Transcript
00:00He took his pants down, penetrated me, had sex with me.
00:05He then stopped before ejaculation.
00:08That's British MP Rupert Lowy reading survivor testimonies linked to the UK's grooming gang scandal.
00:13This scandal, which has haunted Britain for decades, is back in the spotlight
00:17after victims' accounts were read out in Parliament,
00:19triggering fresh outrage and renewed calls for accountability.
00:22Firstly, I would like to thank the 260,974 British men and women
00:30who signed the petition to make this debate possible.
00:34On 1st June, Rupert Lowy presented testimonies describing years of abuse, neglect and institutional failure.
00:40He picked up the bottle of Jack Daniels, which was now empty, and he forced it up inside me.
00:46He broke the glass while he was there.
00:49At that point, I was about 12, nearly 13.
00:54So why is Britain talking about this again?
00:57In the UK, the term grooming gangs is commonly used to describe cases in which vulnerable children
01:01and teenagers were manipulated, trafficked, intimidated, drugged or abused by multiple offenders over long periods.
01:08The scandal first emerged publicly in the early 2000s.
01:11In 2010, five men were convicted from Rotherham for sexual offenses against girls as young as 12.
01:17Similar cases later surfaced in dozens of towns across the UK.
01:21In 2025, Lowy headed a private investigation that detected gang-based children's sexual exploitation
01:27in at least 85 areas across the UK.
01:30His probe found that rape gangs, mostly comprising of Pakistani heritage,
01:34have been operating for decades and far more widespread than thought.
01:38The same findings were also found in 2010 when the Home Secretary told Parliament that local data
01:43examined by the KC audit found clear evidence of over-representation among suspects of Asian
01:48and Pakistani heritage men in three police force areas.
01:52Badrace KC's review examined local-level data from Greater Manchester, West Yorkshire and South
01:57Yorkshire regions that have featured prominently in grooming and investigations.
02:01In 2025, seven men in Voktel received prison sentences totalling 174 years for grooming offences.
02:08This same year, Pakistani-born Mohamed Zahid, described by prosecutors as a gang ringleader,
02:13was jailed for 35 years for raping two schoolgirls.
02:16Now, the political fallout is growing.
02:19The Labour Party and Starmer are facing renewed scrutiny over how authorities responded to grooming
02:24gang allegations over the years.
02:25Long.
