00:41Good morning, I'm Craig DeGrelli.
00:43This morning the U.S.-Iran ceasefire is looking increasingly fragile
00:47after the United Arab Emirates says it responded to a new missile and drone attack.
00:52The escalation comes just hours after the U.S. said it stopped attacks
00:57on three Navy ships in the Strait of Hormuz and retaliated against Iranian military facilities.
01:03President Trump insists the ceasefire is still holding, but also warned Iran to sign a broader
01:09peace deal quickly or face a much stronger American response.
01:13They trifled with us today.
01:15We blew them away.
01:17They trifled.
01:18I call that a trifle.
01:19I'll let you know when there's no ceasefire.
01:21You won't have to know.
01:22If there's no ceasefire, you're not going to have to know.
01:25You're just going to have to look at one big glow coming out of Iran.
01:28And they better sign their agreement fast.
01:31Iranian officials say they are still reviewing the latest U.S. proposal,
01:35which would formally end the fighting and open a 30-day window for talks on bigger issues,
01:40including Iran's nuclear program and control of the Strait of Hormuz.
01:44Meanwhile, the renewed tensions are pushing oil prices higher again.
01:48Brent crude topped $100 a barrel early this morning,
01:52though it's still below the extreme spikes we saw earlier in the week.
01:55The U.S. standards saw little movement.
01:58The cruise ship hit by a deadly Hantavirus outbreak is now heading for Spain's Canary Islands
02:05as health officials race to contain the spread.
02:08Authorities in the Canary Islands are preparing a fully isolated evacuation zone
02:13for the roughly 140 passengers and crew still on board the MV Hondias.
02:18The expedition cruise ship is expected to arrive in Tenerife by the end of the weekend.
02:24U.S. officials are sending a charter flight to bring 17 Americans home,
02:28while the U.K. is arranging a separate flight for about 20 British passengers.
02:33The outbreak has killed at least three people.
02:36Several other cases have also been confirmed.
02:38The ship had been sailing near the remote South Atlantic island of St. Helena
02:43when passengers first started reporting flu-like symptoms.
02:46The World Health Organization says the risk to the general public remains low
02:50because Hantavirus is typically spread through contact with infected rodent droppings or urine,
02:56and human-to-human spread is considered rare.
02:59But the biggest concern now is tracking people down who already left the ship.
03:04About 30 passengers from more than a dozen countries disembarked two weeks ago
03:09before the outbreak was confirmed.
03:10Now, health officials around the world are working to identify those passengers
03:15and anyone they may have been in contact with.
03:18A federal court has struck down President Trump's latest global tariffs push.
03:24On Thursday, a three-judge panel of the Court of International Trade in New York
03:28ruled Trump's 10% global tariffs are illegal after a group of small businesses sued.
03:34Trump put the new tariffs in place after the Supreme Court blocked his broader Liberation Day tariffs earlier this year.
03:41In a two-to-one decision, the court said Trump overstepped his authority,
03:45calling the tariffs, quote, invalid and unauthorized by law.
03:48The Trump administration is expected to appeal,
03:51and the case could ultimately head back to the U.S. Supreme Court.
03:54Also Thursday, a federal judge ruled Elon Musk's Department of Government Deficiency cuts
04:00to humanities grants were unconstitutional.
04:03The case centers on more than $100 million in canceled grants through the National Endowment for the Humanities.
04:10The judge said Doge, quote, blatantly used race, gender and other protected characteristics
04:15in deciding which grants to terminate.
04:18The judge then issued a permanent block on the cuts.
04:21It's not yet clear whether the Trump administration will appeal the ruling.
04:25Down south, Florida could soon close its controversial Alligator Alcatraz immigration detention center in the Everglades,
04:33less than one year after state leaders touted it as a model for the Trump administration's crackdown on illegal immigration.
04:40The New York Times reports the state is now in preliminary talks with the administration about shutting down the facility
04:46after Homeland Security officials concluded it's too expensive and not working as intended.
04:51The state has spent $1 million a day to keep operating the site,
04:55which sits on a swampy stretch of the Everglades between Miami and Naples.
05:00The center opened last summer and became a political lightning rod,
05:04praised by President Trump and Republicans as a tough deterrent,
05:07while immigration advocates described conditions inside as inhumane and unsanitary.
05:12A senior official in Florida told Fox News the facility was always meant to be temporary,
05:18saying it would, quote,
05:19return to the Everglades once larger federal detention sites are opened.
05:23More than 21,000 migrants have been processed through the facility since it opened.
05:27You could soon be able to send a handgun through the mail via the U.S. Postal Service.
05:33The Trump administration is pushing to overturn a nearly 100-year-old federal restriction
05:38that bans most people from shipping concealable firearms through the mail.
05:43The Justice Department says the rule violates the Second Amendment that law-abiding gun owners
05:48should be allowed to mail handguns under the same types of safety requirements
05:53already used for rifles and shotguns.
05:55The proposal is already drawing pushback from Democratic attorneys general in more than 20 states,
06:01including Nevada, where the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history happened
06:05at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas in 2017.
06:09In a statement to the Associated Press, Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford said, quote,
06:14to suggest we make it easier for criminals and abusers to access firearms
06:19is a slap in the face to gun violence survivors and law enforcement.
06:23The NRA, though, is praising the change, while gun safety groups warn
06:27it could make illegal firearms harder to track.
06:30Finally this morning, the average life expectancy for men in the U.K. is about 79 years.
06:37But one of the world's most famous voices has blown past that milestone.
06:42Broadcaster and naturalist David Attenborough turns 100 today.
06:46For decades, his voice has been synonymous with wildlife, nature, and conservation,
06:51narrating some of the most iconic documentaries ever made.
06:54The BBC is marking the occasion with a special tribute broadcast featuring stories and reflections
07:00on his life and legacy.
07:02Attenborough says he has received birthday wishes from everywhere, from preschoolers to seniors
07:08in nursing homes, and says he's been touched by the response.
07:13I had rather thought that I would celebrate my 100th birthday quietly.
07:20But it seems that many of you have had other ideas.
07:24I simply can't reply to each of you all separately.
07:28But I would like to thank you all most sincerely for your kind messages.
07:34And to mark the milestone, the Natural History Museum has named a newly discovered species after him.
07:41It's called the Attenboroughculus tau.
07:44That's a newly identified species of parasitic wasp.
07:48Huh.
07:49A parasitic wasp.
07:50That should be like a Trivial Pursuit question, right?
07:53Or Final Jeopardy question?
07:55It'd be pretty tough to answer.
07:56All right, before we head out, here's what we're tracking today.
07:59At 11 this morning, Pope Francis marks one year since becoming Pope with a visit to the
08:04Basilica of St. Francis of Paola, where he'll address religious leaders and local officials.
08:09At noon, President Trump delivers remarks from the Rose Garden at the White House.
08:13At one Costa Rica swears in President-elect Laura Fernandez.
08:17Delegations from more than 70 countries and nearly 20 international organizations are expected
