00:00Um, but the upshot was I was in my truck at one 20 when, uh, the miles Garrett thing broke
00:06yesterday.
00:06So you two were the ones who shared that news with me first.
00:09And I, I, yeah, that's, that's who you want to get that news from.
00:12You want to hear it.
00:12I want to get it somewhere.
00:13Well, from us, I think that's where you want to get it.
00:15Um, I do think, and I don't mean this to, you know, I'm not trying to suck up or anything.
00:20It is, I'll be honest with you.
00:22Of all the people that we work with, you seem like about the best fit to be on a jury
00:28because you're a reasonable guy.
00:30Like there are people that work here that I don't know that I would want on my jury
00:34if I was facing serious jail time.
00:37Yeah.
00:38If I were in real trouble, like really bad trouble, I don't know if I'd want to put that
00:43life or death decision in the hands of Mike Bell.
00:47And I like Mike.
00:48I do too.
00:48But Mike's like impulsive.
00:50And, uh, you know, sometimes, uh, says things before it's like fully thought out.
00:56Not always, but sometimes, um, you know, having,
00:59having Bo Morgan on a jury, that would be very frightening, you know?
01:05So if you live in Bowes County, just keep that in mind.
01:07Don't be committing crimes.
01:09Or don't put yourself in a position where Bo Morgan has to make a life or death decision
01:13on you because Bo, kind of like Mike, a little bit impulsive at times.
01:18I think, you know, Abe, son of a judge, I'd be okay with that.
01:21Well, I'll tell you where I'd be good for one side versus the other.
01:25Uh, I think the, the defendant would prefer me to have as a juror because I am very strongly
01:33as letter of law, innocent until proven guilty.
01:36Yeah.
01:36And I think so many people have, have, they just make their snap judgments and nothing
01:41can change their mind.
01:43Oh, no, no, no, no.
01:44I've watched some movies, watched some TV shows.
01:46You better, you better come with something.
01:47All right.
01:48The problem with me was like, it was going to be a long trial, but I'm thinking in the
01:53back of my head, okay, world cup doesn't start until late next week.
01:57Yeah.
01:57Uh, you know, everyone's kind of got it here at the radio station.
02:01I can check in when needed, but like, if I'm going to get a trial like this, now is the
02:06time to get it.
02:07So I was very open-minded towards serving on this jury.
02:10There was another guy who we all know here at the radio station who was also in the jury
02:15pool.
02:15And I think he was much less enthusiastic about having to spend a couple of weeks on
02:20this trial.
02:21I was like, okay, let's do it.
02:22You know, uh, they pay you 25 bucks a day, you know, in Decatur, it was DeKalb County.
02:27Like that's, there's some really good restaurants on the square there.
02:30I could have a nice lunch every day.
02:31Get an appetizer.
02:32Almost almost.
02:33Yeah.
02:33Yeah.
02:34But, uh, well, we're glad that you're here.
02:35I'm glad I'm here too.
02:37And, uh, thank you very much for, uh, um, breaking the miles Garrett news to me.
02:41Well, let's just start there.
02:42I mean, let's just start with that reaction.
02:43I mean, I want to get into a couple of different, like apply the playoffs to the
02:47Hawks stuff and some world cup stuff, but let's just start there since we
02:50mentioned it.
02:50Um, I mean, that's a huge trade.
02:53It's for my money.
02:54One of the biggest trades that I can remember in my NFL fanhood happening in
02:59the middle of someone's prime like this.
03:01What was your reaction to the trade?
03:03My initial reaction was how are the Rams able to keep doing things like this?
03:07You know, like, and I'm not making this like a Falcons issue just in general.
03:12I think there are a lot of teams in the NFL that just are, you know, it's kind of
03:19like a once in a lifetime type of swing to be able to do that.
03:22And it feels like the Rams are able to pull this off much more frequently than most, if
03:29not every other team in the NFL.
03:31Certainly twice in the last five years.
03:32Absolutely.
03:33Like, yeah, right.
03:34So like, wow, how are they able to keep doing this?
03:37Um, but now I think it puts everything they did with Ty Simpson in context.
03:43You know, it makes me wonder if this was pending, uh, around the time of the draft where they
03:49knew that this was going to happen.
03:51By reports, it is.
03:52Okay.
03:52So now it all makes sense.
03:54It really does close the loop and it is a perfectly defensible strategy.
03:59If it pays off and you're a contending team.
04:02Uh, and when I say contending, I mean, NFC championship level or higher NFC championship
04:07game level or higher.
04:08Uh, you can get away with making swings like this and forgoing your drafts.
04:12If you are able to maintain that level of competitiveness.
04:16And, and I think the Rams are going to be able to, I think the Browns got a pretty good
04:22return to be totally honest.
04:24Everyone's saying, oh, the Browns should have gotten more.
04:26Uh, I thought they did pretty well.
04:28You know, they got Jared Burst.
04:30They got a couple of picks, uh, including, I think what a first round pick.
04:34Yeah.
04:34So in theory, that picks probably 31 or 32.
04:37It's still a first round pick.
04:39They got 27 first rounder, 28 second rounder, 29 third round.
04:42Yeah.
04:43You can get nice player.
04:45You can get three very nice players and an established veteran in verse that that's
04:49an okay trade-off.
04:50Um, and look, the Browns are in a different spot than the Rams right now where they can
04:55reload a little bit.
04:56I think their fans will give them the grace of not expecting them to be in the Superbowl
05:01this year because you know, the Browns have never been in the Superbowl.
05:05Um, so it's not even a reset.
05:08It's just kind of a reload for them.
05:09I thought it was a perfectly fair trade.
05:11And look, I looked at it as, and I know Jared verse is not miles Garrett.
05:15We all understand that, but you, you took a chance to get four years younger, three years
05:20younger on defense for a team.
05:22That's not, not there right now.
05:24Yeah.
05:25I'd be there for a while, but, but that's all right.
05:27I don't know if they'll be there for a while because in the NFL, it's hard to be there
05:30for a while.
05:31You have to have a lot of things go wrong to be there for a while.
05:35The New York Jets can attest to that.
05:37They've, they've been there.
05:38I mean, I know, I know Stefanski had the playoffs and you know, they, they've kind of been there
05:42for like 35 years.
05:44Yeah, but it's a pretty, it's Cleveland.
05:45Pretty, pretty clear statement.
05:46I mean, in June to a fan base from the Rams and be like, yep, we're going all in.
05:51We were in the NFC championship game last year.
05:52We thought we were this and that away from it.
05:54They also got the corner from Kansas City, McDuffie earlier this off season too.
05:59So like, well, and that's another example, like how are they able to do all this?
06:03They extended him.
06:04They made them a highest paid corner.
06:05It's almost one of those things where like we get to the point with certain general managers
06:09and I think I'm there with Howie Roseman, but the Patriots did it yesterday.
06:13I'm certainly there with Sam Presti in the NBA.
06:16It's like, if they call, I'm hanging up.
06:18Like I'm not.
06:19Because you're about to get robbed.
06:20Yeah, I'm about to get robbed.
06:21They're about to get my best guy and I'm not going to get anything of value in return
06:26and I don't want to do that.
06:28But yeah, they've been able to continue to do it for sure.
06:32The Browns are also just saying to their fans, like, buckle up, this year's about to suck.
06:36They probably already knew that.
06:37Okay.
06:38Like if you look at the draft that's coming up and the quarterback class that's coming up,
06:42okay, yeah, you know, that's fine.
06:44If they get it right.
06:45If you get it.
06:46That's part of the lack of trust there in Cleveland.
06:51You mentioned guys that call you and maybe you don't want to take that call.
06:55To some extent, Ansi Saleh is starting to climb that ladder.
06:58He also gets a promotion.
06:59What did you view in terms of what that meant for him, the extension and the promotion?
07:03Yeah.
07:04What might it mean for Quinn Snyder too?
07:05I don't think it changes anything for Quinn Snyder.
07:07I don't really think it changes anything for Ansi as far as what his, like, day-to-day duties are.
07:12I think it's just a reward for a job very well done and a commitment and nothing really beyond that.
07:19I don't see it as anything more than just this is someone we're committing to because he's done a great
07:26job.
07:26We want to keep him.
07:27We want to give him a title that might be a little more aligned with what he's actually doing.
07:32But I don't think it takes Quinn Snyder in any way out of the loop of decision-making.
07:37I think Quinn's still a huge, huge part of that.
07:40It's a well-deserved, I guess, raise, for lack of better terms.
07:45A well-deserved raise for Ansi Saleh.
07:47He's done a great job.
07:47You get some new business cards.
07:48Yeah.
07:48You get to update your LinkedIn, and you probably make a significant amount more money.
07:52He's probably able to drive a different type of automobile now.
07:57You know?
07:58Yeah.
07:58His vacations might get a little better now.
08:00Parking spot's a little closer to the front door.
08:02Yeah, but see, honestly, I don't know because I think it was parking right at the front door anyway.
08:06I don't think his parking spot improves as a result.
