00:00At around 2.50 p.m. a traffic incident occurred on the Claude Noel Highway
00:05near the Daryl Spring walkover involving two maxi-taxis transporting students.
00:11Preliminary police reports suggest that one of the maxi-taxis experienced a
00:16brake failure leading to a collision with the other. Fortunately emergency
00:21services arrived promptly to ensure the safety of those involved and according
00:26to Education Secretary Zerisha Hackett she remains grateful that the situation
00:30was not worse. The Education Secretary told TV6 News that she wants to
00:36reassure the public that the protection and welfare of Tobago's children as well
00:41as the well-being of the maxi-taxi drivers are of utmost importance to her
00:46and the division she leads. The Public Transport Service Corporation which
00:52monitors the school transport service is working closely with the Trinidad and
00:57Tobago Police Service and the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service on the
01:01division's behalf to gather a full understanding of the cause of this
01:05incident. A comprehensive report is expected soon and once it is received
01:11the findings will be communicated to the public. The Education Secretary added the
01:17tech is continuously reviewing the safety protocols for the school
01:21transport service to ensure the highest standards are maintained. This ongoing
01:27evaluation allows us to identify and implement improvements as needed
01:33reinforcing our commitment to the safety of our children the drivers and everyone
01:39involved in school transportation. She then extended her deepest appreciation
01:44to the emergency responders for their swift and professional response and
01:49gave an assurance that the tech remains fully committed to the security and
