00:00i want to start by asking though because i feel like you have kind of the similar burden that uh
00:05jfk jr did which is that you're so and excuse me for being direct you're so good looking so
00:13charismatic that i feel like sometimes people discount you i would love to know how you have
00:20felt being addressed and being um kind of perceived by the public with this being your first big step
00:28into the spotlight yeah i mean it's definitely been interesting um takes a little getting used to
00:34i personally don't try to look at it that way or see it that way but i guess you know
00:39there are
00:40certain instances where that has been perceived you know there's just like no substance um to me
00:46because of the way i look or or whatever it may be um so being able to prove that wrong
00:53is is
00:54definitely a proud point um but going into this show and the press and everything that's required
01:01now and you know kind of being at the forefront and and uh just out there in the public and
01:07in this
01:08new sphere i carry a lot of john with me in that that's kind of um my biggest well one
01:15of my biggest
01:15takeaways from doing this show and getting to know him on on my own personal level um and you know
01:22go
01:22into these situations with uh uh a confidence and charisma and you know don't sweat the small
01:29stuff and just have fun with it and i think that's also where i really rely on my humor too
01:34because
01:35i am uncomfortable so it's easier to like crack a joke break the ice and then you just feel good
01:40with
01:40it how many times do you think you've heard profiles and courage i know that you've said it so
01:45many times how many times i mean you know this is a good question and i after this i will
01:53go back on
01:53my little spotify app and see how many hours i've actually listened to it because i think it it totals
01:58that um but i from front to back i mean uh probably like at least over a hundred i would
02:09just play it on
02:10repeat and it would just go and you know i'd put my headphones in and it would be like halfway
02:15through
02:15chapter five when it's not profiles and courage what else is playing on spotify for you oh my gosh
02:22well while filming i pretty much mostly listen to like 90s alternative um a lot of helmet tripping
02:30daisy nine inch nails did you find that it helped ground you because a lot of that music is very
02:36headbanging it is very headbanging but you know what for me it's like what i like to listen to
02:42when i'm active i mean i like to listen to having that a lot regardless it for me i think
02:46the the
02:47rhythms and the pulsation and and the aggression that comes out of it really just like centers me
02:54um i find it very soothing um but for the show you know john's such an active guy he's he's
03:03always on the
03:03go it was always you know doing some physical form of meditation whether it be running all the time
03:12or riding a bike or rollerblading or working out for me it was great to just get into that because
03:18it was like oh there's another similarity between the two of us in our music taste i think mine might
03:23be a little bit heavier than his unfortunately i can't ask him that would have been like one of my
03:28questions um but yeah it was just like a good commonality i had between the two where i could
03:35also bring in a little bit of myself into this performance as well you know you touched on the
03:40physical side of of jfk jr and how he was always on the go now one of the things that
03:45i really noticed
03:45and honed in on in this performance is that it felt like you're the version that you were bringing
03:52to the table with him was that he was not an anxious person i would love to ask about the
03:57conscious choice in scenes like that and how you found that side of the physicality as opposed to the
04:03always running always jumping always doing all of those things mm-hmm well i think that's i mean i
04:10would work out every day before set two and from my understanding or what i got from a gut feeling
04:15of
04:16john um was that that's why he did the physicality i'm always doing something um it's hard for me to
04:24focus entirely the physical physicality before any of these things or these moments for john in the show
04:31really let him just settle um and then he was more present you know present with who he was with
04:37or present within himself and i think it was a great asset too paul i wanted to also ask you
04:44about
04:45stepping in and finding out that naomi watts is going to play jackie at what point did you find
04:50out that it would be the iconic naomi watts to play your mom i found out that naomi was going
04:56to play
04:57jackie i think around the same time that they um released our our information the casting
05:05no um and i was like you gotta be kidding me what you know i've been a fan of naomi's
05:11for
05:11so long i love i love her work she's just so talented and like so down to earth and real
05:17and
05:17she just has it so i've always been a fan and then being able to be like hey mom what
05:23was funny games
05:24like hey mom you know like the ring so cool i know this is your kind of your first major
05:30project did
05:30she usher you through or give you any advice here or there she did yeah she really just kept it
05:35very
05:35easy and simple and she's such a uh a giving scene partner and an actor in her own right i
05:41came in as
05:42absolutely prepared as i possibly could because this was my first thing i i really had to
05:48really button down um and i didn't want to mess it up in any way shape or form so i
05:53was like really
05:54prepared and then i think really just like watching her um integrate jackie into her performance and and
06:06also be nervous about things on a first day like our first day together was the scene at the dinner
06:11table when i come back from playing football and then i have to eat steak and we have this little
06:17family tiff um which was so fun i think just being with her and seeing just how she approached the
06:27work
06:27and and you know it just was like oh okay this is i'm on the same path you know it
06:35was kind of um
06:38a relativity between the two of us there was a lot of scenes where john and carolyn are out in
06:42public
06:43versus ones where they're in private and you can kind of see a shift in the amount of emotion you
06:48portray in each scene like sometimes when you're out in public you will show less but then when you're
06:53with carolyn alone there's more how much planning went into that how much did you decide to show
06:59on your face in those public scenes versus the private scenes it just kind of happened i don't
07:05know it's these these these circumstances that you're in right i i definitely was very aware of
07:11the the public persona of john and the and what i perceived to be or or you know how i
07:18would
07:20handle these situations on the interior life in the private side of things and i think it just
07:27really happened organically you know you become more conscious of your surroundings when you're
07:33outside in the public um and then you know being the gentleman that he was and having eyes on him
07:41at
07:41all times i think i really instilled the public portion of his life and the private portion of
07:48his life within me before we really started going with the production and then it just kind of carried
07:55through organically i wanted to ask you also about um being on the opposite side of it now because i
08:01feel like you might have a better understanding um i've seen the internet comments i've seen the way
08:08that people have claimed you as their own um in a way that i think people did even pre-internet
08:14with
08:14john f kennedy jr and carolyn beset do you feel like you have a greater understanding now do you do
08:19you
08:19have a healthy relationship to the media and the public i think so yeah i definitely have a greater
08:25understanding and and um an even greater correlation to john in these moments because of you know just just
08:32being out there and in much the same way that he was so it's very interesting to have an even
08:39better
08:40understanding of what he went through on a day-to-day and i think that's also brought me closer to
08:48my understanding of him as well um yeah it's really interesting this whole the the correlation of
08:56of my personal life and being an actor to to john and carolyn's and what they went through and what
09:03we
09:03tried to um you know discover and live through this show it's becoming more and more a similar reality
