00:24I have long believed that engaging with distortion often amplifies it,
00:28but a recent tragedy-exploiting television series about John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette
00:34features a character using my name and presents her as me.
00:38The choice to portray her as irritating, self-absorbed, whiny, and inappropriate was no accident.
00:44Hannah insisted the series isn't a remotely accurate representation of my life, my conduct, or my relationship with John.
00:51The actions and behaviors attributed to me are untrue.
00:55Hannah continued,
00:56I have never used cocaine in my life or hosted cocaine-fueled parties.
01:00I have never pressured anyone into marriage.
01:03I have never desecrated any family heirloom or intruded upon anyone's private memorial.
01:08I have never planted any stories in the press.
01:11I never compared Jacqueline Onassis' death to a dog's.
01:15She also said it's appalling that she has to defend herself against a TV show,
01:19reiterating that the embellishments of her personality are false.
01:23Later in her essay, Hannah noted that her silence should not be mistaken for agreement with lies.
01:28Apparently, my discretion makes me a target. Reputation is not about ego.
01:33It is about the ability to continue doing the meaningful work I love.
01:36Like any career, doing good work requires an intact reputation.
01:40This is why I'm choosing to stand up for myself now.
01:43Later in the essay, Hannah claimed that since the show premiered on February 12th,
01:47she's received many hostile and even threatening messages from viewers,
01:51who seem to believe the portrayal is factual.
