Mumbai, Maharashtra: Actress Kishori Shahane spoke to IANS about her role in the TV show 'Sairaab', saying she was drawn to its layered character set against a Bengali backdrop. She shared that although her character appears strict, it has deep emotional complexity rooted in family conflict, making it creatively rewarding. She noted that grey roles offer more freedom for actors and spoke about how OTT competition has made TV storytelling faster-paced. She also highlighted long working hours and payment delays in the TV industry, stressing the need for financial planning. Kishori Shahane added that good storytelling works across languages and platforms and said she chooses projects based on strong characters and teams. She concluded by inviting viewers to watch 'Sairaab', calling it a family entertainer for all ages.

00:00First of all, welcome to INS.
00:02And first of all, tell us about this show.
00:08Yes.
00:09Sarah, this show is on a back drop.
00:14And I tried to give justice for that character.
00:23So, this is the challenge of a Bengali backdrop.
00:27And my character is very layered.
00:36In the first episode, this is a very strict story.
00:41But his backstory is that I had to leave my daughter at home.
00:48And that's why I have a post.
00:51So, that's the reason that there is a result in the relationship.
00:56But yeah, that was a good challenge that it was a layered character.
01:00As you said, layered character can be a negative shape.
01:04Negative character can be a grey character.
01:06So, how do you enjoy the grey character doing this show?
01:11Actually, grey character, negative character,
01:13Because she has a lot of performance.
01:17And that also has the benefit of her, because she is also laughing.
01:21To laugh, she doesn't have the chance of negative character acting.
01:24But for negative characters, it has a variety of characters.
01:26That's why they can do everything.
01:28It's also a comedy.
01:29It's also a dramatic, melodramatic.
01:32So this is a variety of shows that we don't live so long-lasting.
01:41What do you think about this show?
01:46What do you think about this show?
01:48Actually, what do you think about this show in 2-3 months?
01:51What do you think about this show?
01:52Because it's not TRP.
01:54But the reason for TRP is that we have a lot of competition.
01:58There are so many OTTs, so many YouTube channels, so many entertainment platforms have increased.
02:05So, it's difficult to survive TV.
02:08But definitely, if you have a good story, a good content,
02:12then definitely people will see that in this year, 2-3 years, shows are coming.
02:16So, it's not even 14 or 12 years.
02:18But I think that is a good contest.
02:19My home has been given to someone's love as well.
02:21It's been about 5 years.
02:22So, people were looking for 2-3 years.
02:26And now, the show is still the best way of getting fresh ideas.
02:29What is good?
02:30Ma'am, if you're looking for someone's love,
02:33if you've ever seen a trip,
02:35then what are the changes you've seen in TV industry?
02:37Have your story developed?
02:38Or do you have to try as an actor
02:39or try to evolve it in your way?
02:43As an actor,
02:45I was surprised that there were long scenes,
02:49the lens was bigger and more.
02:52But in fast speed and digital media,
02:55there were more crisp scenes.
02:58Fast scenes, short scenes.
03:00So, in performance-wise,
03:03when we were doing one or two scenes,
03:06we would do 18 scenes.
03:08And I feel like a flavor comes.
03:11The performance-wise,
03:12the audience also changes.
03:15The TV show has a drawback
03:18that we see that we have long working hours
03:20and we have personal life timing.
03:22And there are delay payment issues.
03:24So, what do you say about that?
03:25How much of a scale did you say about that?
03:31Now, it's a daily show.
03:33It's been 30 days telecast.
03:34I've been working on it once a week.
03:39Then, it was about 5 days a week.
03:42Now, it's 7 days a week.
03:44So, naturally, working hours will not be big.
03:47And if you want to work, you have to work.
03:49And if you want to work, you have to work.
03:53So, you have to keep hard working.
03:55Serial actors have to work very hard on your audience.
04:02And definitely, 12 hours a day only, I feel like it's been to work.
04:18I think it's like a, it's a vicious circle, it's a vicious circle, it's a vicious circle.
04:45And definitely, yes, you have to face problems, but production houses, at least prompt payment,
04:51and then you have to start with the first payment, but rolling, it's like, if I have worked with the
04:58manager,
04:59then you have to take daily payments, monthly payments, and today's time is about three months,
05:07It is getting crucial, but everyone has to face, I think, in all fields, all corporates,
05:15or in any field, you have to face and you have to plan your budgets.
05:22In the last episode, we talked about regional TV shows, and some of the content is better.
05:32I think that some of the indie shows that there is no good content,
05:37there is a drag show, there is a story line.
05:41Some shows are repetitive, but definitely every show is bad,
05:47and every show is good.
05:50It depends on the content that we create and reach people.
05:57It is good to watch, but it does not count.
06:01In the last episode, you asked how many OTT weeks are open?
06:08Do you feel your transition between TV and OTT?
06:14Thank you very much.
06:15It was a very modest show.
06:16I've also done a theatre.
06:18I've also done a lot of series and films.
06:21I've also done a lot of series with OTT.
06:24I've also done a series with OTT.
06:25So, I like working on multiple platforms.
06:29And the work that is available for Nate,
06:31which is available for Nate,
06:34which is a project.
06:34If my character is good, production is good,
06:37then the project is good.
06:39Lastly, I want to say,
06:41what do you want to give a message to the fans?
06:44I want to say that Sahara,
06:46for today's generation,
06:48and a plus,
06:50which is our first generation.
06:53In fact, for all generations,
06:55there is a great entertaining show.
06:57You need to watch it.
06:58At 7.30 is a very nice time.
07:00So, everyone will reach home.
07:02You need to watch it daily.
07:03So, you need to watch it daily.
