penalty,
34:50was it,
34:50at the time?
34:50Because he felt that he was getting blocked behind.
34:52Yeah.
34:52How wrong, how wrong, that's right.
34:54Yeah, and thought,
34:55I'll just take the penalty,
34:56because I'll gain track position,
34:57and pull away by more than ten seconds.
34:59But actually he didn't,
35:00because then we had the funny business of teammates helping each other.
35:03Yeah,
35:03a lot of that was because of the mandatory two-stop race
35:07that brought in some interesting strategies,
35:11shall we say.
35:12But yeah,
35:13George Russell shouldn't be doing that.
35:14If he does do it,
35:15and it is thought to be deliberate,
35:16I would imagine there's a massive penalty coming his way.
35:19On board with Isaac Kajar.
35:20And every time he goes through this corner successfully,
35:23that would be another tick in the box there,
35:24and job well done.
35:25A lot less curb usage from Isaac all around the lap compared to Kimi,
35:30being a little bit more gentle,
35:32as you would expect,
35:33but I'm sure he's going to gain confidence going into qualifying.
35:35That's the problem, isn't it,
35:50and I feel like Kajar's driving within himself a little bit there
35:53as Russell heads to the line.
35:54A tenth down on his team-mate,
35:56but holds on to that fastest first sector.
35:5921 minutes in,
36:01and for all the talk of Ferrari dominance,
36:03it's Mercedes 1 and 2.
36:04Let's go down to Bernie Collins.
36:07Yes,
36:07I'm down actually watching the cars come through that chicane
36:10close to swimming pool,
36:12and you can see the yellow curb.
36:13We see the Haas go through there.
36:15Lots of drivers taking very different amounts of that yellow curb.
36:19See the Ferrari quite on top of the yellow curb,
36:21really upset in the car on exit,
36:23and you can actually see on the track on exit,
36:26that was not the right line through that curb,
36:28for example,
36:29but you can see on exit
36:31where the cars have actually been impacting the ground.
36:33So you can see the little white divots from the front wing.
36:36Catlac coming through very, very slowly on a clear lap there,
36:39and it is impressive.
36:40You see the Ferrari coming,
36:42much more of the curve.
36:43The Red Bull on a slow lap,
36:44not taking any.
36:45The Williams also on a slow lap,
36:47totally avoiding it,
36:48but you can see the more,
36:50some cars are able to read that curve a little bit more.
36:54Very upset on exit,
36:56even where the cars have left a little bit slow.
36:58Other cars completely avoiding it,
37:00making the corner much more aggressive
37:02by having to take a much wider line through there,
37:05but really interesting corner to watch,
37:07the differences in the cars as they come through here.
37:09It was a 1.10.9 last year for Charles Leclerc
37:12that was the fastest time of this session.
37:14He's just gone quickest with a 1.13.3
37:17with 23 minutes or so gone of this session in 2026,
37:21and he's 19 milliseconds clear of Kimi Antonelli
37:25with George Russell,
37:26Oscar Piastri and Lewis Hamilton
37:28completing the top five.
37:38We're having a lot of fun watching the drivers
37:40around the track here in Monaco.
37:42It's a bit of a serious business out there.
37:44Where did I do?
37:45So, mid to exit turn one,
37:48you can take less kerb
37:49and exit turn 12.
37:53He's got the serious business of a pole
37:55to try and get this into the chicane.
37:59That's what happens when the car in front
38:00has cut the chicane.
38:01It's just a little bit closer than you expect,
38:04exiting the chicane there for Kimi Antonelli,
38:07who had his issues, didn't he, last year
38:08at this particular corner,
38:11and a very bumpy ride over the kerb.
38:13It's amazing how he took so much kerb
38:16in that instance
38:17that it actually helped to pivot the car around
38:19as George Russell has too much rotation in the car.
38:23That's how you pivot.
38:24It helps you pivot,
38:26but the biggest problem is
38:27it's when it lands.
38:29You know, it gets a second bounce
38:30if you bounce off that kerb too hard
38:32and you can't get the traction down.
38:33Yeah, it's hard to get the traction down
38:35when the car, as you saw from the slow-mos,
38:37mid-air,
38:38and there's nothing touching the ground.
38:40But I think he must have had to take that line
38:43because he was distracted from the car in front.
38:45I don't think that's the usual line
38:47around the Nouveau chicane.
38:48But interesting that not satisfied with his lap,
38:52Kimi Antonelli's still asking,
38:53where am I finding,
38:54where am I losing time
38:55to my teammate, George Russell?
38:58You see there's a yellow flag out there somewhere.
39:00It's just popped up on the graphic.
39:02Just looking to see
39:03if anyone's going slowly or not.
39:06Sergio Perez was going through
39:09Casino Square,
39:10but it wasn't him.
39:13If anyone's gone off,
39:14they've gone off very briefly
39:15and come back onto the track again.
39:19Let's have a look.
39:20Franco Colapinto down towards Mirabeau.
39:23And the hairpin
39:25on the mid part of the hill.
39:28Whoa, whoa, whoa.
39:29It's a touch with the barriers,
39:31but a light contact.
39:33That looked like he...
39:35he had push, right?
39:38What, so the car was...
39:39he was off throttle.
39:41That was close.
39:42Really close.
39:43Norton was almost in the barrier there.
39:45Big guy at a big moment
39:46and that's moving forward.
39:47I had no idea what happened,
39:49but I just hit a bump
39:50and nearly lost the car.
39:51Yeah, that was a good recovery.
39:53I see what you mean about Franco.
39:54Like, he's lifted off
39:56and then there's still
39:57some power
39:58that shouldn't be there.
40:00It's like his charge
40:00was completely full,
40:01like we were saying before.
40:03Ah, he's a needed man.
40:05Completely in the way.
40:07Yeah, copy.
40:08Saw that.
40:09Well, he's backing off
40:10to get some space
40:11and Kimi wants to back off
40:12and get some space.
40:13Kimi was on a flyer.
40:14Was he on a flyer?
40:16Oh, he's coming in.
40:18He had two purples.
40:20Well, leave us hanging there,
40:21Kimi, why don't you?
40:23Yeah, he's looking mighty, isn't he?
40:25Do you reckon he might have been
40:26the first into the 112s
40:28if they carried that lap on?
40:29Definitely.
40:30He would have been on the 112s
40:31the previous lap as well.
40:34His teammate George Russell
40:35where he made contact
40:37puts her back
40:37on her previous lap.
40:40There was a kiss.
40:43You'll always find a car
40:45on the exit
40:45of that swimming pool
40:46it seems.
40:47And then you're
40:48right in the way
40:49into Raskas
40:50and do you know what?
40:51He went so, so deep there
40:52George Russell.
40:53That was Alex Albon.
40:56Sorry, Carlos Sainz
40:57just ahead of him.
40:59Got a thumbs up
41:00from George.
41:02He wasn't overly chuffed
41:03then, was he?
41:05I'd like to see
41:06an off-board of that
41:07because
41:08how close was he
41:10to making contact
41:11with the barrier
41:12on the exit of Raskas
41:13there?
41:14Desperate to carry the speed
41:15wasn't he?
41:15Because he was actually
41:16up on Antonelli's fastest lap
41:18although he didn't have
41:19any purple sectors
41:20he had two personal bests
41:21in his pocket
41:22and he got to that part
41:23of the track here
41:24as we see Bortoletto
41:26and he just didn't want
41:27to give up that momentum
41:28and that time
41:28and got Sainz in front
41:30on a prep lap
41:32and that's quite a
41:34quite a common thing
41:35particularly in FP3.
41:3722 cars
41:38in Q1
41:39a little later
41:40and I know
41:41it's only two cars
41:42more than last year
41:43and we've had
41:44way more cars
41:44in the past
41:45at Monaco
41:45but traffic
41:46is going to be
41:48a major issue
41:48isn't it?
41:51Yeah
41:51so that's why
41:52he had Hamilton
41:53in front of him
41:53Sainz
41:54so it's just that
41:56knock-on effect
41:56chain reaction
41:57of cars going
41:58slowly on outlaps
41:59and this is what
42:00it looked like
42:00again from
42:01on board Russell
42:03just locks up
42:05and almost
42:05straight on
42:06into the barrier
42:08even has time
42:09to make a switch
42:10change as well
42:11before giving him
42:12a thumbs up
42:14Right
42:14so let's go down
42:16to Alpine
42:17we saw Franco
42:18Colopinto
42:18make a little tap
42:19at the rear
42:20Bernie Collins
42:21into the barrier
42:22how's things looking?
42:24Yeah
42:24Croftier
42:25I didn't see the
42:25incident because
42:26I don't have a camera
42:26in front of me
42:27but I would suggest
42:28looking at this rear wing
42:29slightly more
42:30than a little tap
42:31so hopefully
42:32you can see
42:32the rear wing
42:33in the car
42:33it is nowhere near
42:35level with what
42:36you would expect
42:37so the end plate
42:38or the main plane
42:39is not level
42:40it's down on the
42:41left hand side
42:41when it came into
42:42the pit stop
42:43both of the end
42:44plates of the wing
42:45are completely
42:46disconnected at the
42:47bottom
42:47so just
42:48flipping around
42:49in the wind
42:49so that's 100%
42:51going to be a rear wing
42:51change
42:52if not more
42:53for Franco
42:53Colopinto there
42:54we're getting into
42:55taking it off
42:55but that rear wing
42:56does not look
42:57in the best of health
42:58a tad skew-width
42:59I think
43:00is the
43:01is the correct
43:01phraseology
43:02well the rear wing
43:03is designed to take
43:04load from one direction
43:05and as he goes in
43:06backwards
43:06it's obviously
43:07taking that load
43:09the way it wasn't
43:10supposed to take it
43:11so yeah
43:12they're quite easy
43:13to break
43:13when the carbon
43:16is working against
43:18its direction
43:18but
43:19sign step
43:20all out of shape
43:21through the nouvelle
43:22chicane
43:23ran a little bit wide
43:24and that middle sector
43:25reflects that
43:29it's interesting
43:30to compare
43:31the two Williams
43:32the two drivers
43:32styles
43:33on this lap
43:34and the struggles
43:35that both seem
43:37to be having
43:37as they make their way
43:38around the streets
43:40of Monaco
43:40Carlos Sainz
43:41three podiums
43:43here in the last
43:43five years
43:46and the point scoring
43:47finish
43:48in
43:50Canada
43:51last time out
43:52starting on the
43:52intermediate tyres
43:53might not have been
43:54very foremost in his
43:56mind when we finally
43:58got racing
43:59it seemed like a
44:00decision that you
44:02could understand
44:02for those in the
44:03mid of the pack
44:04when the track was
44:05wet but we then
44:06lost six minutes
44:07whilst Lindblad's car
44:08got cleared away
44:09JB
44:09and the track
44:10dried out pretty
44:11quick
44:11it did
44:12didn't it
44:12it did
44:13yeah they're
44:14always tricky
44:15decisions but it
44:16did look very dry
44:17at the start
44:18the race
44:19but it did at the
44:19start I think
44:21because it was so
44:22cold people weren't
44:23expecting too close
44:24to the wall
44:25Franco
44:26if you hit it
44:27that was perfect
44:27for qualifying
44:28Q3
44:28because it was so
44:29cold people weren't
44:30expecting the track
44:31to dry but the
44:31wind was absolutely
44:32blowing a gale
44:33and that's what
44:34caught McLaren
44:36it's yeah
44:37paid the price
44:38sadly
44:38bus for their
44:391000th Grand Prix
44:40their hopes are high
44:41that they can make
44:43amends for Montreal
44:44Zach Brown the CEO
44:45listening on the
44:46pit wall
44:47Zach late night
44:48for the team in the
44:49garage last night
44:50talk us through it
44:51how are you
44:51yeah we had
44:53obviously our issue
44:54yesterday on
44:54Lando's car
44:55and not quite
44:57positive
44:58what the final issue
44:59was battery
45:01electric related
45:02so we decided to
45:03change everything
45:04in precautionary
45:05so the team was
45:06here until about
45:073 in the morning
45:07they did a great job
45:08so looks like
45:10we're making
45:11some improvements
45:12today
45:12Zach
45:13Anthony here
45:13you mentioned
45:14late nights
45:15for the team
45:15here at Circuit
45:16what about
45:16back at base
45:17trying to turn
45:18things around
45:18speed wise
45:19was there a lot
45:20of sim work
45:21going on
45:22yeah always
45:23we weren't very
45:24happy with
45:24yesterday
45:25it looks like
45:25we've taken a
45:26step forward
45:26today
45:27maybe closed
45:28the gap a little
45:29bit
45:29still the times
45:30Mercedes and Ferrari
45:31are putting down
45:31are pretty impressive
45:32so have some work
45:34cut out ahead of us
45:35but I feel like
45:35we've got a better
45:36race car today
45:36team's doing a good
45:38job
45:38hey Zach
45:39it's Jensen
45:40good luck
45:40by Oscar
45:41there
45:4213-6
45:44for them
45:44was it a
45:45set up issue
45:46in terms of
45:47feel or was it
45:48a confidence issue
45:48for the car
45:50I think a little
45:51bit of both
45:51we definitely
45:52you know
45:52we've been trying
45:53some different
45:53aerodynamic changes
45:55here this session
45:55going back and forth
45:56between the two
45:57drivers
45:57so I think
45:58as you know
45:59if you get a car
46:00that feels a bit
46:01more planted
46:01then they'll
46:02get it on its nose
46:03a little bit more
46:03so I think
46:04it's been a
46:04combination of
46:05both
46:05giving them a car
46:06they're more
46:06comfortable with
46:07where do you see
46:08yourself
46:08come the end
46:09of qualifying
46:10Zach
46:10is a second
46:12row possible
46:12today
46:15I'd like to
46:16say yes
46:16but I think
46:17that's me being
46:18a bit optimistic
46:18I think the
46:19Mercedes
46:20the Ferrari
46:22and Max
46:23Max look tough
46:24so I think
46:25third row
46:26unless someone
46:27makes a mistake
46:27which unfortunately
46:29in Formula 1
46:29they don't do
46:30very often
46:30so we'll see
46:32second row
46:33wouldn't shock me
46:34but might be
46:35on the optimistic
46:35side
46:36thank you Zach
46:37love the optimism
46:38we'll speak to you
46:39in qualifying
46:40a little later
46:41on
46:42track dominance
46:43Antonelli
46:44and Leclerc
46:46there's a lot
46:47more where
46:48Antonelli has
46:48pace over
46:49Charles Leclerc
46:49so far
46:50interestingly
46:50the third
46:51sector
46:53is really
46:54where I noticed
46:55that the
46:55Mercedes
46:56seems to be
46:56sliding around
46:57a lot less
46:57than the Ferrari
46:58by the end
46:58of the lap
46:59I just wondered
47:00if it's a little
47:00bit kinder
47:01on its tyres
47:01the rear tyres
47:02and that's
47:02helping them
47:03there
47:03otherwise
47:04I'd be surprised
47:05to see that
47:06usually
47:06in the swimming
47:08pool section
47:08especially
47:09the Ferrari
47:10we've all heard
47:11has a lot of
47:11downforce
47:12and that should
47:12be helping
47:13them there
47:13so yeah
47:14surprised to see
47:16Antonelli
47:16holding track
47:17dominance
47:18through that
47:18part
47:19compared to
47:19them
47:19so 24 minutes
47:21to go
47:22of this session
47:22out on track
47:23at the moment
47:23Alonso
47:24and Peres
47:25and Lindblad
47:26Albon
47:27and Lawson
47:28we just saw
47:28Albon
47:28in the runoff
47:29at Sandoval
47:30and the rest
47:31all in the garage
47:35let's keep fighting
47:39today
47:39you think we're
47:40going to get
47:4020 minutes to go
47:41here
47:42of free practice
47:43in Monaco
47:45and for Liam Lawson
47:46save of the day
47:49wow
47:51it looks more
47:53dramatic here
47:53that was gross
47:57it certainly was
47:59he has been
48:00having an adventure
48:01and a half
48:02through that
48:02swimming pool
48:03section
48:04and avoiding
48:05the barriers
48:05well done
48:06to him
48:07back on track
48:08back live
48:09on board
48:10with Kimi Antonelli
48:11Mercedes cars
48:12out there
48:12on the soft
48:13compound tyre
48:14new soft compound tyre
48:16and starting to push
48:17and extend
48:18potentially their
48:19advantage
48:20out in front
48:21Kimi Antonelli
48:22half a second up
48:23so far
48:24on this lap
48:24George Russell
48:25his teammate
48:26behind him
48:27couple of tenths down
48:28through the first
48:29sector
48:29we get to
48:30Raskas now
48:31with Kimi Antonelli
48:32and he's fighting
48:33all the while
48:34to then ride off
48:35the final curb
48:36and make the dash
48:38towards the line
48:39this is going to be
48:39a time
48:40in the 1 minute
48:4112s it is
48:42a 1.12.7
48:43for Kimi Antonelli
48:44and not the fastest
48:45final sector
48:46dropped a couple of tenths
48:47in that last part
48:48of the lap
48:49George Russell
48:50has backed off
48:51on his current lap
48:52in the middle sector
48:53so let's go to
48:54Charles Leclerc
48:55yeah Leclerc
48:56looked like he was
48:57maybe a little bit deep
48:58into the nouveau chicane
48:59it's the personal best sector
49:00of course
49:01on these new tyres
49:02but lost a bit of time
49:03I feel compared to
49:04Antonelli
49:05who really hooked
49:06things up there
49:06but no
49:07he's got traffic
49:07in the final sector
49:10so we're never
49:11going to know
49:11because Kimi Antonelli
49:13didn't have
49:13the best sector
49:14at all
49:16even by his standards
49:17so yeah
49:18he had gone there
49:19he had been faster
49:20before
49:21but now Leclerc
49:22has to back out
