Designed by interior architect Katanyoo Angwatanapanich for his friend, a gemologist with a love for hiking and travel, this 32sqm/344sqft Bangkok condo blends a bold Wes Anderson–inspired colour palette, Japanese minimalism, and clever storage solutions. A raised oak platform defines the bedroom, creating a cosy, cabin-like retreat with hidden drawers below. Inspired by the Japanese tsukimi-dai, a large striking circular shelf showcases the owner's mineral collection. Throughout the home, thoughtful touches—from ceiling-height cabinets and glass panels to pegboards, a sliding kitchen door, and a sink cover—ensure the space remains flexible, organised, and easy to maintain.

00:03Inspiration came from the owner's love of Wes Anderson's movie,
00:07in particular the composition and color palette.
00:13She wanted to blend it with the simplicity of Japanese interior.
00:20The design idea was to make the owner feel like she living in her own cozy refuge,
00:25a place where her hands rest and escape from the eos of the big city.
00:31Once she stepped into the room, all the noise fades away to be in her own world.
00:40I'm Katanyu, and I designed this apartment for my friend.
00:55This condominium is located on Sirom Road in Bangkok.
01:01Sirom Road is the business financial district surrounded by many interesting places for travelers.
01:09The building was completed in 2019. It's a large building with 48 floors.
01:16The owner is a chemologist. She enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking and trekking.
01:25So the condo needs to have a lot of storage for her equipment and also space for cooking.
01:33During the renovation, the owner showed me her mineral collection which she had in a box.
01:40So she really gets to see them. I thought it was a Sam to have such beautiful objects hidden away.
01:47So I created a circle shelf that was inspired by the Japanese Tsutsukimida.
01:56The original layout had a sliding door separating the bedroom and the living room.
02:02What's interesting is that the bathroom was in the middle of the condo with a corridor surrounding it.
02:08This created many awkward days and was difficult to furnish.
02:14The first thing I did was remove the old sliding doors that divided the living room and bedroom.
02:20A platform was added in the bedroom area to help zone the open space.
02:26I added a sliding door between kitchen and living room.
02:30The laundry was placed inside a new pantry since there was already a water supply there.
02:37In the corridors, we're adding a dressing table and storage and a large wardrobe.
02:46When you step into the condo, it opens into a small entryway and kitchenette.
02:52As the entrance is quite small, I add a pastel purple cabinet in the kitchen to be used as a
02:58bench for shoes and place to put keys.
03:02The color of this cabinet adds a bright and fun feeling to the space.
03:07On the wall, I used a painting technique to create a rough baby texture.
03:14A small rounded shelf for always was added as a feature.
03:24I wanted to keep the kitchen as original as possible and only modify the certain parts.
03:32We covered the back splash with an oak laminate, which makes the kitchen feel soft and warm, while also being
03:39waterproof.
03:41The space above the sink was opened up and changed into a dish lamp.
03:45It also visually opened up the space so it feels more spacious when using the sink.
03:52I added lights above for better visibility when cooking.
04:00On the wall next to the kitchen, I added a pegboard, so the owner can hang her apron and the
04:09kitchen equipment.
04:12I added some vent drawers for dry items.
04:16This was something the owner had requested.
04:21To maximize counter space, there is a cover that goes on top of the sink.
04:29It's nice to have some extra room when preparing meals.
04:35The condo has space and plumping for a washing machine under the electric stove.
04:41But the owner didn't want to see the machine, so I created a new storage space next to the kitchen
04:47for the washing machine.
04:49It also has storage above for laundry product and a basket.
04:58We added a sliding door in the kitchen to prevent cooking smells from spreading into the living room and sleeping
05:06area.
05:09The living area was designed as a multi-functional space that can be used as a dining area, exercise area,
05:17and entertainment area.
05:20The custom table and wooden chairs are lightweight and can be folded up and stored away in this own storage
05:28when small space is needed.
05:31This narrow storage also has space for owner Wi-Fi router.
05:36A gap above the door was left to improve the signal.
05:42From the living area, there is access to a small balcony with great view of Bangkok.
05:52I created a circle shelf that was inspired by the Japanese Tsutsukimida or Moon Gate.
05:59The symbolic meaning reflects the Japanese way of thinking, which see beauty and depth in the simple things around us.
06:07The owner is able to swap out the gems and display them how she likes.
06:15The bedroom was designed to feel like you are sleeping in a wooden cabin.
06:22It feels like you are in a Japanese ryokan.
06:26We raised the space by about 20 cm.
06:31This platform helps to zone the space without using the room dividers.
06:37Using some space under the platform, I add hidden drawers for storing exercise equipment and other household items.
06:47The low bed around the room to feel more spacious and it also double air splash so far during the
06:53day.
06:53Along the windows and the back wall, we continue the platform to create a straight head.
07:00It tapers to the corridor to create a transition throughout this space.
07:10I added integrated storage along the walls for the owner's clothes and for storing household items like mock and vacuum
07:20cleaners.
07:22For the hiking and travel gear, I utilize the ceiling height and add a cabinet above.
07:29It's used to store less commonly used items such as her carry-on suitcase.
07:35The integrated storage also features a dressing table with a miller and light.
07:42There is also space underneath to store the stool.
07:46Pegboard are great because they can be configured and reconfigured to suit units.
07:54Around the other side of the corridor, I added a large wardrobe.
08:00It has sliding door with glass panel, so it doesn't feel heavy in this narrow space.
08:11The bathroom is compact but has everything you need.
08:15I changed the back splash to the same wood as the kitchen and applied the same texture to the wall.
08:21I feel like these small chains really help to tie the whole condo together.
08:27I added a circle miller with a backlight with also double-edged storage.
08:33When designing a small space, it is important to consider how to store things so that they look neat and
08:41organized.
08:42It's also important that they are accessible and easy to clean.
08:47Furniture should have more than one purpose so that the space can be adjusted for different activities rather than have
08:56a fixed use gauge.
09:21Furniture should have more than one purpose so that the structures can be adjusted to the same code in place
09:22as well.
