00:00NBA Draft now just three weeks away.
00:04Yep.
00:0522 days away.
00:06And there's more and more buzz about what the Wizards might do.
00:10I think the fan base is Team AJ.
00:13They want the stud from BYU, AJ DeBonsa.
00:19Some of us in this room are Darren Peterson guys.
00:23I'm intrigued by the Darren Peterson talent too.
00:25Darren Peterson starred at Kansas, missed a bunch of games, took himself out of games.
00:31Missed 11.
00:33Missed 11 games.
00:34That's a bunch.
00:35I know.
00:35That's probably 30% or more of their games.
00:38They missed 11.
00:39Substantial number.
00:40I believe he did make his last nine in a row, and he averaged like 30 minutes a game.
00:46I feel like he figured it out, but we'll see.
00:49That's definitely the knock against him.
00:51So those are the main two players when we discuss what the Wizards will do with the number one pick.
00:57Besides drab, nobody here seems to be a big Cam Boozer guy.
01:02Right.
01:02Cam Boozer, though, was the college basketball player of the year.
01:06Started Duke.
01:07Dad, of course, was an all-star in the NBA.
01:10Today, there's an article on basketballnetwork.com, and it's analytics-driven, but it's saying that the people that are following
01:23analytics, they favor Carlos Boozer.
01:27This is from Draft Express's Jonathan Giveny, who we've had on the show a bunch.
01:31He said, if you talk to the analytics people in NBA front offices, who have a lot of influence these
01:37days, 100% of them have Cam Boozer at number one at the top of their draft model.
01:44He's talked to every single team.
01:46Yes, he has intel from every single team.
01:48It seems like a little bit of hyperbole to me.
01:52This I do know.
01:53He's talked to more than us.
01:55That is 100% true.
01:58Can't confirm.
01:59Listen, I've said all along, I defer to the Wizards.
02:03I trust them.
02:04They're going to make the right pick.
02:06I wouldn't, just watching from afar, I wouldn't pick Cam Boozer, but if they pick him, I trust him.
02:13I believe him.
02:13So according to Giveny, they're looking at an analytics model, and they see Boozer as ultra-productive from high school
02:23to FIBA competitions to college.
02:27So when he's played in international games, and look, arguably the best player in the world right now is Wemby,
02:35international player.
02:37Cam averaged 19 points and 10 rebounds in 13 international games, both of which led the U.S. to gold
02:44medals.
02:45Does that mean anything to you, Cakes, the international games?
02:49I mean, it's a good thing to have on your resume.
02:51I don't think it's the most important thing.
02:54But it's something to consider.
02:56I think what jumps out at me, and it's probably boosting the analytics a lot, is his shooting, especially, like
03:03I see, you know, 39.6% from threes.
03:07Pretty darn impressive.
03:08At that size, makes it pretty versatile.
03:13He just doesn't look as athletically gifted.
03:15Yeah, that's the reason why.
03:16That's the whole thing.
03:16Yeah, for me.
03:17But if you think about some of the best players in the world, Luka, Joker, they're not super athletic.
03:25For sure.
03:26They just know how to play, and they put up great numbers.
03:29I don't think anybody's comparing him to Luka.
03:31I don't think anybody thinks he's going to be the next Joker.
03:34I'm going to be stunned if they pick Cameron Boozer.
03:37I'll be personally stunned if that happens.
03:39I never thought I'd wake up one day and Cakes would be anti-analytics.
03:42Mr. Throw-the-ball-every-play, get running backs out of football.
03:47I'm a big analytics guy.
03:48Love the three-pointer.
03:49I don't know if every single analytics person in the league, in every front office, has Boozer as the number
03:56one overall pick.
03:57I find that hard to believe.
03:58Let me tell you something.
03:59Every night when I go to bed or when I'm doing this rundown, I'm like, that's it.
04:03No more Cam Boozer stories on the rundown.
04:05The Junkies are anti-Boozer.
04:07I'm the only one that's for this.
04:08And yet, every night, there's another article that comes out that says the Wizards are eyeing Boozer for number one.
04:13What do you want me to do?
04:15In three weeks, the Wizards may step to the podium and select him number one overall.
04:19I'll just be stunned if that's the case.
04:22I know you'll be stunned.
04:23I need you to get excited to buy in.
04:26Would you be excited for Cam Boozer if Will Dawkins pulls the trigger and says, I want to go with
04:32consistent?
04:33So what Giveny says is...
04:35That was a terrible adjective.
04:38Looking at the analytics, they believe day one...
04:42I believe...
04:43Day one, he's a 20-10 guy in the NBA.
04:45I believe in Will Dawkins.
04:46If Will Dawkins thinks that Cameron Boozer is his guy, I will be forced to root for Cameron Boozer.
04:53Because he's a wizard.
04:54He's my guy.
04:55You're going to root for whoever they take.
04:57Absolutely.
04:58I'm all in.
04:59Whoever they take.
05:00The only thing I'm convinced of...
05:02The only thing I am convinced of is that they're not sold that it's for sure DeBonta.
05:09And they said it the moment they won the pick.
05:11And yet the fan base is 85-15 DeBonta.
05:16It's the wildest thing.
05:18I mean, that's the whole thing.
05:19Everybody was tanking this year because everybody knew there were several really good prospects.
05:24But I don't think...
05:26I just don't think...
05:27Actually, I kind of want...
05:30There's nothing not to like about DeBonta, by the way.
05:32He's charming.
05:33Was there anything not to like about Boozer?
05:35He's just not as athletic as my...
05:37You know, that's all.
05:38He seems more boring.
05:39A little bit.
05:40A little bit.
05:41But there's nothing...
05:42In other words, I hate to say...
05:44I have a negative thing to say about DeBonta.
05:46I have nothing negative.
05:48But I would kind of get a kick out of them picking anybody but him.
05:52Would actually intrigue me.
05:54Because the fan base would be like, what?
05:56Because the fan base is just being so kind of weird about it.
06:00Like, it's not 85-15 over there.
06:04Right.
06:04It's definitely not.
06:05Cakes has slurped DeBonta.
06:07I like DeBonta.
06:08There's nothing not to like.
06:09I've warmed up to DeBonta.
06:10He's kind of my guy.
06:11He's slurping.
06:12He's my guy.
06:13There's nothing not to like.
06:14But I'll tell you what...
06:15And I initially did not like Peter.
06:17It was Peterson and kind of his attitude.
06:19And he's just kind of...
06:20He's more of a aloof, quiet guy.
06:22But the more I went into the Peterson wormhole, I got all in.
06:25So I'm kind of leaning Peterson.
06:27I just think his talent is outrageous.
06:31I haven't really let myself fall in love with Boozer.
06:36And I feel like I need to steal...
06:37It's Boozer.
06:38I will be like Cakes.
06:39I will be surprised.
06:40I need to steal JVS's key card and break into the Wizards' war room.
06:45And find out.
06:46Big board.
06:46You want to really know, right?
06:48Yeah.
06:48I'm desperate to know.
06:49Yeah.
06:50I'm desperate to see who's atop the board.
06:52I just think it's not a consensus that it's DeBonta.
06:56It might not be.
06:59Or maybe they love him.
07:01They've already settled in on him as the pick.
07:03They might.
07:03But if I had to put money on it right now, if you put a gun to my head and
07:07you said,
07:07Eric, you have to go put money on who they're going to take one, I would place not a lot
07:13of money, but I'd place my money on DeBonta.
07:15And I wouldn't feel great about it, but that's who I would...
07:17I mean, I would bet on it, but I don't feel great about it.
07:22The drafts probably already placed a bet on Cam Boozer going number one, because it's probably
07:26a long shot compared to DeBonta's odds at this point.
07:31I haven't yet.
07:32I'm waiting on my 300-1 French Open long shot to pay off first.
07:37And when that does...
07:38Is DeBonta still alive?
07:39Yeah.
07:40Who is it?
07:41Jakob Mensik.
07:43The French Open's, by the way, is just wild.
07:44Everyone's knocked out.
07:45A bunch of numbers are left.
07:47Yeah, Joker.
07:48Did Tiafoe?
07:48Joker lost to a teenager.
07:50Tiafoe's still in it.
07:51He is.
07:51He's in a fourth round, right?
07:52Yeah, but he's in the upper bracket, and it's...
07:55More difficult?
07:56No, he's got a shot, for sure.
07:58Oh, good.
07:59Good for him.
07:59I saw him getting into it.
08:01You know, he was telling some guy he wasn't tough.
08:03Yeah, he said, chill out.
08:04You're not that tough, dude.
08:05Yeah, yeah.
08:05I don't understand what the...
08:06The guy said you're being disrespectful.
08:08They were going at it.
08:09It was just a super competitive match, and it was cool to see.
08:12Yeah.
08:13But he's still battling.
08:14He plays today.
08:15Ooh, what time?
08:18Let me tell you the exact time.
08:19I have to check in.
08:20I think I'll be working on my short game.
08:21I don't think I have time for that.
08:22Two hours.
08:23Oh, at nine?
08:24No, no, no.
08:2511.30.
08:26Sorry.
08:2611.30.
08:27I can watch a little bit of that.
08:30What if the Wizards, they want consistent?
08:34You know, we've assumed that A.J. DeBonsa...
08:37Can you play that clip again, please?
08:38I want to hear the whole clip, all the players.
08:40We've assumed A.J. DeBonsa is kind of the safe pick, right?
08:45I feel like that's a very solid pick.
08:48If they went to Bonsa, very solid.
08:50No one would complain.
08:51No one would have a beef with it.
08:52Maybe they believe his floor is lower than Boozer.
08:57That if Boozer...
08:58If all the analytics say, and they look at international games where he's playing against
09:02pros, all the analytics say, pencil him in, he's going to give you 20 and 10.
09:06Well, show me the analytics.
09:06They're like, let's take 20 and 10, and you know, you said that you saw DeBonsa, the floor
09:13being Wiggins, right?
09:16And they said Andrew Wiggins.
09:17Andrew Wiggins...
09:18That hurt me a little bit.
09:19I mean, I don't know what his career numbers are, but at times he's probably averaged 13,
09:2214, 15 a game.
09:24He's a very solid player.
09:25He's not 20 and 10.
09:27Not every year.
09:28Nope.
09:30I don't know.
09:31I could be...
09:31The thing is, I think I could be sold on all four of the guys, the top four, four of
09:36them.
09:36Caleb Wilson would be the most intriguing.
09:39Now, no one's talking about him.
09:40If they go up there and address Caleb Wilson, that would be the biggest shock.
09:44That has to be in a trade down.
09:46You can't pick him number one overall.
09:48And I would have no problem with that.
09:49By the way, if they trade down, there's also a huge portion of the fan base that even if...
09:55Let's just say they've done it all.
09:56They've interviewed them all.
09:57They've worked them all out.
09:58They've watched all the videos.
09:59They got all the guys.
10:00And let's just say, and I don't think it's true, but let's just say Caleb Wilson's their number
10:03one guy, and they trade down to four because they can get them at four?
10:07Yep.
10:08Love it.
10:09There's fans here that would be distraught about it.
10:13Why?
10:13You just get more assets.
10:15If the Wizards are going to pick Cameron Boozer of Holy Red O's, they should trade with the
10:21Jazz, because we know the Jazz want the Bonsa.
10:24We think they want the Bonsa.
10:25We think they want the Bonsa.
10:26Have them go up to number one.
10:28You go down to number two.
10:29You get some sort of asset.
10:30I don't think the Jazz are going to trade, though.
10:33The Jazz are just going to say, Danny Ainge is going to say, I'll take either one of those
10:35guys.
10:36I'll take Peterson or DeBonsa.
10:38I'm not going to give you something.
10:39I'm not going to give you Ace Bailey.
10:41And Danny Ainge is a bit of a maverick.
10:43Like, the owner might want DeBonsa because he played at BYU in Utah.
10:46Sure.
10:46But Danny Ainge is a different cat.
10:48Yeah.
10:49He may be eyeing Darren Peterson.
10:51Could be the case.
10:52Yeah.
10:53Well, let me see if you'll play ball.
10:55So, before the NFL draft two seasons ago, when the Commanders ended up taking Jaden Daniels,
11:02we played word association with Dan Quinn.
11:05And we just, first thing that popped into mind, it was about the proper words.
11:10Okay.
11:11Okay.
11:11All right.
11:12Let's start with Darius Acuff.
11:17Competitive.
11:19Okay.
11:19Keep track of this.
11:21Cam Boozer.
11:25Boring.
11:26Cam Boozer.
11:28Consistent.
11:30Oh, I don't like consistent very much.
11:32Hold on.
11:32I like it.
11:33Five seconds.
11:33It's not a negative.
11:35It's not a negative.
11:36What's not a negative?
11:36Consistent?
11:37This is not a negative attribute.
11:39Yeah, but it's not great.
11:40It doesn't jump out at you, but maybe we're sleeping on it.
11:44All right.
11:44Go ahead.
11:44When you think of, just remember, we will say consistent for your guys.
11:47You slurp.
11:48When you think of Wendy, you think anybody said consistent?
11:52Think about Wendy when he's coming out?
11:54No.
11:54No.
11:54You'd say freak.
11:55Like when he's coming out, you'd say alien.
11:57You'd say one in a billion.
11:59Right.
11:59Yeah.
11:59You'd say something silly.
12:00You don't say consistent.
12:01I'm just trying to talk myself into consistent.
12:03I like consistent.
12:04You want someone consistent.
12:06This is boring.
12:08It's boring.
12:08What do you say about it?
12:09You'd like it better than inconsistent.
12:10Competitive.
12:10Competitive.
12:11Okay.
12:11I'm ready to say it.
12:12Caleb Wilson.
12:15Caleb Wilson.
12:16Freak.
12:18Don't lead the witness.
12:21Reiser.
12:22All right.
12:23That's better than consistent.
12:26Darren Peterson.
12:33Fierce.
12:34Fierce.
12:35All right.
12:35I just told him not to lead the witness, and you did.
12:38I'm messing.
12:38All right.
12:39AJ.
12:39Okay.
12:48Consistent.
12:49So he's consistent as well?
12:52Use that one already?
12:53Use that one for Cam.
12:55I was about to say speechless.
12:57Redraw.
12:58Redraw for that.
12:59Redraw for AJ.
12:59You probably have another word.
13:01Let's try another word for AJ.
13:03Because you already said consistent.
13:04Consistent's off the board.
13:05Yep.
13:05That's the first thing.
13:07Consistent is off the board.
13:08You said Cam was consistent.
13:09Yeah.
13:09It has to be a different word.
13:11We're changing the rules on him.
13:12Consistent score.
13:13Score then.
13:14Score.
13:15Okay.
13:16Score gets me in a lather.
13:17I'm telling you.
13:18He took eight seconds.
13:19I looked at it.
13:20And he was saying consistent score.
13:22So he doesn't think much of him as a defender at this point.
13:25A lot of people don't.
13:26I don't think he cares that much about what a defender he is.
13:29He's 19.
13:29I think they want versatile players.
13:31At some point, he'll develop into a defender.
13:33He's a great athlete.
13:34I don't see why he could be.
13:35That's a big assumption.
13:36A lot of guys don't develop into big defenders.
13:38I'm more convinced than Everett Peterson.
13:41I mean, Fierce?
13:42You can't give a better descriptor than Fierce.
13:46Does anyone have an argument that Fierce is...
13:48I'd love to have a Fierce player.
13:50Of those...
13:50Does anybody think Fierce is not the best descriptor that he just used?
13:56Does anybody?
13:56Please, I'm begging you to call.
13:57Reiser's pretty good, but Fierce is the best.
14:01Right, Drab?
14:02I mean, if you just went on that, you'd go, it's Peterson.
14:05If you just went on that.
14:07A riser's a throwaway to me.
14:08Is it?
14:09I like scorer.
14:10Reiser's kind of a throwaway.
14:11And I think, by the way, he's talking about his verticalness, not rising in a draft.
14:15No, he's talking about his vertical.
14:16Yeah, yeah, yeah.
14:17His hops.
14:17You hated that he said consistent for Boozer.
14:20Yeah.
14:20And then during that little segment, you joned on consistent.
14:25I know.
14:25And then he said consistent for your guy.
14:27What you're not realizing is that Will Dawkins is playing a metagame.
14:30He's playing chess while we're playing checkers.
14:33I think we caught him off guard.
14:33And he just wants to throw off whatever random...
14:36Okay, I don't think so.
14:37...non-sequitur, consistent, yeah, whatever, to throw you off the set.
14:41I think we pulled his pants down.
14:42We caught him.
14:43We caught him.
14:43If I were Will Dawkins, if I could go back in time, I would say, I'm not going to play
14:47your dumb word association game.
14:49Right.
14:49Okay?
14:49I'm not going to play that game.
14:51Because it's just fraught with minefields.
14:54I'm going to step in.
14:54Yeah, it's filled with minefields.
14:55But I think he was trying to be a good guy.
14:57Trying to be a good guest.
14:59He was trying to be helpful without giving too much.
15:01He could have said, like, if you said, if you had me do it, DeBansa, charismatic.
15:06He could have said whatever.
15:08He went with the dud, because you said it was a dud descriptor for Boozer.
15:12If he loved him, why wouldn't he have just said, athletic freak?
15:16Right.
15:16He can't say anything.
15:1742-inch vertical.
15:19Because he's not Dan Quinn.
15:20He's not going to put it all out there for everybody to see.
15:23He could have said superstar.
15:25Do you think he really?
15:26Okay.
15:27So then, why do you think he described Darren Peterson as fierce?
15:31Because it was a fake signal.
15:34Could be.
15:34Fake tell, EB.
15:35I just don't believe it.
15:36I just don't believe it.
15:37A lot of fake tells in poker and others.
15:39If he doesn't think he's fierce, but he thought by saying fierce, other people would think
15:44he thinks he's fierce.
15:46It's not that deep.
15:47I think he thinks he's fierce.
15:48Here's what I know.
15:49Then I think it's an unbelievable adjective.
15:51They're not picking Darren Peterson.
15:52I know that.
15:53They're not picking Darren Peterson.
15:55Put the bet in.
15:56Put it in.
15:57Put the bet in.
15:58Going right now.
15:59Will Dawkins not picking Darren Peterson.
16:02Okay.
16:03Can I just ask you?
16:04Oh, I already know why.
16:05What kind of one-sided bet do we have them like?
16:08No.
16:09I don't know.
16:10I have a record.
16:11I'm no longer doing the dumb one-sided bets where you guys benefit and I lose.
16:17Can Cakes like house an entire thing of creatine?
16:19No.
16:20I'm not doing that.
16:22No chance.
16:24He's going to have a hard time rooting for Darren Peterson.
16:26Oh, he's going to have a really hard time.
16:27If he's easy to know, he will.
16:29We know you, Cakes.
16:30You'll be grudgingly rooting for him.
16:33You're going to hold your nose.
16:33I know that Will Dawkins, in my heart of hearts, is not picking that person.
16:37But your only reason we've gone through this, we've argued this for a lot now over the
16:40last few weeks, is because you're convinced the cramping stuff is way too big of an issue
16:44for them to be able to overcome.
16:45Yes.
16:46Okay.
16:47And Boozer?
16:48Snoozer?
16:49Yeah.
16:50Cameron Snoozer.
16:51Great nickname for him.
16:53Great nickname, JP.
16:54Well done.
16:55I don't think I made enough.
16:56Can we take a bet?
16:57I want the field.
16:58You got the bond, so we get the field.
17:01I would do a bet like that, sure.
17:04The bonds is the guy.
17:05I'll do it.
17:06I'll do a $10 bet.
17:07I'll take the field.
17:08I don't need $10.
17:09Let's not get crazy.
17:10Five.
17:10Okay.
17:11Put it in the books.
17:12You should take that bet.
17:13AJ's minus 360 to go number one.
17:16Take that bet.
17:17The 10?
17:18$7.
17:19Let's meet in the middle.
17:21Sure.
17:22$7 wager.
17:23$7 bet.
17:24That's the first $7 bet.
17:26I'm glad somebody has it.
17:27In the history of the show.
17:28All right.
17:28If you want to chime in, 1-800-636-1067.
