00:00Truly tragic story. Now, pipelines laid, crores spent to get water to villages, but still no supply.
00:09That is the story this summer from Jabua in Madhya Pradesh. Nearly 430 crore rupees spent, but no results to
00:17show.
00:18Ravish Pal Singh travelled across the district to find out where the promise was broken.
00:22Here is tonight's Get Real India story.
00:43This is Jabua in western Madhya Pradesh.
00:47On paper, every household here was supposed to receive tap water under the Jaljeevan mission.
00:54But on the ground, women are still digging pits and dry riverbeds for a few litres of muddy water.
01:04Villages say the pipelines were laid here in 2022, but four years later, not a single drop has flowed.
01:42But Khera is not alone.
01:43In the Bakatpura ward of Parapanchayat, residents say the scheme was officially completed and handed over in 2024.
01:53Yet, families are still paying for tanker water.
01:56The taps installed under the mission remain bone dry.
02:00In fact, these taps have become symbols of a failed promise.
02:25The story repeats itself in Dhandalpura.
02:27The tanker, the tanker, the tanker, is now being used to be made in Dhandalpura.
02:31The tanker, if you watch this, if you see this, there will be a few fit water as well.
02:44The tanker is still made here in the area.
02:46The water in the area for town is very full.
02:47This, which you see this, is the most 1.5 fit water.
02:57The system meant to purify drinking water remains unused because it was never given an electricity connection.
03:47Under the Jal Jeevan mission, nearly 430 million people were able to clean water.
04:00In Khera village, works worth 75 lakh rupees have been executed.
04:05In Para Panchayat, projects worth 50 lakh rupees have been completed.
04:09And in Dhandalpura, over 1.09 crore rupees has been spent on water tanks and pipeline infrastructure.
04:18So, where did the system fail?
04:23The Public Health Engineering Department says projects are completed and handed over to Panchayat.
04:30The minister cites summer conditions and falling groundwater levels.
04:34The files say the work is complete, the expenditure is accounted for.
04:49The big question, if not on ground, where did the crows go?
04:54And why is no one monitoring it?
04:58Residents of Jabua are desperate for a reply.
05:04With Ravish Pal Singh, Bureau Report, India Today.
