Seth and Sean discuss their hype seeing Tank Dell doing some walkthrough drills at OTAs and oddly enough the downturn of syphoning gas.
Transcript
00:00Here is Nick Casario, Texans Executive Vice President and General Manager, on this very show a couple of days ago
00:06when we asked him,
00:07hey, we know there's been no specific timeline out there. We know that the answer's been, hey, things are day
00:12-to-day.
00:13Will Tankdale practice at some point?
00:17Yes. I would say more than likely it'll probably be in training camp.
00:22You know, we have about, I don't know, however many days left here in the spring, but there are certain
00:26things that he's able to do.
00:29He's done things on the field, maybe separately, kind of off to the side.
00:32I think the goal is training camp, so we'll kind of see if he stays on schedule.
00:37But, I mean, nobody's worked harder. Nobody's had a better attitude.
00:40You know, we're talking about a player that hasn't played football in almost 18 months or however long it's been.
00:46But, you know, his attitude, his approach, he's chomping at the bit, and he's certainly anxious and wants to be
00:52out there.
00:53By the same token, we want to make sure that we're taking care of him and doing the right things
00:57and putting him in a position where he can go out there and be the best version of himself.
01:01So I would say training camp seems like a reasonable time frame in terms of his availability in terms of
01:08next steps.
01:09Okay, so now barely 24 hours later, Tank was actually doing things late in yesterday's OTAs in the walkthrough port.
01:18Really, the whole practice was kind of one big walkthrough.
01:20Frankly, I felt betrayed by Nick Casario.
01:23Well, that's where I wonder what his definition of practicing was when he gave that answer to us.
01:29I think that I know Nick at times will listen to our show, or at the very least, you know,
01:33all those guys have people, you know, send them things.
01:37All the GMs have staff that will tell them what they need to know.
01:40So I wonder if he's heard us talking about it.
01:43He knows that we're talking about out there in 11 and 11 drills.
01:45Yes.
01:46And so that might have been what he was envisioning as well, is that it would be training camp before
01:52you really see him in 11 versus 11, 11 on 11 stuff.
01:55That's how I interpret it, especially with him just within a day after Nick said that, being out there and
02:01doing stuff with a helmet on and running around a little bit.
02:03And I think the big takeaway is, look, the big takeaway for me, yes, independent of anything Nick said on
02:11our show or what the timeline is or training camp is, training camp that,
02:16just seeing Tank Dell out there with a helmet on and a, you know, shells or, you know, just his
02:21jersey and shorts running around catching a football was really refreshing for me to see out there.
02:28There's a, someone who's a big fan of Tank Dell and a big fan of the Texans.
02:31I know it doesn't, it, it means very little when it comes to what exactly is Tank Dell going to
02:36be when it, when the pads do go on.
02:38It's just, it was such a devastating injury, not only to the severity, but because of who it was on.
02:44He's just such a popular player.
02:45Yeah.
02:46You know, it was cool to see.
02:47Just see him out there and do that.
02:50And it was in a half-speed drill where, you know, some people were reading way too much into it.
02:55But, um, and so to judge a guy who's kind of go out there in a very laid-back drill,
03:00I don't, I guess, knowing, you know,
03:04knowing that, uh, what he's coming back from and everything, if I had to make a judgment, I'd say, yeah,
03:09that probably doesn't look like prime TJ, uh, uh, uh, prime Tank Dell.
03:13Um, but I also have to remember that he's going half-speed.
03:16Yeah.
03:17So, like, I'm not going to judge him based on that.
03:19I'm going to judge him based when I see him out there in 11 on 11.
03:21I would judge him more now on the videos of him doing all the cutting and things like that.
03:26That's where he's doing it more aggressively.
03:28And, yeah.
03:28But the difference with the drills, the difference between those drills and just even a non-contact football drill
03:33is you know exactly where you're putting your feet in a non-contact, in a agility drill.
03:40You know exactly what your route is and everything.
03:42When you're adjusting to a ball, when you're coming down and trying to stay in bounds,
03:45that's, there's just a whole nother level of play.
03:49So, just each step along the way, you're going to hopefully see more and more.
03:52That'll be the biggest test for the knee, right?
03:53When he's in a, he's put in a position where it's unpredictable as to how your feet are going to
03:59land.
03:59Yeah.
03:59Or you've got to, or you've got to make a, a violent cut all of a sudden to juke a
04:04guy
04:05or to create separation or whatever it is.
04:08Um, we don't know what that looks like.
04:10So, that's a great point.
04:10One of the reasons people don't siphon gas as much anymore, Sean, is that the, um, the,
04:17the fuel, uh, the fuel systems, uh, where you fill it, it's just harder to do.
04:23Oh.
04:23So, you can't carry around a garden hose and do it.
04:26Okay.
04:26Because they're narrower and there's like anti-spilled, you know, devices in there and everything.
04:30Yeah, yeah.
04:31So, you can't, it's just harder to do.
04:32Okay.
04:33So, that's fallen.
04:34And property, property, uh, crimes since 1991 have declined 50 to 55%.
04:42Where, what, it's just less crime in America.
04:45In America.
04:45Okay, gotcha.
04:46Yeah, yeah.
04:47That's how that tracks.
04:49Yeah.
04:49I feel like there used to be way more petty theft that I would hear about when I was growing
04:53up.
04:53Yeah, definitely.
04:54Good job, America.
04:56Steadily stealing less and less.
04:57Let's not pat America on the head quite yet because we're just doing it because there's
05:01cameras everywhere now.
05:03It's not like, you know.
05:04No, it goes back to 1991.
05:06Yeah.
05:06So, it started, property theft and violent crime started declining.
05:10Um, and then there's been a big drop this century in violent crime.
05:13That's probably the camera part.
05:14With spikes and valleys and everything.
05:16Yeah.
05:16But, but yeah, like there's been a huge drop.
05:18Yeah, yeah.
05:19Ironically enough, I know since we're talking about unleaded gasoline, one of the big things
05:24that they figure might have led to a decrease in violent crime was when they call it lead
05:29our environment.
05:30Oh, yeah.
05:30You know, the boomers were growing up with lead.
05:32You know, they were eating lead cereal in the morning.
05:34Yep.
05:35Uh, it really messes you up.
05:37It does.
05:38It does.
05:39They were, yeah.
05:40Uh, lead tongue, uh, lead tongue depressors at the doctor's office.
05:45There you go.
05:46Hot, hot lead massage.
05:48Instead of hot rocks, you would go get a massage and you'd have a hunks of lead on your back.
05:52Right, right.
05:52You go to the dentist and they put that Mr. Thirsty in your mouth to suck out all the
05:56saliva.
05:56What's that made of?
05:57Lead.
05:57Lead.
05:58Yeah.
05:59Yeah.
05:59Um, yeah.
05:59The text message.
06:00Can't siphon gas because of the anti-siphon installed on modern vehicles.
06:04So there you go.
06:04Yeah.
06:04So now if you're really ambitious, though, I guess they'll, they'll drill into the, uh,
06:09like drill into the side of the vehicle.
06:11Oh, I'm sure the real thieves have found a way.
06:12I'm sure.
06:13And then trucks have to worry about it still.
06:15Yeah.
06:15Cause if you're a, if you're a vicious again, you go to a big truck and just siphon off
06:19a bunch of diesel.
06:20I'm going to do it this weekend.
06:22I'm going to siphon some gas.
06:23Oh yeah.
06:23Yeah.
06:24I'm going to do it.
06:24Yeah.
06:25Okay.
06:25That's it.
06:26I'm going to have the most bad-ass mugshot.
06:28Yes.
06:28And then have your one phone call be to the show at 6am on Monday morning while you're
06:34sitting, rotting in your prison cell.
06:35People are going to ask, what are you in for?
06:37I'm like the old S hoping they know what that means.
06:41I don't know.
06:42Yeah.
06:42I'm in for S.
06:43They're like, so we spelled all the other, all the other prisoners.
06:46Like, so do we torment him for this or not?
06:49You don't even know.
06:50You never even heard of the crime that I did.
06:52Yeah.
06:52Ken Carmen fell ass backwards into being named take a mania champ is what a text message
06:57says.
06:57He didn't even know how much luck he had.
07:00Fell ass backwards into it.
07:01That's right.
07:02That's right.
07:03All right.
07:03Payton Pendergast with you.
07:05Hey, let's play one more about tank.
07:06As long as we're talking about him, here's Nico.
07:09Collins on.
07:10You know, you don't want to see when your bows go down, especially with a freak.
07:13Injury like he did, you know, but to see him coming back, you know, progression, coming
07:18back, getting his groove back slowly, man, it's definitely a blessing to see.
07:21You know, you don't want to see nobody, you know, get hurt.
07:23You know, you know, he loved his game a thousand percent.
07:25You know, he want to be out there with us, you know, so it's only right you be there
07:28with him in his corner, continue to root him up, continue to push him, tell him he got
07:33it.
07:33Keep your spirits up.
07:34That's what you need at the end of the day.
07:35You know, you need your brother right beside you.
07:37And I want him to show him that he got me, you know, he got his whole team, you know,
07:40to get him through his whole process so he can get back on that field spinning how he
07:43used to be, you know, so that's the whole goal at the end of the day.
07:45Someone asked me yesterday, Seth, as I was out and about, out about town, they said,
07:50what, what leg, his tanks had a broken leg, a gunshot wound, and now this devastating knee
07:57injury, which is the knee injury was worse than the other two combined.
08:00And they were like, which leg were all these on the broken leg and the knee injury were
08:06on the same.
08:07It's the left leg.
08:08It's been the same leg.
08:09The weird thing was I Googled the gunshot wound and there's nowhere like the AI couldn't find
08:15anywhere that confirmed which leg had the, what do they call it again?
08:19The through and through and through and through.
08:20That was the positive part about it.
08:22It went straight through and through.
08:23Yup.
08:23Yup.
08:24And I didn't like the tank was so now the tank was familiar with the term through.
08:28I hated that.
08:28He just kind of casually dropped it.
08:30He was like, yeah, it was a through and through.
08:31Right.
08:31Oh man.
08:32No kid should know the casually that it's a through and through.
08:35You're somebody that's been around this stuff.
08:37Yeah.
08:37Like it's no.
08:38You got a through and through and now you know.
08:40Yup.
08:40So how about that?
08:41Both the, the broken leg and the busted up knee on the same, that poor left leg of his,
08:45man.
08:46That's where I'm going to, I'm going to tell tank.
08:48So you've been shot.
08:49Yeah.
08:50Yeah.
08:50You know what?
08:50I did time for a 3103.
08:52Right.
08:52Which is a siphoning gas.
08:54That's a, that's a, that's a, that's general theft statute.
08:57Siphoning.
08:57In the, uh, that's a, in Texas.
09:00Uh, yeah.
09:01So for the Texas penal code, it would be a 3103 siphoning gas.
09:04You went and looked up what the code is.
09:06Well, it's just general theft.
09:07Right.
09:083103.
09:08They don't even know.
09:09They don't even have a specific code for it because it's just so uncommon these days.
09:12Oh my God.
