00:04I think it important that we address the impact that extremism has on the husbands, wives and
00:10partners, of mothers, of a child, children, involved in the extreme right wing and how it
00:16can affect you and your relationship. As a family support officer for over four years,
00:22I often deal with families who have a child or young adult that has been radicalized into the
00:27extreme right wing. It is primarily mothers that reach out for support and fathers, wives and
00:33partners stay in the background, often having the information relayed back to them and sadly
00:37missing out on the support they need and deserve. This can be for a variety of reasons. It can be
00:43that they mistakenly believe that support is only available for the biological parents.
00:48Or it could be that they believe that contacting a support organization might get the child into
00:54trouble, or that they do not have the authority and would be overstepping the mark if they did.
00:59The reality is that many husbands, wives and partners have actually reported feelings of
01:04frustration, hopelessness and despair, and said that they felt alone and unsupported during that
01:11period. Many reported that this affected their mental and emotional well-being and also caused
01:17damage to their relationships. They expressed how they felt uncertain of how they could support their
01:23loved ones or how to help the child that was involved and that contributed to the emotional
01:28damage that a lot of them sustained. We are aware that relationships can become strained and break
01:34down due to the physical and mental toll from the persistent challenges from the individual involved
01:40and because of the limitations that many stepparents and partners face. In order to prevent this,
01:47we need to recognize it. Exit Family Support is available for mums, dads, stepparents, partners and other
