Helping people to better understand ERW Extremism, this video is one using the words of people who have been involved in the ERW, former activists and animated using an AI Avatar character.

Highlighting how former extremists feel, we have created a number of videos which show how people can engage and support people involved in extremism.

00:24Hi, I get it.
00:25As someone who has also been involved in the far right, I understand why you are involved today.
00:32Once, I was totally committed to the cause.
00:35I would have done anything for it, even given my life or gone to prison.
00:40I believed, as many do, that I was a soldier, fighting a war and nothing else mattered.
00:46I was active for years and did many things, which today, I am not proud of.
00:52Looking at why people get involved, there are many issues in the world, but will being involved in the far
00:58right make things better, or will it make things worse?
01:02This is a question I didn't ask until the end, and I wish someone would have asked me earlier.
01:09Being involved, I have to admit, was exciting.
01:12I found belonging.
01:14A place to air my views, and ultimately, a place I felt was home.
01:19But being involved, also impacted so many other areas of my life.
01:23It limited where I could go in my own city, and even what I could do.
01:28This was either because I felt it was wrong to go to places, or I believed then, that the cause
01:34needs money, and I used to feel guilty about spending money.
01:39I had earned on myself and people I cared about.
01:42Thinking back, it was hard.
01:45I was totally committed, as you probably are now, but I was wrong.
01:50I should have listened to my doubts, like where does all the money go, that I and many others gave?
01:56Is racism really patriotic, and are the people I call friends, really my friends, or will they drop me like
02:03others if things get tough?
02:06I knew in my heart, that the far right wasn't right.
02:09I knew racism was wrong, but I stayed, because I felt it was right.
02:15But today I know I was wrong, and that real patriotism is based on place, not race.
02:21I know labels are wrong, and that you should never judge someone, because you never know what they person is
02:27going through.
02:28Today, I look after myself, my family, and people I care about.
02:32The extreme right wing doesn't care.
02:35People involved are just a number, and for many, the cause is above all.
02:39But is that right?
02:41Ask yourself this.
02:43Have you by being involved ever stopped anyone getting into the country?
02:48Have you stopped anyone getting abused?
02:50The answer from most is no.
02:53So why be involved?
02:55You are giving your time and your money to a cause that doesn't care about you,
02:59that takes you away from your interests and your family.
03:02It damages your chances of a good job, and even puts you and your family at risk.
03:07So why be involved?
03:10Unless you are in the inner circle, you are not valued.
03:13But there is always hope.
03:15People can change, and you deserve a better than that.
03:18Don't put yourself or others in danger.
03:21Use your skills to make things better for yourself, your family, and the community you live in.
03:28Love where you live.
03:30Do something positive.
03:32Real patriotism is based on place, not race, and there are lots of patriotic things you can do,
03:38without being involved in a far-right extremist group.
03:41You can celebrate St George's Day, support ex-servicemen,
03:46help preserve war memorials, or get into nature and relax.
03:50From walking to camping, there is a lot you can enjoy, and not put yourself at risk.
