00:00The most worrying issue for us is that we are now convinced that journalists on the ground in Ukraine are
00:09targeted.
00:10We are facing a situation of war crimes against journalists and it's very worrying.
00:20You should know that on the ground some journalists decided not to wear anymore press marks, press signals,
00:28because for them it's a way to be protected, not to be targeted mainly by the Russian forces,
00:36because the cases we documented are mainly about journalists targeted by the Russian army.
00:44We have now seven killed journalists in Ukraine and we know that most of these cases,
00:51you know, we have cases of very experienced journalists who've been working in Iraq, in Kabul,
00:58so they know the principles of safety, they know how to protect themselves and they've been killed.
01:06So despite the fact that they were very experienced war correspondents, they've been killed.
01:12So that proves that there is a deliberate decision from the Russian army mainly to target journalists.
01:22And many journalists now are, they have no choice, they should work undercover.
01:27So they remove the press marks from the cars, they remove the press marks from their body armor just to
01:36be safe.
01:37It's a very worrying situation. We believe that the Russian army in this case is not respecting the, you know,
01:46considering with regard with the international law, the international standards,
01:53journalists on the ground are assimilated to civilians. They are not, you know, supposed to be targeted by soldiers.
02:01What we do is to provide some support to our colleagues in Ukraine. We have two member organizations,
02:09two unions of journalists in Ukraine representing 10,000 journalists in Ukraine, you know, local journalists,
02:14I'm talking about the local journalists, not the foreign whites, not the world correspondents, but the Ukrainian journalists.
02:21Most of them are still in the country, you know, very few journalists decided to leave the country because they
02:28want to stay there to cover the war, of course.
02:30And I would say that the main priority is to get personal protection, you know, helmets, bulletproof vests.
02:42So we are sending, we have an agreement with UNESCO to send a hundred of these safety equipments with helmets.
02:51We already sent 10 sets. It may be, it may, it's a few, but at least it will be useful.
03:00There is a problem in Europe to find out these equipment because there is a shortage of these equipments.
03:06For us, it's the best way to provide support to the local journalists. It's to send money and to send
03:13equipment to our member unions,
03:15the two unions of journalists. There is the National Union of Journalists from Ukraine and the Independent Union of Journalists,
03:22which is a smaller organization, but that's the way, you know, for us to provide some support.
03:29Let's check the video.
03:29We're getting built.
03:29We're getting built.
