00:00And it's back to Sean and RJ right here on 105.3 The Fan.
00:03It is the expressway right now on The Fan, and it's brought to you by the On Time Experts.
00:08Good morning, Metroplex.
00:10Sean and RJ here on 105.3 The Fan.
00:12I'm Bobby Belt.
00:13He's RJ Choppy.
00:14We got Peyton Russell behind the glass.
00:16Sean Sharif is out sick today.
00:18Probably one more day, I would guess, but who knows?
00:20We'll see.
00:22Oh, you know that he's back tomorrow?
00:23I mean, I assume he will be.
00:25I just don't know.
00:26So 24 hours after antibiotics, you're no longer contagious.
00:29So he should be fine tomorrow in terms of contagiousness.
00:31But if he just doesn't feel well, then, you know, he won't be able to go.
00:35Man, the stuff he was sending in the group text yesterday about his urgent care experience.
00:39I don't want to spoil any of it because he'll be able to break it down himself.
00:43And the Sophie's Choice he was presented with that he had to make a decision on.
00:50Right.
00:50He was tested on his morality.
00:52But, Sean, hopefully back tomorrow.
00:54We're holding things down for now.
00:56Now, it's Tuesday, so we're doing Ask Reddit here in about 20 minutes.
01:00We're about to get into some discussion about the big trades that happened in the NFL yesterday
01:04and if it shifts the power dynamic in the NFC at all and what it does to Dallas is standing
01:09in there.
01:10But we've also got two Shaboozy ticket giveaways today, Chop.
01:14One in this hour.
01:15One in the 9 o'clock hour.
01:16We might as well just give one away now.
01:18Let's do it.
01:22All right, Tolos, that's right right now.
01:24Call on number 10 at 877-881-1053.
01:27We'll have a pair of tickets to see Shaboozy at the Southside Ballroom in Dallas on Saturday, September 12th.
01:33That's call on number 10 at 877-881-1053.
01:36Good luck in trying to win those Shaboozy tickets.
01:39If you do not win them, you will get another chance here at 9 o'clock.
01:43All right, so yesterday, we talked about this about an hour ago, there was the rapid development of Miles Garrett
01:52being traded to the Rams.
01:54There was the slowest trade development in the history of the NFL and A.J. Brown getting traded.
02:00Something a little poetic about the fastest trade I've ever seen come together from buzz to trade to the slowest
02:06trade that any of us have ever seen come together with the A.J. Brown deal.
02:10But they both get done yesterday, and this obviously, you would think, changes Dallas' context within the NFC.
02:19Dallas, to this point, has had a very strong offseason in terms of they nailed the draft, and then you
02:27felt like they got better in other areas with free agency.
02:30Maybe didn't get any of these big-time stud players you like, but generally, I think everybody felt positive about
02:36what they did in free agency.
02:37Like, yeah, they got better.
02:39Even if I don't think they signed a bunch of studs, they got better in free agency.
02:42And they did have a draft that everybody liked, and they added a defensive coordinator and a defensive staff that
02:48a lot of people seem to be excited about.
02:49So Dallas right now has, we've talked about this, a lot of buzz growing with them and a lot of
02:56chatter about them.
02:57More momentum probably in the offseason than they've had in a few years.
03:02But you then see big moves being made yesterday.
03:06One was Philly kind of cleansing themselves of A.J. Brown, and then the other one was the Rams going
03:12and trading Jared Verse and three draft picks for Miles Garrett.
03:17So this does what exactly?
03:22Let's start with, we'll start with these two teams specifically, then we'll look in the broader context.
03:25But what does this do specifically to the L.A. Rams, do you think?
03:29Well, I mean, I think they were already the favorites to win the title.
03:32Over Seattle?
03:34I mean, I think Vegas had put them and Seattle right there at 1-1A.
03:39Every offseason list we've seen has basically been Seahawks and Rams or 1-2.
03:43And I just trust Matt Stafford and Sean McVay more.
03:46Okay.
03:46Even though I know that Seattle just won, I don't think anybody's going to sit here and say they want
03:51Sam Darnold over Matt Stafford.
03:57And, you know, McDonald's a great coach, but I still think people would say they would rather have Sean McVay.
04:03Yeah.
04:04So, you know, I don't think it's crazy.
04:06So from that standpoint, you know, it really hasn't done a ton to the Rams.
04:10I'll tell you this.
04:13So they were minus 2-1-1-2 against the Niners, the Rams.
04:18It moved to minus 3.
04:22Why?
04:26Like, are you surprised it was?
04:28Oh, yeah, no, I was sitting here thinking plus 2-1-1-2 and it moved to 3.
04:31Okay, so they moved to half a point against the 49ers.
04:34So it's a half point.
04:35So basically they're saying that either Miles Garrett is worth a half point more than Jared Verse or Jared Verse
04:42wasn't factoring in the line at all and Miles Garrett is just worth a half point.
04:46How much, how many sacks for his, he's played two years now, he's played every game.
04:51How many sacks do you think Jared Verse has in two years?
04:5513 or 14?
04:5612.
04:57Okay.
04:57And he's got, that's actually one less than former Tennessee great Byron Young had all last year for the Rams.
05:07So he's not, he's a guy who wrecks shop.
05:11He is not, it's not total up to like ridiculous sack numbers the way Miles has though.
05:15Right.
05:15So if they're looking at this as we want more negative plays and we want more takeaways, then I think
05:21it makes sense.
05:22But are the margins big enough going from verse to Garrett, which again, Garrett's definitely better.
05:31Definitely better, but Jared Verse was.
05:32But we are talking about a pro bowl edge rusher that they just traded away.
05:35Who's young.
05:36Yeah.
05:37Is the, is the gap there big enough and where their needs sincere enough that that's, this all of a
05:42sudden just changes.
05:43My gosh, the Rams are a different football team.
05:44I don't think it is.
05:45Now we had some people in the fan text earlier saying they thought that there was one person in particular
05:50who said he had to do a lot in the run with Cleveland that he's not going to have to
05:54do anymore with the Rams.
05:55So it would allow him to pin his ears back and do more rushing.
05:58And so maybe that's the case, but overall I would say, I think this made the Rams slightly better, but
06:09I don't know that as a team, they're like they've gained wins necessarily.
06:13If they, yeah, if they were a, a nine on a, on a one to 10 scale, they're nine, five.
06:21Yeah.
06:22I mean, if you wanted to make it even just decimal scores lower than that, it might be nine to
06:25nine, three or something.
06:26Like I don't, I don't know.
06:27I don't know that it's, it may be enough of a difference if you're talking about the elite of the
06:30elite.
06:31Yeah.
06:31They're definitely better.
06:32There's no doubt.
06:34Miles is a better player.
06:36You are, you are, you are, you are, I mean, literally going all in, all in because there's, you, you
06:45literally, you have nothing.
06:47You have nothing moving forward.
06:49You know, you just traded a young piece.
06:51Now the good news is, is that, you know, if Stafford retires and McVay retires or quits, you could sit
06:58there and just trade Miles Garrett next year and get quite a bit for him and restock.
07:05Someone will trade for him.
07:06Yeah, I'm sure.
07:07So unless he has like just a, such a, a catastrophic fall off, which I don't expect him to have.
07:13Yeah.
07:13I don't expect him to go from the most dominant edge rusher of the last.
07:17Somebody that nobody wants in a year.
07:19I don't expect that, you know, Vegas, they were, they were eight to one to win it all.
07:25As soon as the trade happens, they go to plus five 50 and then immediately gets bet back up.
07:30And it's now plus six and a half plus six 50.
07:33So they go from eight to one to six and a half to one.
07:36So not a, not a huge.
07:38Yeah.
07:39I mean, it's movement again.
07:40I think that's representative of what it is, which is they are better.
07:43I don't think they are significantly better.
07:44Now the Eagles, they make the deal.
07:46They trade away AJ Brown.
07:47They get a first in 2028.
07:48It's not even next year's.
07:50Then they get a fifth rounder in 2027 as well.
07:54And that one, obviously nobody's going to say that the Eagles are necessarily better because AJ Brown's gone.
08:00The biggest argument you could make is they're less toxic, but I think everybody has felt like the toxicity is
08:05coming from the quarterback.
08:06And AJ Brown is just not able to keep quiet about it.
08:09He's not.
08:10I also think that it's not a great fit with Sirianni and him because I don't know.
08:16With Brown?
08:17Well, just with the locker room.
08:20Yeah.
08:21Sirianni, I like, but he is a, he's, he's, he's kindling.
08:28He's, he's, he's lint that you throw on a fire, right?
08:32He's, he's, he's a spark.
08:35You don't want that.
08:36You know, you can't, Nick Sirianni cannot be around a toxic clubhouse because he doesn't handle it.
08:44He just doesn't handle it.
08:46So I think that you got to just remove, you got to remove everything.
08:50And what they're going to have to do is eventually remove the quarterback too.
08:54Yeah, that's, that's what this will ultimately circle back to.
08:57And this is why I wonder if that's why Howie pushed or ended up getting the 2028 first rounder is
09:02he's just saying,
09:03we're trying to get out from under Jalen Hurts' deal and I want the capital once we're out of it.
09:07Cause I want to be able to trade up and move and do the different things that I need to
09:10do.
09:10Howie is really, really good at stacking capital into future years.
09:14He's also good at stacking, you know, dead money into future years and shifting money forward.
09:20And then having situations like the AJ Brown one where they, they have to operate the deal that way and
09:24wait till June 1st.
09:25But Patriots do have a first in 27.
09:29Then either they told him no, or he wanted that one for whatever reason.
09:35And now, now it's just a matter of finding out why would he want 28 or why would the Patriots
09:39have refused to give up 27?
09:41That would be the biggest thing.
09:42Now, Dallas and within this context, we've talked about this.
09:46Dallas is trying to tear open a three-year window.
09:49They're trying to force themselves into a window of contention after they've been bad the last two years.
09:55OTAs started yesterday, by the way.
09:57We had some people asking us, oh, you guys can have reports from OTAs?
09:59No, we're not.
10:00Not till Thursday.
10:01Thursday is when they allow media out there.
10:02But OTAs did begin this week.
10:04But this is the Cowboys trying to rip open a three-year window.
10:06So these moves yesterday, I think it helps Dallas against the Eagles in 2026.
10:14I think it helps Dallas in year three of this attempt to open a window against the Rams.
10:20Because I think three years from now, the Rams are going to be weaker than what they could have been.
10:24Yeah, they are.
10:25I think so.
10:27Now, obviously, they drafted a tie.
10:29So we have no idea what he's going to be like.
10:31But that's exactly...
10:32You cannot assume he will be as good as Stafford has been for now.
10:35I totally agree.
10:38So from that standpoint, yeah.
10:41And then the rest of the NFC, you have no idea what the rest of the NFC is going to
10:44be like.
10:45In two years anyway.
10:49I assume...
10:50Let's see.
10:51Three years.
10:53I'm going to go look at the 2023 NFL standings, and I'm going to see how different it looked.
10:57So the NFC, the standings, the playoff teams in 2023 were Cowboys won the East.
11:02Eagles were a wild card.
11:04Lions won the North.
11:05Packers were a wild card.
11:07Bucks won the South.
11:08And then the West was...
11:09The 49ers won it, and the Rams were a wild card.
11:11That's close to who we've had.
11:13I mean, the Buccaneers are not quite...
11:15But the South is the South for the NFC.
11:17Right.
11:18Detroit's not as good as they were.
11:20San Francisco's not as good as they were three years ago.
11:22Dallas is obviously not as good as they were three years ago.
11:24Now, in three years, will Green Bay...
11:29So the North will probably be Chicago's in three years.
11:34It's probably not going to be Detroit's in three years.
11:36It's pending Caleb.
11:38Yeah.
11:38It's pending Caleb.
11:39And then, I guess, pending what they do around Jordan Love.
11:44Yeah.
11:44Because, I mean, like, when you look at the Packers, they've got...
11:47They obviously invested a lot in Micah Parsons for their future and wanting him to be part
11:53of what they see as a bigger vision that goes beyond just right now.
11:57And Jordan Love is still, I think, somebody who is generally underrated.
12:04I know that he's not been perfect, but I think that he's generally underrated by most people
12:09around the NFL.
12:10And so, it's wild to me.
12:12He's still, like, in an age where everybody makes the Pro Bowl, Jordan Love still does not
12:15have a Pro Bowl, even after doing this for three years.
12:18But, no, I think Packers and Bears will be in contention.
12:21But this is...
12:22I think, in the immediate term, yeah, this is not great for Dallas in terms of the Rams as
12:30a contender.
12:30It makes them more dominant.
12:31It gives them slightly more dominant disposition.
12:37But, overall, I think that you look at those moves yesterday, and I'm not even counting
12:42what the Giants did.
12:43My gosh.
12:44Oh, gosh.
12:44They signed Odell Beckham Jr.
12:46That was huge.
12:47Giants signed three receivers more on that in a second.
12:49But, I think that this does help Dallas, if we're talking about into the future and
12:53you're talking about the Rams, because the Rams are clearly narrowing their window while
12:57Dallas is trying to expand theirs.
12:58And it helps you in the immediate term against Philadelphia.
12:59And Philadelphia remains to be seen what they'll be in three years.
13:02I can't say with certainty this helps Philadelphia in three years.
13:04I don't know if they're going to be.
13:05I mean, I assume they're going to...
13:06If Howie's there, I assume they're going to be a competitive team.
13:09Or they'll be in the midst of a rebuild that's a one-year rebuild where they go to the Super
13:13Bowl in that one-year rebuild.
13:15Which is what seems to be their M.O.
13:16And it's wholly frustrating.
13:19I don't know what the Cowboys are going to be in three years.
13:21I mean...
13:22Oh, the Cowboys are going...
13:23I think the Cowboys are going to definitely be a good football team in three years.
13:29I think in four years, there's no telling.
13:34I think that they're...
13:35I think 2027 will be the best of the three.
13:42Potentially.
13:4328 is the last year.
13:4527 might be the best.
13:46But 26, 27, 28 is where they're trying to compete.
13:49And then I think by 20...
13:50When you get into 2029, Dak Prescott's not here, I don't think.
13:53Dak Prescott's not here.
13:54I don't know if CeeDee Lamb's here.
13:55Probably not.
13:56Like, the core is largely not here.
13:59And you're in the middle of blowing things up, I'd imagine.
14:01That's not Orlovsky.
14:03No, 2029, that's a decade into his career.
14:06Yeah, that's true.
14:07We're talking well into the future.
14:09Yeah, like, L.A. won't be good in three years.
14:13I don't know about San Fran.
14:17I don't know about Detroit.
14:20I feel like Detroit's timeline and ours is the same.
14:22Detroit's paid a lot of guys already, though.
14:24A lot of that core, they've gotten locked in.
14:26It's just they're having to replace some cogs around.
14:30Philly, I don't know.
14:31They're going to have a different quarterback.
14:33Philly's always competitive is the thing.
14:35Like, San Fran will have the same quarterback in three years.
14:37The Cowboys will have the same quarterback in three years.
14:40Detroit, Green Bay, Chicago, Washington.
14:45They'll all have the same quarterback in three years.
14:47I don't know about Seattle.
14:48I don't know about Washington.
14:49Well, that's true.
14:49Washington injuries keep piling up.
14:51And I think Caleb, jury is still out on Caleb.
14:54I think he's...
14:55I mean, I think he's...
14:56He's not in cruise control yet, but it's all right.
14:58I think in three years, Caleb is either one of the highest paid quarterbacks in the NFL
15:03or he's been traded.
15:03He's been traded.
15:04Okay.
15:05The South is a mess.
15:06I don't know.
15:07The South has always been a mess.
15:08So there's like four teams that are going to have the same quarterback that have a good one.
15:13It's San Fran, three years.
15:15San Fran, Green Bay, Cowboys, and Detroit.
15:20And I think the rest of them in the league or in the NFC is up for grabs.
15:24And I think the rest of them in the league or in the league or in the league or in
15:24the league
15:24It's San Fran.
