00:00The other major takeaway that I had was you have two key players and key spots here getting tossed for
00:07celebrations on homers.
00:09Now, I go both ways with this, because one was Landon Harrison for Arizona State, who was the best player
00:16in college baseball this year.
00:17I think if you look at a lot of statistics, pretty much anything offensively, I mean, it was one of
00:21the best seasons, if not the best we've seen, especially in the BB Corps era.
00:25He flips his bat up in the air after striking out and he gets tossed.
00:29Arizona State wins that game. They needed to win the next one. They end up losing by one run in
00:33extras.
00:34I imagine Landon Harrison could have been the difference there.
00:36And then you had a player by the name of Phelps for NC State.
00:40I think Trey Phelps that ends up getting ejected as well after hitting a home run.
00:46And again, big player, big spot there, ends up getting tossed.
00:50I don't know how to feel about it because both instances, like I can hear both sides.
00:55Ultimately, I'm very anti-tossing a player in a situation like that.
01:00But also, like, don't these players know that they are liable to be tossed?
01:04And in such a big situation, I know you want to get, like, you can't control the emotions.
01:09You're feeling really excited, but I don't know.
01:11I don't know how to feel about it.
01:13I kind of want to just tee it up because I think the obvious answer is, oh, the ump show.
01:17Like, don't toss these guys.
01:17And I agree with that.
01:19However, like, both were kind of at a spot where it was like, you're really pushing it.
01:24And you're kind of forcing an umpire in college baseball to do something.
01:27Because if they don't, they end up hearing about it a little bit from the NCAA as well.
01:31Yeah, I mean, I think you have to understand what you are doing.
01:35And there is no invincibility in the regionals or in the super regionals or even in Omaha.
01:39And we saw this a couple of years ago with Drew Gilbert, right?
01:41Tennessee had one of the best college baseball teams that we've ever seen.
01:45And Drew Gilbert, a first-round pick on that team, was tossed for arguing a called strike three.
01:51And Tennessee ends up losing the Supers to Notre Dame.
01:55Like, it was a spot where you cannot get tossed if you're one of the best players on the best
01:59team in America.
02:00And, like, I don't know.
02:01I guess we're just running into that issue a couple more times in college baseball where it's this hybrid of
02:07guys thinking that they could be invincible
02:09because it's such an emotionally charged weekend, you know, regional weekend.
02:15But it's also, like, umpires have a job to do.
02:18Now, are they pushing it into sometimes umpires overstep?
02:21Yeah, absolutely.
02:22But at the end of the day, like, there's two sides to this coin at all times.
02:28So, I don't know.
02:29Like, I'm not going to sit here and say this is an indictment on the kids or this is an
02:33indictment on the fabric of umpiring in college baseball.
02:36Like, why can't it just be both?
02:38A hundred percent.
02:39It was Trey Phelps is from Georgia.
02:41Wrong red team for me there.
02:42I apologize on that front and tops.
02:44It was a huge homer.
02:45And I think kind of looking over towards the Liberty dugout, I've seen a lot of people saying in the
02:50war of fans,
02:51and I think his family above the dugout, that he was maybe celebrating with them.
02:54But at the same time, like, guys, you know, in the field for Liberty were, like, throwing their hands up,
02:58like, what the heck, man, at Phelps.
02:59And he was kind of doubling down against them.
03:01I don't think players should get tossed in this spot because in the major leagues, you're not getting tossed.
03:05And these are, you know, high stakes games and the NIL era, like, I think it is interesting to potentially
03:10toss these guys.
03:11But I don't know what my position is at the end of the day now because I just feel like
03:16this can't be happening.
03:17We can't be having guys get tossed when the stakes are this high and the games are this good.
03:22But at the same time, like, there is this kind of gray area where it continues to happen.
03:28Sometimes players get away with it.
03:30And I think in the last couple instances that we saw here, like, both players kind of pushed it too
03:35far to the point where the umpire kind of had to do something.
03:39How do you police this, though?
03:40Like, did you just not police it at all?
03:42I would be fine with that.
03:44I don't really care.
03:45But at the same time, like, it's been something in college baseball for a while now in terms of there
03:51has to be some sort of line drawn that clearly is just the rules for NCAA.
03:56I mean, even the NFL has no taunting rules.
03:58I think the biggest issue is you shouldn't be suspended for the next game.
04:01You can get tossed for that game.
04:02Maybe don't suspend them for the next game.
04:04That's the biggest issue.
04:05And that's what affected Harrison and Arizona State.
04:07And that's what, you know, I think could affect, you know, Phelps a little bit too in Georgia.
