There's less than two weeks to go until the FIFA World Cup officially kicks off.

In tonight's Tech Talk, we take a look at some of the technology being used in each game.
Transcript
00:02The FIFA World Cup, football's ultimate prize.
00:07A football tournament that has been defined by generations since 1930.
00:12But putting the ball in the back of the net isn't just about skill and ability.
00:18There's now technology monitoring every kick of the game.
00:22And where better to see behind the scenes than FIFA's global headquarters in Zurich?
00:27The man in charge of FIFA's research team is Nicholas Evans.
00:32He's been paying close attention to the one thing every match needs.
00:36The football. Meet the Trionda ball.
00:40So this looks like a simple normal football but what's different?
00:44So it is a normal football but this one has a sensor inside which is placed opposite the valve.
00:49And in the simplest of terms it can tell us what the ball is doing in a 3D space.
00:53At a match there will be between 15 and 20 of these smart balls ready and charged.
00:59With each one lasting six hours if being used in play.
01:04You can even see the faintest of touches here.
01:07Obviously if you bounce the ball you'll see a much bigger touch.
01:10This just gives you an idea of the sensitivity of the ball.
01:13Often at times the images won't be clear enough or will be very difficult to determine whether a player has
01:18touched the balls.
01:19This is very clear.
01:20While most technology being introduced for this summer's tournament is aimed at improving the accuracy of the game.
01:26There is one addition that offers fans the chance to see decision making from another perspective.
01:32The ref cam.
01:34Lightweight, easy to manage.
01:35From the referee's point of view what's involved?
01:38So as you can see it's basically just mounted on a relatively simple construction or can be attached to the
01:44earpiece.
01:44It's often hard as an outsider to judge what's happened and this might just help.
01:48Technology is now allowing us to really immerse ourselves into the game which just wasn't possible technically many years ago.
01:54So if you're not able to travel to the World Cup to support your team.
01:59Hey man, what are you doing?
02:02You're still getting closer to the action on the pitch than ever before.
