00:23The stories that matter, clear and credible from across the country to around the world. These are your unbiased updates
00:30from Straight Arrow News.
00:34Good morning, I'm Craig DeGrelli. This morning, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Joint Chiefs Chair General Dan Cain are set
00:41to brief reporters on the war in Iran.
00:43It follows another night of strikes between the United States, Israel and Iran. A massive fireball lit up the central
00:51Iranian city of Ifsfahan.
00:53Look, video shared by President Trump on social media. Ifsfahan is home to one of Iran's key nuclear sites targeted
01:01by U.S. strikes last June, you'll recall, where highly enriched uranium is believed to be stored or buried.
01:07Iranian state media also reported explosions across Tehran, with temporary power outages after shrapnel hit an electrical substation.
01:16Oil infrastructure is also taking major hits. Iran attacked Israel's Haifa refinery on Monday, and a Kuwaiti supertanker was hit
01:25off the coast of Dubai.
01:26No injuries or leaks reported, but state media says the ship was fully loaded at the time.
01:31Back here at home, gas prices are climbing. The national average has now topped $4 a gallon, according to AAA,
01:38a new high during the Trump era, and up by more than $1 a gallon since the war started.
01:44President Trump is now calling on Congress to return early from its two-week recess and pass a bill to
01:50fund the Department of Homeland Security.
01:52Lawmakers left Capitol Hill without a deal, extending what is already the longest partial government shutdown in U.S. history.
01:59The Senate passed a funding bill last week, but the House rejected it before leaving for Easter break on Friday.
02:06Speaker Mike Johnson called the Senate plan a joke.
02:09Senators also held a brief pro forma session, but did not take up the House version.
02:14White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt says Trump wants lawmakers to get back to Washington.
02:20He said that he'll host a big Easter dinner here at the White House if Congress will come back and
02:25fight the Democrats on this issue,
02:27which we should do because, again, the Democrat Party is in the wrong here.
02:30They have voted seven times against funding the Department of Homeland Security,
02:35which is completely egregious with everything we have going on in the world.
02:39And these brave men and women who serve DHS deserve to get their paychecks.
02:43The president wants to see that happen, and he wants Congress to come back to get it done.
02:48Before the recess, Trump said Congress should stay until a deal was reached,
02:52but he had not publicly called them back since they left.
02:55While he signed a measure to restore pay for TSA workers, helping to ease long lines at airports,
03:01thousands of other DHS employees are still going without pay after more than a month.
03:06The Israeli parliament has approved a controversial law allowing the death penalty for Palestinians convicted of deadly attacks.
03:15The Knesset passed the measure after hours of debate with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the chamber for the vote.
03:21Lawmakers approved at 62 to 48.
03:24The law makes the death penalty by hanging the default punishment for Palestinians in the West Bank convicted of nationalistic
03:32killings.
03:33Judges can still impose life sentences in limited cases.
03:36The push was led by far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gavir,
03:41who celebrated with supporters after the vote.
03:44They believe the law strengthens deterrence and sends a clear message.
03:48Some backers say it's long overdue.
03:50Others in the chamber warned it goes too far and could create legal and international consequences.
03:56Critics say the law is written in a way that largely applies to Palestinians.
04:01Military courts, which try West Bank Palestinians, would use it as the default sentence.
04:07Israeli civilians are tried in different courts with more discretion.
04:11In a statement, the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said,
04:14This law once again reveals the nature of the Israeli colonial system,
04:19which seeks to legitimize extrajudicial killing under legislative cover.
04:24The law is already facing legal challenges.
04:27Civil rights groups in Israel have moved to block it.
04:30International leaders have also weighed in,
04:32warning the law violates global standards on the death penalty.
04:36By the way, Israel has carried out only one execution in its history, in 1962.
04:42The law is set to take effect in 30 days, but legal challenges could delay or stop it.
04:48In Tennessee, the Army is reviewing a training flight after two attack helicopters flew low
04:54and hovered outside Kid Rock's home, video that he posted himself.
04:59You're about to see clips the Rocker shared right here on X.
05:02They show two Apache helicopters flying low and hovering just off his property near Nashville
05:08as he salutes and gestures toward the pilots.
05:11Army officials say the aircraft were on a training mission out of Fort Campbell.
05:15They fly routes in the Nashville area,
05:18but are now reviewing why the helicopters were operating that close to a private home.
05:22The same flight path also crossed over a No Kings protest in Nashville that day.
05:28The Army says that was not part of the mission.
05:31In a statement, a spokesman for the 101st Airborne Division said,
05:35quote, Army aviators must adhere to strict safety standards, professionalism,
05:40and established flight regulations.
05:42An administrative review is underway to assess the mission
05:45and verify compliance with regulations and airspace requirements.
05:49Appropriate action will be taken if any violations are found.
05:53The Army says Kid Rock did not request the flyover.
05:56The entertainer has long been a supporter of Donald Trump and the MAGA movement.
06:00Now investigators are looking at whether the flight followed standard procedures.
06:05Meantime, farther south, Florida is moving ahead with a plan to rename Palm Beach International Airport
06:11after President Donald Trump.
06:14Governor Ron DeSantis signed the bill on Monday.
06:16The name change is set to take effect on July 1st.
06:20The FAA says airport naming is a local decision, so no federal approval is required.
06:25But officials still have to update signs, systems, and secure rights to use Trump's name.
06:31The move would put the president's name on another major landmark near Mar-a-Lago,
06:35where he lives and often travels.
06:37Florida Republicans call it a tribute.
06:40Democrats call it a political stunt.
06:42And are raising questions about the cost of rebranding.
06:45Trump's family business says it won't take any royalties or fees from the change.
06:50And a timing note, the renaming comes as Trump-related trademarks are filed for airport branding,
06:56including products like luggage, watches, clothing, even pet apparel.
07:02Finally this morning, President Trump still has more than two years left in office,
07:06but he and his family are already looking ahead to how his presidency will be remembered.
07:11The president posted a video on Truth Social showing renderings of a massive skyscraper in Miami
07:17with Trump in large block letters across the top, similar to his hotels.
07:22The downtown tower would house his presidential library, rising over Biscayne Bay.
07:27Inside, plans call for a large atrium with U.S. military aircraft,
07:32including the Boeing 747 that Qatar gifted the White House for use as Air Force One.
07:38The administration says that plane would eventually be moved to the library after Trump leaves office.
07:45Renderings also show a replica of the Oval Office, with heavy gold trim and gold drapes.
07:50The project would be built on a 2.6-acre site provided by Miami-Dade College.
07:56The Miami Herald reports the foundation behind the project is looking to raise more than $1 billion to build it.
