00:01Protest erupted in Kenya over plans for a U.S.-funded Ebola quarantine facility with
00:06riot groups reporting one person killed during demonstrations near Laikipa airbase.
00:10On Tuesday, protesters delivered a petition to the Ministry of Health demanding the project
00:16to be scrapped.
00:18Today we went to the AFI house, the Ministry of Health, to present a petition informing
00:27them that they should decline the request by the American government to allow them to
00:32set a quarantine facility in this country.
00:35The U.S. says the facility will boost Kenya's Ebola preparedness and be run by American medical
00:41staff, but critics argue Kenya lacks the capacity to safely host the center.
00:45I'm very much against the facility because one thing, if the U.S. are genuine about helping
00:51the case of Ebola, they will take the facility to U.S. because they have the technology,
00:56you can know how, they have the manpower, they have the resources to do that, to contain
01:01that Ebola in their country.
01:03But Kenya is a weak economy and it's a poor state, you see, so we don't have the capacity
01:10to do that.
01:11So bringing that here is exposing the lies of Kenyans.
01:14President Ruto has defended the project as part of Kenya's preparedness strategy.
01:20Meanwhile, Kenya's High Court has extended a temporary hold on the center and ordered the
01:25government to disclose agreements related to the project within seven days.
